9041  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Is this a great idea or is it stupid and been talked about before? on: June 11, 2013, 05:03:53 AM
Someone here did... I don't remember where the post was though. They have a lot of video cards in it.

I don't get how that works though. Is it using special oil?

you can use baby oil but not all oils because you dont want stuff to grow in it like it would in vegie oil

babie oil cost a bit but has to be cheaper then $30 a pop for a waterblock and the power needed to power it

and i would love to see a vid or a pic of someone with a serious rig in oil tanks it would be epic

i wonder how much power a small refrigerator element would cost to run in comparison

There was someone who posted on one of the OC'ing sites (I think overclockers.net or whatever it is) where they got a P4 CPU to over 13 GHZ using oil as the coolant.

But my confusion is... oil essentially is a liquid. How does it not fry the circuits? If we put even a little water on it the entire thing would be toast.

Oil does Not conduct electricity......

Learn something new everyday. Googled and confirmed!

Thanks, lol.

Now then... what would be the method of cooling the oil? Mostly what I'm seeing online just deals with engine oil, =/
I think, if you Put your rig in A large Oil tank of about 20 litres, the surface of the tank should be Huge enough to conduct the heat to the environment

Based on what the other posts say, a radiator or something be needed. Here's a quote from the top link dwdoc posted:

"A radiator will be absolutely crucial. Otherwise you will just be making a large fryolator to fry french fries in. "

I love it... fryolator.

Read up on the post right before mine?

read two posts above yours and then re-read the thread.

Went through the entire thread front to end. You're right. Two of you appear to have been skipped over (as your post indicates). Also checked for edits and there were none, so your complaint is legit. I apologize!

9045  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Another Free Biz Idea: A P2P Facebook replacement with Bitcoin Ads on: June 11, 2013, 04:52:55 AM
I'm just spitting these things out like watermelon seeds this week:

How about a P2P Facebook Replacement that only uses Bitcoin? - Bitcoinfinger

This idea would take a talented coder or nine, but right now the world is weary of Facebook because of the PRISM leak and its' membership was already headed south quickly for reasons of privacy... So replacing it with a totally distributed, P2P social App would be just what the doctor ordered!

The best part is that Bitcoin would be the only payment used with this app, so if a bigtime advertisers wanted to buy ad space across the whole network, he would be forced to buy the bitcoins and send them to all these millions of people!

If this thing even took a small but healthy chunk of bitcoin's business, the price of bitcoin would go stratospheric.

Enjoy!

While the theory behind this really isn't bad... the hard part is the marketing. There were tons of social networks before Facebook (or even Myspace). It's the marketing that drew people in, as well as "the right timing."

Sadly, even with all that's happening with FB and stuff, the number of people willing to move elsewhere is pretty limited. FB has become a way of life for many people and businesses, and the sole point of contact.

Umm no.. Read the thread again.  I confirmed bets, and after that I did not accept any more.  It wouldn't make sense to just accept every bet in the thread, i decided to stop after my confirmation (as good as a mutual hand shake).

9049  Other / Archival / Re: delete on: June 11, 2013, 04:44:21 AM
Seems like a government would have no problem attacking a cryptocoin then.

I've wondered about this myself. It's "safe" because it would require 51% of the hash rate to do anything, but I'd think a company like Microsoft/Apple/etc. would have the power to do that within weeks, with hardware that would blow our top ASIC's out of the water.

I've never even heard of that before. How does this work, or how do you do it?

It isn't used much as it hasn't been fully integrated into the client yet. It's only possible to do it from the API and even then it's complicated.

https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Original_Bitcoin_client/API_Calls_list

Have a look at addmultisigaddress, createmultisig

I came across this site recently that supposedly makes it easier to do this:

http://www.bitescrow.org/

Haven't tried it out yet though.

This is very useful Smiley Many companies uses solutions like this but with other currencies to ensure there corporate funds isn't fiddled with. So if the company have 3 owners, 2 of them have to give their passwords to complete a transaktion Smiley

That's a great idea. Doesn't stop two people from going rogue and splitting it though, :p.
9052  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: litecoin price on Mt gox on: June 11, 2013, 04:32:21 AM
It will increase, because it creates a "buzz" and it will get more attention. Thus, more people are willing to buy it.

