no it also works with other scanner apps. probably apple has deactivated the url btw: I think the amount field and generate qr button are very difficult to understand for newbies. Might be better to hide them or remove completely. If you have succeeed using the app with any other QR code reader, I would be glad to know. I think I will replace the amount and generate qr button with "request money" button. Thanks for the feedback.

I am pretty sure it works only with that specific barcodes scanner app. However lately it has been buggy. I'm researching the case.

The receiver still has to validate the received funds with the bank, so it isn't really offline? Only in the sense that no bitcoin block network/blockchain is needed.
Edit: sorry, my bad, misread the title as "offline" instead of "off-chain".

Long term saving in Bitcoin is riskier than you make it sound.
exactly. some would say holding on to bitcoin rather than selling for a real profit is the gamble. Holding fiat money isn't a gamble, because you are guaranteed to lose and there is no upside risk. Bitcoin has the the downside risks but it also has a gigantic upside risk.

Is there any mechanism in place (or one that is being designed) to prevent this? If so, where can I find more info about the mechanism for preventing data chain bloat?
The maximum growth rate is limited to 52GBytes/yr by the rules embedded in the system— meaning a $100 1TB HDD can store around 20 years of Bitcoin history.. The users of bitcoin would be foolish indeed to change the Bitcoin protocol to permit more size than that until computers and storage are advanced enough that the increased burden wouldn't be problematic. I think 52 GBytes/yr is not that much. It could easily be 512 GBytes/yr, and still not a big deal. But then again, I definitely think that transactions should not be free. There should be some cost to making a transaction. I don't want to store others transaction spam just for fun.

The average user doesn't care about anonymity that much. I think it is fine to have variety in the marketplace, and it is good to have coinbase in bitcoin.

http://shop.bitcurex.com/index.phpMy friend has one, says it works like a charm. From speed viepoint it is pretty sweet deal - about an hour to convert your bitcoins to fiat. You can get those other prepaid cards, but the transfer from the exchanges take time. The downside is the very low volume and bad price on the bitcurex exchange...

I think "gambling" with bitcoin exchange rate is smarter than, for example, playing satoshidice. With real gambling you are guaranteed to lose, statistically speaking.

Hi, currently the escrowed purchase can be disputed after 24 hours. The feature tries to be universal, we don't have a way yet to tailor it to specific payment methods/countries. This is problem because often the transfers can take even 3 days elsewhere. Even in countries where it is usually very fast, there have been some big delays now and then. We are working on a feature which allows sellers to specify different limits/terms invidually.
Hi, I have requested to cancel an escrowed transaction yesterday through an email but haven't got any reply so I'd like to try here. After funding the enabled escrow transaction I haven't received any form of communication from the buyer nor seen his payment in my given account since 11th Feb. Can I ask you to cancel the transaction so I can have the coins back please. Thanks Woolloomooloo(Localbitcoin account) Hi, I guess I already answered by email. But just in case in the future, the best way to do this is by pressing the "start dispute" button in the escrow, which should be visible after 24 hours from the purchase creation. This way we'll spot the case from the admin interface and it is easier to deal with it. Currently we are getting a lot of support emails, and with our limited workforce we are unable to respond to emails in very timely manner. Sorry about that.

Due to the recent spammer activity we have added some limits on how much an account can create contacts.

Can't you invent some more fair method to compete than spamming at our service?

Also, I would love to have an ability to pause/enable selected ads flagging them in the list.
Check the selling/buying holiday from the settings - perhaps not what you need but a temporary help.

How long I must wait to get my bicoins back from the escrow if the buyer didn't trasfer the money to my bank account, in a timely manner? .
The problem is that the exchange-rate keeps climbing and its unfair for me to wait more than 24hrs to receive the payment, considering that here within my country the bank transfers are instant in business hours at least. The buyer has no excuse
The last two times that I've funded a transaction I've not received the e-mail notification that would include the SMS code to release the funds. I can login to the site and get this but previously I was getting the message as an e-mail which I could access from my phone.
Is anyone else finding that this e-mail notification isn't arriving? A later message after I release the funds (which includes the Verify code that I then give to the buyer) does go through so LocalBitcoins is sending those messages but it appears to just not be sending the one with the instructions for how to release via SMS. I've checked my spam folder and these are not showing there either.
I might be mistaken, but I think we have never emailed the release codes. kangasbros, there is one little but annoying bug. Using escrow as a seller, I receive email notifications (when buyer send a message) with a link. Usually a link to trade's page looks like this: localbitcoins.com/escrow_seller/xxxxx and that's ok. But sometimes for some reason link is wrong and looks like this: localbitcoins.com/escrow_ buyer/xxxxx and drop me to: × Error! Escrow with that ID not found or not sufficient rights. Thanks for the report, will fix it ASAP.

What about command-line-tool/JSON-rpc for the concept? I think that would be the key to get it to the masses.

We have added optional escrow to the traditional transaction as well. This is because some scammers lured people into sending money online without the escrow, and the excuse was that the online selling feature was too much hassle. Now there shouldn't be excuses not to use escrow, because it is easy to enable with a push of the button & funding the transaction.
The transaction feature is still suitable for local cash transactions without enabling the escrow.

One thing does not necessarily exclude the other, there might be a market both for dedicated asset issuing alternative blockchains and for blockchains such as bitcoin that mainly are used for buying and selling of products and services but including virtual asset issuing as an additional feature -- Phelix, by the way, do you have a link to the list of commands available for the namecoin virtual asset software?
I guess it's fairly easy to fork bitcoin, and just enable storing data to block chain using some additional info/format so that the assets can function. And naturally storing this data comes with a cost in the cryptocurrency.

I think it is a marketing problem. I want to know, how do I issue a stock, IPO etc with this thing, before I start using it. How does it work in practice?
Also, I want to know if namecoin limits apply to this. Can there be theoretically limitless amount of stocks issued? I think it doesn't make sense to limit the amounts of stocks/assets in this kind of system. Just put some kind of cost to putting information in the chain.
Edit: personally I do not believe in the namecoin concept, but a public stock/asset/etc ledger would be really useful.
