941  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UEFA Nations League 2020/2021 Discussion Thread on: June 08, 2022, 12:06:23 PM
Belgium's performance against the Netherlands was very disappointing. They conceded 4 goals and managed to score only one goal. The Belgium team is not weak. They have talented players like de Bruyne, Hazard and Lukaku in their squad. Yet they have lost badly against the Netherlands. But I think they will not make the same mistake against Poland. They will play to win this match. Belgium will probably win 1-0 or 2-1 today

Yep, I think there is no other option like betting for Belgium. But of course, anything may happen. Today from the morning there is a huge rain in Brussels, I wonder what will be the state of field. For sure it will not be as famous (at least in Poland and Germany) and difficult game as "game on water" (https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wasserschlacht_von_Frankfurt), but who knows.
2:0 ?

It still is the price from an exchange. The point I quoted was that all exchanges have different prices.
Which one of them?
I've checked all of them, neither of them had a price near 0.0092 since days ago, but when btc was pumping we saw even 0.0094 in freebitco .

I think because of high fees for transfer, each exchange (and freebitco site itself) could be treated as an "islands", where people buy/sell token without transferring to another "island". Once I was evaluating possibility to buy on Binance and send to freebitco, but overall cost was too big, it did not make much sense for me. Maybe with bigger amounts it is sensible.
943  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: SHA256 once & twice on: June 08, 2022, 07:13:04 AM
I've conducted an experiment:

1. make a list of 21203 brainwallet phrases
2. convert this list to WIF by two ways: SHA256 hash once & twice
3. import "once" to Bitcoin Core
4. import "twice" to Bitcoin Core

"Once" appeared in 367490 transactions,
"twice" appeared in ... 0 transactions!

Seems like the way the WIF was encoded for most private keys is SHA256 used once which is different from what tells the documentation of WIF.
Docs say that SHA256 should be done twice (second time on result of first). Strange.

I think you are mixing 2 things (or I do not understand something).
Usually, to create brainwallet you use single sha on the phrase. It gives you private key.
And now, what you want to do with that private key is something different. You may of course convert to WIF, why not. To calculcate checksum, you use double sha on "extended"  private key (+"80" etc etc.).
But I do not understand your confusion. Did you expect another method of creating private keys?

We use sha256 for phrase -> private keys for bitcoin. For Ethereum, they use keccak (sha3). And in the past they used 1 round of keccak, then they changed to 2031 rounds!
If you use software X, they may use "phrase+salt" or whatever. There is no clear documentation (clear standard) for brainwallets.

945  Other / Archival / Re: [BIG LIST] Hardware wallets (80+) on: June 07, 2022, 11:29:11 AM
In addition, I need someone to explain precisely and concisely in detail to me the different between fiat physical hardware wallet and online hardware wallet and why you call this one hardware wallet?

Of course now discussion now goes into creating dictionary definition, but in general difference between "hardware wallet" and "software wallet" is that in case of software wallet you talk about program which is responsible for creation/importing/exporting private keys. It means that user relies on software and (to some extend) has access to private keys. Or even user creates wallet himself importing previously generated (and known) private keys.
In case of hardware wallet we talk about dedicated device which functionality is strictly limited and which does not expose private keys - it works like a black box, where software asks for a given result and device provides just the result (software has no access to data needed to generate the result).
On the other hand paper wallet (piece of paper) is not a hardware wallet, as it only stores (and exposes) the information - and 3rd party is needed to make use of them.

947  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: How I can Create a private key from a text? on: June 07, 2022, 06:22:26 AM
What I found interesting is the possibility to hide a key directly in a text and not only some word from a seed... by the way thank you all for suggestions.

As we may discuss how practical and reliable this solution is, I must say it looks fancy. You know, "The Da Vinci Code" style. There is always an alternative to steel plate with your 12/24 words engraved ;-)
The main problem for that method is like I said before, the big chance of not being able to repeat the phrase. Italian stamps? OK, but if you lose them, it may be difficult to restore the content. Think about alternative approach - take book X, edition Y from year Z, take page P and first 50 characters, including spaces. IF you lose your book, you will at least know how to find the exact copy.

