you may ask BitGo to serve as the Chief Compliance Officer for +250k USD per year.  Wink

It seems to me BitGo was only interested in profits instead of TRUE security.
822  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Bitfinex HACKED - funds stolen ! on: August 06, 2016, 07:37:42 PM
The following IS THE WAY in which BitFinex should have used multi-sig wallets for customer accounts:

1.  The "customer" should have one of the 3 keys.
2.  It is MANDATORY the "customer" key be used to withdraw funds from their account in conjunction with Finex key.
3.  BitFinex would not be allowed to withdraw funds from a "customer" account without the permission of the "customer" via the "customer" key.
4.  BitFinex would not be allowed to withdraw funds from a "customer" account in conjunction with BitGo key without BitGo receiving permission DIRECTLY FROM THE CUSTOMER via email and/or 2FA.
5.  If the "customer" lost their key, this is the ONLY TIME BitGo key would be used to withdraw funds.  HOWEVER, the "customer" would have to be the one to give BitGo permission VIA EMAIL directly with BitGo in order for BitGo to use BitGo's key with BitFinex key to withdraw funds.

It's really quite simple.  It's common sense.  WHY it was not done this way is beyond comprehension.  The key that BitFinex held in cold storage SHOULD have been the "customer's" key; NOT BitFinex's secondary key.  They might as well throw that cold storage key in the trash.  It was never going to be used unless BitFinex lost the key they were using.

A multi-sig wallet should also have a 4th key held in cold storage by BitGo to be used only in the event BitFinex AND the customer lost their keys.

EDIT:  WHY, BitGo did not INSIST it be done this way as the terms of doing business with BitFinex is sickening as well.

I might try setting the slots to gen 1, but the cards are detected. The problem is that I cannot change the overclock/voltage/fan settings, and I think hashrate is slightly lower as well. I see a lot of 6 card rigs using just x1 risers that have the DVI cap off with no dummy plug on ( just the maincard ). Can you even plug a monitor into the main card with a x1 riser??. Has the main card been on the board to set the rig up and install teamviewer etc, but then put on a riser after? I still don't understand how hashrate would be at the normal levels. I think clock speeds and voltage would be reset as well.

My PCI slots were factory set to "Auto" instead of Gen 1.  Yet, all 6 were still detected.  However, the rig would mine for a few minutes with all 6 then stop hashing.  I would not be surprised if this could be why you are having issues.  Had to set the CPU to x8/x4/x4 as well.

Yes, all of my GPU's are using x1 risers.  I can use my monitor with HDMI and DVI-D cords with no issues.  I have never had to install a GPU straight on the mobo to set up a rig.

824  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Claymore's Dual Ethereum+Decred/Siacoin GPU Miner v5.3 (Windows/Linux) on: August 05, 2016, 07:59:39 AM
is there a way to use 6 cards with integrated graphics? i thought that a 16x16 riser was needed for the main card as well if you wanted to use 6, but i now have seen 16x1 riser with display plugged into card?

Could be a dumb suggestion...

Depending on your mobo, you may need to go into Bios [If you haven't already] and set your PCI-e slots for Gen1 and CPU to x8/x4/x4 to get all PCI-e slots going for 6 GPU's with USB risers in every slot like my own.  My MSI gaming boards require Bios changes for PCI-e slots to run more than 4 GPU's stably with USB risers without shutting down the rig periodically.

I was fortunate enough to find this out from a good friend.

Which ETC pool is best for you? I tried many pools, the rejection is between 15 to 30%. So I gave up.l

The following pool is an excellent pool originally set up for ETH but we are now mining ETC.  I've been on here approximately 24 hours.  Payouts are every 4 hours.  Pool fee is 1%.

http://miningeth.com

EDIT #1:  I use my Poloniex ETC Deposit address as my wallet address for now and it has worked fine.

EDIT #2:  I've earned 46.61832836 ETC over the past 24 hours with 1.44 GH.  Not bad for my first 24 hours there.  I pointed my rigs there at approximately 2:30am CST yesterday.  It is currently 2:47am CST (approximately 24 hours).

EDIT #3:  I'm adding one more rig later today with 6 x RX 480's on an MSI gaming mother board and I have 5 more RX 480's on the way to get up and running by Friday or Saturday.  The goal is 102 RX 480's to go along with the 74 x R9 380's I already have.

When I add my current 11 x RX 480's, that will put us right at 1% of the ETC network hash rate.  We could use more miners if any wish to join.  Keith, is an excellent pool operator.  He knows his shiznit.  Your in good hands with him.

Most all of us at the pool have [Or will be] switching from ethos to awesome miner awesomeminer.com [Which uses Claymore when mining ETH or ETC] to enable us to jump around to whatever alt coin we want to mine, which see: http://awesomeminer.com/guide/awesomeprofit.aspx.  I plan on having all my rigs running awesomeminer by next weekend.

very good documentary. Thank you!

Just finished watching it myself.  Yes, it was good.  Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Thanks dmwardjr.  That is a great link, and don't even have to use torrent (at least while it is still available... in other words, if anyone here is interested in watching for free, they should do so, while the link is still available and active).

You're very welcome.  I'm watching it myself shortly.  I just got back from a ten day vacation in Florida and got caught up on news.

Even though I have not read the book:

Digital Gold,

it seems to be a very informative book related to bitcoin.

Also, if anyone has a free link to the movie, "the end of money as we know it," I would be interested in watching the free version of such movie.

