921  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Steem pyramid scheme revealed on: November 17, 2016, 10:15:17 PM
I know of something very simple Steem could do which would radically shift the investment case in the project to viable. But I am not sharing because it would be giving away one of the ideas I have for my project. But I think it is likely they will realize this simple change. So I will not waste my time powering down for $6 weekly, when there is a significant chance that Steem will get fixed and move much higher.

Steem has much more momentum than LBRY and LBRY can't scale.

DPoS can scale (although I don't think it can scale to even Medium's size). Your other choice is Ark which is DPoS.

I personally keep powering down because every week I get less and less. I also get a similar amount but next week it will be $3 and so on. And if Steem ever go back to $1-2 then I would still have some to keep selling. So it's the same argument, not powering down can generate a little more, but it's not worth it. I can invest those $6 into LBRY for example and wait for a bounce once they come out of beta (even if I agree with most of your points against it).

Not one crypto project can actually scale though, not even Ethereum which aims to be the world computer!
922  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Steem pyramid scheme revealed on: November 17, 2016, 09:44:12 PM
...everyone will be powering down forever. There's no bottom, inflation keeps piling up and it will hit 10k, then 5k, then 1k, and if it keeps going to more than 1 billion Steem supply then it will be below that, 700-500 sats, like Bitshares. Clear as water.

Inflation is slowing down (~200% now) and will reach a steady rate of 100% per year later in 2017. Bitcoin had > 100% inflation at its inception, but Bitcoin's inflation (debasement is correct term!) is slowing down to less much less than 100% by now.

That inflation doesn't apply to those who POWER UP their STEEM to STEEM POWER. The coming change is to reduce the POWER DOWN delay from 2 years (1 year weighted average) to 3 months (1.5 months weighted average).

So this means more and more speculators can join in POWER UP and not be subject to any inflation at all. However if all those who earn rewards are powering down and selling, then there will be downward selling pressure but this might be offset by speculative demand and moreover by whales becoming smart and only rewarding those who don't power down.

Sorry you really don't have all the facts.

Inflation doesn't mean much if you know the actual supply, it can effectively drive the price low for a while but not for long. For example nobody actually knows the total supply of Ethereum, it can be infinite but the inflation is not really that crazy, so people have confidence on it. "Only" 100% inflation per year without a cap is crazy if you ask me and I'm the average person who should be trading or investing on Steem.

Take Factom, it only has 8 million supply, but once M3 kicks in and federated servers are designated 73k FCT will be created per month. This isn't "crazy" inflation although it's quite considerable and that's almost one of the only factors that is keeping the price so low. Investors don't think there would be enough entry credits to burn that much FCT.

I see more potential for a bounce in a project like LBRY...

Note I have been a major critic of Steem, so I am not being subjective here w.r.t to a comparison of Steem to LBRY. I don't care if my measily 5000 STEEM POWER ever get cashed out at anything significant, as I have bigger fish to fry (that is small potatoes for me).

Ahem you haven't read this thread...

LBRY intends to compete but I don't see what they have that is compelling:

DOA. Not paid to join. Referral programs can be Sybil attacked:

https://lbry.io/faq/referrals

Right there it tells me they don't appear to know what they are doing.

$1.2 billion marketcap? Why not listed on coinmarketcap? And what is the sign up rate (2000? but are those Sybil accounts)? Sounds like BS to me.

Can't find any info on how they plan to scale a PoW blockchain  Huh It is proof-of-work I presume since they talk about ongoing token issuance.

No white paper!

Edit: it is based on Bitcoin block chain so I don't see how it can scale:

https://lbry.io/news/5-questions-about-lbry

Perhaps they are not putting most of the activity on the blockchain. Perhaps they are putting only the tokens on the blockchain. Even so, it won't scale!

Ah they don't have a clue about social networking. Users change names like the wind. Names are not as important as the connections or links.

https://github.com/lbryio/lbrycrd

Edit#2: they are praying for the arrival and correct functioning of Lightning Networks:

https://lbry.io/news/why-doesnt-lbry-just-use-bitcoin

Edit#3: they do plan to give away tokens and have a HUGE premine:

Quote from: https://lbry.io/news/$1.2b-market-cap-we-dont-care
Currently, 250 thousand LBRY credits (LBC) are in circulation. Over the next year, that number will rise to roughly 80 million just through mining. LBRY Inc. has reserved 200 million for adoption programs, and we intend to deploy them widely over the coming years to give millions of users their first taste of a truly free market in media. There’s also another 200 million LBC split between a company reserve and charitable/institutional programs that might stay static for a while, but not forever.

I didn't say it was perfect, I said it could definitely bounce from this bottom. It can still go to 1k or lower though. The point is, crypto is all hype and once LBRY opens up to the public I think it will rally just on news and exclusive releases alone, it has that cool kid factor in my opinion.

