941  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: August 10, 2015, 06:35:54 PM
Thermos has been down voted into the ground on reddit for his behavior.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/3gdad5/meta_on_hardforking_if_bitcoin_is_so_vulnerable/ctx6rgs

In another post he claims that consensus has not been achieved simply because Greg Peter and luke Jr do not agree and that is enough to out vote Gavin and mike. How seriously fucked up is that view.

I say XT should do away with waiting for 75% now, and simply fork at some block 3 months out and let people pick the vision they want to support. In the end the ecosystem will gravitate to one winner.

After checking he actually says "Wladamir, Greg, and Pieter are opposed to it". But yeah nice try of you to throw LukeJr in there  Wink

PS. I expected you to be above the all too common argumentum ad populum found amongst Gavinistas.

For future reference here's a post I digged up from reddit today that sums up well the idiocy behind juvenile comments such as "Thermos has been down voted into the ground on reddit"

Oh and btw good luck and have fun with your XTcoin

OK my memory on the names was wrong, who cares, that doesn't change the point that his fundamental sentiment is that bitcoin is decided by a small group of people, which is horrible.

That post you included above is utter nonsense as a reply. Thermos being downvoted into the ground is valid to point out because it demonstrates just how much the community disagrees.

And that is the thing you don't seem to understand, bitcoin is a community defined construct, it is whatever its users want it to be. Is is not defined by a FOMC like entity.

Thank you I will enjoy my bitcoin with millions of other users, you enjoy you blockstream fork away from satoshi's vision that we all signed up for.

Excellent points.

Bitcoin is at an interesting impasse. I think those in favour of small blocks will force a fork of bitcoin which ironically creates a new chain which instead of becoming 'gavincoin' or 'xt coin' simply becomes bitcoin. This will render the original Core chain worthless overnight, when payment processors and exchanges etc follow the money and investment funding the ecosystem.

To average joe there probably won't be anything to even notice other than price volatility.

Either that or keeping bitcoin crippled for non-technical reasons will mark the point of decline in market capitalisation of the bitcoin chain compared with alternate chain(s). One can imagine value flowing from bitcoin to a successor which scales to the needs of the businesses and users in the ecosystem rather than a small cabal of programmers. I am reminded of the Ernest Hemingway quote about how he went bankrupt. ('Two ways. Gradually and then suddenly'.) It isn't a stretch to see a similar thing happen with bitcoin.

Well, i upgraded my node to XT. That is how you vote in a decentralized system.
942  Economy / Speculation / Re: Parabolic rise has begun on: August 10, 2015, 05:51:27 PM
OP where do we stand now?

I think it's time to raise stakes. The parabolic rise has either stopped or will turn out to be bigger than ever seen before. Since it has been predicted that a global financial crash will most likely hit us in September 2015, it gives basis to the assumption that BTC will skyrocket hard. Puerto Rico has already gone bankrupt, China is controlling their markets like a bitch, Greece is still knee deep in shit. Does not look good for the fiat world at all. 200-300 range is still a great deal to buy in.

But the main question is, how will Bitcoin behave against a rising dollar?
943  Economy / Speculation / Re: PnF TA on: August 09, 2015, 08:57:15 PM
There are still people left who look at bitfinex fake walls ? It's just one whale who makes always the same moves.
Sadly there are...

Bitfinex walls back up. Tongue
944  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is crashing. Why? :( on: August 09, 2015, 01:03:01 PM
I don't know what happened in just 4 days and the rate has just declined. I have just had a loss of about $0.6 as the amount I have is less but it must be even more who are saving their bitcoins. It's seriously not a good sign.

Bitcoin lost 5,5% in value in the last 24 hours. That means you have 11.4 $ in bitcoins. Math, wow. Smiley
945  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is crashing. Why? :( on: August 09, 2015, 12:44:26 PM
People are selling their BTC that they made of ethereum while they are still ahead.. If you look at the ether volume it is no coincidence that there is a lot of sell pressure on bitcoin. (probably some big holders cashing out).

