Quoting the roach, -1 WO point for you!

Seriously.

I'm thinking we need to start having the ability of issuing demerits for particularly egregious posts. Say at a 3:1 conversion ratio. 3 merit points required to issue 1 demerit against someone.

/meta

We can setup a system where you receive so many merits per month you spend on shit like quoting the roach. JJG starts with a negative number just because. Smiley

Guys, now I'm sure that your hats are all cursed!

Comparing with altcoins, 24-hours change of bitcoin looks awful.

Shit buying opportunity missed. Sad

If thousands of shitcoins are treated as equally special, then none of them are. Nothing but a bunch of penny stock trash.

Bitcoin is the only crypto that matters. Everything else is irrelevant.

Well lets not go off the deep end here, the perfect code has never been written.
It is inevitable that the future will hold better systems.
Of course there will me millions of shitcoins in between the valid ones. Smiley

Never stopped running it. Just sorta turned off auto pilot, and letting it sit there do it's thing. It costs me a minimal investment in time to upkeep, so why not ?

Just haven't talked about it much, because, well, LN is boring as fuck, still has a ways to go - in terms of better managing automatic channel re-balancing - and figured there was no further point in discussing it as it's not going to be a profitable endeavor in the near-future (if ever ?)

I imagine a year from now, it'll be in a much better place, but still really really rough to use (I had a purchase timeout on me twice, with plenty of funds available, and being a well connected node - I gave up trying to pay the invoice), and rebalancing channels is all manual and really not fun needing to deal with, redoing channel policies depending on the state of each channel.

Run a node with > 100 channels, and it's a huge un-lubed pain-in-my-ass.

Case in point a few posts later. Lol

That is true, I forgot the key difference between drunks and alcoholics:

Alcoholics go to meetings.

in need for a morning coffee and some action please Roll Eyes

edit: by now even the coffee guy knows what BTC is Grin

Shit finally caught up to today and it's almost tomorrow!

But we should also consider that BTC is still the best implementation of a cryptocurrency.  And if there was something that's gonna outlive every coin in the space, it's still gonna be BTC imho.

The rest haven't really been tested at the same scale that BTC has.

Heh... okay okay yah I disappear for almost a year then come back and can't fucking shut up, huh... LOL

Well it'll happen or it won't happen regardless of my whistling past the graveyard or screaming into the storm winds, right?  Heh...

BTC going up and XMR going up with it - as are some of the other alts.

Ok, it could be temporary, but it feels pretty bullish after dips and endless sideways motion....  Is it going to be a pleasant November?

I say YES. Smiley

Could you plz stop hyping yourselves up i want a few more months ok? tyvm Smiley

Seriously it's basically just pure glee at this point coming up with reasons to milk a clock for every spare additional fifteen minutes just so i can buy some fractional amount of monero every two weeks.

Yup, smart. I too have been trying to do the same for the last year.

@KeyJockey seems to just want to yell it from the rooftops. Tongue

good morning BTC'ers waking up with some nice piece of art ain't to bad Grin

That my friend is some cool shit!

where did you pick it up?

You must be mixing me up with someone else.

I don't tend to make any BTC price predictions beyond 60% or maybe 65% if I am really feeling confident about a certain short term leg (which doesn't come too often).

Currently, I feel as if I am in the sub 55% confidence arena, generally speaking, so you should not be expecting any bold statements from me, unless I usually am criticizing (or otherwise commenting about) various predictions of other forum members.

Quoting the roach, -1 WO point for you!

It's comforting to remember that the longer we stay in this side-movement limbo, accumulated trade energy will make the next move more volatile. Moon soon.

Definitely looks like accumulating.

Not sure if this is the correct place to ask but I wonder if Monero will get listed on any of US based exchanges?

kraken

Kraken is from San Francisco, and I allways thougth it was from Europe... already used it several times with euro

Kraken bought several exchanges in past. So they sort of merged many teams located in many countries.

Yeah, I think it was Canadian originally.  charts look good today, we seem to be decoupling again around the 100 mark last few months and we should see more btc migration with time for all the obvious reasons.

How do you guys deal with excessive drinking? I mean, I'm functional, but would still like to cut down.
I had to just stop it all together, and sought the support of AA for a few years. If you feel that you may have developed a physical dependency, (like having to drink everyday to avoid the shakes,) I would seek medical advice before attempting to stop or cut down.

