421  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Colored Coins is back on: January 30, 2015, 12:14:04 PM
Call me a pessimist but I never see this catching on.

(feel free to quote in the future if I am wrong)

I agree. I don't want it to catch on either. Seems just like it adds negativity to bitcoin and something we don't need or want to see.

How does this add negativity?

Is there a bigger poster boy for selling out?
423  Economy / Economics / Re: Proof of Stake from an austrian school perspective on: January 30, 2015, 01:29:48 AM

USA (and other countries) have a powerful army they use to back fiat.

I never understand what people mean by that.  Can I bring my note to the bank and they will give me a soldier?
The army is a huge cost to an average fiat holder/user, not a benefit.
424  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: SCAM - Coinabul owe me 81btc on: January 30, 2015, 01:26:38 AM

Taking the site down should be pretty easy consider the amount of scam accusations over the net and the ongoing lawsuit..

I have managed to take down 2 sites by just contacting it's hosting provider and its registrar.

Its SSL certificate is provided by COMODO, they also can be contacted.

I have alerted 1and1 hosting through admin and sales emails.

you alerted it for what? Smiley  what does have the hosting with the service of one of its clients? Smiley pfff

Alerted them they are hosting a well known fraudulent site.    Common courtesy.  Of course they likely already know that, sure has been long enough Tongue
it's up to them if they want to keep hosting the site.  Right now they still are.

I didn't see the movie.  Also all the "box office" numbers are totally fabricated for the purpose of advertisement just like the "billboard music top 40" were.
426  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Help setting up an amazon ec2 instance node for a new altcoin? on: January 29, 2015, 09:33:51 AM
Hey. I am developing a new altcoin, but for some reason I am unable to connect to a node so the client won't sync. I am using amazon ec2 instance with an associated elastic ip as my node, but when I try to connect to it after downloading and connecting to the server my client still won't sync. Does anybody know how I can set up this node properly? Any help would be greatly appreciated, and maybe it will result in a donation Smiley
Thank you for reading this post Smiley

You need to set the "security model" for the instance to open up the required port.

There is a huge difference between people and animals.

You're right, there is a difference between a member of a set and the set itself.  Kinda hard to put your finger on the difference though.

-- bon appetit

Thank Goodness the animals know the difference.  Smiley

Yes, thank goodness we do.  It would be difficult if we often confused oranges with fruit, or bitcoin with money for example.

Just curious bro, what kingdom of life do you think you belong to?  Plants?  Fungus?

Do you have more power than your infant child?  Then by your logic you must have killed and eaten it.

Also consider that your family might be able to help you if you let them live.  Just because you can kill something does not mean that doing it is beneficial to you.

Speaking of survival of the fittest, if you cared about longevity you might be interested to try considering your health.

He said can, not must.

Good point, thank you.  My apologies to Elwar for misinterpreting.
430  Other / Politics & Society / Re: This frozen chicken “had a rich, emotional life.” on: January 28, 2015, 11:13:15 AM
It is called survival of the fittest. That is what our world revolves around.

Our governments have more guns, that is how they are able to tell us what to do and jail us if they want to jail us or kill us if they want to kill us.

Humans have more power than animals. That is why we can kill them and eat them.

If you are outraged about this, are you equally outraged about our governments being able to steal money from us and kidnap us?

If animals had more power than humans, then things would be different.

We live in an anarchist world, if you want to protect animals, protect them with guns from the other humans (or convince those with the most guns, ie the government, to protect the animals from humans).

Just curious bro, what kingdom of life do you think you belong to?  Plants?  Fungus?

I think the most important thing we all need to think about here is that chicken just tastes good *to me*. If prepared well, it is just downright tasty *to me*.

If not for the fact that meat tastes really good *to me* and I do not like most vegetables, I would also be a vegetarian. But this fact remains, so it is so.

FTFY.  Bon appetit!
432  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Day trading help on: January 27, 2015, 02:26:31 PM
A few lists of large exchanges that let you do what you are asking:

btckan.com/price
bitcoinwisdom.com
bitcoinwatch.com

Hello,

Thank you for your reply.

I do not understand how to use these sites to trade on btc/usd price

Lets say i deposit on a site using btc.
Then i want to buy more btc for the price going up. Who offers such options with stop loss and taking profit

Im a newbiew in btc trading and all the help would be appreciated.

Regards

Duke

The sites I gave give references to the many business that let you do exactly that.  For example, bitfinex.com is quite popular as is 796.com.
Careful, don't get zhou tonged or goxxed.  There are many risks to such strategy as you probably know.
433  Economy / Economics / Re: Ecuador: There's no *new* digital currency on: January 27, 2015, 02:24:33 PM
*face palm*

thanks for the information.

Can you tell us your experience, is there anybody using public currencies in ecuador or is it really all corporate fiat?

When this new project was announced the Government banned all the digital currencies other than U.S. dollars,
so no one is using BTC or other cryptos (at least publicly and very little privately in my experience).

The digital $ will be used in about one month so nobody is using it yet. I'll post an update when it's publicly available.

