Happy Fourth Birthday to DNotes! Congrats to the DNotes team. I must say I am pleased to work with such a dedicated, hardworking, and polite group. It goes to show you what can be accomplished when we all pull the rope the same way. Congrats, team DNotes! Many good things right around the corner.

Amazing! Dauphin DTR-1 from 1993. This is a piece of history and still works 25 years later. This was groundbreaking technology for the time and in many ways began to shape what is today's cell phones and tablets. For those of you familiar with running a business, it takes a lifetime of experiences to get it right. For every successful business there was likely half a dozen failed ones, and the 'overnight success' that were 5-10 years in the making Smiley. I have tremendous respect for Alan and the immense experience he has taken the time to share with me and bring to DNotes.

When I met Alan for the first time, way back in 2001, he was using this funny little “computer” (the DTR). It was like nothing I had ever seen before. I had hired a consulting company, way back in 2001, and Alan was the consultant they had sent out from Chicago. I hired him again, twice, once in 2002, and once in 2004. He was still using that funny little PC, hooked to a Cannon portable printer. I don’t know how many hundreds of thousands of copies he printed on that thing, but I know he printed thousands of copies off of it just for me. I will never forget the day I met Alan. I knew, before those three days he spent with me were up, that I HAD to get to know this man better. I could see the genuis in this man. I knew that together, we could, and would, change the world. That was the beginning of a beautiful relationship. Now, Alan is one of my dearest friends, my closest advisor, and mentor. We met Joe a few years later, and the rest is history, the greatest part of which has still not been written...........(in other words, the best is yet to come!!)

Just noticed today that Craiglist.com now has a button you can check that says “cryptocurrency ok”. It brings up all the stuff listed where the sellers will accept cryptocurrency for. It was interesting to me that the box said “cryptocurrency”, instead of “Bitcoin”, or even “bitcoin”. What also interested me was the number of items that the sellers would accept Bitcoin. Was a lot! I think that sometimes, when we are immersed in our industry, we tend to not recognize how the public perceives this industry, and we sometimes miss, or underestimate the impact cryptocurrency is making. I, for one, continue to be amazed at how much John Q. Public really does know about Bitcoin, in particular. It seems to be catching on quicker that I imagined.

Hey guys! Just checking in, we are wrapping up in the Daylily Gardens for the winter. I have not posted for a while, but have been keeping an eye on you guys to make sure you behave! The tractors and equipment are in the barns, irrigation system is winterized, and some of Alan’s precious breeding stock mulched. It is gonna be an exciting winter for DNotes and DNotes Global, Inc.

For some of them, it wasn't even about money to begin with and still isn't, it's about being an early adopter and learning something new, something that isn't written in any history book but will change the course of the future for many generations.
You put that so well felixir. And dipping that toe in the water to be part of something so fundamental to the future can be really cheap. Maybe not if they're not aware or wanting to have a fraction of a BTC. But if you want a few DNotes, you can get them cheaper than almost any other form of entertainment.

That is a good point Tim, we have setup several programs to help get people easily started in DNotes and begin learning about it. It would be great to come up with a way to get a small amount of DNotes into the hands of people that are interested in getting started and learning more. The challenge is being able to do with in such a way that cannot be exploited and also does not require a lot of manual intervention.

Finally! Something intellectually stimulating to read on BCT again!  Grin  Great to see Dnote's new forum and talk to the crew! I have missed the old forum quite a bit. It was easy to keep up with everything on a daily basis for someone with limited time. Great to see everyone here again!

PS: Did I miss the signature contest? Haven't had time to read all the new posts as of yet...

Hey there RJF! Very good to hear from you again! Things at the farm are going very well, Alan is staying in Coldwater, MI at the farm during the week. We have set up a "war room" at the farm, and built a studio and meeting area. We would love to see you agian sometime!

We are having an "Open House" on Sat. July 8th. At the farm in Coldwater, MI. Anyone that wants to meet the team at DNotes, and wants to see 70 acres of high-end registered Daylilies are welcome. The bash starts about noon or so. We have an area set up for camping, and water/power available. We will have folks there all weekend. Stop by for some beauty, great food (Alan and TeeGee are world class chefs, and we are also cooking a hog, the old fashioned midwestern way).