I have Ibian ignored, but I find "cold turkey" works best, provided you aren't a completely alcohol-dependent degenerate, in which case, I understand there may be some possibly life-threatening withdrawal symptoms to deal with (eg: delirium tremens complications).

Emotionally, it helps to treat alcohol with disdain and hatred for a little while. "Fuck this alcohol. Why am I drinking so much and letting it rule my life. I'm the boss of me. I'll show it !!!" sorta thing, and mind-trick yourself into having the fortitude to maintain restraint for a while.

I just had a single Greyhound to unwind a bit. Had another three beers with Rick earlier in the week after he had a rough day at the office.

4 drinks total in one week is progress I can live with, compared to a six-pack-of-beer a day prior trend.

If you can go for a week without a drink you're not addicted. If you can't then you're addicted.

.

I did a year to the day just to prove to myself I could once.

When I order ed a drink the bartender looked at me and said "You don't drink". Smiley

Yeah, I lived in bars for a good 20 years. Wink

That was right after I got kicked out and banned from AA for being a disrupting influence when I called them all a bunch of weak willed pussies.

I wasn't in agreement with the judge that ordered me there. Tongue

I'm actually quite lucky that I don't enjoy drinking alone at all and never do. But I love to get rocked with friends!

...

I love the trippy drugs. Shrooms, Acid. Very fun. Egodeath is a powerful tool.

They ere not mutually exclusive. Smiley

... I'd rather live for 100s of years than be the life of the party.

Live fast, die young and leave a good looking corpse.

Fuck that, lets hang on with withered claws and hold the grim reaper down with sheer force of will! Smiley

There are no known life extension technologies (so far).
The most promising tech currently would be senolytics, but preliminary data show that the result would be longer "healthspan", but not an extended lifespan.
Eventually, we might be able to upload ourself into some substrate, but it might not be characterized as a life extension, but some kind of "presence", perhaps.
I am not sure that this would even be desirable from an uploadee perspective.
I can see that it could be good for relatives for 'closure', perhaps.

Really?

What do you call the health care system?

There is one massive physical benefit to it. Stress is an even bigger killer than alcohol, and depending on your mental state and the situation you live in, it may be less unhealthy to drink than to be stressed. Still it's better to find some alternative outlet, and while I certainly want to live a few thousand years if possible, that's not enough of a carrot given that it is unlikely to become possible in the next hundred years.

This is a Fact, Avoid stress like the plague. I have always had a policy of letting someone screw me for a few bucks to keep them away. Lol

It's funny how you can buy a scumbag for a 20 dollar loan and never see them again. Cheesy

So Bloomberg's finest got through to a secretary who said 'no idea' and 'nunya bizniz anyways' and an article was born.
I would also be suspect of Bloomberg's relationship with the large exchanges that are recently launching their cash tied stable coins.

I agree.

Can someone make Arthur Hayes shut up ?

https://www.ccn.com/bitcoin-price-bitmex-ceo-doubles-down-on-bear-call-says-btc-could-fall-to-2000/

Quote
CCN reported earlier this week that Hayes, a former Citigroup trader, is now predicting that the bitcoin downtrend could last another 18 months, mirroring the “nuclear bear market” the crypto industry experienced in 2014 and 2015. Writing in Friday’s edition of the BitMEX Crypto Trader Digest, Hayes doubled down on that portentous outlook.

Still going pretty much sideways since the little dip a couple of days ago... currently $6305USD/$8282CAD (Bitcoinaverage).

I see many are celebrating the tenth anniversary of Satoshi's white paper. I don't consider this to be the birthday. It was the conception day.

I'll celebrate Bitcoin's tenth birthday on January 3, the tenth anniversary of the genesis block.

Does anyone know if the Monero team recently changed the cryptographic commitment scheme(ie, Pedersen commitment) previously used in Monero to something else? Or modified Pedersen commitment?

You should ask that in dev channel on irc.
6951  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: November 01, 2018, 11:43:46 PM
Hey folks... it's me, yeah I'm back after vanishing so long ago LOL

Just wanted to pop in and make a post today on the bitcoin white paper's official 10th Birthday... posting in this thread just because overall this thread has always been the place I posted the most in the last several years (hopefully mods won't delete it as off topic?)

Wanted to say also that seems to me today at ten years into this great experiment, and guessing it might take something like twenty years for crypto to really take over as the real new global currency, a little perspective we are about half way to it being all said and done, either total failure or global dominance.

