781  Economy / Speculation / Re: What would a fast exponential run-up look like? on: April 03, 2013, 09:31:48 AM
If the next 3 months, mirrored the previous 3 months' growth, something like this:

MASSIVE swing trading opps here!

Not that that's my thing of course Smiley
783  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: April 03, 2013, 09:07:55 AM
Even the log scale is starting to curve upwards now!

But that's the major trend: 9-fold growth in Q1 and what may be an outlying spike in the first few days of Q2.

We're on upward trend that's lasted 84 days, if that were to continue the same duration, we'd hit $1,000 in Q3.

Would be interesting to overlay historical bubbles over this.

No, I'm not saying this is a bubble of course. I agree that this an upwards correction.

Offer goods or services for bitcoin, tell your employer that you wouldn't mind accepting part of your salary in bitcoin.

I'm working on this one right now Smiley

I work for myself so am in a great position to try the second suggestion. I know I'd send my accountant's brain into meltdown by suggesting I pay myself in Bitcoin.

It's going to have to be considered though!

Wordpress.org + WooCommerce plugin + Bitcoin Payments for WooCommerce = your own free online store to sell digital and physical products and use bitcoin along with any other currency and any other payment processor.

This is great, thanks for the heads up. I've only just installed Wordpress on one of my sites for the first time and am looking to do away with the current Photoshelter/ Paypal set-up which takes a big chunk of each sale I make.

If buying bitcoins didn't make their spot price increase, would you guys still be telling everyone about bitcoin?

Yes but the reasons would be in a different order.
787  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: April 02, 2013, 01:33:32 PM
wonder, what would happened when everybody buys enough coins? welcome to single digits?

huh?

I'm guessing he meant integers?
788  Economy / Speculation / Re: The MtGox exchange rate will not exceed $100/BTC in 2013 on: April 02, 2013, 01:11:32 PM
Sorry folks, I'm pretty sure the top is finally in, and we're probably heading into long-slow-slide round 2.  I hope everyone had fun.  If the MtGox* exchange rate does exceed $100/BTC in 2013, then I'll give 1BTC each to the first two people to post in this thread who have a post count between 20 and 300.

*I'll count CoinLab too, if that ever becomes a thing

Edit:  Congratulations to Kalinka and Crazy!  Most likely you will not get anything.

How's this going for you under your little bridge?
789  Economy / Speculation / Re: Sold all my BTC@ $94 each on: April 02, 2013, 01:10:30 PM
Did I make a mistake? How much is bitcoin expected to go up in a week? Month? I do need the money to pay bills ...

If you need to pay the bills, yeah sell it all. In fact you never should have bought.

Don't gamble what you can't afford to lose: risk/reward ratio!
790  Economy / Speculation / Re: 115 today? on: April 02, 2013, 01:08:49 PM
To be honest, I've stopped watching now $100 has been breached and held.

It was nice to see the moment 'live'. But that line wiggle a hell of a lot. Same general direction though.

So $115 today, tomorrow, next week after a small dip. Whenever, it's all good Smiley

This line is suggesting $1000 by Q3... Wink
791  Economy / Speculation / Re: Did you gain more dollar(your currency) value last month in Bitcoins or work? on: April 02, 2013, 01:06:48 PM
Sell? 2 years maybe, some.

In a year if things go VERY well I might liquidate enough for a holiday. So 1 BTC maybe Wink
792  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: April 02, 2013, 01:02:31 PM
$108, anyone know how to get the decimal places on BtcCharts? I seem to remember seeing before them but now they've disapeared?

I think we can dispense with decimal points from here on in Wink
793  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: 3 things you can do to help the Bitcoin cause on: April 02, 2013, 10:28:58 AM
Create new services that accepts bitcoin or/and include even donate bitcoin button on your blog or whatever page you have so people get used to it.

Of course, yes. I currently take payments by PayPal via PhotoShelter. Although I can't accept Bitcoin on THEIR system I can ask them if they'd like to consider taking Bitcoin. PP's 3% fees they've earned from me over the last decade would have sent me on a nice holiday...

I can mention to people who want to pay me that I accept Bitcoin or Paypal in that order perhaps?
794  Bitcoin / Project Development / 3 things you can do to help the Bitcoin cause on: April 02, 2013, 10:12:08 AM
I've searched and found nothing similar or certainly not posted recently so I thought I'd share what I'm doing to help this thing.

1) Ask your favourite online retailers if they plan to accept Bitcoin. No need to go into a spiel - many may be considering it already but the volatility might be a negative factor. See this is a simple registering of interest.

2) Tell your friends about Bitcoin. Don't be preachy, don't be techy. Just link to a plain English, non-biased (yeah I know!) explanation of what Bitcoin is and what it has done recently. Perhaps drop in the caveats "What goes up.." Past performance is not an indicator..." etc.

3) Get a friend of family member to buy 1 BTC - damn this now reads like a pyramid scheme. Perhaps just ask, don't force. Now all my family know about it. Even my Mum asked "Where can I buy them?" <- Bears you may now reply using the word bubble or crash as you see fit.

My Bitcoin news posting on social networking mostly tends to fall on deaf ears but a couple of the more smart friends have asked me to explain more, which I have done. Perhaps in a year or two I will retroactively become their best friend ever when they come to cash in their pet Bitcoin Smiley

Anything else anyone would like to add?
795  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Here come the accusations of "You were just lucky!" [crosspost to Reddit] on: April 02, 2013, 10:03:53 AM
Before you all gloat up a storm being bitcoin 'millionaires' you really should watch what you say on reddit and here because there could be federal tax authorities watching...

I've every intention of paying my taxes...

Yep. I for one have tax losses to offset my (perhaps imminent) Bitcoin gains. I pay my taxes and always will. If your government REALLY wants to track you down and see how much you've made - they can. Hence no cloak and dagger from me.

It's certainly not greedy to want to make a profit, but what you do and don't do with that profit can be.
796  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Why are UK bitcoin buying options disappearing on: April 02, 2013, 09:53:48 AM
Blockchain.info disabled UK bank transfer last week. I tried once but I think they are running low of BTC stock or want to keep due to the rise of BTC price.

Damn you're right. It comes and goes to be honest. Not reliable at all.

I snapped up my last 20BTC at $70, I might have been lucky.
797  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Western Union to begin accepting Bitcoin (WSJ) on: April 02, 2013, 09:51:56 AM
April.

The 1st.

Put the two together.

Bingo.
798  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Why are UK bitcoin buying options disappearing on: April 02, 2013, 09:44:16 AM
I use Blockchain.info but they have been showing the "We have no more Bitcoins" message a few times recently.

They are however damn fast and the fee is 3.2% if you're depositing the max of £500 or thereabouts.
799  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: March 31, 2013, 09:21:27 PM

Is all technical analysis a waste of time then?

Yes

Then you have to concede that the price could go to $0 or to $1M in the next day. In fact the next second. If you use charts before you buy and sell, you are doing technical analysis.
800  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: March 31, 2013, 09:15:42 PM

I think it's silly to draw lines on such a chart and expect that to convey something about the future.

Is all technical analysis a waste of time then? Or just this rather optimistic log projection?

Surely it's worthwhile looking where we headed until we inevitably change course?
