Bter and Bittrex disabled deposits.
Mintpal opened, but doesn't work.
Only Poloniex and Hitbtc accept coins.

Atrides: Could you perhaps add exchange monitoring to forkguard?  Smiley
Cheers!

New purse of transgenic XMR to poloniex.com a day not to account, which is why ah Huh Huh

Poloniex suspended XMR deposit/withdraw as a precautionary measure.
You just need to wait a bit longer, or submit a support ticket.

Correct on checkpointing as regular (but temporary mitigation). I would kindly request that the dev team release binaries as well, to ensure that the checkpoints are further distributed. Presumably, exchanges & pools will take the checkpoints from source at regular intervals, but compiling is not accessible to the average user.

From what I understand, the dev team is working on additional preventive measures, aiming for a more permanent solution to this type of attack. This experience should also highlight the importance of a healthy (read: strong/fast) Monero mining network. An open source AMD miner is perhaps one important measure in this regard.

Reminder: There's still an open bounty to this effect, and Wolf0 has generously posted some partial code towards this goal, so someone taking up the task, will not need to start from scratch.

845  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] cudaMiner & ccMiner CUDA based mining applications [Windows/Linux/MacOSX] on: September 22, 2014, 05:51:43 PM
Doing so will mix current from both PSUs @ the GPU. That's pretty risky in my book. I suppose you can get away with it anyway, as long as you're using a powered riser, so that both external power + PCIe power are feeding in from the same (external) PSU.

You also need to look specifically at the 12V line on that extra PSU. A 400W PSU can very well be maxed out at 250W in the 12V line (which is what the GPUs really use), and with a shitty efficiency rating, you might just stress it that little bit too much.

Good luck!

I believe others have suggested this already, in any case, adding my vote:
If not moving to a dedicated forum right away, could we at least move to a moderated thread now and lock this one for good?
The community in general & the dev team, have shown to be more than receptive to constructive criticism and debate in numerous occasions throughout this thread, but the noise from trolls & fuds'ters is getting to be too much really.

I'm going for EVGA's myself, but actually, I'm waiting for their ACX 2.0 version for the 970 (not available yet). It looks like they took the easy way out in reusing a cooler design for the 970's currently available... tsk tsk...

In the article source:
Quote
Could EVGA recall the cooler? Or perhaps they’ll be releasing an updated model in the near future? We’ll have to wait and see.

No need to wait much. Improved cooler versions (the stated ACX 2.0) were announced just as they released the 9xx cards...  Roll Eyes

Looks like the 750ti still isn't a bad option to be honest.  The problem I've got, I've gotten my 270x toxic's so efficient now, (undervolting and underclocking) it's 500 watts a rig @ 16.5 Mh/s x11 with the 270x toxics and 400 watts a rig using 750ti GA Blacks.

The difference is about 20-25%, hardly worth selling the toxics and buying the 750ti's.

I really hope the 970 is as efficient as the 750ti power to hash, then I can start adding some density to the rigs again.

Absolutely, the 750 TI's are still a great option. The key advantage so far with the 970/980's, is as you said, density.
Edit: And gaming, obviously!

So gaming wise, what sort of performance do you thin dual 970's with have over a 980? i know that 980 is supposedly ~15% faster then a 780ti, making it around 25% faster then my 780. But what jump do we think for 2 970's for the extra £50 ($70)?

i am still waiting on 970 reviews from my trusted reviewers. Just to note, i wont be paying for the 970's or the 980, i am swapping my 780 for them Wink

Going strictly by the spec sheets, I'd say that 2x 970 will probably sit in the region of 30% more gaming performance than 1x 980. For mining, the gap should be greater, further favoring the 970's, but note that I'm ignoring the hash/power ratio. This is all just guesswork though, we really need proper reviews & testing to know the right figures.

@Ignition75:

The problem with that reasoning, is that there will be plenty of 780 & 780 TI on sale soon enough, and lot's of people will find that the 980 is overpriced for it's segment. Adding to this, that TI versions will come along in the next few months, and the 980's resale price will suffer more dramatically than the 970's (even if it's the same % drop, it's just more 'cash' in the case of the 980).

I would be much happier with a 980 than 2x 970's, personally. The problem is that the price gap between these two is really hard to justify given their relative performance spots. For me, it's 2x 970's for sure (note: my motivation is both mining & gaming).

