As demand rises...

I had to surgically extract this short little phrase out of your commentary being that for me it represents the elephant in the room right there.

I can see how the supply can be managed ok. It's the "as demand rises..." bit that seems to trip off everybody's a bit too easily. Where is that demand going to come from ? eBay has an operating income of over $3 billion dollars. Taking market share off them will be like pulling teeth because the nature of auction markets is such that the bigger the audience for your auction, the higher the price you can sell your stuff at.

Where's the "demand" half of the price equation going to come from for Bitbay markets ? How will people be encouraged to adopt ? I can only see 2 answers but I'm absolutely open to other suggestions if I've missed them:

[1] - create new markets which exclusively use Bitbay

[2] - get existing ones (like eBay & Alibaba) to adopt your coin as a currency and sell the idea that they can extend their platform feature set based on the coin's bockchain

In either case the offering must swing on features that users can't get elsewhere. What would those features be and what prevents a counterparty with huge infrastructure like eBay from implementing them ?

The basic appeal of a cryptocurrency is twofold:

 - you ditch the counterparty (banks)
 - you get your hands on unlevered base money (which you don't do with fiat money)

I can see one area where that appeal translates to bitbay - in attracting users who don't have access to bank accounts and therefore can't get registered on eBay. That's one clear, well delineated group of potential adopters. What are the others ?

I don't think you understand the technology and I think you are embarrassing yourself by continuing to not understand it.

I thought there was an early bird phase?

Just for insiders with big pockets and small brains. There can be no other reason at all to have such a thing if you will sell at the same price later anyway. Koinify also wants to be some IPO set up away from the great unwashed on this site and straight into the big money players who gravitate to Silicon valley which is where they are set up.

I was registered on the site, got no invite. I expect no one on this thread got an invite cause the early bird stage was to get some big money saps to invest in a comfortable way where they are personally talked to and given the story how this will be the next whatsapp etc. ie people like you and I need not apply.

I got the invite 24hrs ago and bought coins. There are reasons to buy xgem early. Like to show your support.

You know a newbie account popping up makes this claim seems even more suspect, right?

trolls are no good to any coins

How am I a troll? I simply said getting any real numbers is very difficult which NXTTY has started to find out.

Nobody wants an app build on top of nxt which has been getting scam accusations left and right, gems is backed by Bitcoin which is a huge difference, also nxtty marketing sucked probably big time, who are the devs, are they giving interviews, do they visit conventions, who are they in partnership with? i think it's time for you to start reading first https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=758004.msg9625353#msg9625353

It's you joke you are using nxtty as a benchmark

Oh the developers go to Bitcoin conventions and have a youtube interview. My mistake, you are easily going to get a few million downloads now. If I know anything is that teenagers who use apps like this love Bitcoin conventions. lol. You've defined the problem I'm trying to articulate better than I ever could.

BTW I tried to tell people on NXTTY these same inconvenient facts and they said I was just FUD etc as well. Now they can't get past a thousand or so downloads my points aren't looking so stupid now.

How about you read these first

and here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1a129pSWTDWKWt945Un7NyTxTKPiVq5MjGFLs8mIuZug/edit#heading=h.g39lq9b7eajt

And watch the epicenter bitcoin interview with gems today https://plus.google.com/events/c3divjphjj5v0tkf33q6c23l3ak

YES it's important if devs are active and go public to promote their idea. This is how an idea starts to rise and gets promoted to the point that it gets used by teenagers, nxtty doesn't have this and it's not backed by bitcoin neither you can use bitcoin in the app. Again, don't use nxtty as a benchmark

I told you I've read everything GEMS related!

And again I ask you to walk out into the street and ask the first 3 young people if they prefer to use a chat messenger app using the Bitcoin Blockchain or NXT's blockchain. You're not getting it are you, in the mainstream no one cares which is why NXTTY will struggle as will GEMS. I wil keep coming back to say I told you so for the next year.

Did the price really drop 15% and the vol drop like a lead ballon on that groundless FUD? My only problem as an investor is I tend to go all in once I find something that I believe is a real opportunity. Sadly that means I don't have any BTC to buy more. I think I will keep some BTC back from now on to buy on stupid falls!

Peeled disappeared and now this guy is posting it seems for GEMS. Please no more sockpuppets.

I was going to invest in this one but I decided not to seeing NXTTY unable to get past even 5,000 downloads. ai think this is a one in a thousand chance of getting traction.

Social media campaigns need LOTS of real-life traction, sticker giveaways, campaigns, posters, conferences, contests, etc... And lots of user buzz. Look at how Reddit got started for a good 'guide'.

