601  Economy / Lending / Re: Looking for 15 BTC Loan Over 14 Days - 10% on: June 29, 2012, 04:44:43 AM
I look away for a few minutes, and this guy gets confirmed.  Probably because none of his stories stacked up and I kept with my decision not to lend.  I hope no one got too burned by this.

For reference, the initial request I received was 600, then 300, then 100, then a couple at 75.

I already have my own Alpaca herd (sufficiently closely related anyway) - goes into the fibres business  I have 30% of.

Why not just give different people deposits, from which they can pay you gratitude for putting them into their pirate account? I could do this, I need some funds to get to pirate highest rate.

It appears to be more active than that.  That is, having knowledge that the funds are not put towards a prohibited activity.  As it is not disclosed what BS&T is actually doing, it probably would not qualify.

However, offering an instrument that invests or carries out activities that are permitted is better/acceptable.  Awaiting Sen's clarification.

yes, what you said above is correct.

Some more thinking and I think I can commence a halal/ethical fund - I will put some details around it at the weekend when I'm updating a few other things, but I already have a 15BTC compliant loan that I will transfer to it and 250BTC in seed capital (that can be displaced by investors) to make sure it is not starved of funds at inception.

We are attempting to syndicate your loan.

Burt saw it first. (sorted)

Hi, pm sent, but I was looking at http://www.wealthcity.in/services/shariah-investments.html as a guide as it laid things out in a fairly straight forward manner.

Looks like what you are after is an Ethical Investment Fund.  I'm sure other people could do that, but if you wanted, I could add one to Starfish (or does the rest of the business preclude this option?)

Yep.
I hope there is some lawyer pro bitcoin in this forum that can gives us good advice...

That's illegal.

By which law?

http://skeptics.stackexchange.com/questions/6852/is-it-illegal-in-the-u-s-for-legal-professionals-to-answer-legal-questions-on-p

It's only illegal under some circumstances, but I think moreso than illegal it could ruin their career and get them debarred.

An interesting link - reminds me of the job I was doing during April/May where in the vast majority of cases (over 80%) people consulted non-lawyers about the full range of legal problems someone might encounter.  The most common source of legal advice - family and friends.  (Not sure if the report we produced is public.)

And, if bitcoin becomes illegal, then I'll have to pay for my BTC magazine with Neopoints or some MMORPG- thing gold (if I ever bothered).  And yes Mathew, I did get my magazine yesterday 26th June.

Thought I would bump this topic because there have been some changes to the catalogue, and the filming of The Hobbit is making progress locally.  If someone is interested, drop me a pm or a reply in this thread and I'll do some work on making the products more available for BTC.

(also for historical interest, note the $14/BTC price from a year ago)
612  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Who Pays What? on: June 26, 2012, 09:59:15 AM

The new investment would act as an expansion possibility. The calculation was set very low. We have long been on the market since early 2011. Offered by such https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=89635.0 we have nothing with this!
For over 1.5 years, there were no complaints about us, and all users get their money back. The fund will be revised again as announced in the current form.

Edit: The history follows

Greeting
Smart

Hi Smart - you misunderstand - I was in no way linking your offering to the one listed in that other thread which looks very insecure.

My misunderstanding is potentially in the translation from your offering and another I am aware of (ZiggyStar) and I will pm you in the next few days for some clarification.
613  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: Who Pays What? on: June 26, 2012, 03:10:16 AM

I think both of those ideas are good. At your discretion, would you consider adding mining bonds to the table? Perhaps for the Miscellaneous section you could list the average price/share, and the average dividend/week, rather than just the variable interest rate.

Over in securities Stochastic does a very good table of weekly returns for all GLBSE offerings.  I would not want to duplicate his very excellent piece of work, but I'll add the link to the OP.

Hey Patrick plz add our new loaning Bond.

https://mybitcointrade.com/?content=boerse/projekthandel&projektid=11

Forum Thread is the same one. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=81357.0

The Loaning Bond
Payout of the dividend (min 2% / week ) is every Sunday at 00:00 am automaticly. With the surplus, we pay out larger dividends or buy back shares to 0.5 BTC.
We buy your shares for at least 0,125 BTC while the running time (max. buybackrate is 0,20 BTC).

This will be a Middle Term investigation.

Payout are automaticly and 25% guaranteed !
Expected running time up to 9 months.

----

Offer will be chance attractive Tommorow.

I read this a while ago, thought about it, and now coming back for a second cut.