Again, great to hear from you again, and hope to see some other DNotes supporters also. Stop by and meet Joe, Alan, Tim (TeeGee), Brandon, Chase, Grandmama, and many others. You can contact me beforehand with any questions, or arraignments beforehand. Kevin@smokeysgardens. Com. The physical address at the farm is: 371 S. Centennial Road

Amazing job everyone - congratulations!
 Smiley Smiley
Are you new to DNotes or a returning veteran? Drop in and say hello, or ask a question if you have one.

What a brilliant community that has built up around DNOTES these past few years. Returning veteran here. I've been away for a minute (my wife works weekend nights, I work 24/7 on a tech startup, and we have 3 kids and don't live by family for help), but thankfully things look rosy on that end. I feel like my tech startup life has run a very parallel course to DNotes: sweet technology backed by a great vision and lots of hard graft which is now reaching escape velocity. So hopefully soon I'll be far more free after our exit to devote more time to this crypto community.

What a great compliment, I've been holding DNotes for 3 years now and I tend to agree with you. DNotes has been working very hard to develop essential infrastructure that will scale into a large corporation. Watching all the work that it took to bring the platform to it's current stage has been very impressive. This is a highly dedicated team and I've come to learn that DNotes also values their stakeholders almost as if they are family.

I echo every word of this post 100%.

I had just built a rig at the end of 2013 all those years ago and rather than just point it to an extant coin like LTC, I wanted to find one from Day One. DNotes' value prop hit me like a ton of bricks. It just seemed so SENSIBLE. There were so many coins releasing on a daily basis. Absurd premine scams, IPO frauds etc etc. There was a real, no bullshit dynamism to the NOTE platform. DNotes was (and is) truly going to be a shared stake coin. And so it has proven to be, and then some. So I've literally been a NOTE holder since Day 1, and will continue to soldier on as a died in the wool DNotes evangelist.

As Mark Zuckerberg said waaaay back in the day, "I'm here to build something for the long-term. Everything else is secondary."

This is a team with a dream thats becoming reality. They have a unbelievable abount of patience, more than i have...hats why even when they were quite working in the background not only did i not sell any, i bought more. Exciting times! Once again, i cant wait to see what the future of dnotes looks like!

In late 2013, I read Satoshi's whitepaper, a work of staggering genius, and was entirely convinced of the blockchain's power.

But I knew myself enough to understand that I am too emotional w/my investments. This is why I was a shitty hedge fund trader. If I just bought a bunch of BTC w/cash, I knew I'd care way too much about market movements. So I decided to build a supercomputer that could mine cryptocurrency. I viewed it then, and still now, as an educational expense. That's made all the difference.

Otherwise, I definitely wouldn't have the patience of Job to stick this long, like the DNotes team has. Kudos all around!!!

We have a strong conviction that by helping others to become successful it will ultimately result in great success for DNotes. Everything that we have done thus far, reflects our long-term commitment to build a trusted brand and one that is of great inspiration and value to those who believe in our missions with an invested interest.

In the meaningful life you use your highest strengths and talents to belong to and serve something you believe is larger than the self."

It concerns me that people like Dorfman should be allowed to teach young malleable minds

"To know that you do not know, is best. To pretend to know when you do not know, is a disease."

-Lao-Tzu

Dr. Dorfman, like many other critics just look at the inherent weaknesses of emerging technologies and point out any imperfections. We, as innovators, are excited about the immense potential and commit our life savings and other precious resources to solve critical problems that constraint the progress of the technologies.

"I think almost every great investment has a contrarian check. A lot of people will think that’s a bad investment. But you have a good reason for thinking it’s a good investment and it will get to scale. Those are typically the unusually great investments."