Hey albert0bsd, below is the error, im using the compiled Windows version

Using cygwin?
If you do not have access to "pure" linux, I think it is better to try WSL - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Subsystem_for_Linux - for me it works flawlessly. And it is your choice to install debian or ubuntu. which version etc.

There was not a big surprise, Nadal won the main prize and made (at least) 1053 people happy with their 6.35 bet. It is less than 1159 people who bet on Swiatek, who was almost 100% sure winner.
Only 1053 bets on Nadal because bets were closed about 6 days before the final was held, at the start of the tournament he was not the favorite even young players from the same country with him were more favorite than he was. Ruud is not a balanced opponent for Nadal, especially in big tournaments like the French Open where Nadal is the king. Only those who bet on freebitcoin get big results if they bet on Nadal, didn't check directly but I'm pretty sure in other bookies the odds on Nadal in the final match are very low.

For the purely final bet - yes, it was low.
Do you remember when bets for football tournaments (like World Cup etc) are closed? One week before final?
Because in case of Rolland Garros there were many players eliminated during the tournament, but still one the list. And betting closed one week before the final - yes, it is additional difficulty.
I guess they do not want to have extra work, but maybe it would be good to add extra betting options just for final pair?

Oh, how I regret I did not bet on men's Roland Garros results!
Today Zverev (odds 48.72) lost half-final not with Nadal (6.35) but with his health. And in few moments we will know the second player for the final, Ruud (43.07) plays against Cilic (76.28, Other!).
Even if Nadal win the main prize, odds >6 make a big win for everyone who placed the bet.
I cannot imagine that Rolland Garros would be won by someone with odds >40, but it would be really really great. 183 people who bet on Ruud or 251 who bet on "Other" will remember it for long.
It's very unfortunate isn't it, the two players who enter the final have fairly high odds whoever wins will provide a pleasant profit, but who would thought Ruud would be able to make it to the final or maybe become a champion, maybe the one who chose Ruud had a few bets and already calculated to still profit even though placing a lot of bets on the men's side
Honestly, when we are talking about tennis, this is why so many people gamble on tennis. In fact when you make a list of all the sports that people gamble, and a list of games people watch, you will realize that tennis has a higher percentage of gamblers than watchers versus everyone else, soccer is obviously first but tennis have high odds as well. Why is that? Because people with such huge high odds could end up being there.

You could have wagered 100 bucks on 6 different people, and no matter what happens now, you will be able to profit now since Nadal have 6+ odds, that should show you how much easier it is to wager on tennis, usually if you wager on City or LFC to win the league, the odds are barely over 2 or 3.

There was not a big surprise, Nadal won the main prize and made (at least) 1053 people happy with their 6.35 bet. It is less than 1159 people who bet on Swiatek, who was almost 100% sure winner.

I wanted to "replay" your winning bets from the last posts, but probably I did something wrong (maybe amount was too low?) because I have lost Wink
Next time, please make instructions more detailed ;-)

I went Netherlands vs Belgium.    Someone update me is a draw actually possible under the current rules, final outcome that cant happen right.   Im not that tempted to go that way, even though I generally dislike the concept of overtime to decide a match, penalties especially feel silly end to a match to a worldcup even.

I did not bet on that, and I am surprised with the result. 1:4, at home? I did not expect that. Maybe it is good I did not bet as I would bet on Belgium.

Congrats by the win with winning the bet on Swiatek, she dominated the whole tournament and also the final was an easy win for her.

1.5 is not a fortune, but still. Of course very often betting on expected winner might be a mistake, but in that case all went fine ;-)

954  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Private Key format on: June 03, 2022, 07:51:26 AM
That does look like a bitcoin private key except that it is missing 2 characters since the correct length of an uncompressed private key is 51 not 49.
How did you "find" this anyway? Because if it really did contain 2.9 BTC you wouldn't just come across it. This looks like a fake thing since I checked and no combination of these characters with 2 at different positions could be a valid private key either.

Apart of fact that it looks like uncompressed and it must be compressed key for 3... address, "5v" is also incorrect beginning of uncompressed WIF because it could be only 5H/J/K.

