661  Other / Politics & Society / A Concise Political Views Poll on: February 18, 2012, 05:51:32 AM
I expected something like this to be on this board. I guess not.
662  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Objections to the non-aggression principle on: February 18, 2012, 05:37:31 AM
Conclusion: "Rights" are a fiction. "Evil" is only what we don't prefer as individuals.
663  Other / Politics & Society / Am I the only one that doesn't stand for the pledge and the national anthem? on: February 18, 2012, 05:26:57 AM
A country is such a spook of an idea especially when an entity or culture can only genuinely represent so many people, let alone 350 million in the United States. Why stand for something so intangible? Why pay any regard to it? Why should I pledge allegiance to anything purportedly above myself?

I refused to stand for the national anthem at a hockey game today and I got nasty looks but isn't that what the United States is supposed to stand for; individual liberty?
664  Other / Off-topic / Re: Idea: Ban a user for $10 in Bitcoins. on: February 17, 2012, 11:36:57 PM
Great. Lets turn this place into a giant echo chamber filled with people fellating each other over fear of getting banned. That's where good ideas are born...in giant circle jerks like SA. Right?

Aww....see I prob would have just been bought a ban for being a smartass...so yeah, id vote no...if this were an actual thing
An armed society is a polite society.

Hm, I guess it would be a good idea to let people ban the user(s) that banned them.
665  Other / Off-topic / Re: Idea: Ban a user for $10 in Bitcoins. on: February 17, 2012, 11:24:58 PM
oh this is great, so i just make accounts, ban everyone. and they buy back i double my money each time. absolutely brilliant atlas
I don't see any problem with this.  You just bought out the forum, congrats. The community will just probably create a new one anyways.

I doubt many people will pay $20 to get back in though. You will likely suffer a huge loss so non-sequitur.
666  Other / Off-topic / Re: Idea: Ban a user for $10 in Bitcoins. on: February 17, 2012, 11:09:09 PM
The rich win control everywhere else in the world.  Do they really need to win control here too?
I don't think anyone has a inherent right to a say in a forum community. The people who are willing to invest money into it likely have the most to gain or lose out of anyone and they should have the ability to represent their desires with their own assets.

...but, hey, if you want "free" forum moderation, BitcoinTalk might be the place for you. I am not proposing this for this forum but for a new one.
667  Other / Off-topic / Idea: Ban a user for $10 in Bitcoins. on: February 17, 2012, 10:58:03 PM
What are your thoughts on forum software that allows you and the community to ban users for a price of $10 in Bitcoins? I think it would be a good form of moderation and people could put their money where their mouth is for great demands of community quality.

It would be like an inverse form of SomethingAwful. Users that were banned can get their IP address unblocked for $20 and the people who banned him will get paid back in full plus profit. Of course, they can just get banned again by the same group of users for $20. The price will increase $10 every time one side has its say. So if the user gets banned again, it will cost him $30 to get back in and so forth.

Thoughts?

ADDITION: Banned users can ban the people who banned them in return for the starting price of $10. The prices may have to be lowered to increase the effectiveness of the whole system though.

A list of banned users and people who ban will be open to the community. People can unban people they like.

I assume public proxies and the like will be gradually banned by evading users. IPv6 addresses will have to be grouped into ranges.

I used to work at Nordstrom. I guess I wasn't the only one, Theymos? Who authored this?

Slightly longer answer:  It does the same thing as when you throw away a hundred dollar bill.  You lose money, and everyone else's money gains a little value.
Hardly, when money is created out of thin air every time a bank makes a loan.
I was questioning the example. The post was relevant but it's not up to my discretion, is it?
670  Other / Meta / Detailed Ban Reasons? on: February 17, 2012, 04:05:29 AM
Maybe I didn't read the rules well enough. Maybe I don't understand what off-topic really is.

Maybe I'll never know considering I never got a detailed reason for my 3 day off-topic ban but, hey, I am not entitled to anything. It's not like the people who own this forum are held to a moral standard. They can do whatever they want.

No sarcasm intended.
671  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Magazine on: February 17, 2012, 01:25:59 AM
Dear Bitcointalk.org users,

We at Bitcoin Magazine, were unaware of the actions or intentions of the user paraipan and subsequently asked him to remove the reference to Bitcoin Magazine in his signature. He volunteered to work for the magazine as a Spanish translator but has not had any direct involvement with the development of the magazine to date. His actions do not in any way reflect the opinions of Bitcoin Magazine. His future at the magazine is pending further discussion.

Sincerely,

Bitcoin Magazine

I read this in Herme's voice.

Anyways, as a Bitcoin Magazine customer that knows Matthew is a convicted BitcoinTalk scammer, this couldn't change my view of the magazine in any way.
672  Economy / Speculation / Re: Oh the Cognitive Dissonance on: February 17, 2012, 01:13:15 AM
Bitcoin needs a period of extended hyperinflation so it can see more economic use.

Yes, that would work flawlessly(!) It's not like people come to Bitcoin as a store-of-value(!)

674  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Which Country Will Emerge As The Next Banking King? on: February 17, 2012, 12:54:54 AM
Every first-world country is subject to international banking sanctions. There will be no Bitcoin banking king...

...besides Tor hidden services.
675  Economy / Speculation / Re: FinCEN's Impact? on: February 17, 2012, 12:37:36 AM
This is speculation, friend. They talk reality. We talk price.
676  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Targeted By Latest FinCEN Ruling? – Implications Are Profound on: February 17, 2012, 12:34:51 AM
It's nothing but words on paper at the moment.

There are no real implications until FinCEN makes a move and demonstrates its might.
677  Economy / Speculation / FinCEN's Impact? on: February 17, 2012, 12:32:18 AM
If FinCEN has their way, unregulated Bitcoin exchanges will bite the dust if they attempt to sell to US customers. Worst case scenario, Bitcoins won't be legal to be sold and exchanged in the US due to it being an unregulatable money-value service.

I can imagine this would increase demand and thus the price; especially in use for darkweb markets, mainly the SilkRoad. However, I will still ask all of you:

What is the likely impact of FinCEN's recent release on Bitcoin's value? Is FinCEN more bark than bite?

I bought a VPS last night and the VNC IP came with an invalid port.

Phantom, a little help here?

Soothe our fears and tell us why Bitcoinica will not be hacked and tell us about how our money will not be stolen out of thin air?

Bitcoinica has been running great for the last 5 months, and we're the fastest growing Bitcoin business ever. Also, we will soon announce our new corporate status.
Thank you. One more thing:

Will you ever require IRS paperwork and identification for large American Bitcoin withdrawals? If you ever have to, will you warn us beforehand?