I do have the same doubts as you but the team is well connected in the industry and is backed by a huge VC firm (funded and built TripAdvisor, DraftKings among others...). They have been very open about the premine and how it will be used. Now will all that being said, I think they are a little incompetent and naive on how they've been doing things so far. I really not see any corruption or morally dubious approach in their doings, quite the contrary they've managed to "lose" a lot of money with this strategy and mining distribution.

...There may be a spike I'm not denying that but unless the whole thing changes and develop some killer features this is doomed.

Steem itself is the "killer" feature.  It is by no means perfect however attracts an audience outside of the crypto space.  Steem can expand beyond simple blogging.

-Investigative stories/news going back to individuals who can be rewarded for their work.
-DIY forums where users can be rewarded for their help to others.
-Why own a website that rely's on ad's for revenue anymore?  Post solid content and get rewarded.
-Online censorship issues.

Steem is just a beta version and it will be interesting to see where this goes.  Blockchains will not solve all issues however the concept of Steem can find a niche.

The dev's don't seem to be standing still either: https://github.com/steemit/steem/commits/develop

You can say that just about any other crypto project (social media oriented or not). Steem only managed to attract attention because of those gimmicky payouts, now it's a wasteland and it will continue to be so. I see more potential for a bounce in a project like LBRY than Steem if that's the case because you would actually need lbry credits to purchase content.

Many of you are just wishful thinking, if Steemit do this or that or implement such feature. The bottomline is that it's still a circle jerk, everyone will be powering down forever. There's no bottom, inflation keeps piling up and it will hit 10k, then 5k, then 1k, and if it keeps going to more than 1 billion Steem supply then it will be below that, 700-500 sats, like Bitshares. Clear as water.
926  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Steem pyramid scheme revealed on: November 17, 2016, 07:48:30 PM
What's the value in Steem as a currency compared to the other hundreds of other options that already scale better than Bitcoin?

What scales better than Bitcoin and has a reasonable level of seed adoption already?

(And has potential upside as a data storage blockchain)

I don't see anything of value in owning Steem or Steem Power unless I'm missing some recent news. Will they implement a cap like with Bitshares?

Perhaps because you believe technological lies such as Dash InstantX being secure and scaling? Or you believe the lie that Monero's blocksize adjustment algorithm isn't also a Tragedy of the Commons same as Bitcoin?

(when I speak such truths, I get despised by the proponents of those projects, so I don't repeat that often anymore, but it doesn't mean my technical point was vacated)

I'm sorry, I don't understand many technical aspects and from your comments here you are way more adept than most trolls in this board. With that being said, while I don't hold (and actually dislike) both Dash and Monero, those are just as valid if not more battle tested than Steem.

I'm not sure how many actual active users are on Steem, but I doubt there are more than 5k right now, that's nothing in my opinion. I'm on Steemit and I just go to power down weekly (never bought a single Steem, I got paid for some posts early on). So I'm not an active user but I'm sure they count me as one. The hype is already gone, there could be a spike in prices but never like when it started, the whole gimmicky 10-30k payouts was the only reason of its success and interest from people. You take that away you have nothing in terms of fundamentals.

Fund managers like the guy from coinfund.io got burned, very smart people with degrees made an ass of themselves. There may be a spike I'm not denying that but unless the whole thing changes and develop some killer features this is doomed.
927  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Steem pyramid scheme revealed on: November 17, 2016, 07:05:51 PM
@mtnsaa, perhaps you missed the key points:

  • Bitcoin's scalepocalypse is insoluble.
  • Steem scales better (though there will be issues eventually but not near-term).
  • Steem's inflation will apparently soon be on par with Bitcoin's at the same junction in their comparative histories.

Speculators buy value low, sell high on the dump to those who are late. Don't be late.

The onboarding and blogging crap is just (for now at least, with unfathomable potential upside if new paradigms are experimented) some promotional hype noise icing on the cake. Focus on the currency itself.

What's the value in Steem as a currency compared to the other hundreds of other options that already scale better than Bitcoin? I don't see anything of value in owning Steem or Steem Power unless I'm missing some recent news. Will they implement a cap like with Bitshares?
928  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Steem pyramid scheme revealed on: November 17, 2016, 05:30:55 PM
I don't have any speculation capital right now

I never had any "speculation capital" in my whole life.  It must be like that "disposable income" that you 1% 'ers have that everyone else on the planet has never experienced.  This is why STEEM is the first digital currency that benefits its users more than its early speculators because it is the first digital currency that encourages newbies to earn it (by performing some useful work for the commnity) instead of buying it.

