a poll w/ a yes/no for what? exactly?
1303  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Discworld scrypt coin on: January 04, 2014, 05:17:29 AM
after thinking about it for a bit, I think I want the starting diff to be 1. that will still make it easy, but not stupidly easy, to mine coins.  Quark is a good suggestion, as it can be mined w/ both CPU and GPU successfully.  I think I"m going to start hunting down a dev here soon and getting some quotes.

Thanks for the link. I know they've been threatening asic-based scrypt miners.

someone buy enough to move that 36 up about 4 decimal places. lol
1306  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Discworld scrypt coin on: January 03, 2014, 11:38:50 PM
that sounds good. I'll split the difference and go w/ 120mil, block reward halving every 2 years w/ a minimum of 1 coin reward.   as for the fund, I agree that 2.5 to 5%(a poll might be set up to decide more exactly) being set aside in an account until it makes sense to convert. what does FIAT mean? I've seen it a lot, but never really understood it.  If Alzheimer's gets cured(something fervently hoped for), then I agree we should hold a vote to see which disease/condition/cause should get the proceeds.

Discouraging miners is a bad thing, both for the future of the coin, and any good that it could possibly do. Is there a way to make the account that the fund % goes into transparent, so that anybody interested could see how much is in it, and if "money' gets drawn out? that way honest folks can be kept honest.

Well provided there is a block explorer, I believe making the address public would make it transparent?

right... I knew that(it's been a long day).

Would there be a good coin model out there to use for this? I know that IFC has the diminishing return, but I think that;s after x number of blocks, not x years.

I was thinking have somewhere between 50-70mil coins total, block reward of 15 with 2 per black going to Alzheimer's society. block time would be about 2-2.5min.

it would be awesome of this became a currency to buy all things discworld.
1309  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Discworld scrypt coin on: January 03, 2014, 10:57:51 PM
So are we thinking this should be a coin /w a very high number of total coins, or should we make it a more rare coin? I like the idea of diff starting at 0 and adjusting  every x number of blocks. Should the payout be constant, or decrease over time?
1310  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Discworld scrypt coin on: January 03, 2014, 10:38:59 PM
keep the ideas coming  guys! i like where this is headed so far.
1311  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Discworld scrypt coin on: January 03, 2014, 10:35:45 PM
Also, if a small percent could go to a fund for 'alzheimer's society' - how cool would that be, great advertising as a minor bonus, but to actually have something to forward society in general would be awesome.

As we know, Mr Pratchett suffers from this, and set up the society himself (if i'm not mistaken - which i may be).

With some support, I think we could show how a tribute-coin could really work, and do some good to boot.

Just throwing ideas out there, hope you like them Smiley

K.

This is a *fabulous* idea! if we could figure out a way to make it work , I would be totally on board with it.  I really like the idea of a coin giving back to the community at large.
1312  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Discworld scrypt coin on: January 03, 2014, 09:57:53 PM
I wouldn't know how to go about premining anyway.   it's always kind ofbugged me when a coin is launched and it's mined to shit before anyone even gets their rig in the game.  My mining rig is fairly small anyway(I typically run 400kh/s). I'm not asking for donations, but won't turn them down, either. If anyone knows a good dev, point them my way.
1313  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Discworld scrypt coin on: January 03, 2014, 09:32:09 PM
Hi Smiley

Coins like this may find a place on the sci-fi exchange, I like the idea of fan-coins. They may not revolutionize the world, but they're cool and fun to trade with (needs cool logo and graphics like Cthulhu Coin/Offerings).

I love Terry Pratchett, and will give this a thought or two Cheesy

I've even been known to do a decent logo myself - will post if I have any ideas.

K.

Anything helps. I don't aim to get rich with this coin(but certainly won't complain if I do) Logo ideas are ALWAYS appreciated. I am nowhere near a graphic designer, so all of my logos look like a monkey flung poo at a wall from 20ft.

I intend for this to be a team effort

Doesn't Ankh-Morpork use the dollar?

http://wiki.lspace.org/mediawiki/index.php/Currency

Alternatives ; http://discworld.starturtle.net/lpc/playing/documentation.c?path=/concepts/currency

I think Rhinu Coins would also be a good contender.

Huge Terry Pratchet Fan. would mine for that alone.

So either Rhunu or the Ankh-Morpork Dollar. Ankh Morpork has several denominations of currency however, so it doesn't have to be the dollar.

Quote
Ankh-Morpork   Penny, Ten-pence, Half-Dollar, Dollar, Ten-Dollar, Royal and Crown coins.

Away with your logic! Yes, A-m uses the Dollar, but we might run into issues calling it that.  That's th reason I was looking for a very "Pratchett" name for the coin without using the actual currency name.

I'm a rabid Pritchett fan as well, and also aim to mine almost strictly  for that reason. I actually really like Rhinu for the name, that way it could be solid gold, and not mostly pot metal.
1315  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Discworld scrypt coin on: January 03, 2014, 09:13:11 PM
I want to create a coin based on Terry Pratchett's Discworld series.  Any other fans out there?  What would you like to see in this coin?  I'm looking for both series ideas as well as ideas that make it very Morporkean. Feel free to toss out names as well.  If we get several popular names, I'll start a poll to decide what we call it.  I"m doing this for fun  and because I like the idea, so any input is welcome.

No worries:) and i hope someone else proves me wrong
1317  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] NSACoin coming soon -- The coin that DDOS's you everytime you find a block on: January 03, 2014, 02:06:58 AM
We might instead be changing this a bit so that rather than attack you, the network simply blocks you.

I was thinking about this concept, after much lulz, and in either case, the miner will have an incentive to change IP addresses, a relatively simple thing to do and some people will have more resources to do this than others

It will also be easy to block the network's ion cannons

Two hands up. whoever got a new block will not be granted another block in the next 4 blocks. done. guaranteed decentralized.

I like this idea. I've been on pools where the same 2 people discover almost EVERY single block. it gets kind of frustrating for those that can't throw 10,000+ kh/s
1318  Economy / Services / Re: WTH Scrypt Altcoin developer on: January 03, 2014, 02:03:25 AM
that was the intent. both Linux and Mac, actually. I would love for this to be a coin that everybody has access to.
1319  Economy / Services / WTH Scrypt Altcoin developer on: January 03, 2014, 01:48:52 AM
Looking to hire to create, develop, and maintain a scrypt altcoin based on the current digicoin version. Shoot me a PM w/ a quote.

I will pay for the creation of the coin, and for each new version needed after that.

One block every minute. Difficulty starts at 0 and retarget every 100 blocks. Maximum block size is 750kb. There will be 100,000,000 coins issued.

Block reward will be 20 coins per block for the first 1000 blocks. After that block reward will be re-targeted every 250 blocks. The equation for the block reward will be the (difficulty/1.01316blocknumber/250).334 Each coin is divisible to the thousandth place.

The minimum transaction fee will be .05 coins.

ok, so the qrk pool I was trying to mine on came back up far later than I wanted to, so I miner Molecules.  I mined from 130p yesterday to 130p today, averaging 250kh/s. and I got almost 200 molecules. with that average hashrate, I"m not sure it's a viable choice for mining, but would certainly work for running pools or doing most anything else.
