1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Grin coin - US markets? on: March 19, 2020, 05:56:58 PM
Well during the new craze of the world it looks like GRIN is doing okay. Iv'e been out of the market and miners for a long while. I see America has been removed from most of the reasonable exchanges... which is just super nice...  Roll Eyes

In my new world of mostly challenges... is there a US compatible market that trades GRIN? Can't seem to find one. Really wish Kraken would take that on....
2  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Ethereum Wallet.... what have they done on: August 08, 2017, 01:15:17 PM
Does anyone have a legit answer as to why an Ethereum node takes WEEKS to download and update? It's at that completely unreasonable state where i seriously have no interest in this currency when a node takes this long to sync. The second i have any issues with my hard wallet i get to go into crisis mode initiating the month-long journey to gain access to my own wallet again.

On a side note Zcash only took about an hour to sync from nothing, only takes up about a gig, compared to the 100GB behemoth that is the ethereum chain. Christ you basically need a dedicated machine with a solid state to even run an eth node these days.

Enough ranting, is this molasses process the norm for everyone else too? Iv'e encountered this on at least 3 machines.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Recommended motherboard on: June 12, 2017, 02:37:08 PM
I don't think they make those Asrock mobos anymore, but what board do you guys recommend for a 5-6 videocard setup?
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Ethereum DAG/VRAM question on: June 09, 2017, 02:34:55 PM
Hi there, I once read that with mining Ethereum, eventually the DAG size would exceed the VRAM of 3GB video cards?

I also read at some point that the DAG is no longer stored in VRAM essentially fixing this future problem?

Can anyone set me straight? Will my 3GB mining farm eventually be obsoleted by massive DAG files?
5  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Ethereum GPU mining with multiple cards (need dummy plug?) on: June 08, 2017, 03:18:03 PM
Sooo this might sound dumb to some lol. I haven't GPU mined on the newest gen of cards too much. My glory days were when litecoin was fighting to get above $3.00 and i was running 4 gpu 7950 rigs. So today is quite a bit different, and with the advent of claymore's cuda miner (always been nVidia guy for gaming), i have since looked to Ethereum for gpu mining on the array of cards i currently have.

So my particular question is this:

Since these newer cards lack DVI altogether, do we need any kind of dummy plug to get the cards to fire up like we use to? I use to have to have a DVi-VGA adapter plug with 4-6 resistors in it to trick it into thinking it was plugged into a monitor source, otherwise the cards wouldn't mine. So we still need to do this somehow? I recall needing to do it with my GTX 980 even when i putzed with ethereum about a year ago.

Thanks for the help guys.
6  Economy / Computer hardware / WTT GTX 1080 FE FOR RX480's on: June 07, 2017, 04:53:57 PM
Hey guys, have a moderately used GTX 1080 Founders edition i'd be willing to part with. Looking for trades on RX480's and potentially other eth mining cards. Just more or less gauging interest... I will post some pics later tonight when i get home.

PM's fine and posts here are fine. Bought and sold a few things on this board, that been said, willing to do escrow, otherwise honestly i'm not looking to scam people and would like a fast transaction.
7  Economy / Computer hardware / EVGA GTX 980 + 780 on: June 20, 2016, 03:23:51 PM
Selling these two items used. Both are in excellent condition and perfect working order. I am looking for offers in USD or BTC. If escrow is requested i have no problem using one but i do not expect to incur the fee's associated nor the shipping cost. These are buyer responsibility.

-Evga GTX 980 ACX 2.0     $299

Used for less than a year, still has around 4 years left on the warranty i believe.

-ASUS GTX 780 DCU2       $199

Have had this for about 3 years. Still 2 years on that warranty.

Both are great cards. Makes another computer i have with a 280x look stupid. Also while the 780 is a gen older than the 980... its only around 20% slower from what iv'e seen. My 780 should easily rival a current 970 for much less.

Again BTC or USD is fine.
8  Bitcoin / Mining software (miners) / Mining behind firewall on: April 21, 2016, 06:26:42 PM
Hey there guys,

I work in a large office building that is poorly heated. Generally in colder months they allow people to run their own space heaters in their respective areas. Most of the space heaters around here i see are in the 1000w area so not too indifferent from an asic.

