9861  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Kit Sales Open, official sales price $2260 per Kit on: May 31, 2014, 06:54:28 PM
Speaking of overclocking, the S2 seems to be happy @ 225mhs. I swapped out the Enermax for an EVGA 1300 I already had, added an entry in /config/asic-freq.config for 225mhz and am now running at an average of between 1.1 - 1.14 TH with a chip temperature increase of ~ 2 degrees. WU has gone from just over 14K to just under 16K.

I want to let this run a while before I try for 1.2TH

what code and timeout values did you use? can you post or provide a link to. Much thanks, I've got evga 1300 and might give it a shot.

My machine seems to already overheat periodically at default settings, though. I also noticed that once fans speed goes up, hashing goes down, which is reasonable as enermax has to use more power to fans, hence less for hashing, at least this is what I thought.

I was thinking of getting a "naked" kit (not at $2260), then don't even use the default fans and instead use a couple of powerful fans like Vornado to cool the boards, perhaps make a simple wind tunnel. It just might work.

Deal with escrow.

Are you in Jim?

I can increase the bet to 0.5BTC if you want too.

No need for escrow.

And no I don't have that much to gamble.

Deal if you agree to 1+w/gh = you win. Less than that and I win.

Although is far from your 0.7w statement, I am in for the 1w/Ghs.

Anything better you win.

Are you betting that Russian+Chinese cannot engineer a good product? Ask Bitfury Valery Nebesny and Valery Vavilov who just got $20 mil in venture funding.
9863  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Kit Sales Open, official sales price $2260 per Kit on: May 31, 2014, 05:50:59 PM
HI, but yesterday a full S2 was at 2289$ now a KIT is at 2260$  Shocked what happened?

W_M

it means that they are working at S3 and have limited number of components left, most likely.
9864  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [GUIDE] Undervolt antminer s1 [1.19W/GH at the wall] on: May 31, 2014, 05:41:00 PM
Yeah, I don't want to test the higher end. Mine are at 4.47 (give or take) currently. I'll only be in the 4.47k to 3.2k range Grin
or lower... edit... I'm a dumbass... 5K pots turned all the way up are going to result in too low resistance to hit the lower voltages?

0k to 5k pot is common to find.

my guess is cranked to 5k you could achieve 220gh  at 450- 460 watts on  a good plat psu with extra cooling.

while lowered to 3k you can do 140gh at 175 watts>>>  i did this one one of mine.

I would love for all my s-1's to have a 0k to 5k pot  or better yet a 2.5k to 5k dial in option.

2.5k would prevent too low and 5k would prevent too high

I have never done anything like this, so a few questions from a newb:
1. My understanding that for undervolting as per bitmain scheme, I will be removing R3, etc. resistors, but then instructions are a bit thin for me…Do I put something else in place? bitmain says: refer to resistor value to replace. This is where I don't understand. I have to replace R3 and 7 other resistors (8 total, 4 on each board) with what?
2. how POTs came into this? Is it a POT I have to put in place of removed resistors, or is it optional and I can simply put a small droplet of tin where resistor (R3, etc) was?

Thanks

I'd like to take a moment to remind everyone that the future is not written in stone and we are not all destined to be the super mega wealthy elite for doing nothing.

I am not doing nothing. I use bitcoin and I mine=produce bitcoins for you guys to use and speculate on  Wink

I have 3 coupons for sale

0.15 btc each one
AntMiner S2 Coupon 400 USD   3   0   2014-04-28 00:00:00~2014-05-30 00:00:00

They have expired !!!!
Maybe he's selling them as collector's items? Cheesy

I was thinking of keeping one unused ant as a future collectors item, but then again, who knows what will happen later.

Thanks. What do these do in this situation?

offical undercloking/volting from Bitmain

Great, i just got my magnifying glass (X2-X5)lamp (thanks to phillipma to point it-great lamp), soldering kit, multimeter, infrared temperature reader (mostly for S2). All ready to go-will hopefully have fun during the weekend. This is more permanent than pencil mod, so has to be done carefully.

Put POTs.

pots? i am not a gamer...

The monetary base of USD/EUR etc wouldn't be able to cope with that - even if conversion is taking place at just 25% of BTCs (>1trn USD per year required).

Until a few months ago, QE program in US alone was buying 1trn a year in treasuries and mortgages.

What's the deal with people happily snatching up S2's that will never ROI?

If you buy the S2 for 3.769 bitcoins you'll ROI sometime around summer 2015 without factoring in electricity

Who is buying these fucking things?

I'm using mine to build a robot, I assumed that's what we were all doing....

Nah, I am here to produce a localized decrease in entropy while increasing the entropy of the whole system.

choose from the following:
1. It's a service to fellow bitcoiners
2. It's fun
3. You learn new things and hopefully escape future Alzheimers'
4. it has a potential to earn some money if you buy at low bitcoin price, rebuy the coins, then sell coins at higher price or use them to buy new miners
5. machine will, hopefully, have a residual value after 2-3 mo
6. I paid less

No, you have to make the SD card bootable. Google is your friend  Wink

ok, thanks-bootable was a key word  Grin

This is not normal behaviour - suggest you download a new image & reflash a class 10 microSD card & try again. I have the same batch as you & don't suffer with your problems - could be corrupted.

