121  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC can reach $ 20000 after PayPal, Venmo accept payments in BTC, ETH? on: November 12, 2020, 06:11:16 PM
https://www.coindesk.com/paypal-removes-waitlist-for-new-crypto-service

Bitcoin and its deformed children is now available to all US Paypal accounts and the buying limit has been raised to $20,000 a week. Let's hope there's some real ones backing it.
122  Economy / Speculation / Re: Calling top at $16500 (Even Newer!: $2483 bottom 19 Feb 2021 MtGox said so!) on: November 12, 2020, 11:09:04 AM
Every time we have a price movement, this thread comes up. I hope we pass $16.5k soon and so this thread can RIP...

I'm sure this thread will get the occasional necro bump in the future, either to gloat or when it hits $2483 billion per coin. Or $24.83. One to add to future hair raising reading for new arrivals either way.

No matter what it's turned into, the initial call was certainly on point and delivered at the right time.
123  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin needs more women. on: November 12, 2020, 01:21:04 AM
Is the playing field remains unfair?

Nope. How could investing money be in any way unfair? No one's going to turn you away. Alongside biology it's also cultural programming. Just as black folks don't hang out in the country or working class people don't take up tennis. It's just something they don't 'do' despite it being wide open to them.
124  Economy / Collectibles / Re: MESSAGE FROM GRAVITATE CASH OUT COINS NOW on: November 12, 2020, 12:17:53 AM
It seems Casascius set the model in motion and then things have only gone downhill since then as the BTC price continued to increase and almost nobody else seemed to match the strength & caliber of morals & secure practices that Casascius himself had.

Casascius vs everything else has a similar trajectory to Bitcoin's virgin birth vs all the shit that came afterwards.

The first is the purest. After that the vultures get a sniff of blood.

There are of course many solid makers of physical items but there's too much trust required and it's too obvious a temptation for the nefarious.
125  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin needs more women. on: November 12, 2020, 12:06:50 AM
Men are more prone to taking risks and women are more prone to try the tried and tested ways to do things... I'm not really sure why - even in a world where a lot of people are raised a bit more equally.

Hard wired biology. Once a male has emptied his nads it doesn't really matter if he dies, but obviously he has some use afterwards punching mammoths and shit. Women had a brood to keep alive so naturally you're going to take safer options and leave the whacked out stuff to someone more disposable.

3-4 generations does not wipe that difference out even if it's expressed in vastly more subtle terms these days.

The figures for men vs women in much more conventional areas of investment reflect that too. I can't think of many women with active porfolios compared to men.
126  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin needs more women. on: November 11, 2020, 11:46:19 PM
Last time I checked I did not have to send a photo of my genitals to play Bitcoin, apart from Bitstamp. If women are less interested that's on them. It's there waiting for them just as it is for the fellas. The vast majority of males are just as absent too.
127  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: State-Issued Digital Currencies - Why do you need to sell all your bitcoin on: November 11, 2020, 09:12:23 PM
We must prepare ourselves because as soon as those coins are released by most governments of the world that is the message that the media is going to use to bombard us, and you know what will happens next? People being the way they are will just believe it and now instead of the old bitcoin is a ponzi scam articles the we got now we are going to get the bitcoin is not needed anymore kind of articles.

Then the people who have spent the extraordinarily taxing 15 seconds thinking this through will buy it off them. Off they go never to be heard of again. Education goes hand in hand with Bitcoin's rise. Education is not something that can ever regress, it only grows. The people who are too sodding dim to take it on board are ready to be replaced by the increasing numbers who are.
128  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Have you received a call/text recently from a friend/fam asking about Bitcoin? on: November 11, 2020, 09:06:09 PM
No. They will call me at the absolute peak and ask for permission to buy whatever ludicrous shitcoin is up there. Then I will know it's time to sell. When I mention Bitcoin to them again a couple of years down the line when it's a load cheaper they will say 'nah, too expensive.'

Rinse and repeat. This is as dependable as the sun rising and setting.

This is why most people you know are poor and always will be.
129  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: State-Issued Digital Currencies - Why do you need to sell all your bitcoin on: November 06, 2020, 10:54:12 PM
I can't fucking believe people still roll this line out.

A statecoin has every single problem the existing currencies have and many more new ones too. They will have vastly more control over everyone's money and will be able to enact any policy without resistance.

