801  Other / Politics & Society / Re: 0.001 BTC is all you need on: March 25, 2013, 09:17:26 AM
Stating that there 7 billion people and only 11 million bitcoins in existance, an average person need just 0.001 btc to do well. So, don't hesitate to distribute it among your friends while the price is not too low. One day they may thank you.

Probably not.  More than likely it will be lost.  Sell it to your friend if you want them to try to hold onto it.  This is money not doses.

802  Economy / Economics / Re: European Union is robbing its citizens' bank accounts. 9.9% to be confiscated. on: March 25, 2013, 09:13:21 AM
that's an absolute disgrace, they can just decide to steal 9.9% of your money and there's nothing you can do about it.

Wow what a great offer, deposit your cash with us and we'll steal 10% of it to pay off debts made by corrupt bankers

The interesting thing is they are bothering to tell you about it this time.  Of course the money controllers can do this anytime they want by loaning themselves new money.  This time they are telling you.  Any insiders care to tell us why?
803  Economy / Economics / Re: Would Bitcoin Suffer a Similar Fate as that of Unix? on: March 25, 2013, 09:10:33 AM
In the nearest future people will start to exploit asteroids. I wonder what people who invested in gold will say, when some company will bring someday asteroid made of gold on earth.

Lets hope people have learned a thing or two before such nonsense occurs.  Collective stupidity is getting a little old.
804  Economy / Economics / Re: Krugman makes some good points on: March 25, 2013, 09:07:32 AM
Quote
What that means is that if you measure prices in Bitcoins, they have plunged; the Bitcoin economy has in effect experienced massive deflation.

And because of that, there has been an incentive to hoard the virtual currency rather than spending it.
This is simply not true.

Imagine I want to keep 50% of my savings in USD and 50% in bitcoin. Bitcoin rises in value and suddenly my savings distribution is: 20% USD, 80% bitcoin. Now I want to spend (sell) bitcoin and hoard (buy) USD. If I have the option to pay with BTC or USD, I will pay with BTC. This can only be good for the bitcoin economy.

Saving is so strongly discouraged in the current economy that Krugman wouldn't ever consider this.

+1 Smiley

Yeah, your coin is now worth a whole lot more goods than when you traded for it.  And people think this will discourage spending your coin?  That's like saying that lower prices discourages shoppers.
805  Economy / Economics / Re: Deflation aside, is there any cure to volatility? on: March 10, 2013, 08:35:44 AM
This is the real problem to bitcoins adoption, no serious retailer will adopt a payment system that can wipe out their profit margins in the time it takes to confirm a payment. What is the free market solution to volatility?

Arbitrage bots also do quite a bit towards removing volatility.

806  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Satoshi Dice -- Statistical Analysis on: March 10, 2013, 08:24:14 AM
All bets * (1-.981).  That is roughly how much the house is expected to rake.

Think of SatoshiDice as a laundrer, it returns you 98% (roughly) of your money over time.  Now some people play wierdly trying to "beat the numbers" and they might actually lose 100% of their money.  That sweetens Satoshi's profits.  But as Dooglus has shown, pretty much it's just laundering and taking a 1.9% fee.

Thanks for the stats folks Smiley
It also might be interesting to see what fraction of users are selecting to have winnings routed to another address.
If the money goes back to the same address, it's hardly a very useful launderer.

807  Other / Politics & Society / Re: How The Government & Media Cheated Ron Paul on: March 03, 2013, 05:43:42 AM
Thanks OP Smiley

RP was the most popular politician of the last 40 years, and gave uncountable respect and credibility to the Washington DC government through his speaking the truth, and respecting all citizens past and present.  That video only begins to do him justice.  The huge support from all demographics for his rational thinking is a great sign of the health of the USA intellect.

For many, the fact that there is never any accountability in the voting system, exit polls are forbidden or adjusted, and no proof of your vote being counted is ever offered, is enough to show what's going on.  For others, you need a Ron Paul Moment to make things clear.  Last year we had not only the Republican primary fiasco but also the published footage at both Democratic and Republican conventions of reading from the teleprompter when supposedly a vote was going on, and then the payout of presidential election bets by "in the know" parties many days before the official result.  In 2016 get ready for Vince McMahon moderating the debates.

4. Make it proprietary. Never give out the source code! This is the most important thing.

5. Explain to the users that no you are not evil and you will not backup their private keys on your servers.

6. Don't understand why nobody uses your software

810  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Could Bitcoin be a solution for the raw milk market? on: February 19, 2013, 05:54:00 PM
After reading how much puss and fecal matter is in pasturized milk I dont drink it at all.  I hear raw milk is better but just stopped drinking milk completely I've been scarred.  Undecided

Most mammals stop drinking milk at a certain point in their childhood.  This is how we were built / evolved.
A few others are pretty fucked up and drink it all the time despite the obvious health problems that result.