If i ran a smaller asic in my area and used it like a space heater... would the traffic from the mining generate any weird looking traffic on IT's end? If so is there any way to mask that traffic? Now we have hundreds of computers and an open wifi ap. So there is all kinds of traffic here to begin with. But at night when no one is here.. i could see something like that looking fishy to IT. What are your thoughts?

Thanks in advance.
9  Bitcoin / Mining support / Running Miner off of Deep cycle batteries - expected drain? on: April 07, 2016, 08:59:30 PM
Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone knows how a 12v Deep Cycle battery would do running a miner like an S5? Assume a 590 Watt draw just as a baseline. Is it as simple as pulling watt hours from the battery? IE an S5 running @ 12v using 590 watts is pulling roughly 50 AMP. Is it as simple to say that if the battery is 600 AMP it would provide 600/50= 12 hours? Deep cycle's don't really like to drop below 50% for long life. So 6 hours? I'm more concerned with my concept being incorrect than actual data numbers here.

I've seen plenty of naysayers shunning the use of batteries as they typically have voltage drop as load is applied and battery resistance rises. That is how automotive batteries work, however deep cycle are specifically designed to maintain voltage across a usage curve with a steep drop-off and resistance increase generally happening around the 80% drain mark.

Happy hunting
10  Economy / Computer hardware / Need S5's trade for GTX 980 on: April 07, 2016, 03:45:53 PM
Hey guys,

Doing a new project and need a few S5's or an S7. Looking to trade my Evga GTX 980 for (3) S5's or (1) S7.

Anyone interested please message me Smiley

I'd probably also be interested in any btc deals on S5's at a good price but mostly preferring a trade for this pilot run.

Thanks,
11  Economy / Services / Need a programmer skilled and experienced with android on: December 21, 2015, 04:09:40 PM
Hi all,

Looking to do a start-up. Have a pretty solid idea for an application/concept. Willing to pay a programmer $250 deposit to get started. My scope of work would think this project would finish up around $1000 total paid work. I could pay in bitcoin if needed. This project would essentially require you to be able to interface with a raspberry pi over a local wifi network and send commands via a app/GUI on a tablet which would in turn be able to output to the GPIO wirelessly. There will be graphic design involved and i'm more or less able to handle this side of things but we would need to work together somewhat.

Please PM me. Details won't be given out publicly unless extremely vague questions are asked.

Thanks!
12  Economy / Services / Manufacturing Engineer/Product Development Engineer CAD/CAM Design/Programming on: November 25, 2015, 09:09:48 PM
Hello all!

Experienced ME/PD here wondering if anyone would like any services related to my field. I specialize in CNC machining and have for the last 10 years. I do, as the title states, product development and manufacturing engineering. Specifically i work in the medical field. We design and manufacture medical instruments, implants, etc. I've also had extensive experience in the aerospace/defense contracting business but mostly from a manufacturing side not so much design.

A few services i can render:

-Modeling Design; components, assemblies (using SolidWorks)
-Consulting; Machining practices, Manufacturing practices, Inspection practices, Good documentation practices (a must for medical or aerospace)
-CAM/Tool path posting (Using Esprit); Utilize your machine tool to the best of its ability using state of the art tool paths
-Prints based off of models including tolerancing based on engineering needs. (GD&T)

Also for the design, consider lots of people can draw up models... But they usually use free open source software, which is great, but the industry doesn't support it. Typically the model formats often import choppy or sloppy making the geometry unusable by CAM systems and therefor useless.

The models being made will also be built with manufacturing in mind. I can do configurations showing advancements and removals in each manufacturing process.

I can't really set a rate without seeing a scope-of-work, so that will vary depending on job, difficulty, etc. Certain tasks will require more NRE than others.

*If you are not a large business and you operate out of your garage... I can make special rates for you guys as I personally love start-ups.
13  Economy / Currency exchange / Paypal for BTC on: August 11, 2015, 03:54:34 AM
Hey guys, I will be periodically buying BTC via PayPal via 'friends and family' method as to avoid fees where possible. I typically do this in $50 or $100 and $250 increments and should be needing this at least once per day if not more often. Anyone interested I would be willing to escrow (prefer actually). Anyways send me PM's ladies and gents Smiley
14  Economy / Computer hardware / Selling Bitmain S4+ on: August 03, 2015, 09:27:40 PM
Hey guys. Here today to offer up a lightly used S4+ (shy over a month). If your'e trying to get a hold of one but can't, here is your shot.

