Just discovered shadow and absolutely love the idea and the claims it makes and I definitely will start paying attention to this coin and will have my full support after I do a Lil more research and see everything is what n it seems. Having said that however, I had a huge red flag/deja vu feeling while going through their site. The whole lay out, feel, features, general mechanics (on this I may be wrong, I'm no cryptographer) and even b the logo itself are frighteningly reminiscent of cloakcoin for those who remember. I had high hopes for cloak and supported it as I thought (read: hope) it would be revolutionary but in the end it flopped and was abandoned and I lost a nice chunk of $ in that endeavor when it's value literally vaporized into thin air. Does anyone know if this Dev team is in any way related to the cloakcoin fiasco? Forgive me if all this has been asked/cleared up earlier but as soon as I saw that site I literally dropped was I was doing and was compelled to come here and see what you guys thought/knew regarding my concerns.  I've been into Btc since Q2 2011 and have gone through a lot of ups and downs in my crypto adventures and now I'm very cautious border lining on the paranoid some would say, which I hate because I l love the community and love the technology but unfortunately there are many many bad actors behind the scenes with less then pure motives we need to protect ourselves against! I completely forgot my original username or even email I used for my original account here as I haven't posted here in years and have always been more of a lurker them poster on bitcointalk which is why this is fresh account with no prior posts. I am not trolling here, I just want to know if anyone else noticed this or can enlighten me so I can feel better about supporting and taking a chance on yet another new alt coin. I think once we get the Shady Bay up and running and have some real commerce done with the coin we'll know a lot better where the improvements need to be. We'll know how much Shadow vs. SDC we need, and what extra communication features the wallet will need to facilitate sales.
Something I've always wanted to see in a wallet is an encrypted shipping info form. You would have fields for an item number, your name and address, and the transaction identifier would be automatically added such that the shipping info would be semi-permanently attached to the coin transaction. Without that a guy who is selling a lot of stuff can get confusion as to what he is expected to send to whom after the payment.
We should have some kind of massive chatbox or irc type deal in the wallets... that would be cool so everyone on the ShadowNET can talk and collaborate with one another. As well as PM people. This should all be built into the wallet. ShadyBay should also be in the wallet. If this happens shadowcash will go to the moon You know that encrypted peer2peer messaging is already implemented in wallet, right? It might not be exactly groupchat, but for PMs it's enough. And ShadyBay (huh, we're going with this name now?) will be in wallet as well. Check out the designs.Yes I was aware of that. One of the problems with the P2P messaging as it exists now is it's semi-volatile, will disappear in 48 hours if the recipient has not had his wallet online. This is probably not a good idea for commerce. the i2p network idea sounds cool what is that exactly ? If we do implement this can we put in a group IRC chat in there as well ? |

What if you send me 27 coins, then I send myself 3 more Shadow, then I convert 21 coins back to SDC tomorrow and 9 more next Tuesday? I think that what's more important is that the user is in control of how often that happens. Some will screw it up for sure. Future versions of the wallet can help with that. Circumstantial evidence can and is used in court, as part of a case. One little clue like this probably doesn't prove a case by itself but it could still be a relevant piece of evidence. It can be used as surveilance to start or continue an investigation to gather more direct and more damning evidence. In countries that don't quite abide by the rule of law it might make you look guilty enough to for bad things to happen even without "proof." I'm pretty sure that isn't what you want either. Also, who's talking about court necessarily though? I thought the idea was actually keep one's transactions private, for example from competitors, employees, employers, former business partners, customers, suppliers, political opponents, repressive regimes looking to track and/or cut off funding to dissidents, ex-spouses, stalkers, etc., not just (perhaps narrowly) evade prosecution. I have no idea though, perhaps that is not the goal of SDC. It is certainly the goal of other coins I won't mention here. and is fixed by not being careless Not entirely. If I send coins to you, I have no control of how careless you might be with the coins I just sent you. If you transact with them in a careless manner, that creates clues that may point back to me. It also contradicts the notion of "ease of use" if the onus is on the user to "be careful" all the time, or leave a trail. More to the point, consider the case of blockchain analysis. The goal of which is to take little pieces of information and put them together to make inferences about what types of transactions are for what purpose. That's how bitcoin tracing actually works in practice. There is no direct label on most addresses/transactions that tell exactly what they are, but by treating the blockchain as big data you can process it and make inferences. The goal of anonymous technologies like shadow (at least as far as I know) is to remove those clues and stop the surveilance. It's more effective if you aren't incorporating transparent addresses and traceable transactions at a high frequency. But as I said if it isn't used too much and most transactions are Shadow->Shadow, then this is nothing to worry about. So I guess its just a question of seeing how it plays out in practice. you make some good points, but for a 3rd party to be gathering evidence like that the person they are surveling is probably very naughty and therefor very careful, yes the person they are transacting with could e careless resulting in them being exposed we need to address this good point, but for normal everyday people who like privacy or are committing minor felony's( buying some weed or avoiding tax etc) it's not really a problem imo. |

As i said like 3 days ago i will donate i asked someone here the other day to help me and got ignored, i think personally off the top of my head trust worthy people are childharold longandshort fearcoca skip60 and a few others im too drunk to think of i would be happy to send coins to any of these people and would feel confident they were in good hands, so let me know, i said ages ago i would start a giveaway so im starting one now, if your up for it and have proven you are here long term trust worthy and committed like the names before mentioned speak up, i would do it but seriously don't have time (pregnant wife..  ) so yeah but...i think giving smaller amounts is a better idea and this is why, only 50% or less( most proably less) of people who receive free coins support the community most dump and buy whatever coin they want, so if i send 1000 SDC and you give 100 to 10 people you can almost bet 5 of those people will dump and be gone almost straight away never to be seen again the other 5( my estimates are examples) will most probably see the wallet and the tech and buy more( SDC is cheap still )and join the community so wouldn't it be better to give 100 people 10 SDC? that's 100 people who have to download the wallet to receive them and the wallet is impressive lets be honest, and so is the tech i think out of that 100 people at least 30 would stick around that's 30 new investors, 30 new community members, 30 new brains to contribute suggestions and ideas and also this is how distribution really spreads, 10 ain't much now , but SDC has a bright future,10 SDC maybe nothing at this moment in time but is 10 BTC nothing? at one point it was, if a few people kick in some coins and we keep the coins per person small we could add hundreds of long term investors to this community, lets be honest giveaways are not about generosity they are about exposure, and that is what we need, my 2 cents, oh and not only would i be willing to donate SDC for giveaway, will donate fiat for that shadow social network that uses aliases instead of real identity's ( like faceook but with aliases linked up to your shadow public key) i mentioned the other day to be built, i have a dream of a SDC wallet, with inbuilt market and social network as well as the encrypted communication and anonymous transactions, my dream for SDC is the ultimate liberty tech, a world changing product, that's what SDC could be, and we could all be a part of it, lets do it. My wallet isn't syncing only one peer connected nuked the whole thing downloaded another now have 9 peers but still not syncing my last transaction was 24 hour ago atm  try this, go to help tab in wallet, click on debug window, click console, type rewindchain 249000, press enter and leave it for a bit, rhyno gave me these commands and they worked for me. |
