guys, it still isn't recognizing mine. It worked before, but now it keeps saying no devices detected, even when i started from the beginning again. My usb port still works, as i've plugged different things into it. Anyone have any advise for me?
Try to re-run the zadig USB drivers. See if the devices show up there. Make sure you're using the cgminer from this thread and not another version. |

The miner is very loud (like a blower or vacuum cleaner) and produces a lot of heat (all that energy becomes heat).
Right now Bitmain is only accepting Bitcoin Cash (BCC on their site) for payment. After you check out, you'll get the amount to send which also includes shipping costs.
Your order will ship in about month, maybe more - they're inconsistent.

You're highly unlikely to ever make a profit from USB miners. You need a machine that runs hundreds of times the number of chips on the USB miner, that is a current generation chip. What would the return rate be?
You'd lose money in all likelihood, and never get a return on the cost of the Pi+ hardware + power. These USB sticks are cheap for a reason - they're old and outdated. |

I checked, it's not listed as a COM device, but as a USB device.
The miner says:
USB init, open device failed, err -3, you don't have privilege to access - GSC device 2:3
GekkScience detect <2:3> failed to initialize (incorrect device?) resetting
Run cgminer as administrator and see if that works. The best way to do this is to open the command prompt as an admin: Browse to the command prompt shortcut, right click, choose "Run as Administrator" |

Holy crap! Isn't that overkill? Maybe you are the planning for a major expansion? Also, how noisy are those fans? I'm trying to design a small home basement mine. I don't know if its overkill - I have the 5 avalons, an eBit, and some S7s running - and have some S9s on order. Mining requires always expanding your hashrate as difficulty goes up. The fans are pretty noisy - about 90db. About the same as running a vacuum cleaner (or two). I run my miners in a warehouse, and they heat the rest of the warehouse. |

In your avalon openwrt on your controller, allow the range of IPs of the AwesomeMiner computer. For example, if your AwesomeMiner computer is 192.168.1.110 (a random IP I made up), you'd put in your config: W:127.0.0.1,192.168.1.110 This allows the local miner UI(127.0.0.1) and the computer at 192.168.1.110 (which you'd replace with your AwesomeMiner) to control the cgminer instance that runs your Avalon  |

An ASIC is a chip, not a server. A modern miner has hundreds of chips.
It costs millions of dollars to develop these chips, and then you need to design the boards and circuits that run them.
At the same time, these are not consumer electronics. They're made for a small percent of a small niche of people. That means many large consumer electronics companies have no desire to serve this market, because they can chase much bigger ones.
If money is no object, Bitfury can design a top of the line mining container for you. But for most of us here, we don't have the capital to design our chips, boards, and fabricate them all.

For some reason, the only way I can connect to configure my eBit miners is if I setup a separate network on a spare router and hardwire the miner and PC to the same network. Once configured, they hash happily on my normal internet connected network. If I need to reconfigure them, I need to reconnect them to my solo network. I am I missing something or is this normal for the eBit miners? Has anyone been able to wirelessly access the configuration on these machines?
As far as I know they don't accept wifi connections. Did you setup the machine for DHCP, or are you using a static IP? |

Thanks for the help guys, i finally have it working. Definitely had some facepalming confusion about the setup, but realized its basically impossible not to set it up through the precompiled folder.
Just a quick question, how long can i leave it running without a fan, and will a usb fan work as a valid form of cooling? If so, would i be able to leave it on 24/7 with a usb fan? Thanks guys
If you run it over stock settings (100 on the frequency), you need some fan. A USB fan works for most people. and one more questions, how long do you think it would take for me to get a payout from ckpool using just this usb asic miner?
CK's solo pool or CK's normal pool? If its the solo pool, it'll likely be never. If its the normal pool, your payout will be very very tiny and it'll depend on them finding blocks. So far, I don't think they've found many. okay, so now i've just tried to run cgminer again after turning it off overnight, and it's not recognizing the usb asic miner anymore?Do i have to reinstall the drivers and compiled folder every time or something?
If you're running the same cgminer, from the same folder, it should just work. It is possible your USB hub has died due to the power the sticks were pulling - this is especially seen with the USB3 hubs without external power supplies (like the Superbag ones) |

The hardware is just part of what you need.
An S9 consumes around 1500 watts of power 24/7 - so you need cheap electricity.
That 1500w of energy also turns into heat, so you need someway to deal with all that heat. It'd be the same as if you ran a medium sized heater (around 5000 btu) all the time.
In order to keep the air flowing, it has very fast and loud fans. This is a louder than having a vacuum cleaner running in the same room as you.
So you need a space with very good ventilation, its own power, that can have a loud noise running for 24 hours a day.