-Reid Hoffman

“Very often when you are going for real innovation you have to go against prevailing wisdom, and it’s hard to go against prevailing wisdom when there are people who have been there for a long time and you have some vice president who says, ‘No, that doesn’t make sense.’ ”
Dr. Robert Langer, MIT Langer Labs

"If  DNotes were to succeed as the digital currency of the future with lasting value it has to take a very different path to reach that mountain top. It must build a solid foundation, block by block, systematically, while executing its strategic plans at the most opportune time which may often conflict with that of speculators."
Bitcointalk: March 8th, 2014 - Alan Yong, DNotes co-founder

Right now, there are 1.5 trillion of USD in circulation and 8.5 trillion of gold mined WW over history. The crypto world now is not even 1% of that. The room to grow is absolutely enormous. I believe there is only one market of the 21st that is similar in size and scale, and that is the world of pervasive Augmented Reality governed by Networks of AIs. The obviousness of that world seems as apparent to me as a pervasive blockchain.

This entire thread has a very similar feel to how DNOTES felt to me the day it released. Only now, the entire crypto world has developed some SERIOUS street cred, and NOTE itself has appreciated nearly 10,000% since inception (no that's not a typo).

"Like an oversexed man at a harem. This is the time to start investing."
-Warren Buffet

Open source is great for this purpose, but there are also many people who instead of using the open-source nature to build and improve upon a network choose to only incorporate the work of others without ever actually building on top of it, or contributing anything new. There are many cryptocurrencies of this ilk, who you will find that while on the face of it may have kept up with 'industry standards', have only spend a few weeks incorporating the code of other open source developers into their own network.

I view blockchains in this fashion. As the top crypto-engineers make their upgrades more blockchain-specific to integrate within their own ecosystem, those crypto that rely upon copying and implementing modular updates will find their technical ability to copy insufficient, and/or the incompatibility issues from blockchain design engineering irreconcilable even if the technical coding ability is there.
"Standing on tiptoe at a parade. Once one person did it, everybody had to do it."
-Warren Buffet

Thing is, once everybody does it, then nobody can see. It's those few who peer through the crowd that get the real glimpse into what happens next.

What a post! You about summed it all up, with a cute little bow on it. You seemed to have hit most of the points Alan has been pounding into our heads for years and years. Thought for the day:

TIMING IS EVERYTHING!!!! (Try crossing a railroad track at the wrong time).

Great post, and good to see you again, Mininghabit!! Time for me to get out in the garden and think about DNotes. I mean think about Daylilies!!! Thanks again for the support.

Excellent work everyone, DNotes is stronger than ever and has done a good job flying under the radar while building the necessary infrastructure to bring a completed product to market.

It looks as though 2017 is the year Alan's vision and careful planning will become a reality, and DNotes will differentiate itself from the competition in a way nobody else can replicate. He has seen the process of innovation occur first hand, and has a far deeper understanding than anyone in our industry on how/why innovation happens, as well as how to deploy innovation from a business perspective. There are many hands working behind the scenes, DNotes has the hardest working and one of the most talented developers in the industry. No other cryptocurrency can come close to matching "star players" like these. I remember early in DNotes' history, people were trying to lecture Alan on how to create a cryptocurrency (they thought any deviation from their ideals was blasphemy), not knowing that he has 40 years of business experience and has been involved in the technology sector since before most of them were born. But he was polite enough to let them voice their opinion.

So here's to the kindest, most skilled, and hardest working cryptocurrency team, DNotes. Happy birthday.

Wow. Kind words, but there are many hands involved in this adventure we are on, including yours! Alan would not have taken on this challenge without the full support from the team at Smokeys Gardens, and our DNotes team could not have made the strides we made without the support of a much wider group, you and many others included. DNotes is the product of many people, from diverse backgrounds, coming together for the good of the world. I am proud to be associated with this fine group. Happy Birthday, DNotes!! Many more to come.

Going to have a designer work on the cover for the book. For your reference, here is the mock design. We have changed a few things since, like the title Improve Your Odds: The Four Pillars of Business Success. If anyone has any ideas, or is interested in participating in the design, now would be a good time. We are getting closer by the day, so we want to get everything ready.

A local DNotes stakeholder has shown some interest in the book and had a couple questions: Will physical copies be available or is it an e-book, and what retailers might we expect to carry it?

