625  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How would you convince a newbie to use BTC? on: March 30, 2015, 09:45:30 AM
I just read this:
http://www.finance-guy.net/finblog/what-is-bitcoin

It got me thinking that most people I talk to, don't understand enough about tech, or cryptography, to fully appreciate BTC.

How would you explain it to them on a simple level so that they might become believers.

A simple hook might help generate larger scale adoption by the masses.

I don't think most people understand enough about electronics or circuitry but they can use their computer and phones just fine. Bitcoin is a hard sell to newbies because at the moment I don't think it is much use to them especially as bitcoin's biggest positives seem to be political or capitalistic (if you're in it to try make some money which could be a 'hook' but as we have seen recently it's not a sure thing and people seem to have lost money rather than made it but the potential is still there). Most people sadly don't seem to care that much about economics nor do they understand it enough to see the benefits of bitcoin and get involved with it but maybe they will over time.

That's the problem, too many focus on the cool technical aspects of the technology rather than on the actual utility of the technology.  And as you can see by the responses to this thread most people are consumed with BTC as a commodity rather than as a currency.

If you introduce something new to someone they are very likely to associate that thing with the initial introduction.  So if you introduce BTC as a 'great investment' they will keep looking at it as a commodity.  It should be introduced as a currency NOT as a commodity because it is as a currency that it will have long life and higher value.

The best way to learn about any currency is through use -- buy things with it, not buying and selling it.

I noticed a section called "resourceful coins", how is that defined?  also, if purposeful coins is not part of that definition would you consider having a section for 'purpose coins' -- coins created with a specific purpose, outside of itself, in mind?

Armis, Bitcoin PR Buzz would like to say we fully endorse the PICISI project and would love to be one of your required 20 sponsors.

It's a great idea and has a lot of potential.

We will republish the article at http://www.crowdfundingpr.org/picisi/ on our website and it should be republished on other Bitcoin news sites, and syndicated through Bitcoin social media accounts as a result.

Would also like to apply to be a Promotion Contractor for press release and marketing duties as required: http://bitcoinprbuzz.com/services

We are redesigning our website this weekend so it may be down when you access it.

I will report back here when we have republished the article. We will probably edit it slightly to optimize it for keywords aimed at Bitcoin and cryptocurrency users.

Here's to the PICISI project!

Thanks Armis!

You are welcome to make our logo a little smaller if you like so you can fit everyone in.

Will have updates soon on the articles - we will also publish the second article regarding sponsors over the next week or so too.

for clarity you mentioned the "second article" it was about "PICISI Administration", the third article is on sponsors, it could be found here:
https://sites.google.com/site/einsteiniumbiz/crowdfunding-campaigns, I expect it to be republished at Crowdfunding PR Tuesday or Wednesday.

As for the size of the logos, you will notice that they are all getting smaller as the quantity increases.  Nevertheless their size will vary based on the application.
May I suggest that you create a black outline of the 'B' in bitcoin so that it is easier to see.

How and why would you "convince" anyone to use, or invest in a foreign currency?

Well there are a couple reasons:
1)   as a commodity in 2015 BTC is growing in value (same could not have been said for 2014)
2)   as a currency it is a digital currency, modern lightweight, no footprint,
3)   as a currency it is a medium of exchange but also a way to move money very fast, relatively safe, at very low cost even over boarders.
3)   as a currency it is growing in adoption / utility  ...

A project called PICISI (in development) will be a crowdfunding site that will accept fiat as well as cryptocurrency.  I think PICISI will add a whole new perspective on how BTC and CC in general will be viewed.

PICISI will allow people to see CC in actual action as a currency, just like they see fiat in action at all other crowdfunding sites.  They won't have to be concerned with the exchange value, and won't have to be bothered with downloading a wallet, most of that just confuses people.

Let's look at an ordinary person seeking to CF a project that was never involved with CC, how does PICISI convince them to want it, get it, and to use it?   Well first of all  we know their primary motivation for visiting the site -- to get money, so we give them money via our sponsors.   The will have many opportunities to receive money for their campaign simply by asking for it.  What do you think will happen when they see those funds coming in?  The will want to know it's comparable value to the fiat of their nation, they will want to know how they could convert it or how to use it.  When they see that they could use it to help them develop and/or market their campaign they will have a well rounded appreciation of the currency.

When someone is gently immersed into a positive environment it will likely cause them to want to know more about that environment.

