641  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BitBay |Decentralized Marketplace|Smart Contracts|IoT Tech|Markets Open on: November 21, 2014, 12:38:11 PM

The slightly mysterious aspect of this coin for me is the ambiguous relationship with the Alibaba network.

In particular, this remark:

Furthermore, we use our contact list from Alibaba to help populate all the decentralized markets

In my opinion this is potentially one of the biggest - if not the single biggest - break from hitherto attempts at mainstream adoption by crypto projects,.

The problem with that remark though is that it's designed as a tease. It doesn't tell you anything useful. It could mean anything from "we've compiled a list of email addresses in Alibaba and we're going to spam them with info" to "we have conditional contracts to deploy Bitbay denominated markets under the Alibaba brand".

The encouraging aspects for investing are that the project team appears to have its centre of gravity predominantly located on the Asian side of the globe. There are also quite a lot of potential adopters over there as it happens (see last December Bitcoin explosion). To put things in perspective, Alibaba's annual operating income is about $4 Billion dollars - the same as Lockhead Martin who build nuclear weapons system amongst other things. (24800,000,000 Chinese Yuan). Also, they are a *specifically* eCommerce, business-to-business and business-to-consumer retail group. That puts them squarely in the target zone for crypto adoption which is why it doesn't surprise me that a project like this has emerged which combines both the technology (specific types of smart contracts) and a specific third party to address this market.

There's one hell of a gaping gap between those two pegged ends of the scale though and I hope something more developed than spamming a "contact list" is on the cards. Otherwise this will end up as another Blackcoin in no time.

The key word in that phrase to me seems to be populate. That is a very specific database engineering term that suggests existing databases being loaded into a new system.

I want to know more about how this will happen. Bitbay Team?

How can contacts from Alibaba just be put into the system? How do these contacts exist, won't Alibaba be against this? Who in the Staff bios have this kind of power and contacts?

Don't take this too personally but this coin doesn't need this kind of pump hype. In fact I think it damages it and makes people wary. Bitbay is clearly a well thought out project with some serious people involved and has massive potential because it has a real world use. So please maybe try to keep away from cheap shitcoin like PR, its as bad as FUD in many ways, people who have been around for a while are jaded and tired of this stuff.
643  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN][GEMS]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT REWARDS ITS USERS |Gems public sale| on: November 21, 2014, 03:13:20 AM
I personally don't like using Koinify, I don't like its decentralised and has people's emails and IP address potentially. I don't like it is attached to real people and so at some point can get a visit from the FBI etc. I do t care how hard people try to follow the law because the people who make the laws can change them for their benefit and those same people don't want anything undermining their control of the currency.

And how is Koinify raising the professionalism of ICO's with secret crowdsales and missing so far two set dates for starting? Was going to be the 1st, that changed to 18th, that seems to of passed unless the early bird crowdsales was for insiders.
644  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BitBay |Decentralized Marketplace|Smart Contracts|IoT Tech|Markets Open on: November 20, 2014, 02:51:23 PM
Why do you think someone or some people seem to want to keep the price in the 250-260 range. What im seeing is as soon as the price starts to edge higher and into the 260's someone sells a bit off to the buy wall which is full of 250's prices. Its too consistent to not be someones planned strategy. Why wouldnt they want to let the price rise and sell if that's what they want at a higher price?
645  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN][GEMS]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT REWARDS ITS USERS |Gems public sale| on: November 20, 2014, 10:00:19 AM
I'm suspicious of this early bird sale. I was logged onto site but got no invite which was planned for 18th start. But more I wonder if this is classic Dev buy secretly big into the crowdsale along with buddies.
646  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The Currency Most Likely to Challenge Bitcoin for Consumer Adoption on: November 20, 2014, 08:07:45 AM
only Neutral control systems like :

Quark

Mooncoin

Caps

others etc.

I don't doubt that Goldcoin could be there in the future, however you disabled it by those massive reward blocks then human interaction in the reward.

this human disability is also humans feature for survival.

Yes we will all be using Mooncoin. Brilliant!
647  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Qora | Released 16 May | 100% POS | New Source on: November 18, 2014, 10:35:25 PM
Here is another reminder of the form that I have created in order to establish a team around Qora who will manage things around Qora.
If you want to contribute to Qora and be a member of Qora team fill this form if you haven't done already.