The current plan is to have it available in all formats, Paperback, Hardcover, Ebook, Kindle, and the apple format. Available everywhere. We are planning to have it available in all the major book stores, Barnes & Nobles, etc... We can't say for sure before we actually work through the publishing process, as I'm sure there will be a lot of hurdles along the way. There will be a lot of work involved, as we intend to self publish and self promote for the most part, and we are doing everything we can to prepare for it. We are considering launching a kickstarter project prior to it's release to help the marketing process and get the word out.

It may take a while, but Joe is correct that the book will be "available everywhere". My most important personal objective is to ensure that the book will go a long way as a source of inspiration and words of wisdom to many; especially small business owners and their employees.

Thanks guys, they were very happy to hear this. I'm really looking forward to this book for the valuable business wisdom Alan's experience can provide. I'm going to take what I learn and use it to benefit worthy non profit initiatives.

I have been harping on Alan for over ten years to write a book! He has been preaching this sermon for many many years. It is not some "pie in the sky" theory. These concepts have been proven in the real world. They way the book pulls all these inter-related concepts together is even better than I imagined!

     Kudos, Yoda......

Cryptsy:
"Regarding other issues that have been apparent at Cryptsy for the last couple months, I will be making another post to explain what has been happening in the next couple days."

I understand there is a nasty divorce and gag orders involved in the mystery why Vernon has not spoken out. Even so, it's shaky at best...

No excuse can or should be used to justify ignoring so many customers for so long. Having said that, if you are married and planning to start your own business or already owing a business here is an unedited quote from my book:

"If you are married, have your spouse pledged to be supportive of your business venture, for better or for worse, otherwise get the best paying job you can find or you will be handicapped right off the gate. Should things get rough, your home is your only refuge to rejuvenate to fight for another day. With or without a formal commitment, your spouse is already your business partner. Would your spouse make the rest of your day better so that you can be energized to have another productive day building the future dreams for your family? Or is it a case that your bad days at work aren't bad because it was after work when things often got rough? If you cannot have peace, comfort, and support when you come home after a long day, your chances of being better than the competition will be greatly diminished."

It has been my experience that a lot of successful businesses have one thing in common: Either a commited husband/wife team, and/or a family business. There are certainly handicaps to having a family business. BUT, in my opinion, the benifits outweigh the downsides. At one point in time, over half of my 20 employees were family members. One of the downsides of a family business is having to fire or disipline those you love. Case in point:
I have had to fire all three of my children at one time or another. Hell, I have fired one of em MORE than once. And I mean a real firing, done for the right reasons, and done correctly. They all hurt me as a Dad, but the worst was firing my only son. He was pretty big for his age, and helped on the masonry crew since he was 12 years old. I usually worked on the "brick crew" also (loved the work, designing and building fireplaces and chimneys) and worked with him closely for many years. I hired him full time right out of high school, at the age of eighteen. I think he was 20 or 21 years old when he was let go. We were both bawling our eyes out, I could not help it. I felt like Abraham, about to sacrifice his child. I felt like I had failed my son. It all turned out well, he went out into the world, and found out dear old Dad was not such a terrible boss after all. I hired him back after about a year. I sold the company a few years ago, and he still works for the folks I sold the company to. I am trying to get him to come up to Michigan and help me grow daylilies, but so far no success! He likes his damn job too much!!

And Cryptsy 'closed.' Gos flyin' hot.

https://www.cryptsy.com

Sad story indeed. Crypsy would make a good case study. From my perspective, if a "normal" company acted in this way, death would be instant. Common sense has had it's foot on Crypsy's throat for some time now, and it refuses to die!! When I look at the history of Crypsy's actions, I wonder "how in the hell did this company survive for so long?" It was very successful DESPITE itself! (Key word there is WAS). Unless someone else steps in, we may as well start throwing dirt on em.

Netflix has been in the news a lot lately. With very aggressive expansion plan in place, Netflix could be Bitcoin’s best friend.

But don’t forget that Netflix struggled for years during its formative stage. It is now one of the biggest success stories. Innovators see things differently with long term horizon of years not months. “We’ll see where we go from here in the next 10, 15 years from a payments perspective..” certainly caught my attention.”  We know that DNotes will be a viable payment option by then, for sure.

