982  Economy / Speculation / Re: Floors 'R Us on: April 07, 2013, 07:19:41 PM
This is what successful traders do.

However, if you try to coordinate different actors to work together at particular price points, eventually someone will go rogue and screw everyone else.

How would they screw over everyone else? Wouldn't they just buy into a ceiling or sell into a floor? Unless that person more than half the money, I don't see how that would work.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prisoner's_dilemma

Exactly, actually if you know what everyone else is thinking, you can either anticipate the price movement or are doing insider trading.

There's no such thing as insider trading
We're all doing insider trading. We are trading Bitcoins, while we have more knowledge of it than the public at large.

Also, I think I finally found the crash everybody was talking about last week. Look:

If you look real closely, you might be able to see it.
984  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: April 07, 2013, 06:26:23 PM
This is easily putting us on track for $250-$300 by Tuesday. Simply incredible. I wonder how many bears have smashed there computers after looking at the price the last week? Lol
$300 is a stretch. At this rate, we'll be at $200 by Monday though.
985  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: April 07, 2013, 06:20:18 PM

Huge buy order just recorded. Its not even Monday yet everywhere, and the big bucks have already started flowing in. Monday is going to be just downright ridiculous at this rate.

EDIT: No, apparently that was several "small" buy orders that happened to line up.
986  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: April 07, 2013, 05:58:25 PM

The 800lb Gorilla:

Reading about this bitcoin, I noticed that no reporters were asking the most important question, who gets the money for the newly issued bitcoins? There are 25 bitcoins generated every 10 minutes, or about $35,000 currently. In the articles I read, no one bothered ask who gets that money. Under our current monetary system, there is zero personal incentive for Ben Bernanke to print money, zip. Ben prints the money and gives it to some bond holder; the bond holder gets US dollars for their bond, the bond then gets deposited at the Fed. No one personally benefits from the newly printed money. Ben didn't print the money and run off and build a mansion, he simply transformed an illiquid asset into a liquid asset, that is it. The bond was purchased in the open market at market rates. The interest from the bond gets returned to Congress. Ben has absolutely no financial incentive whatsoever to print money. His incentive is keeping his job by following the monetary guidelines defined in the Fed's charter (for more info read about the Fed's duel mandate of low inflation and full employment.) Under the bitcoin system, there is a huge incentive to cheat and print money, and when those bitcoins are printed, we have no idea where the money goes, and that isn't a joke. It could be some guy paying for his mansion in the Canary Islands, or Kim Jung Um funding a new missile program for all we know.

The way bitcoin explains the system in their Wiki is similar to the way the gold standard was implemented back in the 1800s, they even use similar language. Sorry about the linking to a Wiki, but because of the secrecy of this bitcoin, there aren't a lot of credible sources. This Wiki however is linked on the front page of the bitcoin website as a source for more information. I take that as a sign of confidence/endorsement from whoever is behind bitcoin.

Bitcoins are awarded to Bitcoin nodes known as "miners" for the solution to a difficult proof-of-work problem which confirms transactions and prevents double-spending. This incentive, as the Nakamoto white paper describes it, encourages "nodes to support the network, and provides a way to initially distribute coins into circulation, since no central authority issues them."

Note how they use the term "incentive" to print bitcoins. Two years ago, the incentive was under $1 to create a bitcoin, now it is over $140. That is an incentive to print money out of thin air if I've ever seen one (more on this topic below). Also the miner analogy is way off. Miners in 1849 had to work long hard hours to discover an ounce of gold and have it minted into coins. Gold is called a precious metal for a reason; it is of very limited supply. There is no shortage of electrons and pushing a button on a keyboard doesn't count as hard work. As the hackers recently proved, all it takes is a push of a button and the bitcoins evaporate. This literally could be the ultimate Ponzi scheme, only this time Ponzi is hidden behind a collective network of computers. Gold can work as a currency because it is inelastic. You simply can't print gold out of thin air. That is not true for a bitcoin. A hacker can "print" as many bitcoins as there are electrons in a blink of an eye.

This part was the worst.

The part that I considered funny is where he listed all the properties a currency must have and then said "technically, yes" for bitcoin right after them.

990  Economy / Economics / Re: got robbed by European Commission. Over 700k is lost. on: April 07, 2013, 04:51:41 PM
I mean, what do you expect?

€urope is boycotting Iran due to pressure by jews.

in a system where jews have that much of a say, losing to that system only 700k you should feel lucky.
Yay more antisemitism!

Can we please stop lumping people together by things other than their actions?
This.

Just because some Jewish leaders want to boycott Iran doesn't mean that all Jews do, in the same way that the people in power in Europe are acting like absolute idiots but that doesn't mean all Europeans are.
991  Economy / Speculation / Re: So much for the weekend dip/crash... on: April 07, 2013, 04:46:29 PM
Like I said, this is low volume, and probably indicative of a last irrational push before the serious dumping begins.  The media is going have a lot of fun reporting I-told-you-sos in the next few weeks.
So you're competing with Maria 2.0 to get the biggest troll award?
992  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: April 07, 2013, 04:45:18 PM
Ok, another wrong prediction for me, I sold half of my coins this morning...
I think I have some kind of special superpowers, since price ALWAYS do the opposite...

Here comes the chance to repair your mistake..
Yea, you can buy them right now for only a couple of bucks more. No big deal Smiley
993  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: April 07, 2013, 04:43:30 PM
Looks like my prediction was about 5 hours too slow.

The next key level is $180. Its about half as hard going from $130 to $150 as going from $160 to $180.

Looking at the charts though, I have noticed something quite odd.

Below $162-ish, the asks are declining. Above $162, the ask walls are actually growing. But then just below $180, it switches again, and asks have actually declined at these levels. Perhaps $180 is a more key than I thought? Does anybody think this is significant in any way?
994  Economy / Speculation / Re: the FUD campaign started on: April 07, 2013, 05:59:10 AM
When BTCs get really really big, they're going to associate it with terrorism, mark my words.

They already are, at least the press is. The government itself is too, to a certain extent. Read the fincen documents. A rough paraphrase: People or organisations who sell or buy decentralized currencies for fiat must get documents that can uniquely identify each and every user and provide said documemts to the gpvernment whenever the government wants so the government can protect society from terrorists, illegal weapon transfers, and other illegal activities.

11k to $150 and one moderately large purchase away from an all time high.

I'd love to hit an ATH on a Saturday.

Oh please guys.. We are going to $200, but not before Wednesday. Saturday is a time of quiet accumulation, not making of an ATH...
Listen I take my ATHs when I can get them.
999  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer - MtGoxUSD wall movement tracker on: April 07, 2013, 03:16:12 AM
We are just over half a million dollars away from hitting an all time high. It looks like this show might get on the road a little bit earlier than I thought it would. Sad part is that I won't have the fiat I need to buy in to the potential $145 rally into my Gox account until tomorrow :|
1000  Other / Off-topic / Re: I sold all my bitcoins before the massive price jump. on: April 07, 2013, 02:42:45 AM
I hate my life.
Then buy the same amount of Bitcoins you had before, and know that you only lost out on ~$130 of the price jump, and got in on the other $880. Which is a lot better than most people will do.
