381  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: anyone heard of Stellar coins? on: August 06, 2014, 01:38:16 PM

I got 6,900 Stellar coins when i register to them. I do hope it will be valuable later.
I don't know it yet if we can mine, any one ever heard of them too?

What part of the world do you live in ? stellar is currently a worldwide trending topic in crypto world, it's being discussed here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=719019.0  with hundred of replies

I actually found the info on odesk. I still work as freelancer but suddenly found someone posted on odesk where they ask for anyone to signup and when i did i saw its one of the coins. Cheesy

Yeah, I would just go ahead and sell your coins for BTC Wink
382  Economy / Services / Re: Selling my signature space! on: August 06, 2014, 01:37:03 PM
Hi,

as the  title says I am selling my signature space. From today I am full time day trader, so I have more than enough time for bitcointalk. I am offering at least 50 posts per month. My price is 0.1 BTC for one month. And I am not scammer and don't want to ruin my reputation for 0.1 btc...this is just an extra money for me.

Feel free to send me a pm if you are interested.

Thanks,
coa032

There are literall dozens of signature campaigns, do you ignore that or what exactly are you trying to acomplish?
383  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Stellar on: August 06, 2014, 01:35:10 PM
How will the proof-of-ownership for Bitcoin algorithm work? Can someone with 1000 BTC claim Stellar, then move to a new address and claim again with the same 1000? Will there be a formula that accounts for "taint"? This means that people will end up buying "tainted" Bitcoin from exchanges like BitStamp and not be able to claim.

They will announce 1 single block. If your address held bitcoin in this block, then you can claim. Pretty straight forward.

I just hope they work with "signing a message" instead of importing private keys..
384  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Stellar on: August 06, 2014, 12:49:30 PM
probably it means the .001%  of the avalaible supply of BTC at that time (snapshot).
Actually there are 13,105,025 (coinmarketcap data) so the 0,001% is 131,05. With that amount of btc you would get 190k stellars, and with 0.001 btc you would get 1,45 stellar in this scenario.

Exactly, as I said, per bitcoin you will get about 1500 stellars. The only question is, when are those stellars distributed?

trading sites like mintpal, bittrex and cryptsy that hold big amount of BTC from their customers will get tons of stellars, that's really unfair.

You could ask them if they will distribute to you. But I doubt it Wink
385  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Electrum Seed Guardian on: August 06, 2014, 12:37:03 PM
I also found: http://passguardian.com/

Some ideas:
Support of BIP39 and/or the possibility to use 128-256 bit mnemonics.
Displaying the shares as mnemonic / qrcode / hex

Maybe i'll fork and will try it by myself. AngularJS is just great to play with Smiley

Passguardian is great. I use it for bip38 passphrase.

I am going to read bip39, as i don't know it.

If you fork the code, don't hesitate to do some pull requests, any help is welcome.

So basically you are protecting your private keys with BIP 38 passwords + use passguardian to split the keys. Isn't this kind of an overkill?

Use blockchain.info with 2fa and encrypted backup. It is as safe as non multisig online wallets go.

388  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is it okay to accept a .jpg file over skype? on: August 06, 2014, 12:24:33 PM
Do you want a virus?

Because that is how you get viruses!
In other words it is very much not okay to open a jpg file received from skype from a stranger.

Correction: it is very much not okay to open any file received from skype from anyone.

Use other means, like email or sharing services.
If you know and trust the person you are receiving the file from and can speak to them via voice or video then you should be able to receive it.

yes, but first make sure that THAT PERSON sent the file. Many skype viruses are distributed in the friendlist without those person knowing!

And that's why you never gamble with what you are not comfortable losing.

Yeah and while you are at it, maybe never gamble if you are not a person with big selfcontrol (most people fall in this criteria!)
390  Other / Off-topic / Re: If you could move to any country, which would you choose? on: August 06, 2014, 12:14:50 PM
Thailand or New Zealand. Both countries are like paradies Smiley
I think Australia is better then both of these places. They have beautiful beaches, beautiful women, and a major economy.

