Nope. This will be a HUGE mistake if done. One can source 10-20-50 PSUs, but how about a few thousand of PSUs?

We're out of stock on the SP35.

So next gen soon?
Use a built in psu that's common like the dps2000, and ship without them? let us buy our own, Big savings there Smiley
+1/ plus, having the users install the PSU makes troubleshooting more difficult since right now SP-T can verify that the SP3x units are shipping with a working PSU and act as inended. allowing users to dump used PSUs into the unit opens up a big margin for error

also, the DPS2000 would be tough, since its airflow goes ACROSS the PSU, rather than down its legth like the current artesyn/emerson/murata PSU style.

anyways, the PSUs SP-T is using are basically common-slot already. This is visible from the fact that they have multiple power ratings and brand names to choose from when assembling and shipping the SP3x series

i tried running "

Code:
sudo apt-get install build-essential
./configure --without-ckdb
make
" but got a whole wackload of errors.

really need an ELI5 on this it seems

./configure --without-ckdb

"-bash: ./configure: No such file or directory"

I guess I have to spell it out. You are building from git, there are extra instructions.

so i figured out how to download the .git, autogen/configure/make/make install it so that theres a directory ckpool
i put my settings into the files: ckproxy, ckpool
now what? how do i run it, and set it up to run at boot?

i tried sudo ckpool in the src directory but go back "No bitcoinds active" and often get a warning about a JSON error w/ ckpool.conf
903  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Anyone used a 8 PIN CPU to PCIe converter? on: February 11, 2015, 03:43:26 PM
There's a point you're all completely missing.  CPU connectors for the motherboard are 4 pin or 8 pin.  PCI-E power connectors are for graphics card and are either 6 or 8 pin.  The 8 pin CPU and 8 pin GPU connectors have completely different wire arrangements and different shaped plastic housing.  They are not compatible with each other.

typically these have 4x12V and 4xGND from the EPS that combine into a 6pin PCIe connector. problem is they are oftem made with thin wires
904  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] - Toronto/Montreal - Spondoolies-Tech SP31 units, shipped from colocation on: February 11, 2015, 03:42:07 PM
I just ordered 6 SP20 direct from them, for $3050 CAD.
That's nearly 10T/Hash

So I'd agree $1500-1700 is about all he is going to see, and that's CAD.
Especially for used gear, which could of been run over clocked for the last how many months.

you're talking about 10TH/7kw (wall) though.  The Sp31 performs around 4.7-4.9TH/2.8-3.0kW (wall) so is noticably more efficient, and as mentioned includes a pair of high-end server power supplies.

I'm open to offers, but the price wont be as low as your $1500-1700 cad - sorry

The reality is used miners are like used cars.  As soon as you use them, they lose value, and you won't be able to get as much for them as you'd like.  As stated above, the hardware could be abused and in poor condition.

M

i think its actually quite different. used miners are virtually no different from new, other than successfully logging weeks or months of use without issues. There might be a bit of dust inside that a new miner wont have, but otherwise its the same product. I understand these wont sell for more than a new unit, but dont expect them to be at clearance prices

I've gotten these before, solid.
I'm an aircraft electrician, so figured, I'd buy the materials a nd build them. After wiring a single S3+ I said screw it, wasn't worth my time.

Wish you would offer some cooler wire Cheesy Maybe some of the UV stuff, Really pimp out the server room Wink

options like that are available - I could use wires other than black/yellow but IMO it would overly complicate things and cost a little more. In my experience most buyers are looking for 'industry-standard, professional' stuff like yellow/black wiring and black connectors though.

sleeved wiring and UV stuff should be possible, but there is an MOQ of 1000 units for most of these complex designs.

ckproxy is lightweight and very easy to setup.

Download and install your standard rpi wheezy image then follow the steps outlined in the ckpool build process to compile the application.

I just spent about two hours attempting to get a working raspbian install that has keyboard, ssh, and ethernet connection, and its driving me up the wall. [...]

What are you using those three are in the standard Raspian.  Huh
http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads/

i did the raspboian install but it doesnt seemt o network. it briefly had an ip 192.168.1.142, then couldnt access it again.

I would really love a plug-and-play sd card image

I'd like to point out you can buy brand new SP31s from the Spondoolie's site for $2,075 + shipping.

M

Yah... your prices are crazy for used sorry

hmm, well im open to offers. Im helping a friend sell them so its not me setting the price. Ive updated the OP with slightly lower prices to try and keep realistic, but considering that the SP31 is basically 4xSP20 with built-in 2500W of power supplies, being about 4.5-5x the cost of an SP20 makes sense

does anybody have an image of a working SD card with a stratum proxy functionality - or at least a fully-installed OS? installing from scratch in linux isnt my strong suit.
912  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: February 10, 2015, 11:23:48 PM
Lets make things interesting by calculating an average of 3-4% diff jumps every 13 days @ .11 kw/hr.  Mined btc drops by 40% in 90 days.

those diff jumps will grind to a halt quickly though. unless the price pushes past $250 its unlikely difficulty will exceed 55B until the next generation of hardware is available.

once spring comes and things warm u, a lot of home miners have to sell or turn off gear to keep cool and save money when summer electricity rates begin
913  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: February 10, 2015, 09:34:27 PM
^its all a risk.