Thanks for your reply.  I visited Ecuador once and loved the country, it was just after USD had arrived there.  Hearing news of the "ban" meant little to me, we heard about China banning bitcoin and the truth was it was actually easier to use and more common there.  What does this mean as a ban?  Are people going to jail for running nodes?  Any internet monitoring to report?  Cheers --
434  Economy / Economics / Re: Proof of Stake from an austrian school perspective on: January 27, 2015, 09:17:31 AM
Let me attempt a parphrasing of the OP:

Proof of stake currencies have zero cost of production and therefore don't have the appeal to Austrian school economics and Marx school of value followers that Proof of Work currencies do.
435  Economy / Economics / Re: Serious flaws in Bitcoin monetary policy on: January 27, 2015, 08:55:51 AM
#1

You believe that inelasticity is a problem only because you believe that central bank control of the money supply is a benefit. However, to many people, the central bank is the problem that Bitcoin is trying to eliminate. The idea that an organization can have enough knowledge of the economy in order to control it is preposterous. The central bank only adds another element of instability.

#2

The difficulty self-adjusts to maintain an inflation rate that eventually goes to 0. The idea that "[when] miners halt their progress, [it] will create more inflation because they can mine more BTC now" is simply wrong.

#3

There is too much speculation and too many unsubstantiated conclusions to comment on. Plus, it depends on #2, which has been shown to be incorrect.

436  Economy / Economics / Re: Biggest Hurdle To Currency Adoption on: January 27, 2015, 08:45:27 AM
I was just reading somewhere that over 70% of BTC in circulation are owned by just about 1.29% of the BTC wallets. This accounts for over 41% of BTC that will ever be created. In contrast the top 1% fiat wallets in the US had about 30% of the nation's currency backed assets.

If this is true (I request our meticulous economists to vet it http://www.dioxidized.com/2014/10/10/bitcoins-wealth-concentration-creates-significant-hurdles-for-those-who-might-consider-adopting-it/ ), how can we expect BTC to become anywhere close to mainstream currency ? I guess BTC distribution among wallets will need to become far more even before any level of mass adoption can begin.

lol..  fiat is not a public currency so we have no idea how much is in anybody's wallet.

even with a public currency like bitcoin, we don't know how much controllers have because anybody can control as many wallets as they like
437  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: If only Friedrich Hayek was alive today... on: January 27, 2015, 08:41:45 AM
He would definitely love what's going on in the crypto-currency scene.  He was an advocate of the "privatization" of money.  Watch this documentary...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8bfTjp6Xw0&app=desktop

It's a must for bitcoiners and altcoiners alike.

I agree with your sentiment.  However, why do you use the word "privatization" when pointing out Hayek would have loved to see the introduction and spread of the first global public currencies?
438  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Blowout Victory For Syriza In Greek Elections on: January 27, 2015, 08:36:42 AM
this needed to happen, let these morons spend a few years returning greece to the stone age, let the people become even more impoverished and desperate, golden dawn is waiting in the wings

As long as they keep giving me their property in exchange for these virtual tokens I get at zero cost..   who cares?
439  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Does anyone have time to summarize/'translate' this crazy article? on: January 27, 2015, 08:35:21 AM
Enjoy? What lazyiness. People that think 9/11 was a hoax or a conspiracy are those that refuse to believe facts.

I will stop believing that it was a conspiracy, when the following facts are explained:
- How 3 buildings fell into their own footprint, when such kind a demolition is a demanding process, any mistake will cause the buildings to topple?
- How could all 3 buildings fall down at free-fall speed, when the accumulating rubble below should have been slowing down a natural collapse.
- How a fire that was burning sub-steel-melting-point for some 40 minutes made the building collapse, when similar fires, raging for hours in other steel building (with lower grade steel than the one used in WTC) didn't?
- How come steel and rock were melted at ground zero for weeks?
- How come there were no airplane fragments at the Pentagon site, and no extensive fire damage? The official argument for Pentagon case was: airplane fuel is not hot enough. Shouldn't they have come to at least a consistent explanation?
- How could a pilot who could barely control a Cessna, make a descending turn, zeroing in onto Pentagon?
- Where is the gold from WTC7?
- What about the acoustic analysis of explosions coming shortly before the towers were pulled down?

There are many more. There are also some quite obvious false leads among the conspiracy facts discussions, possibly having been planted later to discredit _any_ discussion around the topic.

Nobody conspired.  Accidents and coincidences do happen you know.
440  Economy / Economics / Re: Ecuador: There's no *new* digital currency on: January 27, 2015, 08:29:04 AM
I see there have been several rumors and misinformation regarding this digital currency in Ecuador.
As an Ecuadorian, I thought it'd be useful to post some facts:

Ecuador's currency is the US dollar since the year 2000 and that won't change at the moment.

A project to create a new  digital or even crypto currency does not exist.

What will happen in about one month or so is that people in Ecuador (myself included) will be able to create accounts in the Central Bank of Ecuador from our mobile phones.

We'll be able to make payments (i.e. transfers to another account) using our mobile phones only; we'll be able to make deposits on hundreds (thousands?) of points; and we'll be able to withdraw money from the same points, plus all the existing ATMs. Everybody will be able to send and receive payments this way, so we won't need to carry cash anymore.

What's new here is that these accounts are accessible from the mobile phone only, and no Internet connection or smartphone will be required (everything will be via USSD). The idea is to allow everybody to hold an account, even the poorest ones.

Also, because almost all Ecuadorians will have an account in the Central Bank of Ecuador, the Government will be able to use the money held in that Central Bank, effectively issuing virtual money (which is a common practice of all the banks in the world, nothing new here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hg_1iXbIjFQ).

This digital currency will still be US dollars. There is no new currency involved.
