Thats klintay's new hub he was generous enough to give me one for testing (eyeboot). Its got a 40A 5v PSU which is just enough to run about 25 at full speed. Will have to do some driver updates for these hubs since the driver is designed to start all sticks at once which causes some sticks to not start up due to the PSU not being able to handle all the current at once.

Exciting - can't wait for these to start shipping. Get some more hash rate over on the Arise pool in your sig.
562  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer s9 connection help on: October 27, 2017, 02:06:30 PM
Hi finally got my Antminer up and running yesterday and confirmed it is too loud to run through the night. Can have it on during the day u til I sell it though so I thought I would run it 12 hours a day until then.

My problem is when I restarted the miner today I can't get it to start.mining. it keeps resetting every few minutes the same as it did when I had the mining pool details wrong. I've tried the reset method from the miner software and also hard resetting from miner and re-entering details. However none of these fix the problem.

Quick update. - I can now get the miner to mine with the addresses that come prefilled on the config page but every time I try to switch to the correct pool and worker it stops mining. It then takes a few resets to get it back mining on the prefilled adresses

It'd help if you posted a screen shot of the "bad" addresses that don't work, so we can see if you're entering something wrong.

Just finished doing a test production run for ~40 units and all came out fully functioning. Should be ready to ramp up production quickly starting next week and you guys will be getting deliveries soon after!

What USB hub did you use? (Looks like a 50 port?)
564  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: October 27, 2017, 01:16:26 AM
I would double check that IP address , as it looks like that is the first device to be assigned one from your router.

When you say you reset the controller, did you maybe return everything to default, you might need to go through all the steps again to log in, the same way you did the first time, with the controllers default address.

I'll see if maybe I can force/manually assign another address from the router (would this solve the problem?) When I reset it, I meant to say that I both flashed the SD card, and power cycled the controller. I tried the default address of 192.168.0.100 but this never worked from the beginning.

I'm beginning to think more and more that this is more of a networking issue than hardware. Thanks for your insight!

It definitely sounds like a networking issue.

Your PC would need to have its IP address on the 192.168.0.x network to connect to the controller. Most consumer routers default to 192.168.1.x, so if you have one of the common ones that you didn't customize, you won't be able to connect.

I think it's dumb that the default Canaan image isn't set to DHCP, but not everyone can easily see all the DHCP clients on their network, I suppose.
565  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon 741 Wont mine on: October 26, 2017, 09:48:28 PM
Hello, I am having this same issue. None of the guides show if it's required to change static IP or how to. Is this necessary? I'm still on the default static IP, I'm connected via default LAN and I connected to my home wifi following 1st mining rig guide exactly. I'm trying to mine with slush pool. The pool data is entered correctly, as slush pool explains. Do I have to turn off Lan? If I do this how do I reconnect to the raspberry? I already got locked out once and had to re-flash. Also, I might also currently be locked out because I may have "accidentally" changed it to DHCP because I got impatient and went for it.

pls halp

Thank you.
Oh, and the light on the lil thing between controller ad miner is blue, and the LED's on the miner are yellow.

Yes, changing the IP is needed. If you use the default IP, its probably not the same network as your normal internet, so the machine isn't connecting to pools.

what do i change it to?

Change it to DHCP (instead of a static address)

Any one in Guangzhou want to go investigate?
567  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Ebit e9 miner with 6.8Th/s from Ebang company a new rival for existing producers on: October 26, 2017, 09:03:26 PM
I am getting a red "Calculus is too low" indicator on my e9.  Does anyone know what this means?

It means the hash rate is lower than the miner should have. Shouldn't be lower than 6ths or so based on the PLL.

I think Bitmain's contact database was compromised.

M

Yep - happened a couple months back. Bitmain sent out emails and urged everyone to change their password.

As i said:

You can't mine bitcoin with any off the shelf components or computers.

You need specialized equipment that's made by Bitmain, Canaan, or eBit.

You can't profitably mine Bitcoin directly with a Pi, or a GPU, or a Xeon, or  Cray supercomputer.
570  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Can't connect to Avalon 741 controller on: October 26, 2017, 04:10:08 PM
You need to change the IP address of your PC to be on the same network that Canaan has for the default image.

See here:
https://canaan.io/question/how-do-i-connect-an-avalonminer-721-and-avalonminer-controller-including-raspberry-pi-1-2-and-3/

from "Configuration Controller"

I suggest you set your controller to DHCP (and then change your PC back to DHCP) as it is easier.

Mining with what ? GPU ? ASIC ? CPU ? HDD ?

Wow. How to mine on HDD??

Find a coin that uses storage as its currency - something like Storj (and I think Burst?)
574  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon A7 announced on: October 26, 2017, 02:13:56 PM
Hey guys,

I'm completely new to mining with Avalon 741 hardware. I just received mine yesterday and had the worst time setting up the miner. I finally connected to it after extensively switching around IP addresses, and then after restarting the Pi (its a 3 model b), I could no longer connect. I can still see it on my network, but for some reason can't log in anymore. I flashed the SD card with the most up to date firmware, and still cannot access the controller. Any ideas on what could be going on?

Thank you for all your help!

Edit: The LED on the miner is Yellow, and the LED on the controller switches from Blue and Green every so often, but mostly stays blue.

First priority is to connect to the controller.

1) You need to set your IP address to the same network the controller is on. The default is 192.168.0.1.100.
( see here: https://canaan.io/question/how-do-i-connect-an-avalonminer-721-and-avalonminer-controller-including-raspberry-pi-1-2-and-3/ )

2) Once you connect, set it to DHCP so that it'll get an IP the normal way, and reset your PC to DHCP

Thanks for all your work, Kano!

Variance is always horrible, but good that it evens out in the long run.

The daemon that the pool runs isn't impacted by something like this: https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pull/10982 is it?

Im planning to build a mining rig, do you guys know how much it cost? And what are the tools needed?

You can't build Bitcoin rigs. You buy them pre-built - they're between $1000 - $2000 for current generation miners.

Just for fun, I pointed all my other miners here too -only a couple dozen TH, but I hope it brings some luck (and I love its lower fees than other pools.)
579  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon 741, video output on: October 24, 2017, 07:30:34 PM
You can SSH into the controller and see the logs/output there. I'm not sure if you can directly run the cgminer from there (never tried) but it should work.

Did anyone else notice an unusual delay in sending payments earlier today/last night? The suspicious side of me wonders if this has anything to do with the btc gold fork. I may be way off the mark and it was a technical glitch but the timing is just too convenient for me....

With the hundreds (likely thousands) of BTC slush has, seems unlikely they'd mess with payouts so they can get a couple of a soon to be worthless alt coin.
