721  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] $XQN Quotient Financial Network | PoW Scrypt, PoS Blake-256 | UPDATE NOW on: January 08, 2015, 02:27:08 PM
Honestly, while the stake rate was nice, I'm in this coin for the features listed in the OP, like asset indices and connection with algorithmic trading in the future.

Recall that something like Peercoin has a negligible rate and is doing fine. Use case is more important than becoming yet another high PoS coin. We have too many of those and they honestly aren't doing all that great market cap wise.

Novacoin still wipes the floor with them and it's stake is less than the 25%-30% per year as quoted by the current difficulty metrics. I think that needs to change Wink

+1

To those frustrated with the new stake earnings: Just remember that relative to all other XQN holders, you are staking exactly the same as before, which is a relative % of your holdings. Observe how your position in the XQN rich list will not really change, unless there is some significant trading happening (someone buying or selling a bunch).

Less coins generated by staking also means that the emission has slowed down, and a lot. This alone does not increase the value of XQN, but makes it much easier to sustain it, and provides an easier balance to demand (which is not much at this point).

What's important now, is that we build a use case that promotes and encourages trading and transacting. Once this happens, there are less coins sitting in wallets (staking), and so the staking competition eases up a bit. Soon enough, XQN will become much more than just an ever-growing balance sheet...

when will the mac wallet update be ready? i can't seem to stake with old wallet on mac, i only get orphans..

Old wallet will be trying to produce too large stakes (up to 618 XQN), so it is bound to only have orphans, has the majority of the network is clearly operating on the most up-to-date wallet and the old (larger) stake sizes are no longer allowed. You need to upgrade that ASAP (as I understand, you need a Mac build, sorry, can't help you there).
723  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] $XQN Quotient Financial Network | PoW Scrypt, PoS Blake-256 | UPDATE NOW on: January 07, 2015, 10:34:31 AM
To me it looked like it has been sweeping multiple small blocks into larger ones for whatever reason but now that you said something maybe I've got it wrong and all it is doing is not splitting blocks after they stake if they take too long to do so.  Possible I'm seeing something happening that isn't there, I need to pay closer attention I guess.

I can positively confirm that tiny blocks are frequently combining when they stake (I have several of size 200~300 that did so, resulting in about 1K~1.3K block size after the stake), but similarly, if such a merged block stakes fast enough next time, it will split (just had one, merged into 1K, and at the next stake, has split into 2x 500).

Based on how slow/fast blocks are staking, they either merge, split, or remain at their original size (plus stake reward). I have all 3 examples in stakes from my last 24 hours, and the wallet seems to be doing a pretty good job. Some more advanced controls over the various thresholds would be really nice though.  Wink

Happy Staking!

@incognitoworker:
Mine are also combining. IIRC, this is happening in order to reach a valid stake weight. In other words, the individual/tiny blocks are not carrying enough weight to stake separately. At the current stake cap, I would not be too bothered, it really looks like ~1K is about the block size necessary for frequent staking, at least for now. Yes, you will hit the cap all the time, but so does everyone else (emission is under control).

Happy Staking!

@Startide: Even if you stake with poor performance, the effective stake percentage over one year, is much higher than 750%, because of compounding (staking the blocks, then also staking the stakes, later staking the staked stakes, and so on).

What you are observing is simply a reflection of high difficulty. These days, it takes much larger blocks in order to stake relatively fast, and really small blocks (say, up to 1K for example) might not ever stake from here onwards, due to limited weight potential. That, and that a couple of blocks is not a large enough sample to draw conclusions, given the implicit variance in the staking process.

I must be on a lot of ignore lists!  Grin

The 'SSL Handshake Failed' error is caused by the Exchange APIs going up and down (these are linked to the market data feed), and the OpenSSL download posted earlier will not change anything concerning this particular error message. The next wallet update will resolve these pesky dialogs, so keep an eye out for an update from CedricQuotient.

729  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 10MHASH CCminer modded NVIDIA Maxwell kernals by SP. on: December 17, 2014, 10:44:44 PM
Time to make a neoscrypt port for NVIDIA. Can we beat the opencl code by WOLF0?

(nicehash)

NeoScrypt    3341   0.2021 GH/s   4.7595 BTC/GH/Day  738%   3.5289 BTC/GH/Day   5.2900 BTC/GH/Day   5.2900 BTC/GH/Day   View orders

Would you consider cryptonight instead? That would turn me into a more generous donator ^^
I'm guessing I'm out of luck though, if I understand correctly, tsiv's miner will be a pain to merge...

just wanted to put it out there that with about 10000XQN even less I've still hit the cap stake limit... in hindsight, this may have been due to not having the client open 24hrs/day

Very good point. I think I mentioned this aspect in some earlier post about staking, but not this last one. A wallet that is not open/staking 24/7, will have tremendous influence over the stake chances. With large enough blocks (or high enough difficulty, not yet the case), one will easily have capped rewards.

