July 03rd, 2016 Highlights

Team Members Present: Four (Cryptosolar, MicroGuy, GoldClub, and Sokolov323)
Length of meeting: 1 hour

~~

Please find a brief recap of today's proceedings below:

Development of Android application
Discussion about current progress of app development and the need for adding a Naira (NGN) exchange rate option. The first phase of the Gold Club adoption will be providing a bonus of 200GLD to registered club members who download the app. It is essential that these users have access to the exchange rate for their local currency.

Suspension of Open Workforce project
The Open Workforce has reached its planned end-life and will be shuttered. Active workers will be transitioned over to our global tip-based system. It was a great learning experience operating this project. The team would like to thank all of those involved for their contributions.

Goldcoin Plus+ Wallet Project
This week saw the launch of the new online wallet project that will feature an online wallet along with a companion mobile application. Goldcoin Plus+ will work like a basic version of the Blockchain.info wallet. We anticipate development work on this project to begin sometime within the next 2 weeks. Project thread: https://www.gldtalk.org/index.php?topic=3628.0

~~

I'd like to thank the team members who were able to attend today's meeting as we guide Goldcoin into the future.
762  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: GoldCoin™ (GLD) Thread - The Gold Standard of Digital Currency [OFFICIAL THREAD] on: July 03, 2016, 02:40:43 PM
This is a reminder that the Sunday team meeting will begin in 2 hours from now at 1:00pm on Discord: https://www.facebook.com/groups/goldcointalk/

I send some coins in a transaction that remains unconfirmed.
How can I recover the coins? There does not appear to be
-rescan or -salvagewallet commands available.

Any help appreciated. Thank you.

Please check that your client's block height is the same block height as the explorer: http://gld.cryptocoinexplorer.com/

The client does support -rescan. Have you tried closing and reopening your client? Do you have a transaction ID?

GoldCoin Plus+ Community Project

It has been suggested to me that the community develop an online wallet that would have a companion App for mobile.  Smiley

I will use the name "GoldCoin Plus+" to eliminate any confusion with our core reference applications. The domain GoldCoinPlus.com has been registered for future use.

This development project could be based on the blockchain.info open source. However, the website back-end will need to be custom coded since blockchain.info does not publish it's website source. The GoldCoin Plus project would be a community project apart from core and its current reference applications.

the goldcoin nigeria project @ work , here are the details : https://www.gldtalk.org/index.php?topic=3624

Very exciting times ahead for Goldcoin. I can think of no better place to kick-off Goldcoin's global adoption.

I'd like to thank our friends in West Africa for this opportunity and for believing in the Goldcoin brand. Smiley

Did the Nigerians crash the server? Grin

Welcome to the community and thank you for that much needed smile.

It's great to see this thread become so active again! -- Smiley --  The last time this happened I think Goldcoin reached the top 15 on Coinmarketcap!  Shocked Cheesy Cool

... this new thread life is also giving me a chance to "shake the rust" off my moderating skills.

Me trying to mine with 150mh/s isn't "responsible"? I can't mine with it because if someone with a Titan mines for a few seconds there is nothing but orphans for days. If someone gets interested and spends a tiny amount on nicehash and puts 2gh/s onto the network, mining essentially stops.

Frankly I'm baffled that you don't seem to want miners. Without us, you don't have a network or a coin. Transactions cease. If you only want a handful of low power miners, go PoS, or have your daemon block hashrates above X and announce it. To say you want loyal miners and at the same time pat yourself on the back for making it impossible to be a loyal miner doesn't make sense.

You say "Seems to be working so far..." but you only have a tiny hahsrate and the miners are getting nothing but orphans. For me it "isn't working well so far..." unless your goal is low participation, frustration, wasted mining, and slow transactions.

Thank you for these suggestions. I will pass this note along to our development team for review and analysis.

As always, we appreciate community feedback.  Smiley

gold coin never disappoints me

I guess that means you don't actually mine GLD. It has been nothing but orphans for hours on all pools.
I don't have many problems mining GLD perhaps it is because i mine at low power

Yes. We have worked hard for the past 3 years to reward loyal community miners and to thwart auto-switching multi-pools.

Seems to be working well so far ....
769  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: GoldCoin™ (GLD) Thread - The Gold Standard of Digital Currency [OFFICIAL THREAD] on: June 27, 2016, 02:26:45 AM
I wouldn't call that a side effect, it is a game ending blow to the coin. You can't possibly expect people to mine a coin that starts spewing orphans when someone gets interested in mining it. Jesus, just look at the numbers: All-time orphan rate for sminers pool is 87.8%!!! In the last 24 hours the pool has had 19 out of 20 blocks orphan. Same thing for the day(s) before. In the last 7 days 36 of 38 were orphan. Since the pool opened it has had a grand total of 5 valid blocks!

http://sminers.com/index.php?page=statistics&action=blocks

Whoever is coding your coin needs to find a better solution. As it is when a multipool or rental user throws in a hashrate spike, the coin is unmineable for hours/days. Maybe you could have the Vardiff go to an insane diff level upon connect, gradually throttling down to avert the network shock. When you have a total net hashrate of a couple hundred mh/s, the 51% defense is rather pointless since just about anyone with an ASIC can grab 51%......kicking in the defense which stops the coin dead.