An all statecoin world will make Bitcoin more compelling than ever. If people can't figure that out then they should give up their BTC so someone with a modicum of cognitive ability can benefit from it instead.
130  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Is there any art marketplace for crypto? on: November 06, 2020, 10:39:02 PM
https://gemini.com/nifty-gateway

This is digital art only. Quite an interesting and unique set up. Gemini are involved so it's about as legit as it gets and the works on there have fetched some proper prices too.
131  Economy / Speculation / Re: Are we headed to a new all time high now that momentum is very high on: November 06, 2020, 10:34:01 PM
Price aside, the developments happening are pretty bonkers and dominoes are falling in a way I wouldn't have expected at the start of the year. The ascent to near 16 grand seemed weirdly effortless. Looks like there's plenty left in the tank so I ain't going to call anything.
132  Economy / Speculation / Re: Calling top at $16500 (Even Newer!: $2483 bottom 19 Feb 2021 MtGox said so!) on: November 06, 2020, 09:48:22 PM
My worry on covid was mutation possible, the common cold evolves every year.   If the covid event were observed not to be a one off but a recurring problem every year & 1 vaccine cant solve it then you have a new especially negative dynamic and that news could rock all markets and tank prices.   Most variants previously have not had this strange dynamic of bar bell symptoms ranging from nothing to totally lethal, so that part would be best never seen again.

Decline yes, but not a plunge like that again because of that. And humanity doesn't have any choice but to take on the chin and plough on. If it becomes an eternal fact of life a route to cope will be figured out.
133  Economy / Speculation / Re: Calling top at $16500 (Even Newer!: $2483 bottom 19 Feb 2021 MtGox said so!) on: November 06, 2020, 04:33:13 PM
I'm hoping the above is a bit of an ironic poke? If not then that's something of a shocker. Everyone on here has an agenda of some sort, even if they're not aware of it. In this particular case the awareness is overwhelming.

I wouldn't look to a forum for advice on how to wipe my nose, let alone anything as potentially berserk as this.

If it's true then you still have time for your 'dreams' to come true but maybe some alternative plans should be put in place too.
134  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin is doing Pump & Dump before the US Election results are finalized on: November 06, 2020, 12:44:31 PM
I think it's sod all to do with the election. It's to do with Bitcoin's cycles as ever. Looks like we're at the beginning of something muscular and it has acted the same at this time of year and cycle in the past. It's not as if this is a shock move. The train has left the station election or not.
135  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Silk Road wallet worth more $1B possibly has been hacked on: November 06, 2020, 12:29:28 PM
Ah. So it was stolen from Silk Road. Didn't catch that bit before. I wonder if handing it over may be the end of it for them. It's not as if Ross is going to sue them. A slightly high price to pay for an easy life.

What's the amount of American law enforcement involvement in BTC-e?
136  Economy / Goods / Re: I'll buy one Porsche 911 for 1BTC. on: November 06, 2020, 12:25:30 PM
Maybe your day will come sooner than we expect. In the meantime you can buy several Boxsters and have a demolition derby for less than 1 BTC to stay busy until then.
137  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Silk Road wallet worth more $1B possibly has been hacked on: November 05, 2020, 09:12:28 PM
How can this happen? the Wallet itself or the PC that holds the addresses got hacked?

If the wallet itself got hacked, I mean if the hackers bruteforced the private keys, which is practically impossible but theoretically is not, then it is pretty fucked up.

Either way I don't think I believe it.

Identify the person. Drop extremely heavy legal threats. They roll over and give up their holdings?

It usually works in most cases. There must've been some sort of smoking gun for them to think they had no other option. I guess we may find out some day. More often than not these people make some laughable mistake that gives them up just as Ross did.
138  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Silk Road wallet worth more $1B possibly has been hacked on: November 05, 2020, 06:17:26 PM
What's the betting that every remaining SR coin eventually winds up in the hands of the government? And then the fat cats who buy them at auction. Quite an amusing fate considering their origins.
139  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Silk Road wallet worth more $1B possibly has been hacked on: November 05, 2020, 05:02:21 PM

Looks like it were the long arm of the law, which is v long indeed.

This time around their auctions are going to attract some proper heavyweights. And if anyone says 'Omigod they gon' buy 'em all to dump on Yobit on us runferyerlives' - I will grab their nipples and twist.
140  Economy / Exchanges / Re: OKEx Suspends Withdrawls on: November 05, 2020, 04:53:46 PM
Getting on for three weeks of nothing. That's quite something. Hopefully in future people will properly investigate the places they use. As a newcomer you'd see their numbers and naturally assume it was run by competent people. As we all know it's often not quite the case behind closed doors.
