This thread is to function simply as a relatively chronological index of the articles that appear in the Press forum.

This thread is useful as it provides a convenient notification method to learn about each new thread posted.

Those wishing to "subscribe" to this thread with a post are welcome to do so, but please keep it one word ... "subscribe".
With the new Watchlist feature, simply click the link for Watch in this thread to cause this post to reappear in your watchlist whenever there is a new entry added to this index.  Here's more on the Watchlist:

An alternate approach is to use the new Watch Board feature, which will automatically add all new entries to the Press board of the forum to your watchlist:
 - http://bitcointalk.org/watch_board.php  (input 77, then press "Watch board")

There is also this method to simply view the list of posts, chronologically:
 - http://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=77.0;sort=first_post;desc  (Sort By First Post - oldest first)

Please no comments about the articles here, and no links to the article itself, only to the new forum thread created for the article.

Amir's comment is pretty spot on ...  there's some pretty interesting situations coming up.

"The battle between pirates and the music or film industries is really nothing, it’s a warm-up.  When this technology matures, manufacturers, agriculture businesses, technology firms, any of this could be easily replicated by almost anyone, anywhere. That’s when we’ll see the real fight".
6812  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What to do when MTGOX gets shut down ? Are we ready for coincalypse ? on: April 20, 2012, 05:41:21 PM
Bitcoin is used globally.  If what you fear happening occurs, it will be telegraphed well in advance.  It took FinCEN nearly 15 years since the first prepaid debit cards existed to do anything to try to curb their use as an anonymous cross-border money transfer tool (i.e., could take more than $10K out of the U.S. legally if value was on prepaid debit cards).  Nearly a decade passed after the was first identified as a very real problem to the regulators.

Being a member of the crowd I'ld love to help support this musician ... by purchasing her music.  Unfortunately, I can't seem to find any of her singles or albums on CoinDL though.  (hint, hint).

6814  Economy / Services / Re: Looking for someone to create/modify software for this forum [1700+ BTC] on: April 20, 2012, 08:23:10 AM
There's now 1700+ BTC in the forum fund, and I'm still accepting bids.

That was over a month ago now with that total.  Sometimes using a big round number like "2, 000 BTC worth over $10,000 USD" is something that can generate a  higher level of interest by prospective bidders.

In Ed McMahon's voice ...  "Tympani"!
6815  Economy / Gambling / Re: Using SHA512 hash as random number generator for Gambling services on: April 20, 2012, 05:57:55 AM
Whoa, I didn't know you were using Mega Millions numbers. Why not use the hash of a block 20 blocks after the draw closes?

For one, the delay is no good -- lotto players want to know, with as little delay as possible, if they've hit the jackpot.

Using a block hash means the result is one that has the poentital to be be manipulated.  If the miner with big bets on BitLotto finds a valid hash and then discards it because it doesn't also result in a winning lotto ticket, then the results are going to end up being different.  The result in that case was manipulated.

So instead by using Mega Millions numbers as data that then gets hashed then this risk of manipulation no longer exists.
6816  Economy / Gambling / Re: BitLotto raffle is 1 yr old! Apr 4 jackpot 280 BTC! May 2 over *200 BTC* so far! on: April 20, 2012, 05:43:04 AM
Minor fixes to the details page on BitLotto.com. The most significant:
Quote
A blockchain re-organization that changes the lucky block and occurs after the Mega Millions draw will cause the lottery numbers to come from Friday's Mega Millions draw.

The timestamp in the block accurate enough to be used for determining this so how is "when the re-organization occurs" determined?   Is it based on the local clock when the BitLotto node first learns of any reorg blocks?

If so, then the configuration of the BitLotto node can cause it to end up with different results than other nodes.  To correct for this, specifically, the node should not allow any incoming connections and it should explicitly connect to certain well-connected nodes (e.g., DeepBit or other pool).

Do the Bitcoin.org client logs keep this information with a timestmap so it can be determined from the log when the blocks were received by the node?

6818  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Anonpaste accepts Bitcoin on: April 20, 2012, 01:41:33 AM
Anonymous' version of Pastebin as it is now being censored. An add free service supported by bitcoin donations.

I was trying to think of a way this would work as a poor-man's Instawallet to allow you to pass a Bitcoin more anonymously.  So instead of having to transfer a Bitcoin wallet's private key to relay funds, you get this URL whose contents will include the Bitcioin wallet's private key.

Like this:
 - Create a paper wallet and copy the private key (e.g., using http://www.bitaddress.org )
 - Fund it
 - Paste the private key into an AnonPaste.tk
 - Send (encrypts and sends to server)
 - Copy the URL

Pass the URL securely

 - Paste the URL (retrieves from server and decrypts)
 - Copy the private key.
 - Import the key (e.g., into My Wallet from http://BlockChain.info/wallet and create a spend transaction that secures the funds.)

This doesn't really have much benefit over just passing the private key itself has (except maybe for the options like having the message destroyed after 10 minutes) but let's say you wanted to include instructions in the message or otther details this way you can include the bitcoin funds within your message paste.

And the URL to give it a spin:

which contains a donate link for:

Based on:

To create a new wallet: https://easywallet.org

Any reason http://www.easywallet.org shouldn't either resolve or get a redirect if it needs to be http://easywallet.org?