The current front-page table initially covered fixed interest deposit accounts, and then expanded to include BS&T pass through and GLBSE.  From what I read of your offer, it's a little bit different again including a "buy-back" and the notion of shares and run via it's own web.  The bonus payments also make it look more like an investment of some type of equity rather than a fixed interest instrument.  Alternatively, it might just be a longer term deposit - I would have to look again.

It was not my intention to list equities/shares even if they are paying a reasonable rate (mining shares arguably do that too, or any GLBSE asset with a decent dividend history).  It was also not my plan to scour the internet looking at schemes promising various rewards as there are some quite odd ones out there.  However, it is also not my intention to discriminate or dismiss ventures like this.

Pending feedback, I could add a miscellaneous section as a fifth table.

I would also like to differentiate something that appears moderately solid from HYIP's and places like https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=89635.0  Therefore, I will be progressively adding a credit rating/score indication during the next week as this has been requested by enough people to indicate that it is required.
615  Other / Off-topic / Re: How fast is the speed of light? on: June 25, 2012, 10:39:14 PM
?? frequency determines colour in the visible spectrum
616  Other / Off-topic / Re: How fast is the speed of light? on: June 25, 2012, 10:30:58 PM
No, I was talking about single photons and they have been experimenting with singles for decades.

The "well defined" frequency and wavelength is directly related (inverse) adjusted for density of the medium unless I've really forgotten all of my physics.
617  Other / Off-topic / Re: How fast is the speed of light? on: June 25, 2012, 10:21:57 PM
I don't especially care about the wavelength, if it's x-ray or visible spectrum.  Unless the amplitude is linked to wavelength which is something I wasn't considering.

As for energy quanta having no diameter, photons are mainly energy, like electrons or protons, and are built on a nice assembly of quarks (I suppose) so there would be a size  associated with that.

How big is a photon?  I haven't checked recently.
618  Other / Off-topic / Re: How fast is the speed of light? on: June 25, 2012, 09:44:02 PM
What is the height of the wave for the photon?  If it is less than the diameter of the energy quanta, is it actually travelling 3.41 times further or just wobbling around an interior point?  Also, what about particle spin, are you measuring a point on the surface as it s[ins on the wave trajectory?

(BTW - I have someone in my office who can answer these questions, but thought it would be better to see the results here.)
619  Economy / Long-term offers / Re: VESCUDERO'S Guaranteed Deposits at 2% Weekly on: June 25, 2012, 07:13:42 PM
Just a quick question about this kind of investment.

(I don't have 1000 BTC or anywhere near that, this is purely hypothetical):

If someone with 1000 BTC were to invest in this 2% weekly deposit...
Within one year, they would have ~2800BTC
Within two years, they would have ~7841BTC
Within three years, they would have ~21959BTC
Within five years, that number would now be ~172204BTC
At ten years, the balance would be a whopping almost 30,000,000BTC. (more than will exist at that time)
Am I missing something, or could a deposit like this turn very big relatively quickly?

Just for the lulz:
If you invested a mere 10BTC:
1 yr=28BTC
5 yr=1722BTC
10 yr=296544BTC (around 1/3 of the current Bitcoins in the market today).

The same analysis was done with the growth in registered Elvis impersonators some time ago.  Based on some data in the 70's it showed that by 1980, the entire population of the world would be Elvis.

What people fail to get is that things change.  No one is offering compound weekly at a fixed rate for 500 weeks.

Also, in many systems, you run into saturation issues.  As an example, I reviewed a proposal some years ago for a marketing campaign in Melbourne.  The provider had the capacity to call everyone within a year.  So why would we keep them hammering away at people that had already said "no" - simple, you wouldn't.  Bit of a difference targeting 4M people vs 400.  The same here with BTC.
620  Economy / Services / Re: Gigamining / Teramining on: June 25, 2012, 08:09:21 AM
In other news, the AWARE-2 camera has been announced.  This camera with a resolution 50 times more than the current 40Mpixel camera on the Nokia 808 is about the size of a milk crate, but then so were the first film cameras.  I expect Giga to buy one as it's a giga-pixel camera.

I hope the inventors of this camera compensate all those Kodak shareholders from making Kodak shares worthless (oops - they are already broke having stuck with film and paper).  But then, the detractors in this thread must be against technological progress, and I wonder why they upgrade from a trusty Windows for Workgroups OS when DOS was just fine.  Maybe they should still be using typewriters and carbon paper.