Humans are, in many respects, unique among the animal kingdom.  We can actually metabolize a great many toxins, and are likely the most diverse animal in this respect.  A great example of this is chocolate, which can kill most predators if consumed in any quantity considered normal to above normal for an adult human.  Basicly the quantity required to give a child a stomach ache is likely to kill a dog without a vet's intervention.  Some things that we sometimes put into a salad are also toxic to carnivores, such as some mushrooms.  Coffee beans are mildly toxic, also.  Other less dramatic examples of commonly consumed foods that are toxic to other animals (and to some degree, humans also) include, but are not limited to, avocados, many nuts and partcularly macadamia nuts, peanuts (which, technically, are not nuts), raisins, onions, garlic, several common spices such as chives, and artifical sweeteners such as xylitol; although it's also arguable that all artifical sweeteners are also toxic to humans, by their very nature.

So the argument that humans shouldn't be drinking milk because it's not natural to drink another species' milk or beyond the age of four is, at best, lacking in scientific support.

I agree, like almost all nutritional claims, this one lacks scientific support.  It's really hard (and most would consider immoral) to do a decent controlled nutritional study.  Also, nobody really cares anyway, we care more about tradition and fashion than nutrition in our dietary decisions.  After all we have health insurance.

That being said, lactose intolerance is really common and there are a ton of people suffering from allergies, chronic problems, that probably are somewhat lactose intolerant and don't know it.  Casein has also been shown to be a strong factor in cancerous growth.

Also, you have a good point, the last 10k years have seen these primates adapt to remarkably diverse dietary sources.
For the record I'll eat anything you put on the table.

812  Economy / Economics / Re: Another extreme on the planet on: February 18, 2013, 09:32:26 PM
I am simply stunned by the total crap going on in North Korea. How long can they continue to do this until they effectively become obsolete in an exponentially developing modern world?

Sometimes a Picture says it best:

So you're saying North Korea is the only rational country around in that it doesn't pour vital energy out to the heavens for no reason?

 Economies need credit.   [...]

Does this mean economies need counterfeiting?  I'll loan you my car for an hour is that credit?  The bitcoin loan markets springing up are they credit?
815  Economy / Economics / Re: what if btc takes over €/$ ? on: February 17, 2013, 04:10:34 AM

how do we justify some people hoarding thousands of btc for doing nothing?

good point.  sounds exactly like what people do with USD or EUR.  so what's the bit deal you might ask?

simple answer:  you can't counterfeit the BTC / fraudulently create them
816  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: WTF happened to ripple? on: February 16, 2013, 10:14:59 PM
I could be wrong of course, but the first answer to your question that comes to my mind is:

the same thing that happened to Chaum e-currency, RSA, and many other efforts (OK you named at least one):  mainly, greed of the founders drove the ideas down into irrelevancy.

Lets see me proved wrong please Smiley  I liked what I saw at first too.

817  Economy / Economics / Re: Deflation arrives in the EU. on: February 16, 2013, 02:56:25 PM
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Causes_of_the_Great_Depression

Milton freedom and Ann Schwartz correctly identified the causes of the great depression. It was a contraction of the money supply (deflation) or debt supply how ever you want to look at it.
Considering that they are printing money faster than any time in history, how would we be experiencing [price] deflation?

[edit]

Two possibilities, which may or may not be happening:

1) The money being printed is only going into a few bank accounts and is not trickling down into the economy.  A guy with 12 figures in the bank suddenly gets 15 figures, it's not going to change his spending habits much.

2) Debts are being defaulted on also very quickly, meaning that there is actually not as much monetary inflation as you think.

820  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Isn't it about time for a major hack/disaster? on: February 15, 2013, 02:28:43 PM
Hmm, what fresh drama will the mid-season of All My Bitcoins deliver?
Here are some possibilities.

Prisoner Z - Satoshi is being held incommunicado in an Israeli prison.  To save Sprinkles, his beloved Corgi, he's forced to activate Bitcoin's auto-destruct code.

SuperNovaCoin - Vlad Putin makes RuCoin the official currency of Russia.  KGB intercepts all Avalon shipments, mines under the Kremlin.

Game of Pwns - BitcoinTalk troll wars escalate into ruthless blood feuds.  Assassination markets overtake Silk Road, new users are scared of being mistaken for scammers and killed.

JPMorgue -  MtGox is purchased by a certain TBTF Wall St firm with shady ties to the Federal Reserve.  BTC prices are suppressed by massive uncovered short positions.  Rallies are stymied by rapid margin hikes.

Great drama!  I will buy the books and the movies Smiley

more chapters:

GatesGate - a wallet stealing trojan is slipped into an automatic windows update, grabbing coins from a large percentage of users

ETcSDA - an Annunaki faction somehow able to crack elliptic curve crypto sells coins for gold.

HoBomaland FEMAcurity - armed with hollowpoints, merecenaries simultaneously raid homes of 1000 biggest names in bitcoin and grab coins with rubber hose attack.

2ndGenAsics - Usain Bolt helps design a running shoe capable of the 100 gigahash in 2.2 seconds