Netflix Exec Suggests Streaming Video Giant Open to Bitcoin

Netflix CFO David Wells touched on the subject of bitcoin during a question-and-answer session at an investor event earlier this month.

“We'll see where we go from here in the next 10, 15 years from a payments perspective, because countries still want to hold on to their monetary policy. But [it] sure would be nice to have bitcoin, in terms of a global currency, that you could use globally.”

I think that is one of the traits of a true visionary. They look at and imagine the world years, maybe decades in the future. Most ordinary folks think tomorrow is the most important day in the future. Visionarys think the day five or ten years from now is more important than tomorrow. I tend to agree.

What has been going on at Cryptsy is quite unfortunate. It is hard enough to build a successful business. Letting it go down through neglect, after being quite successful for a while,  is hard to understand.

DNotes' volume on Cryptsy is still quite high. I suspect that a lot of DNotes from multi-pools are still being  sold through Cryptsy.

It still amazes me. As a lifelong business owner and entrepreneur, I simply do not understand this industry. 90% of them seen to be either scams or so poorly run it is laughable.

Most "owners" are 15 year-olds living with mom.

That does explain a lot, BUT.....when I was 15, I was running TWO businesses already! I dunno if they were REALLY businesses, but, I had "employees", (a couple of buddies who had their driver's license already), "equipment" (an old ton truck, some ladders and roof pics), and a "marketing plan". I painted houses, and would clean up metal "junkpiles" (for free!). I actually feel lucky, Alan was growing up on the other side of the world, farming with water buffalo. At least I had a truck, running water and electricity! If we would have had internet back then, Bill Gates would have been my butler, and Steve Jobs may have been gardener!

All, so the idea in progress for the book and accompanying site is this:

The book is designed to help small business be successful. Drawing from Alan's schooling and knowledge in business and as a business consultant for hundreds of businesses that needed help.

The book I am writing is dedicated to assist small business owners, including many women small business owners. The vast majority of small business owners and their employees are struggling today in the face of mounting regulations and high cost of doing business. Many small business owners struggle to meet payroll on a regular bases and skip supporting their own retirement savings. Many employees have not see a pay raise in years. We are committed to help in ways we can to foster better employer/employee relationship and improved ways of doing business. We believe that CRISP For Retirement, and CRISP For Employees Incentive Benefits when offered as a package with interactive support by virtual of a dedicated web site will make a difference. We also plan to engage other groups as part of the resources that are beneficial for small business owners. Any suggestions you may have will be very much appreciated.

The book and the site will be utilized in the upcoming business to help fund and grow this business. We will be exploring both publisher options and self publishing options if we cannot make a favorable deal with a publisher. We have also created a model for a marketing plan in the event we do have to self publish to ensure it is a viable option.

The site will be a membership site designed to compliment the book, likely with different levels of membership. We intend to keep the cost of membership low in the spirit of helping small business and not becoming a burden, and we plan to over-deliver in terms of value to the customer.

The first level of membership will likely include additional content and explore more in depth the concepts within the book via video and articles published on a regular basis. We intend to have articles from Alan directly and approved articles from industry experts. This would also include specific forms, spreadsheets, and materials that would help small businesses, Alan can go into more detail on that than I can.

The second level may include access to a forum, where we can help answer peoples business questions, give them advice and guidance, and also use it as an outlet for vetted consultants to help in various aspects of their business. One of the requirements for being a vetted consulted in the forum would be that they spend some time helping answer questions on the forums.

So this is the rough idea, I look forward to hearing your comments and suggestions.

I like it. It ties crypto/business/economy/money/success and surviving in the future monetary world together in one place. I think this is something currently lacking in our industry. Everyone involved has an idea of how to make their version of crypto or, blockchain (read sequential database here) or whatever part of this new technology they have bought in to work for them but, very few have the vision to pull it all together or, even show how one area effects the others in real world.