As I have said this team will take care a lot of things regarding Qora so if you can contribute please fill that form!
We have take over Qora's Twitter account and Facebook account as well, so a social media manager is needed.
Also this team will try to moderate this thread, so a moderator / community manager is needed in order to achieve that.
Another thing that this team will try to do is development around Qora, things such website, bug portal etc. or even services on top of Qora, so developers are needed as well.

Qora is fully aware of this action and supports the idea of an established team dedicated to Qora.

But if you don't want to participate then you can stop by and tell us your opinion about Qora!

You lot seem so amateurish. First you Open Source and then developers either flock to your coin or they don't. Why don't people here know the basics? There has been an attempt to make a roadmap before, it's pointless. You even have a guy here wanting to devlop onto top of Qora and the dEveloper doesn't even bother to give Him the api. Fuck you guys you dont deserve a community cause you have acted against every principle of what makes a community in crypto. You only have yourself to blame for fucking yourself in the ass so hard.

6 months on your devloper is sitting on his own like some fucking autistic socially incompetent Rain Man while you have a bunch of fucking idiots who act like they are a bunch of newbie retards calling the shots. Its the fuck ups of all fuck ups when it comes to taking a decent coin and flushing it down the toilet.

What's you next move a logo contest...fuck me.

^^

Well even if it was pow it would be the same, power went into the hands of botnets and large mining farms. The rest of your comment is just prejudice.

Couple signs imo this project is legit

- Devs attend meetings and conferences, soon going to insidebitcoin Paris, we haven't seen that in a loooong time
- They are not anonymous
- Working beta ready for launch where majority of other scams don't have anything ready
- The concept is solid and promising to go viral in the social messaging space and with the right promotion it can reach millions of users
- Build on top of Bitcoin through Counterparty gives it a solid foundation and reported by huge amount of crypto news outlets
- They will store the money in multi-sig wallets with BitGo, and Adam (Counterparty co-founder) releases the funds in a milestone based requirement tier. So they get paid per development.
- Stellar and all those others are just too complicated and impossible to understand for the average person where gems is everyone already familiar with

If there is any app that can get the average person into the Bitcoin ecosystem than this is it, so i don't see a reason to disappear while staying with it would reward them more anyway and i think the devs know this swell, that's why their presents in paris, you wouldn't take the time and money to fly over there to promote it if it's a scam.

I think this coin is legit I just think ICO's don't make much money for anyone but the developers. nearly every ICO I have invested in crashed in price after it ended. I'm concerned even more for this one cause it last for Sooo long. Bitbay had one for 4 days and got 3000btc and then inevitably dropped in price straight after. Gems has an ICO for over a month! so I expect again a big drop after. what frustrates me about these ICO is those most interested in the project that buy in the ICO time period normally pay more than those who do after.
649  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN][GEMS]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT REWARDS ITS USERS |Gems public sale| on: November 17, 2014, 10:01:03 PM
I'm concerned that NXTTY hasn't managed to get more than 1,000-5,000 downloads on google play. Yes GEMS has a better chance and a good way to attract downloaders but still less than 5,000 after a few weeks isn't a good sign. I'm worried that if I stick a lot of BTC into this coin it might be quite a big drop in price if it doesn't do much better than NXTTY.

Is it better to wait for the likely drop in price after the ICO? Seems this is the norm on these massive ICO's.

This was asked during the Gems ama aswell.

AIRDROP: Daily airdrop of gems - Every day, ~27,400 gems are air dropped from the Exodus Address. The ecosystem automatically distributes these gems between users according to their relative network contribution. Contribution is measured by the number of active daily users which were introduced by you to the network so far.

The contribution score for a user is calculated according to two complementary factors: (1) The total number of new, active users that the user invited during the time period. This calculation is directly related to the active-user counts (total of active users per original inviter). (2) The total number of gems that the user currently holds in his account. This means that users with large amount of gems will be rewarded more generously than users without gems.

PRESALE PERKS: Since daily airdrop rewards users who introduce other users, who is rewarded for those who come without a special invitation? Uninvited users will be attributed to random Presale buyers (this is a MAJOR bonus in our opinion). In addition, air drop share is multiplied by total gems owned. The more gems you own, the more gems you make - an advantage to those who accumulate gems first.

