So either they are not operating legally in NY or they don't exist. You do know at this point everything you post is going to get looked at and the scam pointed out and shown to the world. -Dave

Side note, this is one of those questions that comes up on a somewhat regular basis.
I'm surprised it's not discussed more since it is somewhat important. I have even seen the tinfoil hat wearing nutjobs that don't understand programming argue that since they can't see a line that says maxcoins = 21000000 that we all must be wrong and there is going to be an infinite amount of BTC.
Someone (not me) should probably put together a better (read more dumbed down) explainable way of showing this then what is in the slackexchnage link.

I don't see Anotld under the list of registrars accredited by ICANN https://www.icann.org/en/accredited-registrarsBecause if you are not accredited and are doing it yourself you cannot guaranty what you are saying because it's up to the provider you are doing it through. If they want to take someone down it's a click of a key and poof - you are gone. -Dave

...He had to surrender his passport therefore cannot leave the country....
Stupid American Question: I know in the Schengen zone you can drive from country to country without stopping at borders. Yes, technically he is on an island at the moment, but if say Ver was in Madrid what would stop him from hopping in a car and driving to France? Is there any kind of monitoring that is done? Kind of like here in the US, unless they make you wear an ankle monitor you can in theory hop in a car and go anywhere in the US. It's not legal and if you are caught there are penalties but there is nothing stopping you. OTOH: If the cops have to chase you they are bringing a beating with them.

Going to also put out there 2 things.
1) We tend to be paranoid, so even if someone or some group does come up with another client, it's tough to get people to move because who wants to run software that controls money that has not been as battle tested as core.
And
2) If I put together a team and came out with a different client and people used it and it was popular.....Then what, is there a business plan or are people donating their time? If it's worked on as a best effort thing how does the project keep up with core. And so on.
Yes, it's possible, but it's probably never going to happen.
And, to answer the question why is it not an issue. The answer is simple, because nothing has gone horribly wrong yet so we keep using it.

What I *still* don't get is looking at the list here all these services have been known to have issues and yet people HERE still use them.
Average guy on the street so to speak, yeah they do a search find what they are looking for and go with it.
But even now in the altcoin section people are still talking about using Atomic wallet and Changelly and other services with a terrible reputations.

Is it true that the Bitcoin code was changed so that only ASIC chips can mine it? I am under the impression it can still be mined with CPU/GPU- although of course not successfully mining a block due to low hashrate- but that it’s at least technically possible using Awesome Miner and EasyMiner. But a developer I am talking to insists the Bitcoin code was modified recently, so now it can only be mined by ASIC chip machines. Please confirm.
Bitcoin Core originally had the capability of mining on the CPU, but that feature was removed several years ago. You are correct about Bitcoin mining on CPU/GPU being possible, but completely impractical. More then several years it was removed in 2016. Even 8 years ago when it was removed it was years after you could realistically find a block with it. As soon as custom ASIC units came out in 2012 - 13 CPU mining was 100% dead, GPU mining was not far behind. -Dave

My only question is since it looks like it is made of metal and the max power is 55W why do they need such a large fan? A small one moving minimal air should be more then enough to cool it. Heck, I have a 90W mini PC router in an aluminum case that is passively cooled.

...
28 sats per byte should work
33 sats per. Byte should be better
Even easier is: https://mempool.space/They have the fees to get into the next block low/medium/high And more or less it's if a block is found NOW a high fee should get you in it, a medium fee will probably get you in it and a low fee should get you in it, but there is a chance it might not. However, if it takes another 5 or 10 or 20 minutes to find a block those numbers will change. So if you absolutely positively need it in the next block take the high fee and add a sat / vb or 2 and send it that way. If it can wait the medium fee is fine. Looking at when you broadcast your TX, 20 sat /vb was about 20% too low. -Dave

Bit of a necro bump but: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5499189.0I have *not* read through any of it and obviously cannot tell if any of it is true or not but according to what they are saying Atomic is part of a larger scam. Might be worth a read / look if you have the time. -Dave

As with anything it depends on it's use. For a hot wallet with minimal funds or as I like to say, never keep more crypto on your phone then your phone is worth. Then yes I think they are fine. For a 'warm' wallet or cold wallet, then probably not. As the 2nd 1/2 of a multisig I might use it to make some things easier but for the most part too insecure for me.

