121  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Tails / Bitcoin-QT / Cold Storage on: February 28, 2014, 10:53:09 PM
If you remove the wallets on disk after printing I guess it would be considered cold storage, but I'm not quite sure.
It depends if cold storage requires your private keys to never have existed on a online computer

i will be disconnecting from the internet after downloading bitcoin-qt then generating 5 addresses then printing the private keys then deleting bitcoin-qt then send my bitcoin to my wallets

In that case its cold storage for sure.
Be aware that most operating systems doesn't actually delete a file physically.
On most linux systems you have a commandline tool called shred that overwrites a file several times, making it unrecoverable. You might want to use that before you "delete" it

btw are you aware that there is clients that can generate printable wallet backups for you?

does it matter if the bitcoin-qt is offline
No. You can transfer btc to any bitcoin address at any time, and from anywhere.

Its the p2p network that manages your bitcoins, not you.

This actually illustrates one of the really neat features about the bitcoin technology:

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"

124  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Oh, I can't believe a magical, made up currency didn't work out" on: February 28, 2014, 06:16:23 PM
Yeah the public reputation of bitcoin is kinda ruined.  Undecided
Most of the people, being ignorant f*cktards, already labeled it as scam, ponzi scheme, etc.
All news is good news Wink
As long as people talk about it, it helps BTC in the long run
Don't be shortsighted

I think you are right about this.

MtGox will be forgotten by the public in a few of weeks. In fact, the hundreds of ATMs being put up all over the world seems to be the next big sensation.

I wouldn't be surprised if bitcoin would continue to grow even if all exchanges was banned. Simply because the technology works as expected
125  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What do you think the best resoures to introuduce a noob to bitcoin are? on: February 28, 2014, 02:56:18 PM
I like the Bitcoin 101 series

127  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Senator Joe Manchin Asks Fed to Ban Bitcoin--Petition Live at Change.org on: February 27, 2014, 03:13:18 PM
I suspect this senator was disappointed when that peculiar thing called bitcoin didn't go away when Mt.Gox had its managed crash, and now he desperately want's to get another stake into bitcoins heart, hoping to "finish the job"

It seems far fetched that this has anything to do with crime and money laundering. If that was the case, they would have banned crime and money laundering instead.
The argument about volatility is also far fetched. Staring on the exchange price and judging the technology based on that just doesn't make sense.
128  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Moneyandtech.com video on Sen. Manchin's call for a ban on Bitcoin on: February 26, 2014, 10:43:25 PM
I thought senators was supposed to base their arguments on facts and figures. This guy is apparently misinformed.
In my country positive views and articles shows up all the time. Both in media and academia.
No fear mongering what so ever. People talk about how they are working on their PhD degrees in bitcoin related fields, and tech companies are talking about how they are building knowledge and laying plans for bitcoin technologies. All in mainstream media.
There is still a couple of mainstream media houses trying to give bitcoin a bad name, but this is actually good news in my opinion.
Its a strong indication that bitcoin in fact isn't another NWO master plan. If it was, all the mainstream media would be aligned pushing it to the people.
129  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We should really worry on: February 26, 2014, 09:14:18 PM
Any bank that hasn't picked up on bitcoin by now is a dinosaur unable to innovate. I expect my bank to be at least as smart as me when it comes to money and markets.

If you ask me everything is on track. And a fast one too.
Things are moving along just fine
131  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why do people fear regulation so much? on: February 26, 2014, 08:45:27 PM
Basically because revolution always comes from below. Anything applied to it from above can only weaken it.
132  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The very essence of BTC got hurt on: February 26, 2014, 06:15:20 PM
What have we all learned from this debacle? ...

I would say one thing we should have learned is

- Keeping a big amount of btc on some online centralized service is a bad idea.
- Keeping a small amount of btc on some online centralized service and the rest on a paper backup, is a good idea.
133  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it safe to say bitcoin did its job? on: February 26, 2014, 02:57:42 PM
I would say yes. MtGox was unable to mass-produce btc in order to hide their problems and kick the can down the road
134  Economy / Marketplace / Re: sell stuff for btc! on: February 26, 2014, 02:17:33 PM
It would be nice with some blockbusters accepting btc. Still, I find the small vendors to be more important

135  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The very essence of BTC got hurt on: February 26, 2014, 02:05:11 PM
Everything that has happened lately has been for the good in my opinion.
People need to understand what bitcoin is, and what it is not.

From a technical standpoint, I find bitcoin to work as expected.

Its sad that some people seems to have lost their investment, but it has been said over and over, you are responsible for your own coins. You are your own bank whether you like it or not.

This is not another Facebook. Don't expect anyone to hold your hand.

Regarding the current price of btc, I believe it is still somewhat too high, compared to bitcoins current adoption.
136  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Counter Intelligence - MTGOX run by the feds to make a bundle then eliminate btc on: February 26, 2014, 11:09:09 AM
It could be.

I seem to remember there was a meeting arranged by the US government some time ago where MtGox and the Winkletwins participated
137  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin becoming the one world currency for the New World Order? on: February 25, 2014, 03:51:50 PM
Question of the Day:
Is Bitcoin becoming the one world currency for the New World Order?

Note: The New World Order is the devil worshipers cult Illuminati (also known as the Bilderberg Group)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Bilderberg_participants

You mean the pedophiles hiding in CIA and the White House?

Its hard to say, they will play a role for sure
138  Other / Off-topic / Re: The Bitcoin Revolution Is Just Beginning (Full Interview) on: February 23, 2014, 03:09:24 PM
An idea can be patented (unfortunately) and that's the whole point of this video.

If you look at the whole thing, specially towards the end, you will see what I mean by "pushing"
Its a crappy brainwashing commercial. The kind that only a patent troll could stand behind.
139  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Zerocoin, the bitcoin killer? Time will tell but I say yes on: February 23, 2014, 03:02:53 PM
The only "better" bitcoin out there as I see it is darkcoin.

It has world class developers behind it and its not just a bitcoin clone.
They take privacy and neutrality seriously, and it is not pre-mined in any way.
Jesus, I can't believe anyone buying into a coin that isn't open from day one.

Thats the only real competition to bitcoin I have found so far.

You are obviously hyping up a coin you are holding. Darkcoin is nowhere near as innovative or comparable to Zerocoin.

I'm not holding any darkcoin yet. I have been looking into what projects has competent coders behind it, and darkcoin, with their libbitcoin codebase is one of them.
And I'm sure there is others too. Without competent people working on the projects its just not going to make it in the long run.
Most altcoins out there is just another bitcoin clone. I doubt they can make it, specially not those who doesn't allow people to start mining from day one.

Stop pushing this fake idea that bitcoin has anything to do with Edison.
I'm sure the corporation that holds the patent rights to Edisons work would like to believe it does. But it just doesn't.