IME, most colocations are >$100/kw/month in USD and thats pretty expensive, about $0.15/kwh and often taxed.

however, the good ones (<$85/kw/mos +tax) are still quite reasonable and products like th SP3X are great there. The Sp31 provides about 4.7TH/3kW (at the wall) and can even do 3.5TH/1.75kW (wall) for fuller racks

For sale:

I can supply SP31 units that are currently hosted in Montreal,QC for $1850 USD+shipping (cheaper if you want more than one). At low power these can be acceptable for home use, but anything over 75% PSU load they start getting loud. (at about 65% load they are similar to an SP20 at 20-25% fan speed)

I can probably even sell the colocation slot to you (you buy the miner and take over the colocation (its about $100/kw/month + tax))

1/$1850
2/$3600 ($1800 ea)
4/$7100 ($1750 ea)
7/$11,900 ($1700 ea)
prices are in USD
right now 7 units are available

Units ship from Montreal, and pickup in montreal or toronto can likely be arranged.

is volume a concern?

I can supply you with SP31 units that are currently hosted in montreal, $2400 CAD+shipping (cheaper if you want more than one). but anything over 75% PSU load they are loud for home use. (at about 60% load they are similar to an SP20 at 20-25% fan speed)

916  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Antminer S5 or SpondooliesTech SP20 to order - few questions on: February 10, 2015, 04:26:27 PM
There is a copper base plate, but it is connected to the aluminum heat sink by a layer of thermal compound, without any mechanical binding, this defeated the purpose of that material

Are those heat-sinks fairly "standard" ? Is it possible to buy higher quality replacements that might work in the SP20's ?

its possible, but not even remotely worth it.

16x heatsinks = $25 if you get a bargain
time spent opening a case, melting the glue holding down the curent heatsinks = 1hr, voided warrenty, likely at least 1 cracked or snapped component
time spend properly cleaning, pasting, and applying a new heatsink to the chips then re-assembling = 2hrs

if you are lucky and do it all properly, you will either be able to reduce fans at full speed by 10-15%, or otherwise perhaps push the unit to 1800/1350W at the most extreme. Thats about a gain of 100GH/150W for the cost of 3hrs + $25.  For reference, $25 put towards the cost of a new $400 SP20 would be effectively worth 150GH/100W

if you're unlucky you will re-assemble the device and find that multiple chips no longer read due to various errors (you cracked the asic, nicked a resistor, w/e), and effectively lose a large amount of your device functionality

its not worth a mod
917  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Anyone used a 8 PIN CPU to PCIe converter? on: February 10, 2015, 04:16:22 PM
I have, no reason not to. Just make sure you don't get a shit quality adapter made of 22AWG wire.

+1+1+1

I had one burst up in flames because the wires were marked as 18awg but on post-mortem inspection were clearly 20awg or 22awg, flimsy little things.

to be honest - if you plan to use this connector because your PSU doesnt have sufficient PCIe connectors, you either need to buy some splitters (i sell 18awg MFM PCIe), or invest in a better PSU. If you're short connectors, your PSU is likely cheaply built and 80+ Bronze at the very best.
918  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: February 10, 2015, 04:12:22 PM
For the SP20, don't get PCIe connectors start to melt when you are running them? Arent they pulling 300W each?

Wasn't this a huge issue with the KNCMIners in the past and it was a fire hazard.

If ur using a quality PSU the gauge of the wire will be large enough to allow around 300-350w. Also the PCIe 6pin connectors are rated by molex up to 23A, for 12v thats 276w ... so yeah the 288w setting on SP20 is pushing it. I think most electronics ur allowed a 10% delta far as safety goes. So, that gives u up to 305w safely on a 6pin PCIe connector.

tbh, a lot of quality PSUs wont be safe at 300W+. My EVGA 1300 G2 wires get uncomfortably warm when anything over 240W is drawn over them. Im sure they could handle 260-280, but 300W might be dangerous. Part of the problem is that the wires are sheathed, which doesnt allow them to cool as easily as open wires.

my 1200W PSU (corsair?) also gets quite hot PCIe cables over 240W/ea, and they are not sheathed. My guess is they could start failing around 280W
919  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Unofficial Spondoolies SP20 thread on: February 10, 2015, 05:51:30 AM
I have 6 of these incoming!
Plan to run them off the 2000W server PSU.

I have 4 psu.
that leaves me 1333 Watts per machine to play with.
Not to mention a bit of overload on these little guy's Wink

I pay 5.5 cents USD for power.. So I'm less worried about power consumption. More interested in higher TH.

Thoughts on the best setup?

Thank You

Shawn

at top speeds of 1650-1700GH, youll use about 1200W per miner, so you have some headroom on the PSUs.

my guess is running at max draw is ideal for your cheap power (assuming 5.5c/kwh includes all the delivery and regulatory extra charges), otherwise 1600GH/1080W should eb possible and is a bit more efficient
920  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - carrier grade, data center ready mining rigs on: February 10, 2015, 05:42:16 AM
Please explain, WHY are we still using PCIe connectors?

Why not give terminal points, insert wire and secure, Let me run 8awg wire straight in, less wire.

Time we move away from crappy pcie Smiley

i agree in part, but then home user would need to cut wires or buy some sort of pcie->8awg adapters

the pcie connector is a good standard and easily clips/unclips. and if you are doing server supplies, you can buy them from me for <$2/ea in bulk with 24" length and quality 16awg wires
