1143  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Hive OS - new Linux GPU mining platform on: December 24, 2017, 12:18:59 AM
you can save a lot of $$$ just running any ubuntu machine, without paying crazy monthly fees. and everything thats in hive you can setup by yourself (all docs are online)
At first it's not "a lot of $$$".
Yes, everybody can do that if you are good linux admin and web developer and have months of free time and will to do this)
Hive is not just ubuntu which is sure for free, even you can take my distro and use some scripts from it, it's open. But it's a service in the first place. I have quite a lot of customers which were trying to do their own stats with Zabbix, custom made web scripts, etc. Now they are Hive clients) And every time you will want to add some feature to your own setup you will spend time again and again to do the task which is just in the box of Hive already.

no need to be good linux admin, all you need is proper use of google search. except wallet sync there's no processes that can take significant amount of time. if you can not add features to your rig, how you can be 100% sure its secured? Cool the only way is to build by yourself. and you will never learn to do that with hive? hive might be good for huge farms. but if you running a huge farm and don't know how to configure your miner - dude you probably should stop before somebody got everything)

So man do it yourself and stop this bullshit. Rent a server, create your custom Ubuntu linux miner system and after 2 or 3 month come back here.

Pretty sure you are using claymore.

Did you try it at least?

Time is coins so if you want to do it yourself do it. HiveOS allow me to install any rig in less than 5 minutes with auto-configuration and mining strait away.

And please create your linux system, you can find everything on google.

you don't need 2-3 months man, one night tops to build custom ubuntu/debian. no rent is necessary if all the toys will be on free heroku node. how fast you will clone os image on all your rigs depends on their amount.

the only two things i didn't tried yet is hive and ethos. trust issues  Cool
tried claymore once a year ago - don't think its relevant if you building custom miner
1144  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin can be hacked on: December 23, 2017, 10:35:42 PM
In the near future maybe bitcoin can be hacked with a highly sophisticated quantum computer. By the time this happens, the Bitcoin technology and security will greatly improve. So I personally believe blockchain technology will grow along with computer technology.

its all was hacked years ago, wake up https://lbc.cryptoguru.org/about
1145  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin can be hacked on: December 23, 2017, 10:34:33 PM
every cryptocurrency is hackable. you can open every single key and trace every untraceable tx. and the amount of time you will need for that - depends only on how big your computing power.

1149  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining on a Ten Year Old Motherboard on: December 23, 2017, 02:49:47 AM

Thanks! From what I got from the link it should be fine.

I will try smOS first. Simple Miner...

Blame VoskCoin (youtube) for getting me into all of this... Smiley

$2.37 in my wallet and I'm hooked.

no probs! if you just started, also look at staking coins since its almost resources to mine comparing to pow. you can run a few pos wallets along with your gpu miner

Charlie I don't understand. I get pos and pow. Staking coins? Was that stacking? Even then I still wouldn't understand.

with pow/pos hybrid coins you can mine to your wallet, and then also stake mined coins with same wallet. staking is the way to mine on some algos. more coins in the wallet = higher chance for higher pos block reward

Ok so what I'm getting is mine pow and pos coins (or a hybrid coin) at the same time? Charlie can you give me a spoon-fed example? Which coins would be pow/pos hybrids? I don't see much on that in a google search.

Right now I am mining zPool or MPH through AM with a GTX 750Ti. Just learning all of this and planning out a first rig.

Can you point me to a resource about what you are saying?

edit: I found this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1349402.0
Going down that rabbit hole now...

be sure to build mining software yourself, rig sellers like to worm in a few lines in source code to steal hash power from newbies. not all of them, but its a huge trend.
ill send you few links regarding pos coins in pm to keep things on topic
1150  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How can I protect my self from being hack of bitcoin on: December 23, 2017, 02:42:41 AM
coinbase have insurance up to $500000 (?) for your account, but in case of big hacks it might be months/years to get funds back. and last few weeks a lot of their users are unable to buy or access account due extreme overloads. it steel feels safer to keep some funds on coinbase, but hardware wallet under the pillow might feels even better

according to all the details, this coin will not fit the described situation since the value changes will create chaos for acc depts. SPECIALLY with the exchange on the roadmap that will only boost market jumps

Why is the only option you are considering a buy and hold strategy?
There are lots of trades to be made that could get you there more quickly

if you have time to dedicate full days for this - yea, faster for sure. but not an option for people who can go online just few times a day

onion is a scam coin, all their shady actions are recorded in their own blockchain and running shitty block explorers can not help) monero will go far for sure
