681  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Working on a GPU miner for Primecoin, new thread :) on: September 03, 2013, 01:13:30 PM
How long does everyone's miner run before crashing? Playing with the sievesize, it can take up to a minute to crash, but it always does. Anyone care to share stable settings?
682  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [XPM] Working on a CHICKEN miner for Primecoin, new thread :) on: September 03, 2013, 09:40:10 AM
Can I preorder a Golden Egg?

Yes! Thank you for asking!

"Golden Eggs" are special ASIC miners the chickens are laying for Primecoin.  They generate 1.6 GigaPrimes per sec and are solely powered by the heat of a roosting chicken.

100BTC per "Golden Egg" please
Please update OP with Golden Egg Incubation Hosting Terms. I assume there's a fee for hosting while the eggs are being prepared.

I get the same error message with the command window crashing after about 1 minute or so, depending on sievesize, leaving me with the windows is searching for a solution message. Same issues on Win7, Win8, 32 bit or 64 bit platforms.
685  Other / Off-topic / Re: Will the US strike against Syria cause a world war? on: September 01, 2013, 10:53:23 PM
Lots of things to consider here. The Russians have a naval base in Syria and have sent more than a dozen warships to the region back in May. Of note, the Russian base in Syria caters for nuclear-armed warships. Any attack on Syria could make relations between global powers particularly frosty, and repeats of any 'stand-offs' would not be welcomed. But the Russians have stated that they won't be drawn into a war.

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2013/may/17/russia-sends-warships-missiles-syria/
More of a concern perhaps, Iranian military are reportedly saying that any attack on Syria will certainly 'spill over' outside Syrian borders. And their supreme leader is quoted as saying: "Starting this fire will be like a spark in a large store of gunpowder, with unclear and unspecified outcomes and consequences,". If there is regime change in Syria, Iran would lose one of its few regional allies. It is not inconceivable that Iran might use regional aggression as an excuse to attack Israel.

Any Iranian involvement could trigger a major oil supply problem, particularly if ongoing attacks on Iraqi oil pipelines are successful in disrupting supplies. This could be economically crippling for many countries struggling to recover from recessions, especially in Europe. The EU bailout fund (potentially 500bn Euros) probably can't bail out more than just Spain. Spain might need 350bn, others a lot more. And then there's Greece, facing an accelerated exit from the EU? Governments in trouble just love to talk about war, it gets them re-elected it seems. As the assassination of just 2 people, Archduke Ferdinand and his wife, played a major part in the onset of a previous world war, and the same additional ingredients exist today: "militarism, alliances, imperialism, and nationalism", it is quite impossible to predict any chain reaction of events that might occur with a 'teach-them-a-lesson' military strike on Syria. It just could be about to get a lot worse.

I've decided on the last date to donate: >1 BTC donations before or on September 2nd will get the beta!

So people who donate 1 BTC won't be getting it on the 2nd? Or do you mean >= 1?

From the OP comments: "Donate 1 BTC or more before or on Septempber 2nd and get early beta access!"
So its 1 BTC or more, I would assume.

688  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: KNCminer 48 hour controller board slogan challenge on: August 28, 2013, 08:49:34 PM
"We will reach out to the stars"

Simple, but a mission statement too? A direct quote but abbreviated. To cut the quote short....

"I don't think the human race will survive the next thousand years, unless we spread into space. There are too many accidents that can befall life on a single planet. But I'm an optimist. We will reach out to the stars." Stephen Hawkin

This could lead onto the names for the next gen machines, that might assume names of stars, as KnC are running out of planets more awesome than Jupiter.
689  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: knC legit? on: August 27, 2013, 08:30:14 PM
KnC appears legitimate from all the available information. But judgment day is approaching! Payment options with Paypal also give added security. Customer service and response to emails is quick, and polite. Bear in mind that those saying that they are a scam could just possibly be working for other companies - I havent seen any evidence of scam myself, work your way through the main KnC miner thread and judge for yourself.

What were the hosting details again? Sounds like these chips are going to need to be kept cool.

Adding More Decimal Places To Bitcoin Would Be Printing More Money.
No.
Agreed ^. Changing the position of the decimal point, yes, this could have that effect, but not just adding more zeros. There is some psychology here though about the perception of currency. Most people in US/Euro/UK expect a single unit of any currency to be not worth so much, and bitcoin will contradict this more and more. Anyone got a link for the planned / suggested names of intervening units for bitcoin, between satoshi and bitcoin units?

I can't seem to get any blocks to sync despite adding the spots.conf file with the nodes and I have checked that the filetype extension is not got .txt on the end. It's odd as it syncs fine on 1 PC, not on 2 others. Any suggestions?

Sometimes you will get a display bug. Where it says: "Downloaded x of y Blocks"

If x = the current Spots network block, you are synced. Regardless of your wallet saying otherwise. Just some cross-chatter between chains on one of the nodes
Oops it was my fault. I dumped the .conf folder in the wrong spot. This is sorted now and mining has started! Can you use setgenerate true -1 to initiate correct parameters for mining? or setgenerate true 3 - to only activate 3 cores?

For those of you that have not yet heard of the PrimecoindGPU-alpha.zip file out there, it is a virus so don't be stupid.
Thanks for the heads up.

The pre-release I trust will not be flagged on virustotal. Fingers crossed for a release any day now.
