81  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: March 01, 2015, 01:09:53 AM
I actually had something in development when Coinbase opened its exchange.  I stopped development when I heard the announcement.  I was going to introduce USD as a Counterparty asset, backed 100% by USD Ripple balances.  You could buy into the Counterparty tokens by sending Ripple USD to a specified address, which would then send you USD Counterparty tokens.  You'd then trade the USD Counterparty tokens against Bitcoins on the Counterparty decentralized exchange as desired.  You could also choose to send your Counterparty USD tokens back to the specified address, which would then send you Ripple USD.  In this manner, the USD would be 100% reserved in the Ripple address, which is publicly visible and verifiable on the Ripple ledger.

Anyhow, I halted development after deciding the need was greatly lessened due to Coinbase.  Am I wrong?

No hope for one of them decentralized exchanges we bitcointalk so much about?

I was thinking about this.  Has the Coinbase exchange lessened the desire for a decentralized exchange?

No time.  Quick message.  There has been much news today.

One piece no one has mentioned here.  Regulation of internet means everyone will have access to the internet, and thus to Bitcoin, by government guarantee.

And thus spreading the streaming around to all which means the current paying customers, that are used to superb service, are measured out to receive the mediocrity that this will provide. Like, give to all by mandate and those in the payment cycles will suffer streaming efficiencies but have no recourse because of this piece of buttcrack government shit. amiright? Grin

They'll never learn. Regulate: For the Children! and their netflix!

Agreed.  Power corrupts.

We're in corrective wave A on the 5 minute chart.  Per EW rules we shouldn't drop below 249.80 by the end of the A-B-C correction.  If this is to sustain, after completing C, we should see another 5-wave pattern to the upside.

I've had people ask to buy from me.  I just tell them I'm not selling and point to exchanges.  It drives the point home that this isn't something I'm trying to offload on them, but a precious commodity.

There's no reason not to support a hard fork for this functionality.  Your coins will be duplicated onto the new blockchain.  Whichever is more successful will live on.  The other will die.

Just when you think Bitcoin has stumbled and is heading down... bam.

90  Economy / Speculation / Coinbase is Insured on: January 26, 2015, 04:52:36 PM

Coinbase is insured against employee theft and hacking in an amount that exceeds the average value of online bitcoin it holds at any given time. Specifically, Coinbase's insurance policy would respond in the event that bitcoin stored in Coinbase was lost or stolen as a result of a breach of our physical security, cyber security, or as a result of employee theft.

Coinbase has held this insurance since November 2013 with highly rated carriers (S&P rating of A+ or A.M. Best Rating of A XV or higher).

What fundamental news might lead to a higher price?  Unique goods and/or services offered for only Bitcoin.  Fiat not accepted.

Ideas and stories how to cope with losing a lot of money

Everyone who has held US Dollars over many years has lost a great deal of money due to inflation.  Fiat is designed to encourage you to spend, not save.  So, do nothing and lose money.  Invest in Bitcoin and possibly gain a great deal of money.  Choices...

Better advice: Place your Bitstamp bids at USD$122.00.

Why $122.00?

Actually, I'd go with $128 to be safe.  You may miss the move at $122.  I think we're likely to spike down to there, but can't guarantee that.

The final move down of the current bear market in the most successful Elliott Wave counts should be above $49 based on the length of wave iii.  But it will more than likely be well above that, where we hit 1.618 times the magnitude of the 339.79 -> 683.26 move last year.  That point of support is at about $127.52.  After we hit that, we should at the very least retest the highs of November 2013 before hitting any newer lows.

THis post makes me want to market buy right now this is complete nonsense and this thread sucks.

Complete nonsense?

Is this the end of BTC ??

The Elliott Wavers would say that the bounce off the low is not impulsive with a 5 wave move.  They would expect this is still a retracement and we have another leg down to go.

98  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitstamp is open - now with multisig on: January 09, 2015, 11:49:55 PM
Now transfer some Bitcoin out.  If it works quickly then Bitstamp has all keys required for withdrawals sitting on their AWS server.  A hacker can take multiple keys just as quickly as one key when they are all put on the same server.  A hacker may be slowed if they are on different servers.  But you cannot keep the keys offline and have functional withdrawals.  Offline keys would mean someone sitting in an office approving all withdrawals by entering a pass phrase for each one.
99  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitstamp is open - now with multisig on: January 09, 2015, 11:36:42 PM
This means traders' Bitcoins are all in one or more community wallets controlled by Bitstamp.  Multi-sig protects their cold wallets.  But traders are not protected from Bitstamp themselves, and Bitstamp's hot wallets are still not protected from hackers as all keys required for withdrawals must be present on their AWS server for it to process the withdrawals.

Multi-sig implemented this way offers nothing to traders.

100  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitstamp is open - now with multisig on: January 09, 2015, 10:37:51 PM
Anyone with a sitting sell order on the books will have to give control of the Bitcoins to Bitstamp.  It's the only way to actually get execution on sitting orders.  Only Bitcoins that are not committed to an order on the books could be kept in a multi-sig wallet where Bitstamp has no access.  To go from that wallet to be able to use the Bitcoins in an order means waiting for confirmations.  So you either get multi-sig security with a confirmation delay to place an order, or you get no multi-sig security with no delay.