A little back-round on my particular unit... as i hear its "special" (I only say this as iv'e not seen anyone acquire this hash-rate with this chip speed)

-It is currently averaging a hash-rate of 2,725Gh/s with an average temp of 75C. This is being achieved at a chip speed of just 212.5! Voltage is locked on S4+ so that has never been played with. Temps never rise into the 80's and that's with this unit in an enclosure that's around 90-100F ambient. I haven't had any issues with this unit shutting down nor any asics going down. The longest up-time iv'e had is around 10 days or so, this is due to the unit using my electric dryer circuit and me needing to power down to dry my clothes Tongue  -Otherwise i have no doubt this unit would run endlessly just as my S5 did in the same conditions. I will say in open air with ambient around 75F the unit tends to run at or under 60c so i hit the silicon lottery with this one.

*edit*

Forgot to mention my hardware errors average 0.0002% at the above mentioned hash-rate/chip-speed. It's also interesting to note that at stock chip speed and a lower temp the hardware errors averaged 0.0008%.

*edit*

Asking $1,300 shipped. Some may object to my asking price. To the uninitiated, hop on ebay and see what they go for now as they are disappearing from the internet. There is only one and it's listed for $1,900.

*Ebay $1,900

*myBTCpool $1,300 (No stock)

Another site I can't mention the name of is also asking $1,400 and is maintaining inventory of at least one.

Shipping from Wisconsin to anywhere in the united states. Willing to use escrow of course (OgNasty). Prefer cash or paypal deal, willing to do btc as a last resort.

16  Economy / Computer hardware / Bitmain Antminer S4+ on: July 02, 2015, 03:23:26 PM
Hey guys, well iv'e officially hit financial hardship. Backed into a light pole this morning and the lexus will need more work than i care to do right now. But i may have to put mining on hold for a minute. In any case i have a S4+ showing up tomorrow at my door. I may end up turning around and selling it right away. I will fire it up tomorrow and probably run it all night just to verify its working correctly.

Shoot me an offer boys!
17  Bitcoin / Hardware / S4+ power supply on: June 29, 2015, 09:14:39 PM
I know this has been an issue in the past. The psu's are typically unreliable from what i read?  I'm looking for a psu that could be used with the s4+ that would run 120v. Anyone know of any? I have a "Power-one" 1300watt but it would make the cut haha.

****edit found this

Its really pricey. and looks like the oem for the s4? But the s4 will not run 120 i thought?

18  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / At what point do we stop kidding ourselves? Bye Bye mining farms. on: June 25, 2015, 05:55:08 PM
I rarely see discussion on the impact of bitcoin. No, not financially, not from an economic standpoint.

How about the eco-system?

Our network hashrate for bitcoin alone (there are also many alts out there) is 177,943,954.

Now lets assume that everyone mining right now is rocking the best of the best hardware (they aren't) grabbing 0.5w/ghs. FYI electricity cost in washington is cheap. REALLY CHEAP. Due to all the hydroelectric power. That been said its about .04$ on an industrial tier. Which means they can run really inefficient hardware by our standards and still be profitable so this is a lot worse than iv'e calculated. I should note EVERYONE is flocking to washington right now with their miners. That means with bitcoins total hash-rate of 177,943,954 GH/s that its energy consumption would be around 88,971,977 Watts or 88.9 Megawatts of power.

Again these numbers are likely far below actual. I would tack on an additional 30% even for people running older hardware.

88.9 MEGAWATTS OF POWER PEOPLE

We can only assume that with the reward drop coming up that either hashrate will double or the price of bitcoin will have to rise. Maybe a bit of both as im speculating but regardless.

Does this seem responsible? We are basically polluting on a massive scale to make pennies on the dollar.

You have to assume at some point governments will come together to put this to an end?

20  Economy / Computer hardware / EVGA GTX 980 on: June 23, 2015, 04:00:51 PM
Looking to sell my EVGA GTX 980 ACX 2.0. This card has been amazing for the time iv'e owned it! Looking to upgrade to a titan X.

I would be mostly interested in the BTC value of this card. But i also would accept trades for pc hardware or even miners. Really need an S4+ right now. Card goes for 500$ new.

I'll start us off at 425$ in btc.
