901  Economy / Speculation / Re: Dropping to $350, do not buy in any dead cat bounces on: August 19, 2014, 10:04:33 PM
Just curious, how many the sky is falling threads did you start exactly? I've already seen 3 but I have a feeling there is more.

There are at least six.

Think about the cheap coins!! He's good for buyers.
902  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How would you store >100 Bitcoins? on: August 06, 2014, 05:31:02 AM
BIP38 is hard to bruteforce currently. I'd use PGP.
I would do multisigs + paperwallets.
903  Other / Meta / Re: It's this stupid shit that pisses me off. on: August 04, 2014, 06:42:15 AM
Is bumping an old dead thread breaking the rule?
Should we report such kind of post when we find one?

Bumping old thread is not breaking a rule itself, though in most cases it may be. FWIW I've seen some pretty golden necrobumbs (especially speculation threads from 2011/2012 are good.)

Maybe those +1/happybirthday -nonsenseposts are indeed due to the advertisement signatures and/or to make the account eligible to join them.
904  Other / Meta / Re: Time to Move Bitcoin 2.0 tech (Counterparty/Mastercoin) out of "Alt Coins" on: August 04, 2014, 06:39:03 AM
Noob question for sure.

If a coin or protocol isn't Bitcoin, then by definition isn't it an "Alternative Currency" ?

Is Mastercoin or Counter Party, Bitcoin?

~BCX~

"Alternative Currency" is a bit hard to define. Maybe every non-mainstream currency is alternative currency?
Altcoins are alternative to Bitcoin - they're based on Bitcoin.
905  Other / Meta / Re: Time to Move Bitcoin 2.0 tech (Counterparty/Mastercoin) out of "Alt Coins" on: August 04, 2014, 06:33:04 AM
If altcoins such as Counterparty and Mastercoin don't like being in the "AltCoin cesspool", their users are welcome to create their own forum.

No need to clutter up bitcointalk with counterpartytalk and/or mastercointalk.

I would agree, except neither of them really are so large yet to be able to support their own forum successfully in a proactive way. What if there were a "Bitcoin 2.0" section on it's own, separate from the Alt-coin section. The problem being the Alt-Coin section is that it's just so much crap it's impossible to see the forest for the tree's. It's a nightmare and it impedes these projects ability to connect with other bitcoin 2.0 interested people.

There are so many fascinating Bitcoin 2.0 technologies coming out that should still be kept under the Bitcointalk umbrella. If overstock for example does go through with a stock offering using Bitcoin, it's going to be through one of these Bitcoin 2.0 technologies. Why not keep that discussion here?

Bitcoin 2.0 Technologies are core future features of bitcoin- however they shape up to be implemented and they will serve to make bitcoin much, much, stronger if they succeed.

As for what is considered Bitcoin 2.0 Technologies- i would argue it's anything built off the Bitcoin Blockchain. If it starts with Bitcoin, it's Bitcoin. If it doesn't start with Bitcoin, then it isn't. Tree-chains, side-chains themselves might be a bit blurry as to where they fit, but they should still fit under the Bitcointalk umbrella. What Bitcoin does and Bitcoin 2.0 Techs do, has repercussions for both parties, they should be able to open discuss here.

Hilighted the important parts. For example: We've not even seen Ethereum working. Just words about how Ethereum supports everything.

Also, I support what ForgottenPassword said in this thread.

How much $ per moneypak is loaded?
907  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What the #@!$ is going on ?! on: August 03, 2014, 11:58:51 AM
There are some solutions being developed... People could help the process by testing the code. So if you want to help, one way is to start testing and reporting. Check out https://bitcoin.org/en/development

A valid reason would be if your Bitcoin wallet was hacked and you feel a file you downloaded is to blame.
This sentence in the thread starter post makes these kind of thefts sound so 'everyday stuff.' I wouldn't want newbies to think that wallet-stealing is 'normal' stuff here.

Yes you have to wait some time between the posts. This is to make spamming harder..
912  Economy / Speculation / Re: GABI to start trading on 9/1 on: August 01, 2014, 05:21:27 AM
they've had heavy interest and are expecting $200MM under management in a year's time.

Is the $200MM pure speculation by them or do they have confirmed some amount?
913  Economy / Goods / Re: 🌟🌟 Bitcoin Shirts! | 20+ available! | $25 each 🎁 🌟 on: July 31, 2014, 02:55:29 PM
Cool looking shirts.. Gotta consider buying one. Shipping to EU?
914  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency on: July 31, 2014, 02:54:33 PM
Is there some group dedicated on developing monero-based services? Is there a development team working to make Monero significant?
915  Economy / Speculation / Re: Good News but Price drops ? on: July 31, 2014, 01:29:08 PM
I guess the biggest factor in the price movement currently is 'the miners.' Remember that they have to pay for electricity (maybe at least a third of mined bitcoins need to be sold for this cost.) Approx 25 bitcoins per 10 minutes, including difficulty increasement.. I'd say about 4000 bitcoins are being generated every day. Over 1000 bitcoins need to be sold. Everyday there must be at least this much buying pressure too.

Also we should remember that most bitcoin-accepters really just exchange the bitcoins straight to fiat currency. This makes a lot selling pressure.. Every day.

Can we use ripple for deposits or withdrawals? such as bitstamp and lakebtc
Not sure that I understood correctly, what did you mean by "ripple"?

He means 'Ripple network', a system developed by Ripple Labs. Check out https://ripple.com. It's a bit complex system but very useful if used correctly.
917  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTS] Selling the following items for BTC- Will do Escrow if requested ! on: July 31, 2014, 11:44:18 AM
Shipping from EU? Nvm you seem to have mentioned USPS.. How much shipping to EU?

How much for the item #2 (lcd+keypad)?
$40 @ coinbase rate during time of sale, S&H included inside the US. Not sure what it would be to ship the the EU but the USPS website is saying about $25 for a small priority lat rate box.

So total would be $65 paid at coinbase rate during time of sale / agreement which right now would be 0.11543860

Sorry but that seems to be a little too much since Adafruit sells these for less than $25. (http://www.adafruit.com/products/1110)
Mine's pre-assembled and working. Their's is a kit oen can easily screw up and get a failed product assuming one even receives 100% working parts.

Looking at base value of $40, the extra $15 is time / labor plus included S&H when inside the US so on that basis it's fair market value.

OK.. Sounds reasonable. Though the US->EU shipping cost makes me not to buy this.. But good luck!

920  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Need your help again international transaction......:) on: July 31, 2014, 10:32:25 AM
Try checking if you have local bitcoin sellers in your area. You could then discuss with the receiver of the funds whether you can send him bitcoins. The receiver can keep the funds in bitcoins or exchange them to fiat currency (again via LocalBitcoins, some exchange or maybe some other OTC-way.)

There are fees also involved here (exchanging btc<->fiat and bitcoin transaction fee (0.0001 btc most likely.))
