This site is great!
Simple design, easily playable. And it even gives out money with an overall negative profit Cheesy

But if I may suggest a simple upgrade would concern the chat. It's great to have a chat but you have to be able to chat while playing. So at least put it up automatically in the play section (because here it's a bit hard to see) and maybe try to have a smoother design for the chat, like on the side or something. Because it's an important element in a dice game.

Hi,

thanks for the suggestion! Actually you CAN chat while playing. There is a button at the bottom of Watch / Play tabs, as well as a small button of the Chat tab. It splits the screen and chat is placed in the lower (resizable) panel. It has been suggested so many times that finally I implemented it :-)

Other than that, I wish the site had positive profit, but it's all probability after all. It's also a result of a few players with large budgets winning small sums over time (I hope they don't stop playing).  Me and Scott are the largest investors so far (by investments value) and site profit hurts us too. I hope things will settle with time and it's just a harsh start.

Thanks for all warm comments! It really fuels my enthusiasm.

Cheers,
Ethan

Withdrawing to custom addresses is now possible

I have just fixed one of the most criticized "features" of YD. So far our users could only withdraw to one single address called "master address". Our initial intention was to make sure people do not lose their coins by withdrawing to addresses they "accidentally just thrown away". I guess limiting withdrawals to a single address was not a solution and many users felt this limitation is not really a feature, but a... limitation indeed.

From now on you can put any withdrawal address in the withdrawal popup. You can also protect withdrawing by 2FA (withdrawing to master address, any non-ma address or both).

A bit better account completion process

Many users were confused by the account set up - you had to enter the 'master address', but what they were really looking for was "how to set up login & password". I made the process a bit more clear. You still need to provide the master address, but it's more clear now the next thing you could do is login and password.

Other improvements

Other fixes include: faster app startup, corrections in FAQ and minor server-side fixes.

Cheers,
Ethan

There already is 30s tolerance for 2FA, I can increase it to 60s to make sure device time skew does not ruin the setup. Other than that, I am not sure which part of the system to blame. I will be deploying new code within minutes, so please try again in a while if you haven't been able to set it up.

BoXXoB - I can see you already have 2FA set up, I am glad it worked!
705  Economy / Gambling / New chat features on: January 05, 2017, 10:15:21 AM
We keep working hard. Yesterday Chat got a few nice features: channels and private messages.

Here is a short summary:

/pm 89 - starts a private chat with user of id 89
/join ru - joins the #ru channel
/channels - lists active channels

Other than that we start working on other features, including:
- withdrawals to any address (not only the Master Address) - most votes so far
- account history that include tips (tips are not yet in the list of operations)
- minor UI improvements

Any ideas are highly welcome. Join us in our chat:

For gettng more players you will require to advertise your site and for that there are two ways on this forum one is to advertise with theyos and the other way is to start a suignature campaign so that all the members of this forum start taking interest in your site.

Thanks, indeed we are preparing for a signature campaign now. Probably paid advertizing campaigns too - to get the site some more initial boost.

Cheers,
Ethan

Dooglus, thanks for your comment! Insightful as always!

BillyBurns, I am now working on some chat-related improvements: PMs and possibly chat channels. They seemed needed at some point since there were a lot of Russian players.

Later - withdrawals to custom addresses (not only the Master Address), better account history that include tips.

If you have an idea - please share it. I am working mostly on what our users suggest and these above were the most frequently mentioned features.

Other than that, we need more players (to stabilize the variance in site profit) and investors. We'll be working on it too. Any (non-standard) ideas are highly appreciated!

Just a quick update - we have implemented a "split-chat" so that our players can chat AND so other things (like play or browse our site) at the same time. Keep the chat open - and you'll never miss another rain :-)

New features are coming soon, stay tuned!

Cheers and all best in 2017!

Hi Ethan I would like make a account but I don't want to link it to a address I can sign, anyway to bypass this? (Someone in chat said you might be able too)

No, it's not possible now. Just enter any of your BTC addresses from your wallet and set up login&password immediately after that. Addresses are not publicly visible. Just make sure the address you put is yours.

This used to happen in the beginning when the site was launched and now again the same problem , the site stucks . I thought it was my net connection but when I tried to open other sites at the same time it works .

Hi,

I have pushed new code to the server which solves at least one class of connectivity issues. Your problem might be solved. If not - we will look deeper.
Thanks for solving this early . Now I have no issues and its loading fast Smiley

Also I think it would be good to display both Bankroll with margin ( Kelly ) and without margin . What is the use of displaying Real BR? It doesn't help in anyway to calculate the max profit .

I am glad it helped!

Max profit is stated in the Play tab when you click "Show more stats". Maybe it should be more visible though and not hidden like it is now.

Anyway, I am open to suggestions and ideas!

UPDATE: the site now shows real bankroll (real on-site funds) by default, and not effective bankroll. Effective bankroll is used only to calculate max profit per bet. Detailed breakdown of the bankroll is available at https://yolodice.com/#stats/investor

Thanks for the feedback about the bankroll! I agree that showing the effective bankroll instead of the real bankroll was a poor idea and caused confusion. Thanks again for pointing this out!

what are your faucet rates, i dont think so it pays 1500 satoshi per click , so how much it pays oftenly?
and what is the time between the claims?from your experience does it worth to try it?

Hi,

the faucet pays 500 Satoshis per click for new users. Once you hit 10 BTC wagered it pays 1500, but this can change as we still try to fine-tune the faucet.

Regarding connectivity issues - first thing to blame is always connection quality. If a websocket connection is closes for some reason, this makes the app "reconnect". On the screenshot however it looks like the app cannot make the initial connection. This MIGHT be because the ISP provider blocks connections to ports 8080-8081 (sometimes does happen), or the connection is of low quality. What I also deduct from the error is that ISPs could have a transparent proxy that makes our security layer confused.

