842  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas, Et al. on: October 30, 2011, 02:10:09 PM
To not hijack another thread, I've opt to start a new one inspired by the following:

Nice.  It will take thousands of articles like this (not people saying use Bitcoin you can make 489032904283490382490% profit in 9 seconds) to slowly ever so slowly convince people to try an alternate currency.  We are talking timelines in years if not decades.

That has always been the game plan Smiley

That being the case, then how about greeting cards with an instant wallet containing 1 BTC (or faction of) within. Most of the time, greeting cards are soon tossed, albeit others are held unto for years, as I do. But, what if the sender (and/or a script inside/back-of the card) expressed the potential future value of the card. Not only would they be more inclined to hold onto the card, a new person has now been introduced to Bitcoin. Unless your a Jehovah Witness, we all give gifts throughout the year, mainly in the form of greeting cards with the one exception--Christmas (rarely birthdays)--where we sometimes give both. Even if the Bitcoin greeting card cost $10 USD, ten bucks is nothing for a gift to a friend or loved one.

Thoughts?

844  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Wikileak's Survival now Depends on Bitcoin on: October 24, 2011, 02:02:15 PM
WikiLeaks Suspends Release of Secrets to Seek Cash:  http://www.usatoday.com/news/world/story/2011-10-24/wikileaks-publishing-finances/50888948/1

Quote
WikiLeaks said in a statement Monday that it would stop publishing in order to focus on making money — explaining that the blockade imposed by financial companies including Visa, MasterCard, Western Union and PayPal left it with no choice.

Looks like a fellow "freedomeer" currently needs more than just a little assistance. Can Bitcoin save the day?

845  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Vote with Bitcoin on: October 21, 2011, 02:22:29 PM
Vote of Confidence: http://www.c21media.net/news/detail.asp?area=89&article=63486

Quote
"We've found younger voters aged 18-34 are more inclined to vote this way," adds Endemol Germany commercial chief Georg Ramme (left). "It's fair to say we've seen an increase in votes through Facebook and 10% of the votes for the show took place via the social media site. This additional revenue stream is complementary to traditional phone voting."

I believe this has been discussed before, but now I've found a current article showcasing its implications.

Imagine an American Idol type show based on the casting of votes via Bitcoin, opposed to being called, text, etc., in. Not only is the winner determined, but they also get to keep all the bitcoins casted. Same true for all the runner ups--no first place prize but they keep their Bitcoin tally.

846  Other / Off-topic / Thank You, Mods! on: October 17, 2011, 04:14:58 PM
This thread is dedicated to all the mods who tirelessly keep this forum in check. I, personally, thank them all, equally, albeit I've poked fun at theymos.

Please refrain from adding snide remarks to this thread. That's what all the other threads are here for. (I can't be serious for one MF minute--sorry 'bout that.)

That said, post your thanks here and feel free to direct your gratitude to any particular mod.

Bruno

Also, after expressing your gratitude, post a humorous image, thereby lightening up their day.

(This is a serious request by me to thank the mods, even though it seems written lightheartedly.)

849  Other / Off-topic / The $1.91 Debt on: October 16, 2011, 01:50:12 AM
(Title of this thread based on current exchange rate.)

I'm not sure if I'm caught up on all the Atlas drama, but did he just close his account over a half bitcoin debt which current equals $1.91? I read that he said the debt will be repaid. If I owed somebody that little, I wound round it up to at least $5.00 and ask where would you like me to send the USPS money order and apologize for the inconvenience. Was/is he that unstable? You don't think that he'll try to get back on the Alex Jones show and try to convince him that Bitcoin is a scam, do you?

I didn't want to state this before, but I once had two very close friends that acted exactly like Atlas. Sadly, they both commented suicide. Let us hope that Atlas gets help soon before someone gets hurt.

Full Disclosure: 2/3 of one of the paragraphs above, I made up.

I will close this thread the minute I feel I'm attacked. <---That sentence is a lie!

In memory of Atlas, I will start a at least one new thread a day that has nothing to do with Bitcoin and post in Bitcoin Discussion, thereby giving Theymos job security. (theymos, I know I have poked a couple jabs at you, but it's all in good fun--I have nothing against you and admire your efforts here. That said, thank you, theymos)

850  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / 2710 Thomes Ave Cheyenne, WY 82001 on: October 13, 2011, 04:57:46 AM
Theymos, this thread is Bitcoin related, so please don't move it.

Would anybody here do business with a Bitcoin related company if the address it posts on its website and on WhoIs is 2710 Thomes Ave Cheyenne, WY 82001?

To get up to speed, read the Reuters article and watch the video here: http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/06/28/us-usa-shell-companies-idUSTRE75R20Z20110628

A short list of corporations located at this address is located here: http://www.corporationwiki.com/Wyoming/Cheyenne/2710-Thomes-Ave-Cheyenne-WY-82001-a354675.aspx

To make this a little interesting, I offer a 1 (one) Bitcoin bounty to the first person that correctly names the entity I'm speaking of in a post on this thread.

852  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Halloween Bitcoin Meetup on: October 08, 2011, 05:23:52 PM
I live in Sandwich, Illinois. I will travel up to 100 miles to attend a Halloween party donning a My Little Pony costume.

My only requests are:

  • At least 5 other Bitcoiners present in costume.
  • A source to get my costume (6'3"; 255 lbs (well distributed--no beer gut, etc.).