The Gems concept is very promising, so it's all promotion and network effect. Gems has been doing pretty good with promoting, they make video interviews, attend meetings, pretty much all crypto news outlets have reported on Gems including Coindesk which is for me very important the Crypto i invest in if the devs are ambitious, that's why i asked if they will attend meetings etc. which is important for a serious project. The team will also attent insidebitcoin conference in Paris which we haven't seen since a long time where devs really go public and know what they aim for.

It seems Gems is pretty well received by the Bitcoin community since it's build on top of it so it, but agqain it come down to promotion and users. It starts with the devs which they are doing better than nxtty, i have the idea that they have pretty solid connections.

Usually ipo who decline in price like blocknet and other, devs don't have anything ready on launch. Gems has the IOS beta ready at launch so they are delivering a working beta. I don't know to wait for after the crowdsale or buy at it but the early buyers get more Gems

Yes but imagine after the ICO, 3000 btc sold and the app after a month or so still has less than 5,000 downloads like NXTTY. Then we would see a big crash in price, I personally might buy some in the ICO but I think if you want to accumulate it will be better to save some BTC for the very likely crash. I don't know it would crash but many similar ICO's like this have.

I guess time will tell, but the gems dev team are better promoters, they have also a better concept imo. Here a video interview http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TdNc8RSyft0&t=8m20s, they also got interviewed by lets talk bitcoin and will attent insidebitcoin conference in paris, i don't know if they will speak about gems, but i haven't seen nxtty devs coming out like that? For me it's important that gems is build on top of bitcoin so it's more solid than getting build on top of nxt.

They for sure know what they want

Our plan is to complete the development milestones to get an edge. There isn't another social crypto app with these features: - the powerful message that everyone shares in the success of the network - the viral concept of being rewarded for inviting your friends - the balanced and fair advertising model (creating inherent demand and value) - built in Gems/Bitcoin wallet - username is an alias to the gems address, making sending & receiving gems and bitcoins between users as easy as sending an SMS to your friend - Be as anonymous as you desire. encrypted communications. (WhatsApp and Skype style registrations)

Gems aims to be a gateway to cryptocurrency, encrypted social messaging and the ability to transmit value via txt message. we think Gems is in a very good spot to get a foothold in one of the most sought after spaces in the crypto market.
If the community helps us and Gems app goes viral, gems and bitcoin can reach hounders thousands if not few millions of new users. Thats Big. (Just as a comparison the biggest web wallet Blockchain.info just reached 2 million wallets, probably few hounders thousands of users, there must be and will be a better way to bring crypto to the masses).
One of our main goals is to bring more females to the crytpo scene. females are the best adopters of social networks (facebook, whatsapp, instagram, pinterest etc), dedicated crypto wallet isn't enough to keep them interested but integration with a social network can open up many interesting possibilities.

As the network grows and new features are added, some of those will require payment to sustain. Gems will always exist as a payment option for any value added features available in the app. Additionally, as new p2p reward models are created, new opt-in features will become available enabling sharing economy type activities, crowdfunding, and more. Since this is the first time the users will control the core value of the social network it is too early to predict what new novel ideas will come into existence.
We know there will be many complications and hurdles but our heart is in the right place and with the help of the crypto community to grow the network, Gems will be an important step for mainstream adoption.

Problem is all these kinds of promotions and profile are a tiny gulag of a bitcoin people. Even NXTTY with all what looked like a big NXT community behind it couldnt even get past 5,000 downloads with them downloading and trying to add friends I'm sure. So I think the elephant in the room with these apps like GEMS is when it comes to the crunch can it really get a large user base. NXTTY at least makes my doubts increase and makes me think we might see a large drop in price once the ICO is done and we also can't get past say 10,000 users. It would be a shock to the project at least who has Whatsapp like figures as its goal. I'll save some BTC for the post sale but that's just me.

nice would be good to highlight it in the OP
There is also this rj parker guy from coin proz talking about Gems which is pretty good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=54RROzWFRv4

added to the OP. thanks.

The video is out of date, saying the airdrop is 25m etc.