But I like forrests too Wink

Australia is extremely beautiful, still , not comparable to the flora in thailand/new zealand!
391  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [AИN] NODE - Official Discussion Thread! Distributing the coins! on: August 06, 2014, 12:08:42 PM
we need this on POLONIEX
Yep! We need NODE on BTER.COM as well !
by the way-any news, thoughts when we are going to go to any exchange?
Regards

I guess not until the Windows client is released.

Yeah no way polo adds this coin without proper testing of the client/code.
392  Economy / Speculation / Re: This Bitfinex Credit Bubble cannot end well on: August 06, 2014, 12:06:01 PM
I agree relative changes reflect sentiment, but I'm a long term investor anyway.

On a related note I have held shares of companies with huge short interest. In stocks this in only a good thing as shorts need to borrow the shares and the rate for this increases based on demand. This way you make a nice little extra on the side and are able to buy more at depressed prices. I like short sellers Smiley

Short selling is very good for the market, naked short selling is not. So What bitfinex offers is actually very good for the market Wink

You switched from american commas to European commas half way through your post.

And then back again and then again.

EU -> EU -> USD -> EU -> EU -> US

Brain Wallet. I'll use a poem that I wrote when I was a child.  Grin

Very good announcing that over the internet, if one can track you down, they can search for that poem Wink
396  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How would you store >100 Bitcoins? on: August 06, 2014, 02:32:09 AM
is BIP38 encyption better than GPG symmetric encryption?? How is it different?

if so, is there a stand-alone progam, that i can use to "BIP38" a big block of text?

I'm also looking for a Linux GUI program that does GPG symmetric encryption, any ideas?

thanks!!

BIP0038 is a bitcoin standard soley for private keys, so I doubt you will find a program for wall of text.

BIP0038 isn't better then GPG it is just something different. With BIP38 you need to enter a password to decrypt a private key, but for the computer to check if the password is correct it needs to do quite a lot of computational work. For a i7 processor it takes about 10-20 seconds to check one password. This makes bruteforcing multiple magnitudes harder.

BIP38 is used for coldstorage paperwallets, because even if someone finds your keys, they can do jack shit.

Thanks. Is he trustworthy?

He is pretty much one of the most trustworthy persons out there.
BUT he is an asshole Wink
That being said he may laugh at your for being a newby but he will keep his word 100%

Do you know if he provides a collateral in escrow?

Most likely not .But as he owns about 300k-500k bitcoins in semi-liquid stock + XXXk in real BTC (most likely) I don't think it is neccessary.

Mother of god Shocked  Shocked

Yeah, lucky SOB... right time, right place and apparently not the dumbest person Wink
398  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Pre-mined and Facebook distribution on: August 06, 2014, 02:23:48 AM
They already do that. Blackhats are always one step ahead. If there is a way to exploit something, they will.
I'm sure that it's possible, but how much does a good Facebook and verified account costs? (it must respects all the checks)

If you show me that the price of a bunch of good Facebook and verified accounts (older than the launch of the alt-coin) always costs less than $10, than ok, it is probably not a good idea Smiley

10$? More like a few bucks. Those processes can be automated as facebooks verification system is also seriously flawed. I read on a big blackhat forum, that some guys buy a landline with an unlimited number of phone extensions. Then they mass register accounts to abuse facebooks ad system and sell likes and reposts and friends. Those accounts are made extremely fast and cheap. If those guys would get 10$ per account they'd just make tons more and sell until price goes down Wink

Facebook released a statement in one of the stock related publishings, that they beleive up to 25% are fake accounts (I think that number is too small!)
399  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Pre-mined and Facebook distribution on: August 06, 2014, 01:43:37 AM
I think that Youtube accounts are different than Facebook accounts.
What if distributer-app checks all these things?
- how old is the facebook account (ex: it must be older than X months than the launch of the alt-coin)
- how many friends it has (more than a lower average)
- if the has a confirmed phone
- ...

They already do that. Blackhats are always one step ahead. If there is a way to exploit something, they will.