I just don't understand why people are buying ethereum for a higher price than the ipo price of 2000 ether per bitcoin. So many dumb people in this market.
946  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 08, 2015, 12:11:41 PM
Volume? Volatility? Anything?

And after 2 miles suddenly a wild dump appears. Tongue

There are still people left who look at bitfinex fake walls ? It's just one whale who makes always the same moves.

Edit: You can even see him right now taking out walls just to scare weak hands. I could see walls all the way down to 80$ on bitfinex. Yeah, scary as hell. Roll Eyes
948  Economy / Speculation / Re: PnF TA on: August 07, 2015, 02:58:45 PM
I am an absolute beginner when it comes to cryptography, but shouldn't it be enough for an anonymous currency to hide the amount of coins that are being moved the same way that bitcoin is derivating a hash from the private key, which then is the public key.

Thus we only see the public hash, but we trust the cryptography that a correct amount of coins was moved. No need for clumsy ring signatures. Mhh but at the same time I already see problems, for exampe same hashes for identical transactions. Maybe combine the hash with the input and ouput address to make it more unique?.. I have to learn more about cryptography.

This is brutally offtopic, sorry klee. Remove my post if you wish to.

Edit: This is just an extremely interesting topic.
949  Economy / Speculation / Re: 8600 btc being offered up for sale at $5.25 on: August 07, 2015, 02:04:29 PM
Can anyone say "sold too late"?

LOL

P.S. It may rebound to $5.75 after hitting like $2.75 or so.

It's just funny to see people try to panic sell their bitcoins at the last moment. Cheesy

Epic Bump.

Love how people sold BTC when they were dirt cheap! hahaha

Smoothie, may I ask for what price were you purchasing these coins back in 2010(?)/2011?

Anyway,I love these kind of resurrections. Smiley
950  Economy / Speculation / Re: hodlmybtc speculation thread on: August 07, 2015, 01:26:28 PM
Insane, whales not done buying yet either.

Great catch. Are you exiting your position or are you still in the train?
951  Economy / Speculation / Re: I AM HODLING on: August 07, 2015, 12:47:05 PM
HODLing used to be fun, nowadays it's just boring Cry

Wait for it...

We deserve medals for hodling so strong

If our vision is correct, I think our appreciating net wealth should be enough of a reward.

In this context i remember the saying “The market can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent.”
952  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin 10k when? on: August 07, 2015, 12:37:25 PM
by 2020 if nothing global happens

What do you mean by "if nothing global happens"? A bug in bitcoins code, fork gone bad or a worldwide currency crisies? I think the crisis is much more likely.
953  Economy / Speculation / Re: How will Ethereum's launch affect BTC's price? on: August 07, 2015, 11:32:51 AM
The devs have delayed Ethereum trading by another day.

Ethereum should have been trading a few hours ago because that's when it became possible to send coins to the exchanges. However, they asked all the exchanges to delay trading by 24 hours because they might have to roll back their blockchain. That hardly a slick, smooth start.

This is from Poloniex.

Ethereum deposits are delayed 24 hrs from 2015-08-07 03:50 UTC per dev request. The developers may rollback the chain up to 24 hours in case of an issue. As a result, the developers asked all exchanges to wait 5760 confirms (24 hours) to credit ETH deposits in case the chain is rolled back.Posted by OldManKidd at 2015-08-07 05:32:22

That's what I call a god start. Roll Eyes Curious to see how ethereum will work a few months in the future. What is also interesting, will it hold immediately a top 5 in the cryptomarkets list? After all, they got extreme funding from the bitcoin community.
954  Economy / Speculation / Re: Gold collapsing. Bitcoin UP. on: August 07, 2015, 11:24:33 AM
We are heading into a low price below $100 for Spring 2016, because the $usd is coming so strong due to the contagion in Europe, China, and developing markets.