About the coin numbers, I don't want to spark a silly discussion about this like NEM has but 200m if that is correct is a terrible figure. Your first 10billion was much better, here's why. let's say you just had 1 billion coins and say you got mildly popular, like 1m users which is conservative, still hard to achieve but not a roaring success. Well you would only have 1000 coins per user and with uneven distribution most users would have less than 1 coin so the whole bitcoin decimal place thing becomes the norm. Now that is for 1 billion, imagine only 200m! Us Bitcoin users are acclimatised to fractions but to the mainstream it's not user friendly, people would much prefer and understand if they have a few hundred or thousand Gems than .372 of a GEM.

Personally think the coin amount should be in billions at least, possibly as much as 10bn, maybe even as much as 100 billion. seriously....I think you got nudged off your original figure from one user being critical. basically I'm saying you need to plan for success, even if you don't achieve it you have to assume it will be and then people will start saying why the hell did you only have 200m coins of you wanted to become mainstream? Grin

Don't despise me I just need to get some fiat in a couple of weeks for bills. I just bought some BTC from fiat and bought some Bitbay, whats the chances I can make a quick turnaround in a few weeks. Basically will the price move much in the next couple of weeks?
655  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why POW is dead. on: November 12, 2014, 08:52:15 PM
I guess that continuing with the original idea that was put in place by Satoshi is an excercise in discipline.
If we start changing and adjusting the system at our whim then the hard limit of 21 million coins might be the next target and so on.

At some point we will no longer recognize Bitcoin for what it used to be, and the idea of keeping any promise would vanish into oblivion. Would you trust the money system that is constantly changing not keeping the original promise? Sounds a lot like today's politics to me.

Time will tell, but so far the market favors stability.

Bitcoin IS the stability. Now we buy other digital assets. Most serious altcoins these days are not really currencies but tokens to be used within a system. When we buy into POS we are really buying into an asset, a company or a service...not a currency.
656  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Why POW is dead. on: November 12, 2014, 08:36:28 PM
Think of it like this, we already mined and made the money ie Bitcoin so why keep making/mining more money and all the waste energy that comes with that.

Now it makes sense to use the mined money ie BCT to buy into other currencies or assets.

POW is dead.

Fulcare is rabbiter. Just analyze his writting and you'll notice it. He along with whales such as dsarmush, reanto, agran and of course QORA have dumped or are dumping.
He wants you to buy his qora. He wants out. He said himself a few posts back "he is glad to be out of such coin" just moments after attempting to pump this coin again, but in reality he still has some more to dump.
When this whole thing blows don't come a-saying "nobody warned me!"

These are some of Qora's account:
http://qora.co.in/?q=Qe2XiSMJfbGUgBkxiNkc2a72prxtcM5MhN
http://qora.co.in/?q=Qj5wGsM2BY8NGvEFpjToRyrEnaesT7PyUX

http://qora.co.in/?q=QXcxayi3Kj5EgqREaCguCFgRw2e575PFmH
I think he has more than 200m qora left

And this is one of agran's account selling:
http://qora.co.in/?q=QXncuwPehVZ21ymE1jawXg1Uv3sZZ4TvYk&genblock=0
Notice how he recently sent 19m to bter. This is not his first withdrawal.
I  think I got reanto, dsarmush and rabbiter's account right too but I don't wanna make inaccurate accusations.

Why the sudden interest? I thought you said Qora is a NXT clone etc etc. You are Renat0 without a doubt, and I'm guessing you are the 8 btc wall at 14. dumb. You are beyond the doubt the stupidest retard on this forum. How could anyone possibly convince a community that a developer who is now as we speak integrating AT into the verified as original code be dumping coins to get a few bitcoins at this low price? Your idiocy in ok on a shitcoin thread but on here you deserve to living in some kind of sheltered housing with other special needs kids for trying that nonsense.

Community can we please get past these fake sell walls that have been set up. Traders do this to have a safe position to skim off cheaply on the buy side, its classic 101 dick trading. I hate to see Qora below 20 sats we should stick together and push up and NO ONE sell.

Who's with me? If we all throw even a fraction of BTC at the wall we will soar. Don't question, just do it! Buy in increments of .1 BTC so everyone knows its the community power rising!