Goldcoin is engineered to be multi-pool resistant. This is by design and intended to encourage responsible mining behavior.

It seems that this coin is exposed to attack 51%

No. When a large amount of hashrate is applied at once to the blockchain, Goldcoin's 51% defense system is activated. The side effect is an increase in orphans.

772  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How can people be buying eth right now? on: June 20, 2016, 05:27:42 PM
It doesn't make any sense.  Is it being manipulated by top bagholders who are using their money to keep buying the sell offs to give it the smoke and mirror effect of looking like Eth isn't bleeding out?

There was a panic selloff followed by an over-correction. The next phase will be a slow and painful decline.

773  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: POLL - What coins are the hardest to fork ? Crypto is not what I thought it was. on: June 20, 2016, 03:51:32 PM
Forking a coin is not necessarily a bad thing, it's really all about the intention of the fork. Are we rewriting the past, or engineering the future? I think rewriting history is a big mistake, while forking to make blockchain improvements is generally a good thing.

In the case of Ethereum, Vitalik Buterin is proposing a rewrite of history. A rewrite that will enrich him personally and the other investors of theDAO. See the conflict? This undermines the currency's entire ethos as a fake, a fraud, and a forgery.

"Ethereum is a decentralized platform that runs smart contracts: applications that run exactly as programmed without any possibility of downtime, censorship, fraud or third party interference."

I think by proposing this crazy soft fork/hard fork combo and panic calling the exchanges to halt ETH trading (over a smart contract problem) he's damaged his credibility, possibly beyond repair.

~~

For the poll, I answered "Bitcoin". Because bitcoin needs a fork and can't manage to get one.  Tongue Cool
774  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Exactly 1 day before the Bitcoin Halvening I am dumping all BTC into ETH on: June 20, 2016, 12:03:52 AM

775  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Should Ethereum and DAO be bought now? on: June 19, 2016, 04:45:26 PM
I am thinking that these are one of the lower prices we are seeing as a result of rush dump and there should be a price correction soon - specially for DAO which will most likely be hard forked and so we would get a lot of Ethereum.

Any other opinions?

This is certainly not the best time to be buying DAO.  Cheesy  I'm pretty sure the DAO is toast.

As far as Ethereum is concerned, I would stay on the sidelines until the developers issue better guidance on how they intend to handle this mess.

776  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What will happen after mining ends? on: June 19, 2016, 04:35:21 PM
Guys, a question arose in my mind so I am here with it.
Just think, when 21 MN bitcoins get mined completely and miners won't get any more rewards except fee, will they still do the mining?
If they won't, mining will stop. How will blockchain move the transactions ahead?
How will the network run? Will we see a dump when it ends or a new rise in the value?
My purpose to ask this is to know the possibilities bitcoin will face in the future after this happens, and I think this will not take much longer, not more than 1 and half year.

Currently, it is thought that transaction fees will be sufficient to incentivize miners once mining stops 124 years from now.

However, I suspect we'll see dozens of hard forks between now and then as the currency evolves and adapts to its environment. Satoshi never intended for the development of bitcoin to remain static.

777  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL ATTACK ON ETH JUST OCCURED!!! on: June 19, 2016, 04:03:35 PM
The ONLY way that ETH can survive this clusterfuck is if Vitalik Buterin stops acting like a central banker and starts letting things fall. Dao fucked up? Let it fall and deal with the losses, stop trying to change things now.

I think this would be the best strategy for ETH moving forward.  Tongue Cheesy Cool

778  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If Bitcoin is First currency, so what is the name of Second currency??? on: June 19, 2016, 03:34:18 PM
But how many was born and died? How a crypto can die?

I would say that if mining comes to a complete halt, that could be compared to a heart flat-line - or the equivalent of crypto death. This occurs primarily in currencies that were created solely for the purposes of P&D.

Coins need a reason to exist; this brings about community support and growth. I think the correct flight path is one which preserves protocol integrity, respects consensus, and comes with built-in consumer appeal.

779  Other / Off-topic / Re: What's your least favorite thing about Bitcoin? on: June 19, 2016, 02:52:25 AM
Missing the hype. In 2013 there were 2 big rallies but since I'm in the Bitcoin scene there weren't any rally yet. I'm patiently waiting that hype. If it won't come next year I'd be very disappointed.
I think that the hype is slowly coming back. With the large price rise, a lot of people will want to invest and the hype will come back. I just don't like how long the transactions take. Everything else about Bitcoin is awesome.

It's coming guys. A tsunami of buying from around the 'globe'. Strap on your seatbelts and keep hands and legs inside the ride at all times.  Smiley

780  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I can't see it ever really catching on on: June 18, 2016, 10:29:17 PM
Grin
What do you think/say when people tell you that?

Email almost put the US postal service out of business. Eventually, cryptocurrency will lead to the closure of many banks. But it generally takes 2 to 3 generations for a superior technology to gain traction with the consumer.

People that don't think it will 'catch on' probably don't understand the genius of the protocol. It's okay. I would just wish them well - or explain it to them - if they are open minded and genuinely interested.