Again, lets look at "blockchain". How many blockchain projects have been announced in the last year? Hundreds? Certainly there is something under the radar here. Not sinister but fearful. Fear of being left behind. As much as banks and other financial institutions try to "pooh pooh" crypto, behind closed doors they are scared to death but, they need to show the public they are engaged. Large corporations and governments are in the same boat, get involved or, get left behind. All these "blockchain" projects are simply vehicles to get funding to explore the technology using the current "buzz" words that are quickly becoming a part of the Lexicon.

A website that could take all this into consideration and perhaps show the way to integration without pain, would be welcome. I feel there are very few places on the Web where professionals can go to discuss the technology and how to best leverage it for their needs. Real world data, working examples, technical input and support, that would be something to get them all in one place.

We've decided on the site name and book title. "Calibrate Your Company; The Four Pillars of Business Success" and FourPillarsofBusinessSuccess.com (there is nothing there now). You can see the current cover concept here, you can ignore the graphics for the most part, this is the conceptual phase we will eventually hand off to a designer. So we would love to hear your comments on those.

Also, I'm getting ready to get started on the site itself so I can start messing around with the design, logo, and testing the various membership site platforms I've found. If you guys have any suggestions on anything at all, including how the site will look, what to include inside and outside of the member area, or logo please feel free to let me know. I will share as much as I can, but I'm sure it will be a week before I have anything to show.

Now this is exciting!!

"Calibrate Your Company; The Four Pillars of Business Success" and FourPillarsofBusinessSuccess.com

"you can ignore the graphics for the most part"  - I actually like the graphics (gears always do it for me - lol). The book cover is awesome!

Exciting indeed! I love the gears also. The title is PERFECT! The title describes the book very well. This book feels like an old friend already. I have been listening to the preacher for the last 15 years. Some of it has sunk in I hope.........

This is a winner take all event, but should there be a tie, prize money (current value over 200 USD) will be split evenly.

In the event that the winner cannot be reached for an extended period of time, the prize money will be awarded to the runner up.

The winner will be decided after the Superbowl on February 7th, best of luck everyone!

Thanks for providing us with a little fun now and again, Brandon! My beloved Colts did not make the playoffs this year.......Going to be interesting. We have a few powerhouses sputtering into the playoffs, and a few teams that are playing like their hair is on fire going in also.

       Thanks again, Brandon

Fantastic article, Chase. We all take chances with our finances everyday of the week and not knowing it. Each day, not spending or investing smartly is a loss of value much more noticeable later part in life.
Immersed in countless hours of research as part of my book project I constantly questioned why some people or even companies are doing so much better than other.

I just wrote this today:

"Human beings, ranked in the highest order within the animal kingdom, are gifted with a powerful capability and urge to combine their efforts and strength in organized groups, thereby developing ingenious ways and complex technology in the utilization of resources from their environment for the accomplishment of a wide variety of collective, as well as individual goals. As a whole our combined efforts, through serving in organizations, have been extremely successful in bringing civilization to what we know as the modern world today. They have constantly made progress in many material things which they seek to achieve, such as better standard of living, growth in their companies, and improved technologies. But both as an individual, as a group, and as a company, some have done significant better than others."

Why? Perhaps it has a lot to do with the way we take chances, our ability to work as a team in the most productive ways to attain common goals, and the utilization of resources available to us. And much more, of course. I thought the timing of Chase article was an interesting coincident. Great job, Chase.

Thank you very much!

Your writing today of people coming together in strong organized groups, reminds me of a 'group building' exercise from years ago.  Everyone was asked a series of rather difficult random questions. As individuals, they were each only able to answer a few of the questions correctly.  When the group was told to combine all their answers, there was only a few of the questions that weren't answered correctly by someone.

I received a message last night from a member of another community that was so touching, it convinced me that there are enough hardworking, selfless, trustworthy, generous, grateful people here to make this industry succeed. If everyone in this industry was like this person, we'd be half way there!

Thank you Alan and Joe for having faith in me and allowing me to contribute in the building of this empire! Wink Grin

2016 is going to be a great year!

Happy New Year!

I love the analogy! When a group of people all pull on the rope the same way, amazing things can happen. Happy New Year everyone. Gonna be a good one.