NXTTY and Gems have almost nothing in common. please read here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=758004.msg8594258#msg8594258
and here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1a129pSWTDWKWt945Un7NyTxTKPiVq5MjGFLs8mIuZug/edit#heading=h.g39lq9b7eajt

We understand the importance of Social media campaigns and are working on a viral campaign and partnerships.

So they aren't both a messenger app combined with a new crypto currency. Oh my mistake.  Roll Eyes Completely different.

Hey, I think you may have missed this.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=758004.msg8594258#msg8594258

Already read everything related to GEMS thanks. It is whether you want to distance yourself from the failure of NXTTY then go ahead but you are to anyone who downloads this app a messenger app with a crypto currency bolted on. Yes you have some innovative ways to distribute and use the coins for advertising BUT this will have no point what so ever to the average user and also more importantly unless you get a million plus users advertisers simply won't even care. So how many people have NXTTY got after a month or so? Not even 5,000 downloads it's just as likely to be only a couple of thousand in total. I think newbie accounts and this NETNOX guy is clearly working for GEMS and is pushing the we are going to be the new Whatsapp which is just as bad as the usual hype of coins that say they are going to be bigger than Bitcoin. The truth is getting numbers of people to use this app beyond the small sector or crypto users will be very very hard. It would be fairer if you say to investors this is a long shot but it might just work rather than compare yourself to FB and Whatapp and ask for millions in dollars for what is a basic messenger app.

I still think many even those invested haven't quite had 'the penny drop' for them yet.

I would make a bold statement and say IF the tech works smoothly then this project cannot, I repeat cannot fail. Unless you believe people don't want to buy stuff safely online with zero fees and cast iron arrangements with sellers/buyers that means no one ever gets ripped off again. And like David implied this is just one of the possibilities of the system. I'm waiting for people to 'get it' and when they do expect the price chart to have a massive erection!
636  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BitBay |Decentralized Marketplace|Smart Contracts|IoT Tech|Markets Open on: November 22, 2014, 03:19:16 PM
Toknormal. Enough. Leave already.  You have promised to leave. So leave. You are polluting this thread.

I don't know why you're all complaining. Everytime I post challenges to the viability or transparency of this project's promotional material the price goes up. It's now nearly 15% above IPO. You should be asking for more  Wink

BTW your second quote above was from me, not David. You owe him an apology.

So it was. David I apologise.

not totally transparent...

Ooh, they will be totally transparent.... But we just have to wait till the 1st of December to know how the sale is going and for the cloud to clear.

The public crowd sale will be launched December 1st. That is when the public has access to the platform. That is where the details are displayed. When you have access to the platform, you will see all the details of the sale.

Its very simple....theres nothing to hide here. You just don't have access to our platform yet. We're rolling it out in batches before the 1st (not an un-common practice) - where the playing field is equal (2,250 extra XGEM's for invite sale, and during first 48 hours).

We're in invite phase, where you can only see the project if you're invited. When you get your invite/join publicly, you will see everything else everybody else is seeing. Just because we're not opening the flood gates to everybody from day one dosen't mean theres anything to hide. Please refer to Circle's launch to see an invite-only roll out example.

Everything is verifiable on the blockchain. Please, I encourage all members and participants to check our finances upon launch per the sale to see the BTC and XGEM's line up.

This early bird sale to a select few is not a good practice if you want to raise the bar on ICO's. Just for sake of argument some big whale with thousands of BTC or close friends of you wanted to comfortably buy big early then this is a way for them to do so. Will you limit them if they tried to buy like 20% of the coins?
638  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: BitBay |Decentralized Marketplace|Smart Contracts|IoT Tech|Markets Open on: November 21, 2014, 10:17:20 PM
Wow anyone notice that Bitbay shot it's load over on Bittrexx and is trading in the 330's. A big arbitrage opportunity if your quick. BTER seems to have too much bots trading that is controlling the price.

So they will just say to these vendors, hey put your stuff on our site and Alibaba wont have any problem with that? How many vendors? Variety? A bunch of chinese laptops wont cut it.

Rome wasn't build in one day. Take it easy with your panic mode.

Do you want them to email you every time they get in touch with some vendor? Those things are kept hidden for a reason. May be go to URO and ask them how their vendor got harassment calls from fudders who had nothing better to do with their life.

btw those chinese laptops are sold more than HP or any other top brand in China and other third world countries.

Sorry you thought asking multiple questions with commas means I'm in panic mode.

How Bitbay plans to populate its market is an essential part of the equation. Just like people ask how the tech works cause they want to know then the market side of it also is a valid discussion. Again I hope the Bitbay team can give more details about the plan, and details don't have to mean naming names.

I'm asking for more detail than we have some contacts with Alibaba and we are going to populate our system with them. More detail please.
