821  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Massive LTC DDoS attack on all major pools on: December 04, 2012, 03:10:23 PM
So is this then hashes that were submitted by users? as i was unable to connect during the attack..... i just don't see how blocks could have been solved with no user connection? I take it the DoS attack was causing the daemons to be unable to get updates to the latest block and hence were solving blocks that were not the latest ones and hence the invalids??

From time to time miners were able to connect , get work and submit results. If you were lucky you could even connect to website and view pool hashrates (I don't remember exact values, I observed like 15 MH in LTC pool). Probably Coinotron was simply solving blocks without information that they are old ones Smiley

Also just out of interest, did u have to do anything to bring the site backonline... or did the attack just stop?

They just stopped attacking.

I'm very interested in setting up a pool like coinotrons (handle many alt coin chains) but not done this before and might need a few pointers if anyone wants to PM me some details but after these attacks and reading community responses on here more pools would be welcomed right?

Definitely there is a need of having more pools. Especially in case of PPC and TRC.

FYI
Usage of PPS and RBPPS workers :

          PPS     RBPPS
BTC     15%      85%     ( 3 days after introduction of PPS/RBPPS workers )
LTC     50%      50%
PPC     60%      40%
TRC     70%      30%

BTC miners seem to decisively prefer RBPPS atm.

So most pools seem to be back online now, other than loosing hashing time and possibly loosing a few miners is there any damage to the pool when attacked like this?

90 invalid blocks in TRC pool and 6 invalid ones in LTC pool.
During attack pool managed to solved some blocks but almost all were invalids.

DDoS attack seems to stop. At least at Coinotron. I wonder for how long?
Anyway Coinotron is up and running.

FYI
We are still under massive DDoS attack.  Sorry for the inconvenience.

how do you calculate the power of  coinotroin ?why is it fake ?

why do you use  LTC    176.8 MH   as 176 GH ? why not 176 TH Smiley

any formula ? or just deceive users  and try to appeal more ?

Wow.  Perhaps you should educate yourself a little bit more before you start accusing others of malicious wrongdoing.  There are consequences for doing so.  Mistake of fact is not a defense for defamation.

Hehe.

It is probably yet another incarnation of my old "friend" from Polish Bitcoin forum.
He is quite knowledge resistant person. Even if I explained that I'm using rough x1000 multiplayer to get approximation of LTC hashrate in Bitcoin's units, that doesn't help. He will keep asking his hilarious questions.

FYI

PPS / RBPPS mode in BTC pool works perfectly. Coinotron solved first PPS BTC block (210499). Payouts has been calculated and sent.

considering your lower fees.. for a 24/7 miner it is worth it to have to wait a little bit longer for the coins if you are getting more of them Smiley

that said.. I REALLY wish you guys would track # of share submitted by miner....

We are tracking and storing # of shares submitted by each worker for all coins since beginning. However there is no UI to view actual values. Simply there was always something more important to do Smiley Currently for example Stratum/GBT seems to be such thing.

Useful info to add would be how often auto-payout triggers. Few people I sent to Coinotron went mad on me because it's not
instant, LOL! They were expecting that payment will be made as soon as they have enough confirmed coins, set payout amount
equal or higher than minimum value and click on "Save".
Yeah, that must be irritating.
Instant payout is on my dev. list.
Meanwhile I added info  how often auto-payout triggers.
Thanks for your help and suggestions Smiley
836  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ 400 GH/s - combined all subpools ] - COINOTRON pool - PPS/RBPPS in BTC pool! on: December 02, 2012, 11:17:32 AM

So high transaction fees could kill Litecoin. Anyway, thanks for clarifying the threshold.

When it comes to Terracoin, pool is still not linking payouts, e.g. payout address(es) to Terracoin explorer. Login > click on executed TRC payout > fail!  Tongue

Have you considered adding Namecoin as merge-mined with Bitcoin? Quite a lot of pools have such setup.

Those fees were designed to protect LTC chain from spam attacks.
I completely forgot about payout links! I will fix it ASAP.
I don't like the idea of merged mining in general + a lot of work to implement = no MM in Coinotron Smiley
837  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: TRC and PPC Block Explorer (WWW.CRYPTOCOINEXPLORER.COM) on: December 01, 2012, 10:32:27 PM
I restarted ppcoind 5 hours ago with maxconnections=8.
Memory usage looks promising Smiley It is at 75MB atm. After previous restarts ppcoind quickly reached 300-400MB.

838  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] TRC and PPC Block Explorer (WWW.CRYPTOCOINEXPLORER.COM) on: December 01, 2012, 09:41:32 AM
Good to know. I will try it on next PPC restart.
ATM my workaround is to increase share difficulty. This decreases number of RPC getwork calls. It helped me to extend time span between restarts to 3 days.
839  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ 400 GH/s - combined all subpools ] - COINOTRON pool - PPS/RBPPS in BTC pool! on: November 30, 2012, 08:59:02 PM
What is the reason for LTC having so high payout threshold? Looking at reward per share, I think 1 would be more appropriate value.

Almost to each transaction below 10LTC litecoin client adds 0.1 LTC transaction fee. In case of 1 LTC payout it is 10% !
Relatively high 10 LTC threshold was easiest to implement.
Another solution is small payout fee for payouts below say 10-20 LTC.

TRC-relevant stats should link here:

http://www.cryptocoinexplorer.com:3750/

Also, it seems to me BTC per day is still calculated at 50 BTC / block.

1. Amended
2. Fixed