I will check the logs and see if there is any hint what's happening.

TL;DR; we will try to fix it!

Thanks for suggestions!

Indeed, I am finishing improving referral raporting, the next goal is chat. I am glad we have players from different countries, but as you noted, it's too much now.

We will be adding custom chat channels, a bit similar to irc channels. So that you could `/join ru` or in general `/join your_super_channel`. It has been planned but I did not realize it would be needed that quickly. So yeah, back to work!

Cheers!

I think we have a few serious winners now:

So yes, it is possible to win some bitcoins :-)

I think it's because I invested the tip you gave me:

I've made a massive -4.7% "profit" already...

Please note that I do not vouch for yolodice.

Oh, that's why... :-)

Other than that, yesterday evening was pretty exciting! Thank you all for great time. Not to mention an epic tip - thanks again, Negan4!

You are right! It's my fault, it's definitely SHA256 of the hex representation of the server secret. SHA512 would be an overkill. My mistake.

I have tipped your YD account 0.01 BTC. Thanks for reading through the FAQ and having a critical look at YOLOdice!

I know you might see it as a conflict of interests, but I highly encourage you to keep an eye on YD. I would be more than happy if you invested in YD some day too :-)

Thanks for the tip. Now I can get to work on repairing my chart. I was doing so well, turning a 1,500 satoshi faucet drip into 222,222 satoshis at one point, but then lost it all trying to hit a 0.1% bet:

I revealed my server seed to verify the rolls. I eventually got it to verify, but it's weird how you use the server seed in its binary form for the HMAC, but in hex form for the SHA256 hashing.

In my javascript roll verifier I had to add code like this to convert the secret as given by the site (a hex string) to a binary format:

Code:
bytes = [];
for (i = 0; i < secret.length - 1; i += 2)
    bytes.push(parseInt(secret.substr(i, 2), 16));
secret = String.fromCharCode.apply(String, bytes);

Please note that I do not vouch for yolodice.

Nice rolls :-)

Yes, the seed is being used in binary form in HMAC. I have a ruby-based verifier ready to be pushed to github (or anywhere else) that woud make checking bets easier.

Cheers and good luck!

OK, the most obvious error I found was where the FAQ says:

The server seed hash is only 64 hex characters, or 256 bits. I verified that it is an SHA256 hash of the server seed, not SHA512.

My user_id is 113.

Please note that I do not vouch for yolodice.

I don't think that's true. You would only need to recalculate the share for each investment tier, ie. 10 numbers.

Yes, you are right. Still, this involves floating-point calculations every single bet. This probably could be optimized, but from experience - floating-point rounding errors tend to accumulate. With fixed per-investment shares you only do floating-point operations when investments are opened/closed/commission is taken. Other than that we do all balance operations on integers.

There might be a way to do this better, but I decided to do it the simple way, avoiding potential issues.

So your "leverage" is exactly the same as Just-Dice's "offsite investment" feature, rather than true leverage. The "loan" amount (or "offsite amount" in JD terms) is constant and doesn't grow or shrink as people play.

Indeed, it does not grow or shrink. But it's not uncommon in the financial markets to use "investment with leverage" where the loan is constant. Take Forex for example.

[Edit: I guess that also means the "Deposited" column doesn't show how much the investors deposited, but rather shows how much they have now. And the "In the bank" statistic doesn't show how much is in the bank, or how much is available to be won because most of it is made up of coins which don't actually exist (and were 'loaned' into existence). The same goes for the "over 226BTC already invested" - most of that isn't real coins, but the result of pretend loans. Right?]

Initially I thought it was a good idea to show "leveraged bankroll" by default, but I have to agree with you. It's misleading and people keep asking about it. It's almost decided we will change the way bankroll is presented, hopefully avoiding the confusion :-)

On the other hand, JD's "off-site investment" can also be used as leverage in exactly the same way as our leverage. People could declare their off-site coins just to have a larger stake in site profit since they do not need to prove they actually have them. Am I right? Are you showing only on-site coins in bankroll? Sorry for my ignorance, I am really curious and I haven't found it in your FAQ.

Edit: OK, so you are showing only on-site bankroll. Max profit is 0.5% of the effective bankroll. I did the math.

Do you pay bug bounties at all? I didn't find a way of cheating, but I did find some factual errors in the FAQ.

Yes, definitely! Site's profit is not stellar yet, but I try my best!

Dooglus, I really enjoy this discussion! Cheers and thanks!
720  Economy / Gambling / Re: YOLOdice.com - fast dice game, play or invest, FAUCET, REFERRALS - JUST LAUNCHED on: December 23, 2016, 06:17:16 PM
Thanks for digging through it! :-) It's all correct. Here is why:

If you invest 1 BTC with leverage 2, the site effecitvely lends you a virtual bitcoin, so that 1 BTC + 1 BTC = 2 BTC in the leveraged bankroll.

Suppose site profit grows and your investment has positive profit. Any profit. Let's say you earned 0.5 BTC on this investment. It's now worth 1.5 BTC, but in the leveraged bankroll it's 1.5 BTC + 1 BTC = 2.5 BTC.

As you can see the loaned amount does NOT grow with your investment. Otherwise the site would need to recalculate share for each investment with every single non-zero bet. That's the key to understand why leverage=n investment is not n * real_value in bankroll.

One of the downsides is that effective leverage, i.e. value_in_bankrol / real_value = (real_value + loaned_value) / real_value is not constant. It decreases when the investment profits.

For sake of completness the investments are described in FAQ. The math is simple, although at some point indeed you might wonder "why?".

TL;DR: loaned amount for the investment is fixed, so effective leverage does not equal the initial leverage.
