6021  Economy / Goods / Payment options Segwit / Compatibility / Legacy / Other Coins on: November 10, 2019, 03:19:18 PM
When selling stuff here I tend just to post Legacy addresses.
Sometimes I will post a Segwit one too.

Someone just pointed out that I should only be posting native segwit.
I pointed out that it's my money and how I want to take it is up to me and they should go away.

What do the rest of you think?

Seriously since there are so many ways to quickly change from 1 coin to another and other options I can put up 10 forms of payment.

Without the hostility to other coins, if I can change 400,000 doge into .1125BTC in less time then it took me to post this do many of you really care?

If I need to convert to USD to pay some bills Coinbase will take my ETH just as easily as LTC or BTC or BCH or a few others.

6022  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: More bad news for Microbt CEO is being held for questioning!. on: November 10, 2019, 03:00:55 PM
Yeah, in the below article it says that Bitmain CEO is back to 'save the ship'! Is Bitmain really in that much trouble it could go under?

I put that more under the title of "Standard Press Release" when a new CEO comes in.

Kind of like when Brian Niccol came in to Chipotle as CEO last year. The company was doing OK, but far from as well as it should be doing.
But he was there to save them from the food contamination issues (already fixed) and the stagnation (was a work in progress at the time)
Because a press release saying, "We are doing OK, but this change will make you forget about our past mistakes" does not read as well.

I don't see this as any different.

The btc.com wallet will work on Android 4.2
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.blocktrail.mywallet

And the bitpie wallet will work on Android 4.0
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bitpie

I don't think you are going to find anything that still is supported on Android 3.x

Can you give a little more detail on what you are looking for?
And why? Someone might have an idea as to another solution.

6024  Other / Meta / Re: At what point does feedback spam warrant a ban / nuking? on: November 10, 2019, 01:59:25 PM
Sooner or later this clown is going to have to be dealt with.
Do you think GP would bother about that, I really do not think so, Infact he'll be enjoying the attention he is getting, this trolls love it when more threads are made about them, it helps them to stay relevant, I'll ask you to let it slide, ignore GP till theymos decides he has had enough, though theymos has such an elastic temper, so that may happen in a very long time.

As I posted elsewhere, the more we engage him here the less time he has to try to steal from other people.
Yeah, it's close to a 0% chance that it will happen again that someone will fall for his scam, but if he is here then he is not elsewhere trying to get peoples money.

6025  Other / Meta / Re: At what point does feedback spam warrant a ban / nuking? on: November 09, 2019, 10:25:39 PM
And another 4 left over the last 3 days.
Since the powers that be don't want to issue a ban for the feedback spam, every time I remember to check I will post here bumping this thread to the top of Meta.
Sooner or later this clown is going to have to be dealt with.

It's not even about the scamming anymore. It's the abuse of the trust feature.

Fine don't want to permaban or nuke. At least a nice long vacation.

6026  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Spending-bitcoin.com - The biggest directory of webshops accepting Bitcoin! on: November 09, 2019, 09:48:27 PM
Do you have any plans to add physical stores that accept BTC?
Something like https://coinmap.org/
Sometimes you want to order stuff online, sometimes you want to pick it up locally.

Would be nice to have them combined.

Yeah, I know it's a major project update to do it.
Can't hurt to ask.

6027  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: More bad news for Microbt CEO is being held for questioning!. on: November 09, 2019, 08:57:35 PM
What chaps my ass is that stealing IP from other Chinese businesses = bad. Stealing from other people = not as bad.

With that being said, we don't know what really happened. It's easy to say it's Bitmain being evil but, we really don't know if there was any IP theft. With stuff like this, with a short life-cycle every tiny advantage is important. So where sometimes you might look the other way, here is does matter.

Also, and this is just me. I have had contact with 3 MicroBT miners. 2 bought online and1 from Philipma1957
All 3 are dead. So unless they stole the secret plans for paperweights I really don't care.

6028  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Dust attack donation address for old empty addresses on: November 09, 2019, 12:24:23 PM
Someone had intentionally sent you (and other addresses) dust.
Yeah, I get that part.
What I don't get is how they dusted an address that had no activity.
Ah sorry, I thought you did know because the address is written in your profile.

That's also the answer where the sender got that address  Wink

OK, I'm an idiot.
100% forgot I changed that address when the old one I had on the forum might have had it's private key exposed.
This is what happens when you don't get enough sleep.....

Did you email ian@bitcoin.com from above? If so what did he say?

You can also try reaching out to viabtc, they do have a twitter account:

https://twitter.com/viabtc
And a facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/viabtc

Although not very active they are there.

Ian said he would offer a helping hand, but I've lost touch with him

I PMd checksum0 and MemoryDealers

Let's see what they say.
Odd that there is no response.

6032  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Dust attack donation address for old empty addresses on: November 08, 2019, 11:50:57 PM
I need another set of eyes on this.
I think I am missing something.

Lets start at the beginning.
I am using Mycelium. HD key generation, etc.
I saw the 0.00000777BTC pop up in a wallet that had 0BTC in it so I knew it was dusted.
No idea which of the 100 or so addresses that were in there got dusted, and I really didn't care.