That's the most stupid (or genius) idea I've ever read in my life. Let's all earn some Steem while idiots buy and pay for our ramblings, haha. These guys created the perfect ponzi scheme and you can't really accuse them of anything because they will keep it going as long as people keep buying Steem. They won't run away and they will even implement new features and changes to tweak it and give the users the false sense that they are improving the system. I'm sure that this was the plan all along.

The bottomline is that, as long as there's people buying Steem the platform will stay alive. "Speculators" are catching up slowly though (they seem to have discovered the zoom all feature at Poloniex!).

I do all this stuff but my ant not show in wallet yet..two week it is very long time. Why?

If you already claimed your ANS then you can check the balance of your address on antcha.in, if they are there then everything is okay, your wallet just needs to sync. Here are posts by kampretkabur and CjMapope which explain what to do if you are using a desktop wallet: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1571738.msg16885522#msg16885522.

Again, I can see my balance at antcha.in just fine but even with a synced wallet I can't see anything there. No balance, send/receive option, etc. I've already imported the private key for the address. I'm using a mac with chrome and safari (tried both without any success).

NDA just for an exchange addition?  I find that odd...............................
Is there a valid reason for this or just smoke/mirrors from the devs???

From what I've heard this is how it's always done when an exchange adds a new addition.

Nobody can force you to sign an NDA ... what do you think, Polo guys threaten the dev's if they don't sign and NDA they will not list ICN ?
Really ?

I know, it's funny that Polo makes them sign a NDA not to say if their listing ICN or not. Is it me or does that hint to insider trading? Polo buys up ICN and when ready lists it and dumps it's ICN for instant profit along with fees. Find it stupid to have a NDA for a coin being on an exchange, I find it funny that people sign NDAs in crypto, or sign anything for that matter in the Crypto world..

Don't quote me on this but this recent pump must be Bittrex or Poloniex getting ready to list it. Honestly I'm not sure why Bittrex (which list almost any shitcoin the minute it is available) hasn't list Iconomi yet (which is quite the opposite). Actually Kraken is one of the most prestigious and hardest to get in.

The reason they signed a NDA is because they have nothing to lose and that was the requirement from that particular exchange, I don't see it as a big deal. Really if Kraken listed then all doubts are nonsense in my opinion and it's just a matter of time. I'm not sure what they are waiting for though, especially Bittrex. Poloniex hardly adds anything lately.

LOL, that's not how it works man. The guys fully agreed to sign a NDA before exchanges consider to add Iconomi or discuss any details. They can't say anything until a deal is made or not. This is just standard for companies so people, companies, clients don't spread sensitive information about proceeds, requirements, etc. You can't even disclose there was deal signed, how, when, etc, depending on the NDA.
932  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][rICO]Antshares Blockchain Mainnet is ONLINE! on: November 15, 2016, 05:58:09 PM
Same thing here except that the wallet already synched but nothing really happens after that.

I haven't tried the web wallet, I see a column named Asset, maybe you can find info about your ANS there, but that is just a very wild guess.

It seems that rebulding/repairing the database is a must right now on first attempt to receive the claimed ans, a long as your balance is showing on the explorer. Create new wallet-import the privkey-close, then reopen (check the rebuild/repair menu when entering the pass) the previously created wallet database with the imported privkey from ICO/bounty should do the trick, it did for me. But i dont see this option on the web wallet. Hope it helps, dint know with MAC though

o nice! my method has been:

1: fresh sync from block one with NO wallet imported
2: create wallet, import key to it
3: "rebuild database" with wallet loaded and full synced.
4: Poof, TX appears! (and they usually have between 40k-90k confirms, so it's def a bug :/ )

Thank you guys for the how-tos Smiley. I may try one of them (or both) once my wallet syncs Wink.

I don't see any rebuild database option, my wallet is synced but I don't see any balance, send/receive option, nothing, just like it was when it was not synced. There's nothing under assets either (there shouldn't be anything there though).

All my ICN tokens are in myetherwallet and will be there till it goes above $10. And why would anyone want to sell, this is the only investment that will pay while you are holding it and the value will go up of the token. we are all share holders a of a company. I wanna bet my left nut this is hitting a $1 by the end of the year easy.

uberisation of fund management !!!! fuck the last thing i want is an instant pump, that is dangerous with people who want to dump. gradual increase and people buying up with less people willing to sell and hoolding for dividends profits will take this to fucking pluto!

Yes, if all goes according to plan, $1 should be a nobrainer really. It will take time to consolidate around that but even with some small dividends that should be priced in around that.

If Iconomi really becomes successful, like half of eToro/Poloniex then most of us I think could get a nice passive income, even with "just" 1k ICN which is nothing considering current prices. But like ETH, if you wait until it's worth $10 you are not really "investing", you can get some profits of course, ETH could be valued above $100 in 2017-18 for all we know but the ones holding from ICO and accesible prices are the ones that will really make some profits unless you have very deep pockets.

