Three Anonymous Bidders Take Home 50,000 Bitcoins In Silk Road Auction

http://www.forbes.com/sites/katevinton/2015/03/10/three-anonymous-bidders-take-home-50000-bitcoin-in-silk-road-auction/

Quote
The U.S. Marshals Service has announced the results of its third Silk Road Bitcoin auction, which began on Thursday. Two winning bidders took home the bulk of the Bitcoin, with one anonymous participant winning 27,000 Bitcoin and the another winning 20,000 Bitcoin, according to USMS spokesperson Lynzey Donahue. A third winner took home just 3,000 Bitcoins.

The USMS would not comment on the price of the winning bids. At current market value, the three winners’ Bitcoin is worth $8 million, $5.9 million, and $0.9 million, respectively.
...

I would have bid $111 per BTC for the whole lot.

823  Bitcoin / Press / Re: This is why Counterparty left Overstock's Medici (New Press Release) on: March 11, 2015, 03:36:14 PM

You're kidding me, this is the whole article:

Founders of Bitcoin 2.0 Project, Counterparty, Team Up with MathMoney f(x) to Make Markets Smarter

      Share with LinkedIn

NEW YORK, March 10, 2015 /PRNewswire/ -- The founders of the most advanced Bitcoin 2.0 project to date, Counterparty, have joined forces with MathMoney f(x) to found symbiont.io. Symbiont.io is a FinTech company focused on fostering the symbiotic relationship between traditional financial markets and cryptographic blockchain technology. Its efforts will be centered on the creation of SMART SECURITIES™: self-executing digital contracts that are stored on a global, shared database called a "blockchain," which no one party controls.

"I founded MathMoney f(x) (a SenaHill Partners portfolio company) to address the severe infrastructural problems associated with the emerging math-based currency trading ecosystem. After studying the intricacies of the blockchain over the last few years and working with Counterparty on a separate project it became clear that blockchains in general, and Counterparty specifically, could solve long standing, previously intractable problems that exist in modern financial markets. This epiphany made the decision to join forces with the Counterparty team a logical one," said Mark Smith, CEO of symbiont.io.

Robby Dermody, co-founder of Counterparty and President of symbiont.io, added: "Since we founded Counterparty over a year ago, our focus has consistently been on the creation and positioning of this technology as a solution for structural issues in the larger financial markets. Symbiont is the next step in achieving that goal."

Evan Wagner, one of the founders of Counterparty and the Managing Director of Operations at symbiont.io, noted: "We're excited about the positive impacts blockchain adoption will have in the systems that power modern finance, and we look forward to seeing this technology put into use in a way that increases transparency, liquidity, and the overall functioning of capital markets."

824  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Great Sponsorship Opportunity For CryptoCurrency Exchange With PICISI on: March 11, 2015, 03:32:28 PM
Just wanted to reach out because we at Sativacoin (STV) support what you are trying to do with PICISI. What is necessary for STV become a part of the project?

Pastafarian

Pastafarian thanks for being one of the first CC to endorse PICISI your support is appreciated.

Here's a little update on where PICISI is at:

 - one contractor is working on the PSD  to give everyone a sense of what the site will likely look like. I expect that to be completed within a week.

 - another contractor is working on the site itself, I expect the site to be completed in just over a month.

Backup contractors are in place in case any of the above experience failure.

and

I started movement in the direction of NXT's platform to originate the PICISI token.

As for what you can do, please:
1) provide your logo so that I could have it incorporated into the PSD
2) recommend people for PICISI administrative positions
and
3) tell others about the plan.
825  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-03-10] CD: ShapeShift Raises £525k, Reveals Erik Voorhees as Creator on: March 11, 2015, 03:14:56 PM
Esssentially this is going to be an alt-coin "tumbler" to wash stolen coins and push them out as unassociated Bitcoins. I'm sure they're thinking it will be used as a exchange only, but if the only thing you're dealing with is BTC and alt-coins, guess what kind of traffic you're going to get.

Also, being Swiss-based means little, as the moment they're suspected of anything, such as say - allowing certain parties to launder funds through their site, then the long arm of the USA will reach across the sea and give them a slap. You'd think he would've learned from his other fiasco, where he was fined by the SEC - but I guess if there's a "profitunity" Erik just can't help himself.

Just watch, this exchange is going to light up the radar at DHS, FBI, SEC, etc... because of how it is structured.

Wow, some people are just focused on negativity.  What was it that you read that lead you to that conclusion?