This. It will go up and then back down. It's happened with every other coin so far, even if only for a short period.
9053  Other / Off-topic / Re: dot.tk on: June 11, 2013, 04:30:19 AM
All this is true, but the OP specifically said dot.tk, and I'd be rather surprised to see the registrar itself distributing malware.
Yeah, that's highly unlikely.

Yep, that's my point. The OP's company computer was probably running something that works indiscriminately, as I've seen done. That said, WOT does now make the distinction, and dot.tk itself checks out as "Trustworthy."

The other possibility is that you are running malware that is hosts-redirecting your attempt to access dot.tk, redirecting to a spoof server that does have malware on it... do you get 77.243.130.175 when you ping dot.tk?

The second is what I'd think it is -- if the issue is with visiting dot.tk itself.

They used to be a lot worse than they are now; while still used by a lot of scammers/hackers, they're not nearly as bad.

Zoophilia? That's some messed up stuff you were reading.

LOL, I'm wondering why he would be reading that as well... not that I judge or anything.
9055  Other / Off-topic / Re: funny meme i just made on: June 11, 2013, 04:21:58 AM

lol, I think what's funnier is the thought that putting criminals with other criminals will help make them change their ways.

It's like taking the troublemakers in a classroom and making them sit with the other troublemakers. All they do is feed off each other and become worse.
9056  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTC for L$ Linden Dollars on: June 11, 2013, 04:17:43 AM
If anyone is interested in trading BTC for L$ please PM me. I can provide real world US based contact info and my avatar dates to 2006. I am also affiliated to TradeLindens.com, a retail exchange operating since 2007.

Thank you.

Can I ask what the L$ are for? Like why would people want to buy them?
9057  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: New Radeon 7990 fluctuating hash rate.. on: June 11, 2013, 04:14:29 AM
Hi, so just fitted a brand new 7990 Radeon gpu... But when I use GUIMiner it seems every second the hash value is changin from 70 Mhash to 169 then 490  then to 'connecting...'  this then repeats but with different values...

Also when I log into BTC Guild my average speed is about 490Mhah, half what this card can do....

Any ideas

There are a couple things: one could be bad settings on the card itself. Are you overclocking or using stock? Another is that it could be a faulty card.

Also, if you restart the PC does it have the same issue?

I know a guy with several million who said he was investing in bitcoin -- he told me it was this morning he was going to buy, but I think it was the old misinterpretation of "this" and "next", as he was referring to "next monday".  He must be talking about June 17.  I was being secretive about this before and even placed bets, but now I'm willing to let you guys know.. yes bitcoin will be coming back up

lol, this doesn't seem fishy at all. You "know a guy" who is going to drive up prices? Alright, I'm spending my life savings right NOW!
9059  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: CGMINER start up help on: June 11, 2013, 04:11:33 AM
guy should I use cgminer or guiminer?

Either. GUIMiner is just a GUI for CGMiner so both work the same, Smiley.

Captcha solving is an easy process. Almost all automation software have captcha solving included.
There are more than a few Bot-building documents/how-tos,
every one of them I'm aware of
never mentions Captcha solving.

Why would you be so against it?
Document-retrieval concerns in the past have actually supplied software
and PAID vendors to have their customers solve Captchas.

I am not against it, I just don't think captcha's will solve the problem. Bots are on any site with or without captcha's. But as I said I will look into it and already requested our software developers for a decent anti bot system.

We have enough on our plates as it is.

I'm not sure exactly what criteria to look for, but many bigger sites have done ban waves on botters in the past (they do it in waves so you won't be able to keep up with WHEN you were flagged, making it harder to determine what it is that flagged you). May be worth trying to think of some analytical way to determine a bot from a player.

We are seriously looking into this now. We have to find a solution to keep people like this away from our site. Next time they probably won't be programmed that bad...

I sent you a pm regarding this!