Anyway, the hype and price will be closely tied to dividends (or potential dividends), P/E is something foreign to crypto projects.

Bittrex prices are not updating for the last couple of days, not sure if this is a problem from my end or it's being resolved. Please let me know what I can do if that's the case.

Thanks for letting us know! We were experiencing some issues earlier, but Bittrex should be back online now.

Perfect, issue went away after some minutes of posting that message, I know some Bittrex wallets were under maintenance too so I thought that was a factor too. Are you guys planning to add the total positions/combined percentage soon? I would love to have that feature and it would be really useful. Can't think of anything else in terms of functionality.

I would love some updated UI with material design for Android and iOS 10 but it still looks great if that's not a priority.

Thanks, have you managed to send/ recieve antshares?

You are welcome. I claimed my ANS, and I can see them on my address on the block explorer antcha.in, however I'm still waiting for the wallet to finish syncing before trying to import my private key (this'll probably take some time).

Same thing here except that the wallet already synched but nothing really happens after that.

938  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH price soaring. Are you going to move some BTC into ETH? on: November 14, 2016, 07:10:34 PM
As  i  observe on eth  too  it stabilizes  its price somewhere  on  10-10.5$ which  is   low  already compared to  its previous price  of $15 each  but  still  its  high  though. Same as  others think  here  this is the  lowest  price of   eth  thats why  its  ideal to  buy  more eth  now   and  i think  this coin would  really have a good  potential  on   longer terms  just  like what  happen on  bitcoin  when  it was just starting.

If the ZCash price stablise in the $10 range, it means the initial investors into the ZCash developer company will lose money.

I feel the same way, ETH could still go lower but you are pushing your luck, this is the time to buy before there is any sort of big announcement. It didn't dip below $10, just temporarily. Hey I would love to get it below $5 but that's not gonna happen unless there are devastating news (like actual devastating, much more than a fork/hack like the DAO!).

The price in terms of BTC is a steal too, which was in pump mode for the last month like I called it. Bitcoin won't cross $800 price anytime, every year it appreciates a little but people expecting 1, 5 or 10k per Bitcoin now are deluded.

BTC will level out at $650 or so, it's way oversold already and if the stock market continues to be bullish we'll see it drop along with gold.

Is Ethereum going to hard fork again? If the next hard fork can solve many problems, the price could rise.

Yes a new hard fork is in the works, I don't know much about the details but it will be a major update not just some hotfixes against recent attacks. I think they will add functionality for Swarm which is Ethereum decentralized storage solution, so this could be another milestone depending how it goes.
939  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] SINGULARDTV (ETHEREUM) - Launch Completed! on: November 14, 2016, 02:19:00 PM
Sometimes the key is patience. I have bought during the ICO and bought some tokens at 1300-1500 sat range.
This is the  accumulating phase  Cool

This is the time to fill your bags really, nothing has changed and the project has been financed, they are working on it guys and it's a well respected team. Ethereum troubles has plagued all tokens but if you believe in the ecosystem and future there's no better time to buy (either ETH or SNGLs). SNGLS especially are very undervalued in my opinion, it costs almost nothing to get 100k of them and that's a very good share of the whole "company" and project if you think about it. Especially considering you are getting actual equity with dividends.

I'm personally very interested for them to invest in UJO Music. There are a lot of well connected people on both teams and they can really make some waves.
You but its a long term investment, and most people in crypto space dont have the patience for that.

Iirc it will take about 2 years before the full platform is released.
In a recent article that was published Zach it would take 5-10 years to change the industry.

That means that it could take 10 years before it reaches full potential.

It doesnt mean that that it will take 10 years to make a profit, but at least until the beta starts, you are unlikely to see huge gains.

If you have the patience, it does have the potential to be a great investment. Imagine owning just 0.01% (same as 100k SNGLS) of Netflix, that is rougly $330K.

Yes but the same can be said just about of any other crypto related project, even Bitcoin. Not one of them is used by the mainstream, either individuals or big companies. It's all based on potential and hype and if SingularDTV and UJO start "disrupting" the music and entertainment industry in the next upcoming years, the potential alone will make it very enticing.

As of now there are no better options in this niche and technology available so I think it's wise to invest a little long term. Ethereum projects are well established and if decentralized and blockchain based economy is bound for success then we are at the right place.

Regarding short term, I think after some average news and development the price will reach ICO price again. Again, the whole Ethereum ecosystem is in a bear market with plenty of doubt and uncertainty regarding attacks and forks. I personally try to invest during these times and consider taking some profits later on... Cool
