well my opinion on Braiins is this - slush promotes it, if slush users are starting to use it why is slush luck so bad? their firmware is so great and better should they not be doing better?
i would like to see if any Braiins users have actually found a block. most pools wont tell you which of their users found the block though - even though they could do so very easily. Also there are pools that will ban users for using non-official firmware, also not worth the risk in my opinion.
as for the stock firmware - it works, there is no stealing of hash rate or dev fee with manufacturer fw - yes they do block ssh and yea that pisses me off too - i used to use awesome miner to do a lot more with my miners - now I have to be on site.
if ssh is your main reason, then i understand.

ok yea that should not be connected to anything - but getting knocked around in shipping may have caused it to make contact and short out. i would recommend putting original fw - braiins os is not worth using in my opinion.

that area in the first two pics - is that the corner furthest away from where the 6pin connectors are? looks like some sort of grounding connection. but I do not recall anything connecting to the hashboards outside of the psu and the wires to the controller.

I hear ya - my insurance costs me just shy of 5k per year (if i dont use it) then I have a 10k deductible - so I have to spend 15k each year before my insurance even pays a penny.

only those that work pay for it. We have a huge population that live off of welfare here that do not work even though nothing is wrong with them. Many prefer not to work at all. They can make a living off welfare - better than if they worked for some of them.

they only roi with free power. or hit a block.
mine are actually profitable with .05 cent electric, with free they would be better lol the diff has been dropping lately so that is good

I've had 2 original apollos running for a while now and more recently snatched 2 new one's units (which I was too lazy to set up until now). Anyway, I connected one of the new units yesterday without a hitch, and the same with the 2nd new unit today. But after shutting them all down and rebooting 3 started hashing immediately, while the most recent unit refuses to start. I tried rebooting it, taking the card out of it, even switching around the cables, but the newest unit just won't start for me. I can get to the dashboard, but nothing works and the light stays a solid green with no flashes, while the other units are flashing/hashing away. I didn't think I needed to reflash the card because it was working for a short time, but at this point its the only thing I can think of that's left to do. FYI I am not a hardcore miner I just wanted to get a taste for it with your easy to use Apollos. So I can definitely be missing something that is obvious. Any tips would be much appreciated ~ try reflashing the card - you could test this easier by taking the card out of the other new one and put it in the one that isnt working - if that works, then I would say you need to reflash the original card. as for having 4 of these miners, kudos! If they were a bit cheaper or there was an actual ROI to them, I would have a shit ton of em lol but I have one of these and one of the GekkoScience Terminus R606 ones on my desk - makes for good convo to share with people when they come over.

You guys see the 25% tariff warnings? I've bought before but this is the first time I'm seeing them
yes, the miners need to be under 800 if I recall to miss the tariff - I thought it was 1000 but someone told me 800

yea I saw the new PayPal option. That would require me to convert my btc to USD and wait for the bank to process a transfer to PayPal - a delay I wouldn't like to deal with. at least not right now. As I do not have PayPal Credit nor do I want to open another LOC under my company name at this time.

I have a real bone to pick with Bitmain - they are making me "overpay" for my miner. Their "price" of BTC is considerably less than my "price"
It was supposed to be half up front and half by November 30th. I paid .07 initially to secure the order ( what was in my online wallet at the moment ) while waiting for the transfer from my hardware wallet.
A few days later when I was not busy I logged in to see that while my wallet says I sent .07 BTC valued at that time as 582.12 USD, that Bitmain said I gave them .07 BTC but valued it at 579.73 - apparently the btc value dropped from when I submitted to when they received. As it was only 3 dollars and change I decided to go ahead and just pay it, especially as BTC had risen to over 10k at that time - so I sent what they said I owed, 496.17. Little did I know they go by the value of BTC at the time of the order (which was 8281.86) - so they said I still owe 71.82 even though the BTC I sent on the second payment was when BTC was over 10k. So now, I will have to send another payment or basically they will cancel the order and will not issue a refund.
In total - based on BTC value at the time I made the payments, I will have paid 582.12 for first payment, 493.17 for second payment and 79.46 for the 3rd payment - totaling 1154.75 for an order that was 1075.29 - an over payment of 79.46
If they are going to offer segmented payments, they should allow for payments to be made at the BTC value AT the time of payment not what it was at another point in time.
I will never do another order with segmented payments. I am sure that if the initial payment was when BTC was 10k and BTC dropped down to 3k that they would not let me pay as if it was still at 10k....
anyways, lesson learned.
edit.... apparently BTC value must have dropped again. They are now stating I owe .00050113 more now....