Here's how I envisioned using the services of ShapeShift at PICISI.   PICISI will be a crowdfunding site that accepts fiat as well as CC, so when you visit the site and want to support a campaign you could donate any currency you wish, but it a USD, a BTC, or a token with the technology of ShapeShift.   Of course the pricing would have to be modified in order to make it financially feasible but that another story.

Better late than never, I always say.

The article also states that people wanted reddit to adopt some altcoins as well. Which I can't understand.

Who needs an altcoin as payment method when you have Bitcoin. Doesn't make sense.

Ouch!!

with that mentality why stop there; who needs cryptocurrency at all if you have fiat,
who needs fiat if you have gold, heck who needs gold if you have salt, ... you get the point

Reddit has far more Altcoin constituents than btc constituents so the suggestion may have
political component to it as well.

If doge and ltc are the CCs driving the CC discourse at Reddit why did they get btc
in the first place?   Only because it's #1.

Altcoins will fade away at some point.

The altcoin economy is full of nonsense and gamblers hoping it will get pumped to secure a profit. It has no future perspective at all.

Bitcoin offers everything you need and is future proof. Only look at how much investors are willing to invest in it, that says enough.

It gets used by more and more merchants every day as form of payment, and these numbers are growing day by day.

Your prejudicial view of altcoins is reminiscent of fiat holders prejudicial views of btc.
827  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][EMC2] Einsteinium | funding science education, research, & development on: March 11, 2015, 02:58:35 PM
A game incorporating the crypto... Neat! Do any other coins do that?

Was it a planned implementation or did you just end up collaborating with someone?

Thanks for your question, EMC2 admins are constantly seeking ways to make EMC2 more relevant in the CC universe.  I specifically posted the full conversation so that anyone who wants to help EMC2 can see how it could happen, there is always something new happening.  The more involved we are the more utility we will have for our coin.

Utility is the best way to solidify the value of our currency, the more that is done with it as a currency the higher its value will go.

You asked about 'other coins' yes other coins are involved with that Dragon Knight, and more coins will be involved.   EMC2 is the 3rd CC admitted to the party, early admission allows those who come after us to see more of us.  Every impression we get helps build the coin.   You also asked if it was planned, the answer is yes and no, every developer / creator  plans on involving as many coins as they could, getting cooperation is not that easy.   But, no there was no collaboration.

Many months ago I learned of Cryptodatabase because of his crypto database collection project -- cataloged every single cryptocurrency in existence.  Subsequent to that introduction I invited him to write a story about his business to be published free at The Einsteinium News.  Since then I monitor his thread like I monitor many other threads seeking opportunities to to present EMC2 with a utility opportunity.

This sounds like a great project and we would like to get involved. Our coin is undergoing a rebranding and revival and our community would get behind this effort.

This would be especially beneficial to our community if you could accept our coin as one of the cryptocurrencies.

Let me know if there is any way we can assist.

830  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2015-03-08] Forbes: A Few Words About Bitcoin...Because Fiat Is Not Just A Car on: March 10, 2015, 11:24:52 PM
The author is certainly out of her area of expertise, she is not only off about BTC but also about fiat.

But so what, CC is so nascent we have to accept this sort of thing from the wider world.

This is why we must continue to make connectors, businesses that connect the CC universe with the fiat world.  Instead of making things that are only suited for the CC world.

PICISI is one such vehicle, it will allow those seeking crowd funding to collect donations in fiat AS WELL AS in CC (any CC or CC token).  When someone gets a donation, they don't have to download a wallet, read up on the specific currency, or speak fluent CC, there will be enough info to enable them to know the funds are spendable (like the green stamps in the article) and they could look more into it if they wish.   That gentle CC immersion is probably the better way of introducing our technology (CC) to the fiat world.

In the coming weeks I want to launch PICISI ...

Why would you post it in BitStamp thread?

Is it in any way related or just spamming?

Good question, as indicated in red, I want sponsors. so I'm specifically reaching out to exchanges inviting them to consider being the Official Exchange Sponsor for PICISI.

If you read the material there you will see why I posted, as well as why I believe it would be good for BitStamp to be involved.    As I'm developing the site, I'm also building the community.

yep, they hired some ryan dude to do that but in the article it says that was sidelined when the CEO got the boot, now recently the ryan guy got the boot too so there you go.

I'd rather not micromanage the project, I think you have a sense of what I want go where you feel with the project is leading you creatively.