I ask this.
If the max stake is 618 per stake reward. What is the engineered number for that ?
The 14k per wallet is what you need to receive a 618 per day from interest.
I get multiple stakes a day at 100-200 does this mean that potentially everyone of those can go to 618 ?
If that is the case the number of 14000 is irrelevant, that is just what gives you 618 per day not per stake ?
Does this make sense ?
What number gives me 618 per stake is what investors want.

What investors want, is not what investors need...

- Stake rewards are based on the time that coins have spent maturing (since confirmed, and not moving around).
- The staking rate on XQN is 1618% yearly, which give or take equals 4.4328% per day.
- There is a luck component in staking, that affects how fast you stake, but not how much you stake.
- On average, big blocks stake faster, small blocks stake slower. The reward % is the same for both.

A couple of examples should help.

Case 1: You have a block size of 10000 XQN, confirmed and matured for 24 hours.
Let's say this block stakes exactly at 24 hours of maturity.
Your stake reward will be 4.4328% of 10000, thus 443.28 XQN.

Case 2: You have a block size of 20000 XQN, confirmed and matured for 24 hours.
Let's say this block stakes exactly at 24 hours of maturity.
Your stake reward will be capped at 618 XQN. You wasted some stake value, because 4.4328% of 20000 is in fact 886.56, but this amount exceeds the maximum stake reward allowed.

A smart investor will want maximum rewards.
Those are achieved by staking fast, and not wasting stake value.
Conservatively, this is achieved by a block size of 14000 XQN. A slightly larger block is also reasonable, but will risk hitting the maximum stake reward if it happens to not be favored by the luck factor.

Note that a single wallet and a single address, is perfectly sufficient as far as storing multiple blocks in whatever sizes one desires. If you need some help splitting blocks or doing input control, I'd recommend you to join IRC, #quotient @freenode, and ask for guidance there.

Hope this makes a bit more sense.

My wallet started staking but now auto-closes each time I tried to run it, any ideas what might be the problem?

Isn't there an error message or anything else, it just closes? Without some more information, there's not much to go on...
Perhaps post also which wallet version you're using, what OS, and anything else that might be relevant.

I don't think W0lf's cpuminer cares much for AMD cards  Smiley
Don't know if Kahir is still looking for help or not, I responded on IRC but it appears that he dropped shortly after asking around for help.

Well, its official.. 2400 blocks are gonna max out... Time to move to 2k.. Smiley
I did it 9 days ago. Since I already have 36 block maxed out (and more by the day), I wil start moving my new blocks to 1800.

The lower the blocks, the more numerous the block, the faster the diff rise - without even accounting for more HYP being available for more blocks. Expect exponential rise.

I also moved the chart to open access, so you will not have to request access anymore, sorry about that.

One of these days, you guys will be finding out that making the blocks too tiny, will eventually cause them to not stake for over 30 days, at which point they stop gaining weight. With everyone moving to smaller blocks, and with difficulty continuing its rise, it will not be too long before 2K blocks become "to small to stake".

We'll all probably get away with it (staking small'ish blocks) for another month or so, but I'm guesstimating that soon enough, we'll stop worrying about hitting the cap, and start worrying about having enough size/weight to stake before reaching 30 days maturity.
Personally, my block sizes are anything between 2K ~ 4K at the moment, but by the end of the month I'll be aiming at 3K+ blocks.

Interesting times ahead!  Wink

best block size?

Starting point (fresh from an exchange purchase), 14K is a good & round number, assuming you have the wallet staking 24/7. From there onwards, the wallet will automatically split them roughly once a day. At some point they stop splitting given a certain time elapsed for each stake round.

Are there any plans for multi-algo mining on XQN? Very interested  Tongue

What Farndogg said, plus generally, a multipool will only give you the convenience of mining the unmineable, but you are probably better off just pointing your hash at 'nicehash' or a similar service, and buy XQN yourself with the BTC earned. Cheers!
739  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] $XQN Quotient Financial Network | PoW Scrypt, PoS Blake-256 | High PoS on: December 13, 2014, 01:32:58 AM
So the max number coins per stake is 618, that means it takes 13941.28553770087 XQN to get about 618 XQN per day per coin stake chunk. I hope I calculated that right...lol

Your math is right. And you have 8 hours per day to stake before reaching the cap, since coins are eligible to stake at 16 hours mature time.
If you stake early (shortly after the 16 hours), you will not be anywhere near the max reward. If for any chance you stake past the 24 hour mark (closed wallet, downtime), then you will get your stake capped at 618 with some loss.

Happy Staking!
