Also, if NMC is the only one you're merge mining with, ...

Is it possible to add more than just NMC to do merged mining? I thought the only possible option is BTC + NMC. No?

you can do whatever you want, just run thier daemon and change the rpc ports for each whatever you want to mine so they don't conflict and add it to the command line --merged http://user:pass@127.0.0.1:port/

the VRM on the 5970 is a weak link. they tried to save a buck a card by going to a 3 phase power rather than the 4 phase power that is on the 5870 and many cards VRM run way too hot and die a early death because of it.

I consider it a design defect, the manufacturers should eat the cost of the rma's luckily in the 5970 days many offered lifetime or 5 year warranties. many companies dont do that anymore, especially after the nvidia chip fiasco and various problems with ATI.
843  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: brace yourself... difficulty is about to increase, a lot on: May 09, 2012, 02:55:46 PM
Its just like stocks or any other commodity, how many people want it vs how many are selling it. If everyone stopped selling the value would go up as long as demand could stand the price and the holders could wait out speculating for a higher profit. Likewise, if the price jumped drastically so many would sell that the market would get flooded and the price would drop.

Current FPGA are high up front cost and no resale. Either you are doing it for long term and will perhaps break even in a year or two, or you were an early adopter and have a scrooge mcduck pile of coins to cash in to "waste" on them.

The real GPU killer will be when someone gets either super cheap FPGA or an ASIC developed.
845  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: brace yourself... difficulty is about to increase, a lot on: May 09, 2012, 01:33:03 PM
Much more likely is that Mystery miner, or some botnet got bip16 coded right and is back in business.

think about it, if there were thousands of machines that needed to be updated it would be a slow increment as they were updated and rebooted by owners or whatever. It wouldn't magically all come online at once.

fat chance of getting a 6990. they'll probably just ship you a 6950 or 6970 and claim it's comparable and tell you to F off.

Good job cabin. Screw us all.

848  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 3 x 6970 in Windows...Help needed (.5 BTC bounty) on: May 07, 2012, 08:58:03 PM
AFAIK you can't get the 6XXX to run a drastically lower memory. Even if you edit the bios the clocks are hashed, within windows it will BSOD as soon as the driver loads if you alter them. In linux you can change them to whatever you want. It's a gotcha bulilt into the driver by dear old AMD. With cgminer you can use the memdiff paramter to auto adjust the ram speed to be slower, I think 125 or 150 is the limit.

So if you are running your gpu core at 900 mhz, the ram can go as low as 750 or 775.

They're coming so fast now we managed to orphan one of our own at 179105!

If we don't hit another block for a week I'm going to kill you. Never mention good luck. Ever. It's the first rule. LOL.
850  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Re: CGMINER GPU FPGA overclock monitor fanspeed GCN RPC linux/windows/osx 2.4.0 on: May 04, 2012, 06:29:01 PM
What I'd love is to have a command to have cgminer reload the config file without restarting.

That way you could change or edit the files and just trigger a restart in the api.

And the problem is the new version keeps disabling the pool. So, you runt that off and it hammers the site.
852  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [360GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: May 04, 2012, 02:08:16 PM
p2pool is PPLNS. Your shares build value slowly and loose value slowly. It's to encourage long term mining. You won't see your maximum payout until a couple block go by, and even then your reward will be split among several later blocks as well.

There's a good explanation with pictures here, http://pool-x.eu/aboutpplns

Nope get the error on your pool.

Did you delete the data folder and replace the web-static folder when you upgraded?

forestv:

0.11.1 - accessing page   /peer_addresses returns:

Quote
Request did not return a string

Request:

<GET /peer_addresses HTTP/1.1>

Resource:
<p2pool.web.WebInterface instance at 0xbfdb1ac>

Value:

u' .. ip addresses....

this works fine for me

I'm still not getting any shares ( on .11.1 ) Sad
855  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [360GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: May 03, 2012, 05:24:28 PM
switched from cgminer 2.3.6 to 2.4. p2pool is primary with another as failover

was running 2.3.6 and .10.3 and was getting a share every 10-20 minutes

I've only gotten 1 share in 4 hours with >4GH somethings not happy.

I'm going to switch back and see whats happening.

012-05-03 13:25:05.584000 P2Pool: 17398 shares in chain (17402 verified/17402 total) Peers: 10 (0 incoming)
012-05-03 13:25:05.584000  Local: 4101MH/s in last 10.0 minutes Local dead on arrival: ~1.6% (0-3%) Expected time to share: 11.1 minutes
012-05-03 13:25:05.584000  Shares: 1 (0 orphan, 0 dead) Stale rate: ~0.0% (0-66%) Efficiency: ~110.8% (37-111%) Current payout: 0.0732 BTC
012-05-03 13:25:05.584000  Pool: 310GH/s Stale rate: 9.8% Expected time to block: 5.8 hours

Edit, switched to .10.3 with the current 2.4 cgminer and got 4 shares already. Either I had the worst luck and then the best luck or something's hokey for me.
856  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [360GH/s] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: May 03, 2012, 02:32:21 PM
.11.1 keeps saying Couldn't link returned work's merkle root with its handler. This should only happen if this process was recently restarted!

It's been running all night, restarted earlier and it's still saying that occasionally.

I got mine from here, came with the whole rifle plus all accessories in a crate for $80.

that place is awesome.

Its nice to see luck increasing a little.

Oh god, all is lost! I ruined it last time and now it's happened again... New P2pool thread rule: NO TALKING ABOUT THE LUCK!

yeah this morning it was terrible. 5m blocks. just plain suck. lol
859  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [ Bonus PPS Pool - 105% ] - Private Beta OPEN on: May 02, 2012, 12:41:16 PM
I switched back over. All my miners are on 2.3.6 let me know if there's trouble.
860  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [ Bonus PPS Pool - 105% ] - Private Beta OPEN on: May 01, 2012, 07:37:23 PM
Why don't you just make the pool autoreset every few hours rather than unplugging it for half a day?