Below is a link to the trailer:

hey guys, looking at getting these for my gpu miners.

Is there any chance of a breakout board that Has ATX and cpu connections on it? would rather use one psu rather then one for mobo and one for the gpus.

Cheers

Be careful with server PSU's when GPU mining.  Especially, if you are using risers.

The revolution has begun! Yeehaw.  Cool

("The Great Bitcoin Rally of 2016" has a nice ring to it.)

Yes, it does.  However, I believe 2017 will make 2016 look like playing poker at the kiddy table.

In percentage terms, the rise in 2017 could be lower than the 2016. In 2016, the price could triple, in 2017, it could only double.

I can see your point of view from that perspective.  However, I'm taking into account other things going on in our world economy that may create flight from FIAT into crypto.  2016 is only the beginning of a massive pump to last for several years to come.

EDIT:  I can see $14,000 per BTC by end of 2017 quite easily.  [That's being VERY conservative IMO].

FOMO is nothing compared to FOLOF (Fear Of Losing On Fiat).  Many will seek to hedge potential losses from their own currency devaluing by purchasing crypto.  We could have as many as 100,000,000 Chinese purchase bitcoin by end of 2017.

By the time you get the new card, you will mine the same amount with the same price as the difficulty will be much higher.

You have a valid point there.  By the time they come out and a ginny pig spends $200 to find out if it will mine ETH and we get word of it, it's quite possible my 3,000 MH/s from 100 x MSI 390's will have mined approximately $10,000 worth of ETH at current difficulty, block time and price of ETH.

That's $10,000 towards a $34,000 to $35,000 investment.  That investment could be paid off in 4 months.

I'm an ignoramus as to how ETH works.  Any idea who or what determines when ETH changes from POW to POS?  Of course, I could research to find out for myself.  However, if someone knows the answer, I would appreciate the info.

Its simple really.

They will release the new software for nodes to update to and if they mine then wont update and POS will be delayed.  The guys at ETH put a difficulty bomb to make mining impossibility hard in the future so the majority will update or the network will freeze and kill the coin.  In crypto generally once 51% of the network decides to use a update then it becomes official, its like share holders making a vote in a publicly traded company.

Sounds like all of us need to begin kick starting our own ETH nodes to have a vote to keep the mining going a bit.  eh?   Grin

I was researching this topic earlier this year and find this link best to explain POS/Casper and Life after POW.

Hi citronick,

Thanks for the two links you provided in your two posts.  Much appreciated!

It's the power savings that got me hooked.  I can run twice as many for the same price!!

BINGO

Wait, I'm not 100% sure on this, but is the 480 the top of the line, or is it only the next-gen 380, and then there will be a "490", etc?

I was thinking they were advertising the RX480 as the "sweet spot" for price/performance and stuff, but I didn't think it was their highest-spec GPU?

Knowing all this, would it be worth getting a 290 right now? People want an arm and a leg for 390's it seems, but even the 290 is expensive at well over $200 for aftermarket versions. But then, the RX480 would outperform it for $200 anyway... I think. Guess we'll have to wait until the end of the month for a clearer picture. :/

Apparently dmwardjr is some kind of bitcoin prince lol. Mind throwing a few my way? Not even sure I can pay my rent this month. XD

No, but seriously.  Cry

Yes, it appears we may have to wait.  Not sure.  Wish we knew something concrete NOW.   Grin

No, not a BTC prince.  I've had as much as 148 TH/s (30 x S7's of varying batches) mining out of my home.  I have not sold any BTC I've mined to pay for power costs ever since I started mining.  I paid all of my power bills out of pocket ever since August 2014 to hold on to my BTC to sell for bigger profits at a later date.

Sorry, cannot pay your rent.  My wife was laid off from her job (Accountant for an oil and gas company) the second week of January this year.  We are now relying on me to provide for us by whatever legal means available.  Hell, our health/dental insurance for the three of us (I have a 5 year old son too) is $1,530 monthly.  That's a damn house note by itself but I have one of those too.

I'm surprised that no one is taking pre-orders for them yet.

Same here.  I'm kind of in a "Catch 22" situation.  I was about to purchase 100 x MSI 390 GPU's until I heard last night about the AMD RX 480 with 14nm chips coming out June 29th.

Especially, since no one is taking pre-orders on them, I'm wondering if there will be limited quantities that will limit retailers to 5 GPU's per customer at first?

meh I think 390's are a good deal when its a good sale price, even with the 480 coming out.  Depends on your electric setup.  I'm waiting for 480 too, but if I can get some cheap 390s...I'll get those too Smiley  although im not buying 100 god damn lol, so far my XFX 390s are running over 33mhs, good temps, and seems perfectly fine.

Totally agree!  I might pick up some if I can find them for $250 or less per unit.  However, I'm not buying a lot of them.  There are too many pro's to wait for the 480's  I cannot think of any con's for the 480's except for having to wait and not knowing if we can mine with them out of the box (software/drivers).

Hell, I'm getting 186 units of RX 480's since they consume less power than the 390's. I only hope I can find that many someone will sell at $199 each when they are available.  However, the other concern I have as well is if they will be sold in limited quantities only in the beginning.  If that is the case, I'll have to wait potentially 30 to 90 days longer to get the units I want.

Not sure if this question has been asked yet or not:

Will we have to wait for someone to write a special software for the AMD RX 480 4GB coming out June 29 @ $199 USD in order to mine with it?

I asked this about 10 pages ago, guess we're going to have to wait and see.

Okay, Thanks!
