601  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: SatoshiDice Sold for $12.4 Million on: July 19, 2013, 12:06:37 PM
The other thread about this says it sold for 11.5m. Huh

It depends on what bitcoin is currently worth, no? So it's 12 million now, 18 million in an hour or so and 5 USD 50 cents in 4 weeks.

You're greatly exaggerating Bitcoin's volatility.

Actually I'm not. With Mt Gox not sending out any withdrawals for weeks now and them trying to claw back withdrawals that have already happened, with Robot Ver completely failing to meet his sales targets, with Avalon not delivering for weeks, with Bitinstant shutting down,  where do you think BTC will be in 4 weeks?

I think you overstate the effect of those events.

Robot Ver - I don't even know who they are, what they do

Avalon - doesn't really matter, they had limited supplies since they started (300pcs for batch 1?). There are competition though with BFL, asicminer and the other new companies developing asics so the future is bright.

Bitinstant - again, it affects only a portion of bitcoin users

My all time favourite is starcraft 2. The only game I still play.
603  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: New Attack Vector on: July 17, 2013, 03:31:15 PM
BITCOIN IS SHIT, it does not accept signatures from the most well know implementation of crypto algorithms: openssl.

Code:
ThreadRPCServer method=sendrawtransaction
ERROR: Non-canonical signature: wrong length marker
ERROR: CScriptCheck() : f57a2c4d3b8f9653eaee0d5611fcf7c918bcc8903894e148c5b56486fb3f8eaa VerifySignature failed
ERROR: CTxMemPool::accept() : ConnectInputs failed f57a2c4d3b8f9653eaee0d5611fcf7c918bcc8903894e148c5b56486fb3f8eaa

why the fuck is this stuff implemented the way it is?

bitcoin and especially the satoshi client is a stinking pile faulty patches on other patches of bad and stupidly written code!

All main developers is bad at coding, and should feel bad about it.

Is there a kokjo-coin available? Cheesy

607  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why Bitcoin will never reach mainstream on: July 15, 2013, 12:04:15 PM
People sometimes forget that life with "normal" currencies is full of crooks and scammers too.

It's human nature in action and it doesn't matter what field you're inspecting there will always be criminals who are after your wealth.

Anyone who get's scammed deserves it on some level because it means they were not careful enough.

608  Economy / Securities / Re: Lab Rat Data Processing, LLC (LabRatMining) Official Announcement on: July 15, 2013, 10:04:08 AM
Can you please detail your strategy - scenario if BFL won't be able to ship in time?
609  Economy / Securities / Re: Lab Rat Data Processing, LLC (LabRatMining) Official Announcement on: July 14, 2013, 09:03:52 PM
I say we need competition.

I guess the OP is the same as the labrat on BFL forums. can you please confirm this?
610  Other / Off-topic / Re: Who's winning Android or iPhone? on: July 14, 2013, 01:11:51 PM
With S. Jobs, iPhone was winning, but now Apple is going down... And Android is going up!

I had several Iphones in the Jobs "era" and they were utter crap in my opinion.

I haven't looked back since I switched to Android.
611  Economy / Economics / Re: Why is bitcoin price not going up? on: July 14, 2013, 07:59:23 AM
The entire world's never going to collapse all at once, but the certain parts of it will see periods of extreme turmoil from time to time.

If you happen to be located in one of those parts of the world and see the signs of impending turmoil, it's far better to move to some calmer part of the world before it's too late rather than try to shelter in place.

In this scenario gold is nearly useless, even in physical form. If you really need to leave a country quickly you can't take significant quantities of gold with you.

Bitcoins, on the other hand...

At such times, Having both is best.

+1
612  Economy / Economics / Re: Why is bitcoin price not going up? on: July 13, 2013, 08:29:15 AM

I wonder what you mean about amount of physical gold vs what's speculated?

Let's say that there are x tonnes of gold existing now in circulation in physical form. As far as I know there have been much more "paper" gold issued and speculated on. I think it's a recipe for a disaster.

I too share lucasjkr's view. It will be interesting when these issuers go bust.

I'm blaming it on the 4Th/s that abandoned us after the Difficulty increase. I don't think it should affect Luck, but it sure feels like it does. I mean with less mining, you are bound to find fewer blocks.

It has nothing to do with it. coincidence that's all. that 4TH worth of computing power jumped pool because of bad luck in the first place.
614  Economy / Invites & Accounts / Re: Bitcointalk forums accounts for sale. Accounts from 2012 just .2btc on: July 12, 2013, 07:16:38 PM
Why is this still allowed?

OP should get scammer tag for this

Are you that desperate for money?

the title should be "Selling free forum accounts" Cheesy
616  Economy / Economics / Re: Why is bitcoin price not going up? on: July 12, 2013, 05:38:46 PM
Have you seen how fast gold has increased the last few years? Everyone says its just going to go up. Its also a very safe investment. If you hold on to your gold for a while, your not going to lose money.

It depends when you buy. for example: http://www.xe.com/currencycharts/?from=XAU&to=USD&view=1Y there were and will be many timeframes which are bad times to buy or hold gold, hence part of your statement is false.

Anyhow, I have some gold, I call it the armageddon fund Cheesy

If the time comes when I need to use precious metals to get something or survive then the value expressed in USD will be rather irrelevant Smiley

If someone trades frequently then paper gold is OK. if you want to hold it long or indefinitely then it's quite irresponsible to have in my opinion.
I also don't like the fact that the quantity of the actual physical gold is less than what is speculated on. But correct me if I'm wrong.

617  Economy / Economics / Re: Why is bitcoin price not going up? on: July 12, 2013, 12:34:50 PM
Just buy gold with Bitcoin, end of story.

Maybe the worst advice anyone can give.

Diversify instead. I wouldn't put more than 5% of my wealth in gold. Also, I would steer away from "paper gold".

Wow... I just barely made enough to cover electricity in the last 24 hrs and I'm running FPGAs and a Raspberry Pi.  I need to get solar power or something.

You would need solar power for free. otherwise you would be wasting money.

This is a late reply, but my advice to anyone having this problem would be to figure out a way to fix it yourself. I went the RMA route with an MSI card and ended up being down a graphics card for 6 months. Process was ridiculously slow and the first replacement they sent me was DOA.

Good luck with sale, I'm sure someone can use it.

I can second this. Had many fans fail on XFX 5870s. The RMA process is a nightmare and in the end the supplier refused to give back the cards and refunded only 40% of the original price. :S

They had only fan failures otherwise working ok. For the last few I managed to order fans, but it was a pain to get the proper ones.
