10% "Bitcoin fee" ? What the hell are you talking about? Bitpay charges 1%.

You should be offering a discount for paying in BTC, not gouging people.

No livestream? We're supposed to be on the bleeding edge, people.

They're just saying that to be dicks. They likely don't even get that it's a donation to the rest of us. And the guy is pool mining. He probably hasn't even withdrawn the balance.

I'm sure D&T will be flattered. Definitely one of the best posters on the forum.

But I think you have missed the mark.
65  Economy / Goods / Re: 100BTC Casascius Gold Plated Bar on: May 10, 2013, 03:03:02 AM
It was funded March 20th this year. I remember freaking out because it was in the mail during the blockchain fork, and I was a nOOb then!

Thanks for the advice and any offers sent, but I sold it today to a local friend of mine for cash. Talked him into it since he has no bitcoins until now. He paid me Gox weekly average plus 10%. Off to the car dealership with the nasty fiat he gave me.

You're bringing 12k to the car dearship in cash? Could you let us know how that goes? No snark intended.
66  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gyft and BitPay Open 50,000 Retail Locations to Bitcoins on: May 09, 2013, 06:10:26 PM
A few of the places you can buy a giftcard from on the spot:

Walmart, Target, Amazon, CVS, KMart, Lowe's, Sears, Basspro

JCPenny, Old Navy, Gap, American Eagle, Footlocker, Nike

Chili's, Burger King, On The Border, Papa John's

This...is a big deal.

Edit: unfortunately, it doesn't look like you can buy from Walmart/Target. Only "add existing giftcards" to your e-wallet. However, plenty on the list that are still huge.
67  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Gyft and BitPay Open 50,000 Retail Locations to Bitcoins on: May 09, 2013, 05:48:39 PM
I didn't see the update that allows self purchase either.
I have a Sony Android phone and the current Gyft app in the Play Store for me is 1.4
I ended up sending it to a guy in my office then told him to send me the e-mail. From there it's pretty self explanatory.
What was in the email? A gyft code or the actual giftcard code?

I am seeing on Reddit that people are using the "send to someone else" option, but selecting their own email from the contacts list. Hopefully they will update the app to make this easier.

Nice ! - I just bought a $25.00 GC for .2222 BTC
At the current exchange rate, that cost me $25.02
This is MAGICAL!
I'm going to eat lunch everyday for the next month using only Bitcoin!

Did you buy it for yourself or send it to someone else? If you bought it for yourself please explain how you did and what version of the app you're using. I don't see an update for 1.4 and also don't see a self-purchase option, only an option to purchase and send to someone else.

By the way... where was this app when the journalist was trying to live on Bitcoins for a week???
I know, Bitcoin would have received some GOOD press in that series instead of whiny complaints.
She wouldn't have used it. She could have done the same thing with her Clipper card but considered it "cheating." It's ok, her article was still very interesting and got a grocery store to start accepting it, good job overall.
70  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-05-07 Daily Dot - The Future of Bitcoin According to Erik Vorhees on: May 08, 2013, 05:48:19 PM
People still say "Bitcoin is caput" while we're in triple digit prices?

It's so ludicrous I don't even know how to react anymore.
71  Economy / Goods / Re: 100BTC Casascius Gold Plated Bar on: May 06, 2013, 03:16:59 AM
Such a shame you have to get rid of it. Out of curiosity, how much would the gold alone be worth?

I would also be interested in that question, wouldn't it be wise OP to hold off a little longer for a rise in price.

No clue about the worth of the gold. My plan was to keep this for 5+ years, but I totalled my vehicle and need a new one. I bought this when the price was in the 20s so I've seen enough profit to let it go now. I have other Casascius coins that I will most likely never sell, so I don't mind letting it go.

If I have no clue what to even price this bar at, so I was trying to gauge interest, and start an auction. Or like I said above, if I receive an offer that I deem acceptable I would be willing to sell it straight up, for BTC that I can then cash out, or cash in person. I would HATE to rip the sticker off this beauty, but I know know many ppl are willing to throw over 100BTC for purchases. I guess I will give it a few days, and continue to pay for my rental car.

Good luck with your sale! There are two car dealerships that take Bitcoin, one in Dallas and one in Kansas, IIRC.

I don't know how gmaxwell, jgarzik and Gavin put up with this, really I don't.

I just hope they realize that for every one of these screaming lunatics who can't read, there are tens of thousands of us who appreciate their hard work. Thanks, guys.

Huh? this has little to nothing to do with SD. AFAIR they no longer create very small outputs.
You, sir, have the patience of a saint.

I know this is like months late, but I just wanted to say that I was very happy with my btc shirt purchase from jwzguy.  Standup bitcointalk member!
Never too late, thanks very much.

Is smoothie asleep? I expected a new thread inquiring as to a certain party's emotional state of well-being after having made a recent and potentially foolish decision.

Hey, thanks very much for your efforts.
A+ on content and editing. Soundtrack is nice too.

The only thing I would strongly suggest for the future is an investment in better mics/mic technique. Room noise because of poor mic'ing detracted a lot from the overall quality of the video. I hope you can address this in further endeavors.

Did a post from 2011 time-travel to the future?
