This is misleading, imo. If there's a contentious hardfork, the losing party can modify the codebase to allow their chain to continue. They're going to hardfork anyway. There's no magic protection against people making a one off or permanent change to the rules of the system to allow their form to live. That's my point. There's nothing that can stop a determined minority from splitting away from the main chain. But with Decred, it might be the true community majority made up of small HODLERS who delegate their votes to pools. With Decred it could be the devs and placeholder capital forcing through any change they want, and the more Decred poor 99.999% forking off as well. the preposterous PREMINE is held tightly by a handful of dev-insiders and bittrex exchange cartel...there is no community :-D pfft

About the vote, you must also have more than 60% of your total votes for your proposal to be validated.
You may have the most votes "yes", but if many of the other people clicked "no" on your proposal, you will need more votes to reach 60% of the total (yes+no).

A question about blockchain governance. My friend debates that Decred suffers from "tyranny by the majority". When the majority decides to approve a design-decision, it marginalizes the minority that doesn't want it.
Wouldn't that put Decred at risk of what blockchain governance was supposed to prevent, a hard fork by the minority?
At Decred, who has most skin in the game has the most voting power and not necessarily the majority. And this is very good in a company or entity, as we know that most people are dumb while those who have the most to lose will think hard about decisions. That's part of my point. If Decred was like Bitcoin, it would then be possible for a scenario which the richest merchants, miners/NYA, which was the minority, "won", and got their 2X fork. In any case, Decred's hybrid mining system, where POS confirms the POW blocks, was designed to make a hardfork like ETH and bitcoin impossible without community consensus. If POW miners attempt a hardfork without consensus, ticket owners will decline and it will not happen and vice versa. If you don't need to generate new money, then obviously your goal is to safeguard what you already have by exiting the speculative casino to the base of Exter's Pyramid - physical metals. Not that I use them (I actually really don't (like that would be something anyone would believe (oh God, I am getting lost inside a parenthetical alternative universe)))... But I keep an eye on dark net markets mostly out of curiosity. Wall Street Market was shut down this summer, but XMR was a preferred crypto there and most vendors took it. Some even had special discounts for XMR users. I saw someone who ran a cannabis gummy XMR sale regularly. Currently the biggest DNMs are probably: Empire, Tochka, Berlusconi, Nightmare, and Cryptonia. All of those take XMR. I am a libertarian. But to be honest I do not think this use of XMR is what makes it important. I just think it is a natural side effect of it being one of the truly useful digital currencies. I am also one of the probably few old school crypto people who does NOT see Ross Ulbricht as a hero. I see him as a criminal (but his sentence is ridiculous). Almost all other projects are garbage at worst and well-meaning testnets at best. I am looking forward to XMR continuing to shed it's darknet reputation and being seen for the privacy preserving tour de force that it is. That said, there is no doubt it is THE trusted privacy currency on the dark web. Along with the confirmation email was a link to confirm it. That link shows a page with an example of the wallet seed (33 words) created to receive the airdrop. The real seed was created via the command line in an app that should be deleted later. Gembitz kept the example seed thinking it was the real one and deleted the real one from his wallet when close the terminal on his pc. If he was stolen by someone, then he was for his own stupidity. this is the webpage with the example seed linked by the acceptance email.  now it seems to matter to anyone? at least you are halfway honest yeah i recieve a "confirmation email" when i asked for help i was ridiculed and belittled by your "devs" then was kicked off the jumbucks slack because of this lost alot of coins...you people are crooked and have no real community just walled garden geek insiders trading club!! :\meh |

Bitcoin {BTC} is too big to fail.Network is too large for security to be an issue now and the value being protected is too high so the incentive to make it work now is there.Network effect is in motion.There are secondary off chain options now for coffee snobs and human muppets who don't care about their tx's being kept onchain so long as the value they send arrived at its end destination.They couldn't care less if their tx passed through fukerburg's mouth and came out his ass at the other end because people are programmed to want convenience and avoid as much inconvenience as possible.That is why number will always go up and altcoins will flounder.Nobody cares about anything only getting the lambos while their egos are massages.They will attack like a pack of jackals any altcoin which threatens the beloved bitcoin which is making them rich and support any mouthpiece who like a cult who helps them secure riches.
Ripple and a few others can send tx's for the rest of them too depending on what way they want their funds sent and the most popular through free choice will survive.
Unlesss IXC is suddenly saturated with tx's being sent to vendors accepting IXC as payment or large corporations or institutions are insisting on making transfers on it then what use is it really?
90+% of all these altcoins will fail mainly because they are worth nothing and there is no muppet exchange trading them with enough liquidity/volume to be attractive to the human race.
