81  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should core bitcoin developers freeze stolen Mt.Gox bitcoins? on: March 11, 2014, 11:24:34 AM
Regardless of how and if they could do that, it would ruin bitcoin. Period.

This is a really scary thought. It better be impossible.

Never underestimate a statement that has survived a shit-storm of angry one liners
83  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Roubini attacks bitcoin, groan... on: March 10, 2014, 10:04:16 PM
I always get surprised by economists. They seem unable to look more than a couple of weeks back.
If you look at the price history for the last 5 years, it looks very healthy indeed. The bump in December 2013 also looks very similar to the bump we had in April 2013, just a few scales bigger.

Thinking about it, this is probably good news anyway. If you spent your entire life studying fiat currencies, you won't like bitcoin, and for a good reason I suspect.

edit:
The CNBC talk in that article is quite sober actually.
84  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Wikipedia founder asking for help to learn Bitcoin on: March 10, 2014, 04:59:23 PM
Im not very impressed with his reddit announcement.

Had he been on the ball even slightly, "Wikipedia Accepting Bitcoin" could have been a huge announcement, and boosted the price.

Instead he's all:

"I  have a wallet .. uhh ... i guess ... .i mean .. i think someone sent coins to it ... so uhh ... if you want to keep doing that .... you can.  Ill try to read more ... maybe figure this out .... so .. uhh yeah"

I mean, how bad was that intro?

-B-

I prefer that over some "I'm now the king of bitcoin... btw I started playing with it today..." attitude.

He should be treated as anyone else around here in my oppinion
85  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bad vibe in Texas on: March 10, 2014, 09:47:37 AM
I was one of the speakers.

I didn't get a bad vibe...it felt exciting and optimistic like any other Bitcoin conference.

I had a lot of fun and made some new friends.

I appreciate that.

I won't pass judgement as I wasn't there myself, but I realize that my oppinion might be tainted by the fact that I think the right thing
for bitcoin is to continue growing from below.
Thousands of small businesses is a stronger scheme for bitcoin than a few multi-national investor groups owning the lot,
even if that means a lower marketshare and coin price.
Then again, I have only seen a few videos so far.
86  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Apple's War against Bitcoin means they want to create their own Crypto on: March 10, 2014, 02:25:55 AM
This topic brings up an interesting thought: What would Steve Jobs do in response to Bitcoin if he was alive? we know he's not a traditional oldboys CEO type - Apple was in the shitter before he came back and introduced a series of innovative products. I think he would support Bitcoin because he was a big fan of innovation.

He did have crazy visions, at least when he was younger. Something that is rare among career hungry suits and CEOs

...
1) community validation / certification - I would to see some huge size community group (none anonymous) say 1000+ people, vote give star ratings to service providers.
...

Something simple like star ratings would be nice. This is a feature that usually works really well due to the fact that it represents independent peer reviews, something that could fit bitcoin really well. If nothing else if would make sure the vast majority of newcomers picks a trustworthy service.

There was a session at the Texas bitcoin conference where this issue was discussed, and there was some interesting ideas there, even though I fear we could easily end up with a cartel like situation if we don't get it right.

TOTALLY WRONG!!  Decentralized is only way to go.....

The only reason you would "rate" a service is because it is centralized.  A decentralized system is trusted by the mathematics and not because someone gave it a star rating.  Hell, do you rate my p2p bitcoin server I am running at my house with a "star rating"!?  Decentralized exchange services will not need any rating by anyone.  It will be trusted because the code running the exchange service can be reviewed and cryptography ensures it's trustworthyness.

The current exchanges are centralized, but I completely agree. If we can make a decentralized coin2coin exchange it would be great

what are some of the other ideas that were shared at the conference

That is more about making exchanges secure though, not necessary efficient or user friendly or decentralized

Hong Kong is entering a critical juncture in the Occupy Movement this year.  We will have large-scale protests to fight for democracy.  Support us!

Our accounts:-
Twitter: https://twitter.com/occupyhongkong
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/occupyhongkong
Bitcoin address: 13fUiw4JvvBBKtgvWUBRJPbi32AYRTs9kf

wow another scammer going for the bitcoin grab scheme using a far away news item as the ploy to be the centralised middleman that takes a large cut.

hong kong is not a poor country, their unemployment rate is lower then most western countries. this is no "helping the poor" scheme.

if you truly want to help. get hong kong DIY stores to accept bitcoin so that people can buy wood to make their placards. get print design businesses to accept bitcoin so that they can print banners.

get businesses that these protesters need to do their protesting to put a bitcoin address on their website and we will then.. maybe donate to support the cause.

