There are several ways to secure your wallets, I'd reccomend to put them on a local storage that doesn't access to the internets daily.
I am a linux users but I had to install Windows on my pc due to my job, but I felt my coins were in danger being on a windows enviroment.
So ultimately I came up with a dual boot solution, I have my coins stored on my linux OS where I access to just for security updates whilst I use windows for daily use.
You can also setup a virtual machine on windows installed on a encrypted partition as well, or store your coins on a removable device (remember to backup!)

But for fucks sake, do not trust any third part.

Word of advice - get a computer (laptop) and use it for NOTHING but Wallets
ONLY attach this computer to the internet AS NEEDED

Good advice.

For those slightly less ambitious (or rich) you can get a comparable level of security by using an encrypted drive image and storing it offline in a USB drive with a backup stored in Google Drive or some equivalent online storage facility.

Or, like I said earlier, a dual boot setup with linux on an encrypted partition (coins stored here) and windows for daily use.

^ On the other hand there is a distro (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qubes_OS) which achieves security through different layers of virtualization, I don't know maybe I am not that well informed Cheesy

Was the PC on Windows?
Yes, soon to be resolved.  Well, I need to have windows for work but I'll work something out.

Try https://www.virtualbox.org/ on your linux pc.  You can create a small windows setup for work stuff.

Cheers, hadn't thought about doing it that way round.

Having said that, I've got vmplayer installed with a few linux distros for testing purposes so probably not a huge leap in imagination required!

Eset has a file called "Bitcoin Stealer" in quarantine.  It was quarantined not long after I had my Bitcoins stolen.  Threat is called MSIL/TrojanDownloader.Agent.ZU

Using a virtual machine is not that safer due to Host OS - Guest OS communication.
Better setup a dual boot

Can you elaborate?  I'd think running a VM and NATing through would be reasonably safe?

Sorry maybe I sounded a bit arrogant - it wasnt my intention - but as far as I know there are still plenty of guest-to-host code execution exploit.
You are in some way exposing your host, I'd rather avoid it unless there is an ultimate hardening guide for your virtual machine.

A possible workaround for windows users is a dual boot solution:
-install a  luks encrypted linux distro.
-move your 1000DRKs on the linux wallet.
-use windows daily
-never use linux, only for system security updates and MN updates.

*The 2 OSs will not be communicating

ok, probably a stupid question, but what is the supply?

the ann says 31Mill coins, the wallet too, coinmarketcap says 7 Million or so. Is there some story I didnt find?

Current total supply is 7,888,847 EXCL .

I told you guys this guy can code  Cool  He's going to do amazing things with Spreadcoin.

Lets keep this thread on track with Darkcoin. Bugs and fixes, fine, everything else, keep in respective threads. Too many times people use this thread to gain exposure to other coins since it is one (if not the longest) of the most active altcoin thread on BCT.

Sorry about that.  Since Spreadcoin uses DRK code as its core and the dev found an important vulnerability, I thought it was appropriate.  I'll be more careful with my choice of posts in the future.

I think a new developer would be better served joining the Darkcoin community and helping to take DRK from 2USD to 50USD than starting a clone from scratch.

This doesn't really make much sense in my opinion. "Cloning" is one of the beauties of an open-source technology.
915  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SuperNET asset 12071612744977229797, trading symbol UNITY on: December 13, 2014, 03:02:27 PM
Hi, I am holding unity on bter and want get them out of the exchange. Is there a wallet available to store them off line?

You need a NXT wallet. You can download the superNet NXT wallet at multigateway.com.

If you want to use an web based wallet that deals with assets there is trade.secureae.com.

There are two other web based NXT wallets, but I don't think either one supports assets yet.

What is the difference between the NXT wallet and superNet NXT wallet?

The superNET wallet has adds the mgw, coinoMat, asset dividends and of course, once it is in place the superNet features which are still in progress. I think there's one other thing I don't recall right now.

Can the normal NXT wallet receive superNET dividends?

Yes.

When you can a chance guys check out http://www.supernet.org we are turning the site into a multilingual not just a google translator anymore but actually people translating the site. Chinese is almost finished, next will be German, then spanish, then Italian and many more volunteering.

I can handle the italian translation, PM me if interested.
917  Economy / Speculation / Re: What do you think Bitcoin will be worth in a year? on: December 12, 2014, 04:10:38 AM
500$-800$ in my opinion.

How would you handle with the trust part if you were hosting a MN between several participants?
Where would you store the DRKs?

Well, considering you can't have separate vins, but need one vin containing the full 1000, someone will have to be in charge of all the funds. To make things fair, you're looking at having a 3rd party escrow all the funds (Mangled Blue comes to mind).

Thank you sir!

Donated a bit, I feel pretty confident about EXCL.
