I already did a few times.

I joined to that pool a few minutes after Cryptsy listed 42 but was unable to fullfill my buy orders.
I mined there with 4.5Mh/s until the stratum server went offline.

After I moved to dedicatedpool, I tried to collect my 42 from pooljunkies but the website was offline for at least 24 hours straight.
When it came back online, my accoun didn't exsist anymore. Neither I can log in with my credentials, nor I can ask for a password reset.

I have no idea how many 42 I had in there. I don't think it's a huge amount, may be not even significant, but I don't even know...

Exactly. That's how you might manipulate the price. Either you start to move a huge amount of coins yourself back and forth (and hope to end up with more than you started with), or you make a lot of people to move small amounts (in a hope that they might eat up a lot of cheap coins and pump fresh BTC into the coin). So, if somebody says something like that, and a lot of people listen to him, then it might come true, regardless what that guy actually does with his coins.

Can I ask how many 42 is that? Could be anywhere between 0.003 and 0.008 (assuming your estimation is based on some historical and not some projected future 42/BTC price).

Yeah, that's what very fast diff retarget seem to cause.
First day: Why should I pay 1000 if I can just wait until the diff drops and some freshly joined miners will be happy to sell for 800 tomorrow? Second day: the same thing with 800 and 700. And so on...
The cycle might never stop because there is always lower and lower ... until ... the coin hits a 0.0x Gh/s speed and thus practically dies.

Yeah. 40 is obviously not enough while 45 is way too much. By no doubts, 42 is the optimal value. I have no idea how that Satoshi guy could forgot 21M in the BTC code back then. He must have forgot to remove the trailing zeros and extend the volume by 2x to reach the originally planned parameter before he finalized his code.

I lost at least 1 BTC on CAT, so I surely know. I put the remains into this coin, so I don't say it does not look better to me.

His argument is valid in my opinion. Technically, it's just a floating point number. 0.42, 42, 4200, doesn't really matter until you have enough decimal places on either sides of the decimal point (but you need to).
Block reward (relatively to the max coins) and diff retarget plan are more important. But still not really effective in practice.

I don't think the diff retarget system really matters. Some multipools will always think they can milk profit from this coin, so even if they fail to actually realize their expected profit, they will try regardless. And that is what really matters.

I am not here too long ago, yet I am tired of the constant rapid altcoin launches and falls already. Even as a miner, not just as an investor.
I am not here a long ago, yet I have seen this many times: A new coin launch brings in a lot of GPU resources (tens of gigahashes), then price and speed both start to monotonically fall and nothing can stop the process until it hits the point that even a middle sized GPU farmer could easily do an 51% takeover because the speed is only tens of megahashes. At that point, the coin build up a best reputation and it becomes highly unlikely to rise ever again.

I guess 42 is the last coin for me I put some trust into. If it fails like the rest, I will finally cut my losses and leave the field (join to an autoswitch autosell pool and stop speculate).
I practically take the risks and put my work into this just to keep up a seemingly constant value in coins. One gain only covers the other loss.

Price practically depend on the altcoin market as whole. Investors can only buy new coins from miners. Miners will only mine coins which are profitable to mine.
So, either investors give miners a nice enough price to continue the mining or the coin dies. This price is relative to all the other scrypt based altcoins out there.
Most of the GPU miners will constantly mine LiteCoin. The rest of them will jump back and forth. Many of the latter group will always mine whatever looks the most profitable in that very minute.

Yes, auto-switching pools with instant auto-sell feature really act like a cancer of the scrypt altcoin world.
But shouldn't forget that they are essentially just doing the same thing what many people would do manually or with custom scripts.
They are only take it to the extremes and rushing the inevitable.

And also don't forget that these limitless ridiculous coin launches we live through day by day are just that: actually ridiculous.
Those are the real cancer and this process which is only accelerated by the multipools is kind of in immune reaction.
The crypto world is asking for things like moltipools to cleans it from the endless line of coins.

The coins which prove worthy and live this through, are the winers with their shareholders.

You should not declare war against an enemy you can't fight off (multipools). Even more so, if that act can also piss of others (miners in general - including multipool users).
Hashrate is essential. Not only the hashrate, but a continuously growing network if you want to see a continuously rising price.
And I don't think there are enough cowboys out there anymore to achieve this without bringing in any miners in any form.
42 is a very interesting coin, but no coin can be that interesting nowadays. There is a "big thing" literally every day.