.. oh wait let me guess.. you dont live near the protest area's.. then you being project manager is useless

now to show your failings
1. you have not shown proof of who you are, you just posted simple links anyone can find
2. you are addressing the english speaking population.. try learning the chinese and making a campaign to get chinese people to donate
3. you failed to realise begging without proof gets you no where.
4. you have not shown what the funds would buy, how it would be distributed...

i have unshamefully exposed soo many scammers that it is starting to become a numbing feeling. and as such i dont hide away behind the shroud of 'being pleasant to everyone' when it comes to extortionists

and please dont reply with a rebuttle and excuses. only reply with links to PROOF that its worth donating to

Asshattery like this really isn't necessary. You could say the same about Andreas Antonopulos collecting btc for Dorian
91  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bad vibe in Texas on: March 09, 2014, 02:01:20 PM
From the videos I have seen from the Texas conference so far I get the feeling that there is a bad vibe throughout the whole conference.
Earlier conferences that has been held in Europe and other places, you get the feeling that everyone is in wonderland and everything is up for grabs.
Also with all the lawyers and legislators coming in, talking about how we (the community) have to expect this and that from government ect.
Sometimes I get the feeling I'm being talked down to as if I was some kind of clever but naughty kid.
Its just a bad vibe to the whole thing.
What do you think?

Quote
“There’s lots of value to it,” he argues, but “there’s a danger to it not being regulated.”

What exactly is so dangerous about that?
Is it really that dangerous to allow millions of people to act freely?
Is it really that important to make sure all people think and act the same, sitting in their livingroom watching the exact same information on TV?

I suspect that what he is worried about is politicians and globalists loosing some of their power over peoples everyday life.

93  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: We are losing Bitcoin.Bitcoin had its 15 minutes of fame We are losing our dream on: March 09, 2014, 10:05:56 AM
Can we stop bashing the OP, and start growing up instead?

What we need is to make it viable to use bitcoin where people live.
That means being able to both earn them and spend them for everyday items and groceries
94  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Andreas Antonopolous raising funds for Dorian Nakamoto on: March 08, 2014, 12:16:14 AM
Here is a suggestion, as we need bitcoin to move around, why not give the guy a paper backup instead?
95  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Andreas Antonopolous raising funds for Dorian Nakamoto on: March 08, 2014, 12:09:10 AM
Personally I have no idea who this guy is (certainly not the bitcoin founder, who has enough btc already) but what I do know is that I can throw this guy a dime from the other side of the planet  Cheesy

That is great, I agree with you. But why not send to him directly?

Umm, I thought I did... didn't the address say 1Dorian...?

Yeah, but that is an address controlled by the collector and not the beneficiary of the donation.

I know, but only AA is nuts enough to come up with something like this, and I expect him to do what he said

That's an insult asshole. I saw an old man looking confused and upset, not "displaying doctored data". You are talking complete shit, who do you think you are fooling with this? Your grasp on reality appears to be very thin, stop trolling this thread and look in the mirror. Look deep. Scrutinise yourself for the logic that donations going to you (i.e. your personal "money grab scheme") and your family are totally legit, but to anyone else - it's some false, horrid matrix style illusion of deception. Wake up and stop deluding yourself. And stop trying to delude and get in the way of other people making a free choice to do what they believe is some good in this world.

Yawn...

 Undecided

Look like you got emotional, d00d. This shows how easy you can be manipulated by mere words. You are wasting your time trying to lecture me about things I am well versed.

This is nothing to get worked up over. We need bitcoins to move around anyway.

99  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: Imported private key into my wallet but my Bitcoins did not show up!! on: March 07, 2014, 08:38:38 AM
I imported a private key to a wallet that was confirmed (by me and a third party) to have some Bitcoins in there, so when I went to import the private key for that address, it worked because now in my wallet, Bitcoin QT, under the receive tab, the address that corresponds to the private key that I imported was there, but the bitcoins that are still in the address are not showing up in my wallet..

Any idea what is causing this to not show up?

Post the public address and I will tell you.

~BCX~

1LhtrS7bqh5qUeVb7rDJTwhiVKDDLPZzzg

That is my public address Express.....This was my very first time importing a key.....I mean, all it is going to do is add money into my wallet right? It won't delete the bitcoins I already have in my wallet, will it?

I assume it will just add the Bitcoins that are in the address that I just imported into my wallet that has bitcoins in it already.

Strictly speaking, your bitcoins is not added to your wallet, they are stored on millions of computers all over the world, and have been so since you got them.
All your wallet has to do is to sync with the network  Wink
100  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Dorian Nakamoto does NOT speak English well and he ain't Satoshi, see article: on: March 06, 2014, 10:29:32 PM
Obfuscating one's digital tracks by changing one's writing style is done all the time. He even went overboard by starting sentences with lower case. Seems fishy.

Then again, obfuscating one's identity by using your true name is not  Cheesy