Is the SD card image same as the firmware on this page? - https://bitmaintech.com/support.htm?pid=00720140413044945482bs4xshkh072D

No, that is the firmware link. You need a rar file named bitmain.img - it has been uploaded by someone previously & the link is a few pages back on this thread, just scroll back a bit  Wink

Edit: Just added it to my dropbox in case you can't find it:

https://www.dropbox.com/s/py9jus9mk3tk21e/bitmain.img.zip

Peace  Smiley

A question from a newb in sd cards and flashing..Do you just copy the image file to a micro SD card and stick it in or there is a need to use terminal, etc.
Thanks.
9874  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain AntMiner S2 Setup [HD] on: May 30, 2014, 02:21:04 PM

anyone else noticed (maybe all do this) - when you reboot it goes back to factory defaults ?

I used the "shutdown now -h" command at the cmd line in ssh and it shut down gracefully - but after moving it and powering back up - I had to reenter my network and miner configuration settings (also cant change web gui password)

other than that its working great

Interesting, mine uses the commands that Tracer posted (shutdown -h now) very well so far. In my case, when I tried to "reboot" from the gui it got stuck somehow with both green and red light "on" on the front panel. Upon swithing power off and on again, it revitalized itself. I am surprised how each machine/software combo is so individual-I had the same with S1. Each one has it's own little peculiarity.

I just (5min ago) got 3 brand new S1 and EVGA1300 to run them, but cannot employ due to "family" objections about noise, cords, etc.
If anybody is interested, send me PM, I am in Houston.

You could undervolt and put them in something like this ---silent---

http://s4.postimg.org/j9q99itz1/IMG_20140529_00066.jpg

Or with that power supply you could run two more undervolted/underclocked to 153gh and almost silent

http://s24.postimg.org/ffs2sqkr9/IMG_20140529_00067.jpg

I am curious...EVGA has 8 PCIe cables. Are they split cables or did you use split extenders to run 5 (10 connectors) underclocked?
What is the box? Is it some kind of datacenter box or something simpler?
I am intrigued.

You believe that in only 3 years, bitcoin will reach "full adoption" and achieve its full potential in which it becomes larger than a fiat currency. That seems like too little of an amount of time for that type of development (if such a thing could even happen at all).

I chose the maximum value of $1 million because there a plausible arguments by others that justify such a price. My model is about the adoption by people and organizations buying bitcoin. Perhaps in three years half of all such investors/speculators will have made their respective investments.

There is a provocative model of bitcoin prices as the realtime unfolding of Metcalf's Law, well charted by Peter_R. I reference it Metcalfe's Law and Complete Triumph of Bitcoin Indicate $100 per Satoshi in 2022

Suppose that it takes until 2022 for complete adoption. The Metcalf Model price is $10 billion per bitcoin, and $100 per Satoshi. Hard to believe that now, but I am working on a change to Bitcoin that helps move us in that direction - I believe. Visit my thread in Alternate cryptocurrencies for the whitepaper.

That would be a bit weird, that would make bitcoin (in total) be worth over 100 quadrillion or something. You're talking about today's dollars?

I wouldn't mind if that would happen, but I seriously doubt it. I think 1 to 10 million is plausible, and possibly even 100 million. But beyond that just doesn't seem likely. But I would definitly not mind being a billionaire.

Someone sold one bitcoin in 2022....Jesseeeee!

Edit: A single (and not the best by far) basketball club was sold for $2 bil and bitcoin is worth ~7bil. This is crazy.

ASICMINER has said it will order the equivalent of 30,000 TH/s of wafers each month. Furthermore, the Avalon fourth-generation 28nm chip is set to tapeout soon and AntMiner’s S3 chips are projected to be out this July.

After reseating everything, it powered on .
Only one blade seems to be dead, I moved it around different slots and was able to figure out which one it is.

Time to contact Bitmain ...

It's #10 on the pic below.

Hi, can you tell what was the cause and did you remedy it?
I have almost exactly the same case, but slot#1 is not functioning (showing -------). See my prior post a page or two ago.
9880  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain AntMiner S2 Setup [HD] on: May 29, 2014, 07:56:36 PM
Anyone have any idea as to why my S2 is reporting zero as the BestShare?

Received the miner last night.  Usual case of boards all over the place.  Pulled everything out.  Checked all cables.  Reseated all boards.  Fired it up and configured it.  It's been hashing perfectly all night.  Right around the 1000GH/s mark, 53C, posting shares to BTCGuild as would be expected.  Just zero BestShare value.  Not that I'm concerned about this.  I'm getting paid for the shares I am submitting.  Just curious.

Thanks!

I have the same issue (BestShare at 0), latest firmware. Been hashing fine for a week otherwise.

Any clues?

My 23 day uptime S2 is best share 0, its just not coded.

Funny enough, my partially busted S2 shows great share=~400000 in one hour (since last reboot). Too bad it doesn't mean anything.
Dogie-is it theoretically possible that one slot not hashing could be remedied by the software update? Since there is an obvious difference in how it handles best share, maybe there is a software glitch? Did you ever had a situation when asic non-hashing was fixed by the latest software update?