I myself got into this stuff only about 5-ish years ago so I guess I'm personally "halfway thru the halfway", seems like a million years ago LOL

But... yeah... well... that's about it.  Hope y'all doin' well out there.  I'm kinda laying low "out" of day to day worry on all the cryptoshit these days but still hangin' in there for this stuff to have all been actually worthwhile, in the end.

Ciao for Now, bitches!  LOL  Grin

P.S. Wow... COOL!!!  Looks like my post triggered the top post on the 2000th page!!!  Cheesy

Great see you posting again!

Monero is my favorite project. No one understands the value of Monero. It will be understood in the future how precious privacy is.

What's so special about him? There are many projects with complete anonymity and now they are leaving even more. Then what is the beauty of this project, why do you highlight it to the fore? I saw projects better than Monero.

Bullshit. And, who is him?

Please tell me, I have been watching Monero for a long time, but it only falls about Bitcoin. Are there any events in the coming year that may affect the growth of its price?

Nope, it just works. Ya know, does what it is supposed to do which is extremely difficult to accomplish.
6954  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Acorn M.2 FPGA based GPU Accelerator on: October 30, 2018, 08:14:02 PM
fpga accelerated gpu mining seems like it may be a way out for those of us running gpus, especially older paid off gear that barely breaks even after power at the moment. only time (and shipping gear in the hands of regular miners) will tell of course. i figure its a decent bet. 50/50 maybe. well, in crypto 50/50 is pretty good odds anyway.

Best bet is to convert those GPUs into BTC and Hodl.

youre probably right. but i like tinkering with new hardware, so i will need my gpus for this fpga/gpu hybrid mining thing experiment. and im only a hobbyist miner.. right now just one rig, 8 cards. hardly worth selling off.

I hear ya, I used to buy shit just to tinker with it endlessly. Smiley

I think what he is saying is you can either continue to mine for a very slight profit indefinitely, or sell everything and buy & hodl bitcoin.

Its always a gamble but look at it this way.  If you sold everything and bought ETH right now, what are the chances of ETH being at $400 in 6 months?  No one can predict, but I personally think the chance would be good.  So then the question becomes, do you think you can mine twice the value of all of your equipment in 6 months?

It would make for an interesting comparison (and bet). Smiley

More good news in upcoming celebration of convincing of the Bitcoin.

https://twitter.com/krakenfx/status/1057097814012944384

Bittrex
Binance
TradeOgre
Bitfinex
Poloniex
Kraken

Also LocalMonero and MorphTooken reduced them. Not sure if they fit into this chart.

Hoping that HitBTC will follow. I have some XMR sitting on there that I may as well move.

Hopefully not, they are a scam exchange connected to the bytecoin crew.

Monero is a shitcoin, convert this shit to bitcoin and other promising alts before its too late.  I dumped my monero bags, this coin has no future.

I'll toss you a little bite to eat Mr. Troll.

Monero is unique among shitcoins.  Here are a couple reasons it is unique and worth holding:

-It has real utility and is currently being used as a currency, not just a speculative investment.
-It may be the ONLY crypto project that offers something that Bitcoin never can - privacy at the base layer.  In every other case bitcoin will be able to replicate just about any other project's strengths and features.  And though Bitcoin can offer privacy on Layer 2 and up, it arguably never will/should on it's base layer.

There are no alts more promising than Monero, really.

AND, Monero conforms to Bitcoins original goals. Wink

6957  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: October 30, 2018, 01:52:16 PM
Monero has certainly done a lot for the privacy sector but from an invesment standpoint, it is really only a currency.  Stakenet is an ecosystem with broad utility and excellent privacy measures.

   I recommend Stakenet ($XSN).

Then, off you go to Steaknet, i hope you like yours medium  Grin Cheesy Wink

People make fun of this dude, but I was seriously interested in how they manage anonymous staking--do they send you your share and then lose your address, like some woman losing a creep's number at the bar?

It's completely retarded, they took out the entire reason for POS to exist which is security and threw in a bunch of masternodes to centralize and monetize. Nothing but a cash grab that they keep generating coins from.

or a FEW weeks if shit goes NUTS

Certainly possible, this is Bitcoin after all, few things would truly surprise me, but I am actually hoping for a longer slump as I believe that the longer this goes the more explosive the next blow off will be.

Serious question. Where can we order high quality custom baseball caps?

You need to patent those designs. We can't have No-Coiners walking around with them! Smiley

A real hat.  Based on my avatar.  Great link but 36 minimum order is probably slightly excessive!

36 of each type?
What if we did a mass purchase of all those made?
What would be the minimum per hat amount have to be?