If anyone wants a couple more 750 TI's for their farm, please PM. I'm going to part ways with either 2x or 4x 750 TI's, and will take a reasonable offer from a fellow cuda miner. They're posted for sale online as well, so might be gone soon also. These are 2x EVGA Superclocked, and 2x EVGA FTW. (Europe)

851  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [Pre-ANN][BRO] BreakoutCoin | Bergstake | BottlessNight | Gaming Platform + on: September 21, 2014, 10:36:45 PM
[...]
Considering that Bergstake is a significant innovation, sitting/waiting on it for two years of PoW is largely unattractive (in my mind).
Would you consider activating Bergstake sooner, perhaps having a stage of concurrent PoW and PoS?

Once POW ends and Bergstake starts,  it will be impossible to obtain more Bergstake. So whatever the distribution looks like at that point, will continue forever. The two years of mining  coupled with the ICO, should have the effect of distributing the Bergstake as widely as possible.

Think of the bergstake as an out-of-the money call option, or lottery ticket, that you get for free each time you solve POW. ICO investors will also get Bergstake.

In the limit as as POW time gets closer to 0 , the coin basically becomes a 100% pre-mine, which we do not want.

Interesting idea regarding concurrent PoW / PoS , would have to flush this out.

Bumping this quote just to ask if there's been further consideration to an earlier start to Bergstake, either by setting a shorter PoW period, or (preferably) by running concurrent PoW & PoS. This particular aspect might tip my decision of participating on the ICO or not.

Why I find this to be so important:
There's already a reasonable variety of altcoins based on cryptonote. Some of them offer certain unique features (within the 'cryptonote family'). Setting factors of utility and promotion aside, the significant technical innovation presented by BRO, is Bergstake. It is not reasonable to wait for a 2 year PoW period, before one can observe this feature at work.
Hell, in 2 years time, I'd expect that other developments, technical adjustments and rethinking would be appropriate, both driven by internal factors to BRO, and external ones pushed by the widespread alt community. In a way, I suppose that I'm finding that by the current schedule, Bergstake might be obsolete before it even get's a chance. I really like the concept, just not the timeframe.

So I've got 2700 mh on my 750ti with 344.11 drivers. Is this optimal for the moment?

That's almost double what I get when mining <unknown-algo> with the previous drivers. That's not optimal, that's spectacular!
Now seriously, what are you mining again?  Grin

@fluffy, awesome intro on the openalias project.

Can you please check if I've configured an XMR alias correctly at the following DNS location:
myagui.monujo.com

It's not a secured domain or anything at this time, I just wanted to check if I got the implementation basics right.
Thanks!

Interesting project gents, have me wondering about the following:

Considering that Bergstake is a significant innovation, sitting/waiting on it for two years of PoW is largely unattractive (in my mind).
Would you consider activating Bergstake sooner, perhaps having a stage of concurrent PoW and PoS?

Also, will the ICO allow participation for someone that does not have a local BTC wallet? I only ever use web wallets for BTC, and the automagic distribution of BRO to ICO buyers sounds to me as depending on access to one's BTC keys. Please elaborate.

Best of luck!

Rounding things up, it looks like we can/will fund development by:
 - mining at a pool with a % going to development fund
 - donate on personal initiative (thus joining the hall of fame)
 - by setting up a donation % on top of transaction fees, soon(tm)

Initiatives like MEW might/will come up with their own funding strategies as well. As stated upthread, nothing precludes a crowd funding initiative that might take place.

I think this already gives participants from all quadrants, the opportunity to take their part in assuring that development doesn't stagnate and is properly rewarded. Not all these bits are fully in motion yet, so it looks like we don't have a realistic funding quantification at this time.

There's one participant in particular that benefits largely from the Monero community, and should be in a position to 'give a little back', and that is Poloniex, which has an apparent dramatic increase in popularity and trading activity, in no small part thanks to Monero. Just my 2 cents, but I think that it would be great if they would donate a small % of their Monero trading fees to the development fund.

@ fluffy: I don't know if this has been considered yet, but perhaps it is worthwhile having a couple of different development fund accounts, in order to separate donation sources? I'm thinking that it would be useful, if long term, one could perform some statistical analysis on donations per source (% of donations made from pool fees, % of donations from individuals, % of auto-donations from the client software, etc).

Cheers,
~ Myagui

I guess something's not right. Blocks are being generated much too fast.

Doesn't look like there is any abnormal block generation speed for the last 24 hours. A few blocks in short succession are not particularly odd, and more so when we consider that 1GH is concentrating most of the nethash. Variance is most pronounced in the current scenario.