OP: What address you are talking about? 3Nxdf6JrWiip45DpL9tJPGd9ym2CMmjJuy, 3Nx7d2aR1vULYi4rfbnB2ccD4nMsv7RFcN, 3NxSCBshZVqBTZVMkwVxphxKyn3NqpEkQ6 ? They are not so old.
955  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Generate All bitcoin addresses with balance on: June 03, 2022, 07:38:48 AM
I open-sourced the Bitcoin blockchain https://www.dolthub.com/repositories/web3/bitcoin. It's a little behind (will catch up soon to the head block) but you can easily query all wallets in SQL with it. CC this blog https://www.dolthub.com/blog/2022-06-01-free-the-sql-data/ for some ideas.

Very interesting, I was not aware of that. Usually what I do for my needs (if I need to check many addresses from program), is just to download snapshot with addresses/balances etc and load into postgresql database.
I will take a look at that project, if it save me some time, I would probably start using it.

I feel like the war Ferrari failed last week, and the way Charles may have lost some hope towards the team, Red Bull and Max has another great shot at winning. The odds will not be awesome, but at least betting early would mean that you would be able to earn a bit more. I feel like its going to be like that all season, couple of races where Charles wins when Max has a problem, and when Max faces no problems then he is going to win. I get that Charles may be great at pole position getting because he has a flying lap when he does it, but Max could start at 2 or even 3 and still end up beating him on race pace for sure, plus better strategy as well.

I agree. If additionally we add the fact that Verstappen is much more mature than he was 2 years ago, he has great chances. BUT! it is again a street track and the starting order may be one of the most important factors.
By the way, I wonder if Russell will be able to go into top 5 or better. I still remember him from his days in Williams with Kubica - it is incredible (but also sad) how much proper car changes.

So, Iga Świątek and Cori Gauff did it and they will play on Sunday in the Roland Garros final game. Final odds are 1.53 and 4.24 for Gauff, as she does not have her own slot (!) and is listed as "Other" ;-)

And I see the bets for F1 are open, but for me it is definitively too early to make any decision. On the other hand, I liked the idea from few post ago, to bet on teammates, so for this race I will probaly place my bets for both guys from Ferrari and Red Bull, just the matter of ratio. Odds for Sainz 17.55 and 11.68 for Perez... tempting.

Will you place a counterbet on Gauff to win or not or you still have enough confidence in Swiatek to win ? I must admit the odds for Swiatek to win is not bad at 1.53 right now and better than the 1.3 earlier.

Bets are already closed, but to be honest I regret I did not bet on "Other" few days ago, odds >4 are really interesting.
And just after I wrote previous post, I have placed my first bets on Leclerc and Sainz. I think many people will bet on Verstappen as he really needs to win (finally) and is very motivated I suppose.

I don't think there are any packages for talking to GPUs [At least there weren't the last time I read the big Java reference book], so it would only be good for multi-threaded CPU stuff.

There is jcuda http://javagl.de/jcuda.org/
I have seen some videos and examples, it looks promising, but I did not use it yet, as I decided to go to fully c project.

Apple provide Rosetta which could run x86_64 application[1]. Some benchmark on Apple M1 report it has decent performance[2], so why bother re-write Keyhunt code on java? IMO it's more practical to find way to compile Keyhunt on Mac environment instead.

It was not my intention, it was just a general remark about the solution which works on any platform.
Using pure java it is very difficult to have a performance comparable with a good c program. Let's forget about any ideas for rewriting keyhunt!

It did jump out of the range after betting stopped.
Its below $30k again right now so basically we have some sort of 'flash' pump just before the end date for the bet and after that we are back to where it was. I'd say that its pretty convenient for all the bettors that decided to take the gamble on over $30k  Tongue. Kinda wondering if this kind of stuff happened occasionally though

I think everyone has some kind of bias and looking at unpredictable moves of price it is common to see something what does not exist. You must remember that BTC market is so huge, that is it practically impossible to influent/change the price for a given moment, just to win a monthly bet.
At the end you may analyze the historical data and verify of you see strange ups and downs at the end of week or month.
In stock exchanges you may play with contracts for a given date and then it is possible that price will be "manipulated" just before the given date, but I do not think it is the case of BTC.
