oroboras, can you please post your mining settings for 7850?
Sure. 7850 info: I am using GUIminer, with no extra flags at all. GPU clock speed is maximum (1050MHz), and memory at 1220MHz. Fan speed is set on auto (runs at around 64%) with CPU temp at 67-68c It is a Sapphire HD 7850 OC (2Gb mem) model, and I'm running all 3 of my monitors (ok, 2 monitors and a TV) through it, with an active link cable, and using MSI Afterburner for overclocking. 7970 info: I am using GUIminer, with the following flags; -v 1 -w 128 GPU clock speed is 1160MHz, and memory is at 1000MHz. Fan speed is set on auto (runs at around 85%) with CPU temp at 77c It is a Sapphire HD 7970 (3Gb mem) model, and I have no monitors plugged in, and it is on an 8x PCIe slot. Driver Info: Driver Packaging Version 12.104-130328a-155980C-ATI Catalyst Version 13.4 OpenGL Version 6.14.10.12217 I hope that helps you out.

Will dropping my core speed increase my hashrate? It seems a backward step.

Is it possible to run the older AMD SDK with the newer version of Catalyst, or do I have to roll back drivers too?

Well, I honestly used to get a constant(ish) 306MH/s on my 7850, with no real fan noise, and a low temperature, until I updated my drivers - and that was with it mining 24/7, for weeks on end. Now, with Catalyst 13.4, Drivers 12.104 - I get only 280MH/s I have re-installed the OpenCL part of the drivers, but that hasn't fixed it at all. I am loathe to delete the drivers, and re-install the old ones, as I tried before, and although everything seemed fine, GUIMiner would crash on startup, and I wasn't able to fix it. until I did a system restore. I have resolved some of the 7970 issues, getting a good 660MH/s, and about 73c temp, fan speed 80% (by clocking the GPU at 1160MHz - which seems to be the fastest I can get with stability, and the memory speed down to 1000MHz) - but now the GPU usage keeps dropping from 99% to as low as 65%, and I have no idea why. I have -v 1 -w 128 in the flags window, and the card is in my 3rd PCIe x16 (running at x8) slot, due to temperature issues if I put it right next to my other card. I wish I had that extra 10% back, though, as I would be getting a decent 720MH/s from my 7970, and over 300MH/s from my 7850 if I did - or just over 1GH/s

I just set up my new 7970 for hashing, but can only push up the clock speed to 1150Mhz (of a maximum of 1500Mhz), before my drivers start crashing. This is keeping my hash rate for this card down to 500-620Mh/s. Also, at this speed, my fan is running at 84% and GPU temperature is a constant 76c I am running it purely for hashing, while I use my 7850 for standard use, AND hashing.
I have 3 x 16x PCIe slots, but if I put both cards together, the 7970 heats up the 7850 terrifically so I've had to put the 7970 in the bottom slot.
Also, has anyone else found that the last version of catalyst dropped hash rates? I used to get 305 from my 7850, now, since updating my drivers, I only get 280.
Does anyone have any tips on how to get the best out of this set up? All help is appreciated.

So the day my new GPU arrives, tripling my output, is the day BTC becomes worthless XD lol, not really. I'm in the UK! DHS has no jurisdiction here

Hmm, looks likes the panic is over. Looks like I'll be making a loss again if I buy in now - can we have another scare please?

Hoping for a dead cat bounce here - can we have a bigger fall please? I have some cash still, and I want cheap coins!

My reward just tripled, I guess it is fixing its self just fine. *phew*

Have I been robbed again?

Block 18001 seems to be more than a little short for me.

They will arrive. Remember Butterfly Labs is trying to create an affordable ASIC miner.
Unlike the Avalon machines, which are also very limited editions, and cost 75BTC or $8500 (at todays price) for a 65GH/s machine (or $129 per GH/s), the 5GH/s BFL Jalapeno unit costs only $54 per GH/s, and the 60GH/s machine is only $2500, making it more than 3 times cheaper than the Avalon.
Yes I know the Avalon is being shipped right now (though all orders are filled, so they are also now, technically not available for purchase), but I'd rather wait for a machine that WILL arrive, while being affordable, than waiting for Avalon's 4th order, which will no doubt be much more expensive again.

I was just looking at the pool stats, as was about to complain about this;
17993 2013-05-12 02:06:26 0:29:07 4092685 72 0.00104594 none 235748 30.47090000 15 confirmations left 17992 2013-05-12 01:37:19 1:03:08 8956679 none none none 235746 25.43976000 13 confirmations left 17991 2013-05-12 00:34:11 1:02:24 8887002 162 0.00000076 none 235739 25.46630000 6 confirmations left 17990 2013-05-11 23:31:47 0:48:34 6999687 196 0.00067176 none 235735 25.09100000 2 confirmations left
....then I realised - my miner was off while I fitted my triple PCIe 16x motherboard, ready for the impending arrival of my 3x Radeon 7970's
I almost made myself look like an idiot - instead, I made myself look like a bragger (or just a Ferengi who is excited about their sudden increase in profit) XD

I had no fiat, so it was one or the other, and I have done terribly trading. So I will have a shiny 3x HD7970 rig, churning out 2GH/s - and my ASIC will eventually arrive, so I'll do ok in the long run.
I wouldn't be so sure about that, the total hashrate and difficulty will go up so fast will all these new ASIC's hitting the market that you will feel forced to invest more and more into mining equipment. It's a king of the hill battle with a neverending slope upwards and no top. Good luck with that, only the ones somewhere high up the hill will be able to make a good profit. There were people back in 2011 saying mining was a waste, it was too late, you'd make more buying BTC. Mining is still quite profitable. I wouldn't hesitate to get into mining, it's not quite as insanely profitable as it used to be, but you'll make money. GPU I'd only do a few rigs that you can use as gaming rigs, the rest into ASIC. Plus it's fun and the more miners the better for the network (more decentralized, which is good). The 7970s are fine cards, easy to resell if he can get more ASICs down the road. That's why I am getting them. I will sell 2 of the 7970's when my first ASIC is shipped, then I will buy a 50GH/s ASIC, and just run that. It will be good for a while, and I should have made enough to break even, with sufficient stored to get the upgrade when they are built - especially if the BTC keeps going up in value.

You can all thank me for this new ramp... I just cashed out to invest in mining equipment. Of course this was going to happen XD Still, I'll be adding to the economy from the other side now, and trading my 'free' BTC instead.
I used fiat to fund my mining equipment, saw it as a better way of topping up my investment - bonus of a shiny new PC! I had no fiat, so it was one or the other, and I have done terribly trading. good point. Oh yeah, my first HD 7970 OC arrives tomorrow.... my output will triple now OK, not speculation, and should be in the mining thread, but I will be speculating the BTC I mine. For the love of me I cannot figure out how to mine. Got a user friendly guide? https://mining.bitcoin.cz/ look on there. It's really easy, and if like me you keep your PC on 24/7, then the extra power consumed is virtually nothing. I doubt that guy will dump his 400BTC yet. I hope he does though, as I will be able to buy in for a tiny profit if he drops to 111.5 - and a tiny profit > boredom.