Just a fun meetup. Booze is OK, though I may drink very little (not a pussy, but don't want to be pulled over and have a mug shot of a drunk My Little Pony plastered on the internet, though that would be hilarious--Headline: My Little Pony Arrested for DUI)

This is a serious request. Any Bitcoiners in the Chicagoland area game? I need a costume rented or hand made, of which I will pay for. First round of drinks are on me--I mean, I will pay for them.

853  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / IGF: Goodby, Bitcoin? on: October 01, 2011, 01:13:52 PM
I was conducting a quick Google search to respond to the following, quoted from another thread,...:

Quote
"As I said in the other thread, it is precisely for this reason that Namecoin exists. Note that sites do not need to be based in the U.S. for the US Government to seize their domains, since ICANN is based in the US...."

Ok, so why doesnt Big brother shut down websites he doesnt like in Iran, N Korea, etc?   What is the antidote or preventative measure to avoid the US gov. shutting down any btc accepting site?

...when I ran across and read this:

The Bombshell That Could Detonate Your Internet: http://www.internetevolution.com/author.asp?section_id=852&doc_id=234015&f_src=internetevolution_gnews

Quote
The question does not get more savagely blunt: Do you want government running your Internet--deciding what is permissible content, or what could land you in jail?

I'm sure there's a myriad of other serious ramifications, if IGF standards are implemented, that could effect Bitcoin directly, let alone indirectly.

854  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Using PayPal to Buy and Sell Bitcoin on: September 23, 2011, 02:14:26 PM
I'll use the current rate of $5.63 as my example. (this idea may work on eBay as well)

This is for people who want Bitcoin ASAP, for whatever reason.

I offer to sell the weirdest quote (or some other mundane item easily transferred over the internet--eBook also comes to mind) in the past 24 hours for $6.10. Along with your purchase, I will give you a free Bitcoin currently worth $5.63 ($6.10-$.17-$.30=$5.63).

Or do it the other way. For only $10, I will sell you the text of Satoshi Nakamoto's write paper translated into Latin. With each order, I will give you $9.41 worth of Bitcoin, free ($10.00-$.29-$.30=$9.41).

Therefore, there will be no charge backs for the receiver received exactly what they paid for plus a free gift. Of course, you'll have to be careful on the wording. I'm aware that person A can purchase Bitcoin from person B via PayPal on trust alone, but I offer this up for the purpose of selling BTC outright on the internet.

A real world example is selling a mattress. In most states, if not all, it's illegal to sell a mattress. But you can sell the bed frame and give the mattress away for free, hence getting paid more for the bed frame because the mattress is included. It's now illegal to purchase an old baby crib, but you can give it away free with the purchase of the mattress. Seems odd, but that's what happening.

OK, Go!

It's not "hanging," but yes.
Why such interest in my coffee table btw?

Due to the popularity of Rassah's coffee table, I opted to start it's own thread for all to discuss their obsessions with her table.

logansryche locked his thread, but I think that there's still more to be said.

Sorry for coming late to the party, but I had to go and delete some posts I made 12 years ago just in case members start digging into my past. The only thing I couldn't delete was an image of me dancing with a chicken in Pattaya. Full disclosure: The chicken was over 18 year olds--I think.

I don't expect everyone to agree or like what I'm doing, but you're going way overboard with "pointing out the facts." Quite frankly, it's pissing me off! (I think it reads better now.)

So, to be fair to Matthew, don't point out any facts.

The McDonald's Monopoly game is a sweepstakes advertising promotion of McDonald's and Hasbro which uses the theme of the board game Monopoly. The promotion has been offered in the United States, Canada, Germany, Hong Kong, United Kingdom, France, Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands, Australia, Singapore, Austria, Poland and Switzerland since 1987. In recent years, Best Buy has been involved in the U.S. version, and later in the Canadian one as well. The promotion has used other names, such as "Monopoly Best Chance Game" (2003–2005, the beginning of Best Buy's involvement) and "Monopoly/Millionaire Game", a version based on the Who Wants to Be a Millionaire TV show.

What better way than to have a McDonald's promotion based on Bitcoin.

860  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Tom Williams ~ The Smoking Gun(s) or Phin's Pholly on: September 01, 2011, 04:28:30 PM

In the spirit of describing what this thread's about because I don't want a member jumping in on page 12 and stating he/she wished the OP would have gone into greater detail in his first post but since he didn't I'm now late to the party, I offer up the following.

I may have accidentally stumbled upon who Tom Williams is late last night. But after four hours of reading with 17 tabs open (I normally only have 3-4 opened--at the very most), I was too tired to...yada yada yada! The title to this thread should be enough to pique interest, let alone know what it's about.

I'm running late in getting a load of lumber delivered, so allow me to just post a couple links now. When I get back, I don't want to see this moved to Off-Topic.

First, I found this: http://dump.udderweb.com/Censorship/mtgox_leak.txt

From info gleaned there, I found this: redacted for the time being--believe I linked the wrong Tom from my tangled mess

I don't have time now, but I'm also able to link Russian connections. (allinvain may also prove interesting)

Full disclosure: I'm not a member of SA and I've only visited, then started to read, their thread on Bitcoin two days ago (I find it an interesting read). My biggest fear now is that they may do the digging and take full glory in any discoveries before I have an opportunity to present what I've uncovered. But, such is life!