This prediction will fail.

I think TBTB is over exaggerating the effect of a strong dollar regarding bitcoin. While it's true, that the euro will lose purchasing power compared to the dollar, bitcoin will function as a safe heaven to store wealth when europe starts crashing. For example, for me it's much easier to transfer euro to bitcoin than euro to dollar. Also I am in controle of my wealth and I am out of reach of the banks and the state.
955  Economy / Speculation / Re: Only $360mio of inflow needed to keep current price and reach next halving! on: August 07, 2015, 11:09:56 AM
For some reasons I start to think that miners would give up on mining after Mining block reward , I mean they was earning 25 BTC and they would be earning 12.5 will they still making profit with all electricity they are eating ? If not is it a possible theory that they will stop mining and Bitcoin will eventually die ?  Undecided

Same arguments happened in 2012 before the first halving.

Unfortunately it was true. All miners stopped mining and Bitcoin ceased to be.

RIP
Omg!  The humanity!

Just throw the argument of excessive energy usage and terrorist funding into the pot, lol.

Oh, and think about the children! Roll Eyes
956  Economy / Speculation / Re: PnF TA on: August 07, 2015, 11:04:34 AM
I really like monero and it's good to see it rallying, I just don't see the point with an anonymous digital currency when the only active market place uses KYC. Currently I would only buy it directly from a person and skipping the middle man.

Sorry if this was offtopic.
957  Economy / Speculation / Re: What do you expect from the halving in 2016? on: August 07, 2015, 10:53:29 AM
Are you serious? Shocked What is the reason for this expectation? in my wildest fantasies i would only expect a price around $500.

I expect $5k-$10k/btc after halving.

Well, he didn't specified the time frame after the halving. Theoretically that means the price has to climb over 5k$ till 2020. Not that unrealistic with continued user growth, adoption and more and more use cases.
958  Economy / Speculation / Re: The Karpeles arrest and bitcoin's social stigma. on: August 07, 2015, 10:47:31 AM
I think the deflationary distribution baked into the bitcoin protocol is political. That's the interesting part.

Thinking that joe blow public gives any care to Roger Ver, MtGox implosion, or even bitcoin itself is somewhat silly. It bubbled and died in late 2013 in their minds. The CEO committed suicide and a guy wearing a magical tux haxored all the coins.

If bitcoin does penetrate the mainstream, it will be on the backend. Living behind the splashy javascript curtain, the rails. Until then, it is the domain of idealists, traders, scammers, black/grey markets, capital control evasion, and the tech horny. (Not a horrible thing btw, but possibly problematic for posters bleating "$10k coins next year!")

I'm waiting for the altcoin with an exponentially increasing rate of emission, maybe call it Krugcoin? Surely the proletariat will flock like moths to a flame to build and support it.

Excellent summary of what the public thinks of bitcoin. In the end the mainstream won't experience the basic bitcoin, that we have right now. They will use apps that are build on it. No one will send money to an public key, but they will easily transfer money between facebook, skype, email accounts without ever touching the underlying protocol.
959  Economy / Speculation / Re: Direction is NNE (north northeast) - MOON TIME on: August 07, 2015, 10:22:00 AM

If we look at the 1day interval on Bitcoinwisdom we have a perfect "cup and handle" formation too for the past 6 months.  I am not sure if I should read too much into the trends, but they are called "trends" for a good reason.

It should get fun pretty soon here I believe! Grin

You should also notice that the rsi is strongly in the oversold area in the 1d chart.
It also seems that the big market moves happen mostly on the weekends. Maybe to keep the ETFs out of the profitable moves. Or someone is filling his bag, getting ready for insider action.

Thus I agree, everything points up. Smiley
960  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: August 07, 2015, 10:01:09 AM
Why is it going up now?  Huh

Are we looking at the same chart? Its still mostly sideways until the current triangle closes. But on the other hand i expect sudden movements again on the weekend - the same way like in the last few weeks.