Probably an 8A brick? Then it's possible trying to run high speed and high voltage could be causing problems. 8A should be sufficient to see upwards of 600MHz around V4 even with heat problems. I had one on the tester last week with only one heatsink that pulled 7A at 550MHz. Usually it'd be under 6A.
Assuming everything's working right, I'd expect around 700MHz on V6 to be possible with that brick. Maybe you lost the chip lottery and your unit isn't terribly overclockable.
that's fine - I am not complaining - just providing my feedback on what I have. I just reboot it periodically if it drops too low.

Okay that's great. But what's your power supply?
nvm i am not fully awake yet - the usb is not for the power - I am using the power brick that came with the miner.

Heat has nothing to do with the speed re-targeting, unless it's getting so hot that your power supply can't keep up. All pods are tested for 550MHz at V4, and if one's having a bit of trouble it'll be re-tested at V5. The balance and quality of the chips is a crap shoot; some can only hit the speed at V5, and some can do it at V1.
587.5MHz on V5 is about right. Higher speeds require higher voltages.
Then there's the ASICBoost thing, where it can't break 600MHz without AB enabled because of USB traffic limitations.
I run it on V5 because if it is set on V6 or V7 after about half a day its down to 300 - 500 on freq it is really my guess that it is the USB power. I might have to take my Apollo offline for a day or two and use its PCI power supply to see if really is the USB

thanks I saved this and will set it to do so tomorrow when i have time to sit with it and run it thru the ranges. as for volt setting 5, i started it at 750, it eventually ends (after 2 days or so) around 550.
right now its been up since 8:50 pm on 10/27 - so a little over 24 hours - and it started at volt setting 5 and 750 - it is now at 587.5 its not hot at all either - the room's ambient temp is around 70 degrees F.

I wish I had the space to run that much. I cant even get my permits approved. I own the land but cant get the power approved - without that, the bank wont give me financing to start building and I dont have the cash to do it outright. So, here is hoping BTC reaches 50k lol.

nice. My T15 is sold on eBay - just gotta see if they actually pay - the auction is up to 900, it may still go higher or it may end there. Either way, with that $ and with the coupon I will order another T17 - auction ends in a week, so I hope T17's are still available then.
|
|
|
I cannot go at any freq above setting 5 for voltage without it overheating and lowering freq down below 400mv
someone posted a script I could use for creating a log - but I cannot find it. anyone able to post that again?

Did your $150 coupons expire when BTC price exceeded $10k over the weekend? I still haven't received a coupon but it didn't have the $10k expiration either.
my coupon for $150 is still available to be used - hoping to use it in another week and buy another T17

Phil - they also have the 1026 w/ 35 TH for under 800 @ 708 ***EDIT*** I see you listed the 35 TH on your post at the end. https://canaan.io/avalonminer-1026-35t-october-batch/I do not see anything about MOQ - but I assume that is after you contact them as you cannot purchase it via the link. I like the 708 price tag for 35 TH -- the efficiency is not bad at 67 J/TH I know Bitmain has ones at 39 J/TH - but that is at a huge price increase with the tariff as well to be added on top.
|
|
|
how are you offering a 2 year warranty? When Bitmain only gives 6 month warranty on the miners.