I think a lot of people do collect but a lot of them don't talk about it. Personally I used to do more but realized that a lot of what I was collecting was just going to wind up in boxes or in storage and never get displayed so I have been sell off a lot and cutting back on what I buy. When I posted this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5455887 a year ago I had a few people reach out to me for some items that I have never seen in the collectables section of the forum. I have also had a couple of non crypto people reach out asking for other things that they knew I had when I was selling off some other stuff for items they wanted to collect. BUT, they were not and still are not known as collectors. So there it probably a lot more out there that just value their privacy and unless they reach out to you about it you would never know. -Dave

...My ISP will definitely severely throttle my internet if I attempt to do that. (I do not exactly know what the fair use policy here is, but anything above 100GB will definitely trigger it.)...
Might be worth it in the long run if you download a bunch one month a bunch the next month and so on. Even if it takes 6+ months and some trips to someplace with free wi-fi if it exits, but in the end you would have a complete node. After that it's just copy the data to a new node when you need it and download whatever came down after you finished. Or, and I'm just putting this out there, someone here could download the blockchain for you and put it on an SSD and ship it to you. Yes, you would have to trust them but it might be worth it. -Dave

The design of Ethereum has been a topic of debate, particularly the execution of smart contract completely on chain. This method puts significant pressure on network and eventually leads to higher cost of transactions. Running smart contract off-chain appears a good idea to reduce congestion on network, however, it is upto the team of Ethereum to weigh the pros and cons and determine its viability for implementation.
In summary, there is no inherent flaw in Ethereum's design, however it requires continuous evolution to address scalability challenges while staying true to its core principles.
With ETH's current design, developers will need to continuosly scale the network to keep fees at the minimum. This will lead to centralization issues in the long run. Especially when on-chain computations take up a lot of resources. Keeping everything off-chain is the way to go. Only leave basic financial applications (sending/receiving money) on-chain. Sort of like how Bitcoin does today. ETH devs are sluggish enough (no offense) to re-design the network. Instead, they're forcing us to move to centralized L2 networks with low liquidity. Just like how BTC Core devs are forcing us to move to the centralized (and flawed) Lightning Network. ETH in its current state is a playground for whales and "Wall Street". Maybe it's time to move to another chain like Avalanche? ![Cheesy](https://bitcointalk.org/Smileys/default/cheesy.gif) Why more centralization? It's been shown that hardware and storage prices keep dropping. Now, will people want to bother running a local node is a different discussion. But the 'need more resources' is no more an issue then it really is for most things. We are still under 2TB and it works fine on a few gen old i7 -Dave

Yes, I am aware that this setup will thrash the disk a lot.
And you probably should be concerned getting warning from the VPS provider. What do you mean? @DaveF unfortunately, I do not have any other nodes elsewhere at the moment. Any reason you don't run this locally? 1TB SSDs and some older i5/i7 machines are not that expensive anymore. As a few of us have discussed even NEW N95 based mini PCs with 16GB and 1TB are under $249 I know it's not an insignificant amount of money but paying every month will eventually cost you more. -Dave

since when they started shipping 140W PSU? I thought they only shipped with 100W PSUs. I bought seperately dell 165W gan Usb power adapter for 40$. Now realising that buying the avalon 129$ version was better and i would have saved 10$.
Minerpals is shiiping them with only 100W adapter.
It was the one I got with the indiegogo order. I don't know if it was just the early ones that shipped with it or they all do. It's actually has a canaan logo on it, not just a sticker, so it's not 100% off the shelf. Might be no more then a 99.99% off the shelf part but they did at least do a custom run. -Dave