CryptoDatabase, PICISI is a crowdfunding site (presently in construction) that will accept fiat and crypto donations.  See these articles to get some details about PICISI:
What is PICISI artilce - http://www.crowdfundingpr.org/picisi/        PICISI Administration article - http://www.crowdfundingpr.org/picisi-administration/

I think CryptoDatabase would be served well to be one of our sponsors, I have 7 free sponsorship slots available, if you want one let me know before they are all gone.

Here is the current sponsor list:

Could you explain to me what the function of a sponsor would be? I don't have a great amount of funds available but I can help out a little.

The sponsorship opportunity I had in mind for you was the free one.

Nothing beyond what a sponsor is willing to freely give is required of them.  At the same time everyone that supports PICISI, in any capacity, is asked to do whatever they can to help promote the PICISI message.

I could donate some btc towards the product and promote it sure, wouldn't be a problem. Just need an address.

Sure, here is the BTC address: 1ArTrd8W6GhaPrqRyGkfTqEj734RMdYkMJ   from the donation list:

After the donation is made, please provide the TxID; and the logo you want representing your brand on our sponsor list if it changed from what I currently have: https://sites.google.com/site/einsteiniumbiz/home/page-3/archive/cryptodatabase

Something unfortunate happened to me today after logging in to my C-Cex account after a long time i now just discovered that my account got hacked. Leaving me literally nothing Sad Ive worked so hard for the coins i have there, majority of it was pimpcash Sad My portfolio is worth 2.3 btc last time i checked and now its all gone. I know its not a lot to you guys but it means a lot to me and i really worked hard to achieve it. I know its my fault in some way but whats done is done. I dont know what to do,if any of you guys want to donate some for me my BTC address is 14t2HLhWQmZKJ3iSVWvkKtY4KSpTMS7UYE i really want my pimpcash back, hopefully i can rebuild my portfolio. I hope this serves as a lesson for everyone and always remember to secure any of your accounts. And keep coins out of exchanges. I believe im not the only one who got hacked. I contacted support but theres not much they can do

90%  of the hacks are because people use a password for more than one account, if you select different passwords for each and every account you have, and of course do the upper, lower, alpha, numeric, symbol combo you should be ok.

Dear Artsycoin:

Just a quick note to let you know that I'm working vigorously on PICISI and always promoting.  At PICISI here are our primary sponsorship opportunities:

1)  Host CC Sponsor -  One of the best ways to get your coin into the hands of someone is to simply give it to them, however the best way to get your coin used by the general public is to get your coin into their hands and have them use it in a real life application.  When an organizer starts a campaign at PICISI s/he has a choice of what CC currency type to select, the first choice is “sponsor currency” this is the organizer indicating a willingness to have his campaign sponsored at the host CC level.  Once the sponsor is finally selected that currency will be the currency that all other CCs donated to that campaign will be converted to for the duration of that particular campaign.

This is major because everyone that visits that campaign will see your currency, but the will not only see but will likely use the funds to do business with one of the contractors at the site during the campaign.   If they don't use it during the campaign, over that month of close interaction with your currency they are very likely to want to learn more about your coin so that by the end of the campaign they will make the deliberate decision to download a wallet, open an exchange account, or simply convert out of the currency.   Regardless of what they actually choose to do your CC has certainly been branded into their mind in a very positive way.

2)  Campaign Sponsor - this is the most common type of sponsorship outside of PICISI;  the sponsor’s logo is affixed to the body of campaign text in an area set aside for campaign sponsors.  The higher your donation the higher your logo is located in the sponsorship logo area.

3)  Donor Perk Sponsor -  a sponsor provided perk escrowed by PICISI on behalf of a specific campaign where it will be used.   If the perk is not requested by any qualified donor it will be converted to host CC and donated to the campaign

4)  Advertising Perk Sponsor -  a sponsor provided perk escrowed by PICISI on behalf of a specific campaign to be used as a perk or returned to the sponsor.  If the perk is not requested by any qualified campaign donor the perk is sent back to the sponsor -- the perk is NOT donated to the campaign.

and

5)  Campaign Video Sponsor -  the first 5 second of the campaign organizer's video is allocated for the Campaign Video Sponsor, this is where the sponsor will indicate: “This video is brought to you by … [say sponsor's name, show sponsor's logo, and say sponsor's catchphrase]”

PICISI is sponsored by:

Artsycoin is part of the PICISI community now, please continue to share our message as we share your message.  I'll let you know when we have a firm launch date.