So I sent the .00000777 to the donation address of bc1qfeedch80zxged6apxyknugt67e47nsw00tpguu

Then I looked at it on a blockchain explorer and saw that the transaction I just made came from 18h1VLiRSxTqv12mLE7jrJmJyNQXfyMWuR

https://www.blockchain.com/btc/address/18h1VLiRSxTqv12mLE7jrJmJyNQXfyMWuR

Which only had 1 transaction....the one that put in the .00000777

Now, I'm exhausted it's been a stupid long week. But am I missing something, how did this get dusted?

6035  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Generating a paper wallet securely on: November 08, 2019, 03:36:27 PM
On a side note. I have used and do use Revlar paper for paper wallets among other things:

https://relyco.com/products/durable-papers/revlar-waterproof-paper/

From their marketing:

Quote
REVLAR paper is waterproof, tear-proof, durable, impervious to grease and chemicals, weatherproof and specifically designed to withstand high/low temperature fluctuations. It is an extremely tough product; some have even called it “virtually indestructible” after running it through various durability tests. Yet, it can still be scored, punched or die-cut, which makes it versatile.

I do have some of their laser printer paper.

If you are US based and want to send me shipping I'll get you 2 or 3 pieces.

If you want it in a flat envelope that has a piece of cardboard in it to keep it rigid it's $4.06 to ship
If you want it in a flat envelope that is not rigid I can get it to you for $1.25 but if USPS bends it and leaves a crease don't complain to me.

It's Friday, Monday is a postal holiday so anyone who wants some please get to me before Tuesday.

PM me and I'll get back to you with a payment address.
Not going to fill out customs paperwork so US only.

Just cleaning up and figure some people might want some.
Laser only. You try to use an inkjet it's going to be a blurry mess.

6036  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Dust attack donation address for old empty addresses on: November 08, 2019, 01:29:09 PM
Taking this wildly off topic and away from the "lets do good and donate" what exchanges let you deposit such small amounts and trade?

Last time I've done this I deposited to Binance. It was under 1$ worth, it was altcoin, but doesn't think it matters.
However, since I've been already mentioning Binance in my previous post, this one doesn't bring anything. And since you already considered the other post off-topic, I'll remove both posts by tomorrow.

Imho it was not that much off topic because if the end result of the donation is that the other party will have to pay higher fees, you don't really "do good". But I don't want to argue; since it was not useful for you, it doesn't matter: I'll delete.

Don't worry about deleting it. Its actually good useful info I was just worried that it would go from Donation -> Exchange that takes dust -> Arguing about exchanges -> something else.

Since Dabs is re-setting up his donation address and if for whatever reason people want to exchange instead of donating it's good to have the exchange info posted too.

This way for people who come to this thread there are 2 options.

6037  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Advice on Raspberry pi hardware for running full BTC node on: November 08, 2019, 01:10:30 PM
So I take that as a "yes" , reformatting is the correct solution when booting fails repetitively.

it was a no

the correct solution is to research ways to make the RPi 4 stable. In particular, the premium (4B+) boards might be overclocked too much, change the CPU clock speed (or the memory controller's clock speed) and/or the amount of voltage to either, and you might find the Pi stays up.

If you keep syncing the blockchain while the board keeps crashing, there's a good chance the data in the blockchain will suffer some corruption. There's not much point in starting that job until you've figured out how to keep the RPi up. A good way to do it is find out the command for memory testing, this basically gives the CPU and RAM a workout that never ends. Leave it running like that for multiple days, then try something different to stabilize the RPi when/if it crashes. Once it stays up for a week or 2 just doing 24/7 memtesting, you've probably cracked it.

I know I have posted it before, but I am going to post it again.
There are MANY MANY MANY cases that actually make it worse.

From another thread that I posted in and commented in this thread about:

Will try to order one or both of these 'cool'  Tongue cases from china. There are also options with fans but I really prefer passive cooling for something that is intended for 24/7 use.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000056606252.html
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4000095452880.html

Make sure that there is actual contact between the case and CPU in the proper area. Cheap cases suck.
Just scrapped a bunch of aluminum cases for the RPi3 that had enough space between the heatsinnk that was part of the case and the CPU itself that the thermal pad I put on the CPU was untouched on top Sad

-Dave

and after he got it in:

Make sure that there is actual contact between the case and CPU in the proper area. Cheap cases suck.
Received one of the cheap cases, the one with ribs. And as DaveF suspected, there were no contact between cpu and heatsink. There were about 1mm air gap 😕.
I cut a small piece of 1mm aluminum and fitted it with heatsink compound, which turned it into an ON OK solution 🙂.
Raspiblitz running at about 50C now.

Edit: Fixed typo.

When cooling something 1mm is about the same as 1 mile, no contact = no cooling. Putting it in a case = worse cooling due to no airflow.
Bad cooling = more crashes.

Side note this is not new:
This even goes back to some old school miners that used the older RPis as controllers.
Amazing how many problems existed because they were moving a lot of air over the chips but none over the Pi that just sat there and slowly cooked.

I actually still have a stack of the 2B models sitting around for the people who have old miners that used them that want to revive them to play with because the old ones cooked.
